Ganga Talao (commonly known as Grand Bassin) is a crater lake situated in a secluded mountain area in the district of Savanne, deep in the heart of Mauritius. It is about 550 m (1,800 ft) above sea level. The first group of pilgrims who went to Ganga Talao were from the village of Triolet and it was led by Pandit Giri Gossayne from Terre Rouge in 1898.

Its a very religious place for hindu people in 🇲🇺. Hundreds of thousands of people converge to Grand bassin for mahashivratre. And some people go by there vehicles, foot, bicycle. And some people built their kanwar and go by foot.

(Translated by Google) It is a must to see when you are in Mauritius. The Hindu faith is beautiful if you draw strength from that, I think. My Dutch neighbors also have this belief. Prima is a choice. I myself believe in myself. no one to tell me if I am doing something right. I really know that myself. Please in yourself. Believe in yourself.Verry important😎

I was unaware of Mauritius history when I went there. Was surprised when the tour made a stop at this Hindu Temple. Then I started reading about the history. The Ganga Talao is so calm and spiritual place. Spend good 2-3 hrs here walking around and admiring the temple. Do visit here if in Mauritius and do read about the history.

Short walk up the stairs and well worth the climb. Nice panoramic views of the Grand Bassin and the surrounding forest. There is a small shrine at the top.
