There is nothing positive to say about this hospital and the only reason I have rated 1 star is because you can't rate 0 stars. I arrived into Maurtius from Australia to visit my grandmother in this hospital and what I saw left me shocked and disgusted. There is no basic hygiene in this poor excuse for a hospital. Staff are rude, lazy and do not even provide basic care for patients. They sit in an office and do nothing while the place is absolutely filthy with even a stray dog wandering into the ward. Needless to say we moved my grandmother to a private clinic where we then found out that she had an infection which they never even mentioned. I wonder what their mortality rate is? This place is completely inhumane and I wouldn't leave an animal there. I have never seen anything as disgusting as this hospital and staff in my life. The only hope for this hospital is to be knocked down, staff fired and start completely anew with a staff that have compassion and are qualified. What I saw yesterday and heard made me question the qualifications of the nurses and doctors. Advice to everyone if you can remove your loved ones from this place otherwise they will probably not make it.

Staff doesn't have a way to talk to the patient. Teach them some manners even if they are talking to children or elderly they should know how to talk.

Like we're in a jungle. Appointment not set according to doctor shifts/ availability. I had to wait half day for the specialist doctor to arrive as appointment was not set according. Arrogant and rude non medical staff at surgery department. Too bad Google didn't have the option of zero star. Very poor service. Will need a miracle to up the service.

the staff have no attitude towards patient, rude and has no compassion, no smile at all. They need to learn how to treat patients, patients who go to hospital they're ill, with this type of staff, they're going to be more ill.

I came from the United States of America to visit some relatives here in Mauritius. Unfortunately, one of my relatives had some issues with internal bleeding and was heavily passing blood rectally... He asked me to help him get to Candos Hospital located in Quatre-Bornes...We got there at 1030 am on the 29th of November, and the nightmare began!!! My relative had heart by-passed a few years back and is on blood thinners medication... but the treatment he received at that hospital from check-in time until he was finally admitted for observation was nothing but an egregious nightmare!!! I would like to describe everything step by step in detail but it'll take too much time and space. Therefore, I'm just gonna skim over the ordeal... First and foremost, the medical staff are extremely rude!!! A Dr. by the name Aworgal (In Emergency Ward) was screaming at my relative and at one member of the family. What happened to being respectful and treating patients with dignity? I guess he needs to go work in a prison hospital setting instead. Other personnel at that hospital are super unprofessional except for a tiny percentage who got some human decency at least. Which made me wonder, do they discriminate against certain group of people or are they that just plain idiots... In the emergency ward, there was a big brown bird (is it part of medical personnel?) just walking around. It's the most disgusting and filthy hospital I've ever seen!!!! We checked in the hospital at 1030am and my relative didn't get a room until 7pm that day. It's such a substandard hospital!!!

Staff don't know how to speak politely to the patient. They should learn the manner to speak with either children or elder people.

My first experience with a government hospital in Mauritius (Victoria Hospital) was absolutely wonderful! From the moment we got to the hospital, we were guided to the right place, assisted by the medical staff and assigned to an amazing nurse. The nurses and doctors were all really friendly, supportive and patient with my toddler. Thank you for showing us such amazing service and assisting us with everything we needed. Would highly recommend this hospital.

A friend of mine got admitted to the hospital because of health issues back in 2020,she got admitted to the gynecology section and she told me toilets and bathrooms are very disgusting there.A doctor who did a scan on her was very rude to her and kept complaining as to why she hadn't peed before the scan. The patients were very friendly, however my friend saw a woman who was in need of medical assistance so she went to get the nurses but they wouldn't take care of the patient and one of the nurses said that 'the patient is always like this and to just let her be'.Not all staff are rude and I understand the pressure nurses and doctors have to go through.Overall a 3/5.

some of the medical staff are very kind and helpful but others...what to say... need more young and dynamic staff. i understand that it's quite a challenge to work in such an environment but continuous training for staff will be beneficial...i myself have been a medical staff abroad for more than a decade, we used to have talks and training every month to boost up our morale and provide good care to patients and their family...

