Reservoir of history of this region..... Splendid job done. 5000 CFA was entry fee for foreigners. More 5000 was the charge for taking photo inside which was optional and I did not avail. A english speaking guide was there to explain everything. It was a good visit eventually.

The national museum of Cameroon,is a must see place when visiting Cameroon. A place rich in history and presents an amazing display of history and cultural diversity of Cameroon. The place is recently under renovation and can still be visited. A little better care and maintenance would be appreciated. The cost is 2000 for adults and 1000 for students in college. 500 for children. 5000 for foreigners (Al cost in FCFA)

Very good English-speaking guide Njiward Valery, who tells not only about contemporary artists, but also the culture, history and a usage of musical instruments. Helps to understand current political situation in Cameroon. Nice to visit place, sometimes randomly closes. Price for foreclosures is 5k XAF + 5k for making pictures.

This is a historic sight. I loved every bit of it, like home away from home. Some of our culture is still being represented here and it takes me way back to my childhood before the rapid advancements in technology (1980's). The staff was very receptive and polite. I enjoyed every bit of my stay there. For those who have not been around Cameroon for a while especially and cannot reach the suburbs, it's a total recommend

Definitely don't miss! Entry is 5000cfa for foreigners. Yes, unfortunately there is a no photography rule but if you've spent any time in the Grasslands region, you probably already have photos of wooden drums etc 😊 you can take photos of the grounds and the building. There is also a guide included for the entry fee. We also weren't allowed to take backpacks inside either, but they have a free storage area just after the payment office. Lots of historical and modern history about Cameroon. Guide was excellent too.

Cameroon's Reunification Monument was constructed in the 1970s to memorialize the post-colonial merging of British and French Cameroon. Located in Yaounde, it was designed by Gedeon Mpondo and Engelbert Mveng. Another reunification monument, albeit far less well-known, is located in Mamfe.

One of the best place to visit in Cameroon, when ever you come to Cameroon just try your best to visit this place. It will tell you much you don't know about Cameroon history; how it began till it present state, the evolution of the museum itself, you will see many different artifacts, instruments used in the olden days bay the natives In all this those incharge will welcome you to the place and you will know alot and understand many things you ignored about Cameroon. For me it was a nice experience to know that Cameroon was the quite different and interesting, I wish to to visit the place again to know and understand so much I ignored about this country Cameroon

Insightful collection of cameroonian history and culture. Our guide was great and I like the fact cameroonians pay a smaller entrance fee. To take pics they charge extra 5000 FCFA but there's a lot to see.

Visited with my partner and had a very knowledgeable tour given by guide Lisette Nange, who took us on a voyage through the history, customs and life in Cameroon, covering its peoples' rituals, musical instruments, clothing, types of habitation and more. Set in a former palace amongst beautiful grounds at the heart of Yaounde, I thoroughly recommend a guided visit. It was also wonderful to see the display of contemporary art at the end of the tour.

Cool place. Entry is 300FCFA on weekends. There's a lot of food (restaurants), an amusement park and a lot of music (noise). I say it's noise because you have many different stands playing different songs all at the same time. Also I think I saw a video game shed with a 50" TV.

This is a fascinating museum, combining historical, architectural, political, artistic and ethnographic interests. The museum is hosted in the old presidential palace, which initially served as the French colonial adminstration. The museum hosts various traditional objects of art, mostly of Bamun origin, as well as (surprisingly) recent paintings from the Poto-Poto school in Brazzaville. On the ethnographic side, there is an exhibition of traditional dwellings and clothing of the different regions of Cameroon, as well as traditional musical instruments (as well as some modern ones, including a saxophone of the famed Manu Dibango!). There is also a photo exhibition showing different Cameroonian political figures and events which took place before and after the Cameroonian independence in 1960. The entrance fee includes a guided tour which was highly informative and interesting.

  • 4/5 Jörg H. 1 year ago on Google
The entrance price for non-residence is 5,000CFA and if you want to take pictures you'll have to pay another 5,000CFA, which is quite expensive. If you don't speak French, but English, ask for Harris, he is such a great tour guide, funny, very conversant with Cameroon's history and a true story teller. I really enjoyed my time and preferred to pay him the 5,000CFA and keep the pictures in my mind.

  • 3/5 Che N. 1 year ago on Google
It's quite cool but a lot has to be done there! Most/All the water systems there have not been functional for a while, grasses have overgrown in one section of the compound, no outdoor toilets accessible to the public,... just to name a few. Nothing being perfect, I can at least testify that the building is guarded, perhaps well, by military. To know more, you must see for yourself so I'll advice anyone to go & visit the National Museum.

It's a good and ideal place to visit especially if you want a brief historical evolution of the country. It is located just a walk from the city centre at the former presidency.
