I see why they emphasize on the Wildlife center as the name rather than zoo. For the first it's okay - a bunch of wild animals in a cages is a wild life center. But for a zoo this thing is no where near. Unfortunately I was after a zoo experience so you guess my disappointment. It's quite good, 90% mammals and just still as scanty as it was 12 years ago when I first visited as a little boy. I hoped lots would have changed in 12 years but well...! However something changed at least, some confiscated gorillas were new on scene. Unless my memory fails me, I think there were fewer mammals and animals in total than before... how sad! Overall I can't say it wasn't exciting all the same... Relax my mind a great deal! Thanks!

It is one of the oldest botanical gardens in Cameroon and perhaps west Africa, with rare Silverback gorillas

the environment is serene. Chimpanzees, monkeys and mandrills are the main animals there. There are also artifacts which you could get. Taking pictures aren't restricted and the entrance fee is 500frs. So I'll give it an overall 8/10

They work really hard to keep the place functioning and clean. The animals looked very healthy. I wish they were able to rescue endangered species at will from the wild to be reintroduced later when they are repopulated. The environment was clean and beautiful. It was possible to miss seeing some of the animals because their cages weren't marked and you could just walk past without realizing there were animals there... the crocodiles especially. In all it was a great experience. There were parrots, though we couldn't see them because they were hiding from the heat we were told. There were western lowland Gorillas; I really wanted to see Chella but he was in his cage all through, but we saw Arno and Abby. There were mona monkeys which I recognized because I knew them before but there was no info on their cage about them, a python, which we later read about in the exhibition room (again no information on the cage), crocodiles (I only saw one, we apparently missed the second cage; it was not tagged). There were several chimpanzees and baboons. I wish I could tell you their exact zoological names but most of the cages had no info though there was a lot of information about the Calabar gorillas. In all it was a great experience!

The Limbe Wildlife Centre (LWC) is a conservation education centre in Limbe, Cameroon. Above all, we provide a solution to law enforcement agencies for where to place wildlife seized from the illegal wildlife trade. For all elements of our work, we collaborate with state and national government, communities, and other international and local NGOs to protect habitats and endangered species. In brief, our in-situ and ex-situ activities include rescue, rehabilitation and reintroduction, conservation education and advocacy, law reinforcement, creating alternative livelihoods to hunting, and research. Through a holistic approach, the LWC aims to ensure the survival of Cameroon’s unique flora and fauna. Ultimately, there are three main pillars to our work: rescue and rehabilitation, education and community.

I still don't understand why foreigners are charged 3thousand CFA , the double price for visiting... What's the point? There's nothing extra to see (it's not a zoo they say) few species of monkeys, 3 crocodiles basically must of the animals are ill (I was told) .well these pics plus one inoffensive snake. *exhale*

The Limbe Wildlife Centre (LWC) is a wildlife rescue, rehabilitation and conservation education project in Cameroon. It was founded 1993 and is managed by the Ministry of Forestry and Wildlife (MINFOF) and the Pandrillus Foundation. Pandrillus aims to protect Cameroonian wildlife in collaboration with the government to enforce wildlife law, inspire a new generation of conservationists and bridge the gap between welfare and conservation

We were impressed by how many animals there are. We enjoyed hearing the chimpanzees chase each other. Our guide Solomon did an excellent présentation. Remember you need a mask but they sell for 100CFA.

At first I wasn’t sure but this was one of the most interesting things that I did in Cameroon. The guided tour gave us so much information that I walked away amazed. Didn’t know that the Mandrill was native to this part of Africa also.

Limbe Wildlife Center is a safety net for endangered wildlife species particularly chimpanzees, Gorillas, monkeys, etc. It consist of a quarantine section where wounded and the sick undergo treatment and observation. The animals are well treated and live in an environment which mimics their natural habitat. At a later time treated animals are returned to the forest which is their natural habitat. The center receives and educate visitors in a guided tour.

So where is the customer service? The lady at the gate was rude...the gentleman was rude. Just overall....would hope to find another place to see that has animals because this place is not in. Before our foot set on the trail to see the animals...we were greeted with rudeness to the point we got our money back and did not explore. Coming from the US I guess I have and expect a certain standard when I am paying for a services or excursion. As far as the request for a tour guide...I guess that was to much to ask for.

Very great and interesting touristic site to visit in Cameroon. The Limbe Wildlife Centre (LWC) is a conservation education centre in Limbe, Cameroon. The centre is managed by the Ministry of Forestry and Wildlife (MINFOF) and the Pandrillus Foundation, a US non-profit NGO also registered in Nigeria and Cameroon. Our aims are to: • Rescue, rehabilitate and release wildlife rescued from the illegal bush meat and pet trades, and ensure high quality animal husbandry standards and veterinary care for all animals. • Help secure the long term survival of threatened and endangered species native to Cameroon through conservation education and alternative employment programmes to hunting for the local community. • Work with law enforcement agencies to combat the illegal bush meat and wildlife trades. Every year we welcome approximately 50,000 visitors to the centre, of which 95% are Cameroonians. Furthermore, every year we engage with more than 1,100 children through our education outreach programmes. the ultimate goal is to enable rehabilitated individuals of threatened species to be reintroduced to restore wild populations when and where appropriate, while supporting national law enforcement efforts. Currently, they provide care to more than 250 animals. These animals include the Western Lowland Gorilla (critically endangered), Central and Nigeria-Cameroon Chimpanzee (endangered), Drill (endangered), Preuss Monkey (endangered), and the African Grey Parrot (endangered).