My father had been admitted 2 days ago after having a bad fall (All I know is that he is partially paralysed from the neck down). I had to call the hospital to find out if he was ok and the staff were very rude and hung up the phone while I was still talking. This seems to be the typical way to behave in Mauritius especially with public service officials. It makes me feel ashamed to be Mauritian and I am glad I live in the UK which may have it's problems but is far more civilised than Mauritius. I still don't know the condition of my father and I have not been able to speak to him.

The last time i went there it was in the afternoon and there was only a short waiting time. The environment is as good as it can get for a public hospital. Service was alright.....doctors are very patient considering the number of patients they have to see in a day. In terms of medications, the doctor can only prescribe what is available from the hospital's pharmacy. So i eventually had to see a private doctor for better medications that actually helped a lot in my case.

IN 2015 I contracted Non Hodkins B Cell Lymphoma in my spine which was a shock. I had the affected vertebra removed then I contacted Dr. Hemoo at Victoria Hospital Dept. of Radiotherapy and Oncology. Her attitude and that of her staff has been fantastic and extremely positive my whole way through and because of them we have managed to beat the cancer up to now. I take this opportunity to wish them all an extremely happy Christmas and New Year into 2020 and good health to all.

(Translated by Google) Terrible I did not think there could be a hospital of this type in Mauritius. Staff very disrespectful and incompetants. Remain in their office in the afternoon has no listening to the patient. I suffered waiting 3 hours before having paracetamol. The hospital does not have toilet paper or basic necessities. You must also bring your cutlery ... Everything is dirty dirty. It is a dormitory of 30 beds without front. Having done a diaper I was filled with blood until the middle of the night people cleaned me up. Terrible experience.

I went to hospital with acute sore throat. I was admitted, examined and given the appropriate medications without any problems. Everything for FREE (medicines too). Professionalism and emphatic approach to the patient. As a tourist from Poland, I am very impressed.

Awful experience. Today I went for covid test required for traveling. We told them reason for test, they checked our tickets and finally sample was taken. As soon as reached home got a call from hospital staff saying that they will not run the test because our travel is not for medical reasons. They are okay with wasting everybody's time and wasting the resource ( sample is already collected ) and the doctor was very proud of his judgment. Kudos

My dad was admitted to the CCU at Candos since Friday, I have not been able to reach the ward to understand what is happening. My mother has not been able either to understand his condition I find it hard not to have the right number to call as all of us children live abroad. The system for family that live away is not helpful the website does not exist etc. I am grateful for doctors and nurses they have been very kind to my dad despite the difficult time we all are facing with the pandemic. I just want to speak to someone to know my dad's condition. Thank you for the great work your are doing!

Spoke to one of the Nursing Officer Mrs/Miss Sutaloo who is based on a female ward . She was very helpful and polite and gave me a brief description of my mother-in-law's state and answered all my questions accordingly. I was a bit surprised that she was so calm in manner and so down to earth as I was expecting otherwise. Hats off to you Miss/Mrs Sutaloo !!!

Visited the emergency department following an asthma attack and the staff had no sense of urgency whatsoever. The nurses and doctors were extremely rude and practiced bad hygiene (not using gloves, no sanitisation of injection sites) . They did not seem to actually care about the well being of the patients . The wards are extremely dirty , the bed sheets had fresh stains , dust etc and when I asked the nurse for clean ones she stated they did not have any clean bedding in the hospital. The floors were also very dirty . The nurses did not seem to care about their job as when I would complain about my chest she stated she did not know what to do about my chest pain . Made me wonder if I was really in a hospital or not if the medical staff did not know how to treat my symptoms. They also denied my relative entry to the ward I was in alone struggling to breathe without even a nurse in sight to help me stating they did not allow visitors but were very eager to allow the rest of the patients to have their relatives present which seemed a bit racist in my regard as well .I highly do not recommend visiting this hospital as you will likely leave worse than you arrived. It’s probably worth it to visit a private hospital for proper care.
