Forte de Almádena

Fortress

👍👍 The castle (fort) was built over the ruins of roman temple of Neptune, which had been built over punic ruins. Due to erosion the place is not sccessible from the sea shore, however there is a path from the parking lot. Great views and not so many viditors... People often mention ruins,

The views out to sea are as good as the ruins. They have been sured up sometime recently but are still in bad decay. Detail board is rudimentary. As with all these sites be Careful of your kids as there is very little barrier between you and a drop. The buildings carry on down the slope and I would think the history fascinating, if only it told you. Will have to look online. Welk worth a 15 min stop before going to a beach.

A cool place to see, perched above the ocean, with ruins you can explore on your own. Worth the bumpy dirt road to get there!

Nice cast line. Fort is pretty destroyed but if you are nearby just take a look. Also good place to take a rest.

Worth the visit, view is amazing. But that’s it, nothing else there!

It's a beautiful spot. Nothing to see but the 17th century ruins and gorgeous scenery. Walk along the cliff path, walk in the bushes. Sit and listen to the sea. But beware the road in. Rutted and needs grading.

Cute place to take a walk around and great view of the sunset. We spent the night here on the parking lot (no forbidden signs) and didn’t have any trouble

The road in is really really bad and the fort is pretty deteriorated. Some nice cliff walks and views but I wouldn't go out of your way to visit.

A former lookout fort on a hidden cliff overlooking the Atlantic. Pirates and corsairs were always a threat to the southern coast of Portugal. Beautiful sunrises and sunsets. The coast is breathtaking. We were the only 2 people in this place. Very peaceful! If you are visiting or wild camping here, I gently ask to keep the place clean. Thank you.

Historic ruins site. Slightly off the beaten path and a great every point to the Almádena Forte to Boca do Rio beach trail
