Salty way is a Very cool down to earth Camp to spend your vacation and learn new Sports. Julika, the head of the Camp and surf instructor is a really experienced teacher and tries to help where she can. The time I spent there was super fun and I learned to surf. Also I enjoyed the time with the others in Camp while we cooked and hung out together. Good times!

I worked as a helper at the camp for two months, giving me the opportunity to spend time with like-minded people and enjoy the beautiful nature in and around Sintra. Julika is an amazing surfteacher and has an eye for every individual. Having a big fear for the ocean myself, Julika helped me get more comfortable in the water and to enjoy the waves. I even paddled out, woohoo 🤙🏼☺️I did not go climbing myself but everyday I witnessed guests returning with a big smile after they went climbing with Joao/'Rasta'. He knows all the great boulder and climbing spots in this beautiful area. Masha is a very professional and easy-going yoga teacher. I always looked forward to her special 'Mother Earth' meditation at the end. The house has a living room and big garden where we had lots of dinners and quality time with all the guests together, like living with a family. I absolutely L-O-V-E-D it and will be back for sure!

Amazing surf & climb camp! The atmosphere is really a home away from home as the staff and campers all cook and hang out together creating a great family vibe. Surf instructors are the best I’ve had, super knowledgeable about the spots and picking up on small details.

Amazing surf camp experience! I took the beginners course for 5 days and felt very comfortable and well-guided 😊 The volunteers are very welcoming, open-minded and take care that everyone feels comfortable in the house. If you like, you can join activities in the group like a pizza night. Totally recommended and would join the camp again 😊

I stayed in this surf&climb camp for 3 months. The hostel is cozy and well equipped with different surfboards for any level you are. The nature that surrounds the aerea is stunning, a landscape that offers you the encounter between the forest and the ocean! Really recommend if you love to do an experience detached from the crowd of the city! The owner Julika and all the staff is really friendly and ready to help you at any moment🤙🏻

This was my first surf camp experience and I just loved it! If you’re traveling alone, looking for new friends and surfing (or climbing) at beautiful places, you have to visit Salty Way. The owner and all the people working there are amazing and so helpful. I’m sure I’ll come back soon.

Had a very nice week at Saltyway! Surfing was a first time for me, but i had experience climbing outdoor already. I felt like both the surf and climb instructors were very good in helping both beginners and people with experience. The yoga was a nice addition, although i would've also liked to be able to not include that if that could've saved me money The hostel itself was very nice and clean with pleanty outdoor space to chill. I also liked that you can cook yourself or together with other guests. The hostel was not completely full while i was there, so it was nicely calm and chill. Felix, Anna and Anni, the helpers that were there, were all very kind and respectfull. They helped us getting all the gear ready for climbing and surfing and drove us around. They were also availabe for any questions during the day. They had a nice vibe wich i think also had a good influence on the vibe of the total group. I would certainly like to come back sometime :)

I stayed a couple of weeks at Saltyway and have to say that it was a great experience overall. Surfing, Climbing and Yoga are well organized with competent teachers/guides throughout who are experienced and flexible depending on weather conditions and skill of the participants. I felt I was in good hands. The Hostel itself is located in a calm seaside village with a beach, supermarket, restaurants and a bar located just 5 minutes by foot. All in all it is a cozy place to stay with great activities and feels very welcoming. Would definitely recommend staying here!! Thanks for hosting and cheers to the team :)

I stayed at the Saltyway Camp three times now and I was always having the best time. Julika is a wonderful teacher with a lot of patience and an incredible eye for detail who will help you to improve your surfing skills super fast :) The camp itself is like a cozy little home perfectly situated close to the beach but also in reach of the magical little town of Sintra. Especially the last two times I was at Saltyway I had an amazing time with the two helpers who were super fun and nice and always had an open ear for your everyday problems. Thank you guys so much for the perfect surfing experience, hope to see you again soon! :)

We had an amazing week with SaltyWay. We booked the climbing lessons and the teachers were super nice. They managed to take care on everyone and found routes according to each ones climbing level. The spots were amazing as well. The hostel is beautifully decorated and there are many possibilities to relax after climbing or surfing. We also met really cool people to hang out with. 😎 I’d really like to come back some time!

Had a wonderful time there! Learnt how to surf and even went climbing outdoors on cliffs right in front of the ocean. If you are looking to spend your holiday in an authentic Portuguese guesthouse with a family kind of vibe - I can definitely recommend the SaltyWay hostel! 🫶

I spent two weeks with SaltyWay. This included four times climbing on the picturesque cliffs near Cascais and six times surfing lessons in Praia Grande, as well as additional surfing and bouldering sessions. SaltyWay works with incredibly personable and knowledgeable guides for the climbing and surfing lessons. I expanded my (modest) skills both on the rock and on the board and had terrific fun at all times. But the real treasure is the great atmosphere in the hostel itself. Julika and her team have created a small paradise. Above all, the volunteers made this trip unforgettable with their commitment and the positive mood they spread, which settled over the house like a little blessing. A big thank you to the whole team!

Great option if you are looking to connect with an active hostel/camp. The staff are super helpful with a great balance between professionalism and easy going. Sintra is a magical place to visit, and the beaches in the area are great. Would recommend!

It was a joy to be at SaltyWay. It is a very nice, friendly and relaxing atmosphere in this house. The instructors are very good. This makes it easy to learn. All activities are well planned. At the same time the team is very flexible and supportive. Everything is nice and clean. Nice kitchen. Easy to make your own food. I would like to come back.

I had a work trip to Portugal and stayed after to surf at SaltyWay. Most of the travelers at SaltyWay were 20-somethings and I'm a...well, I'm a 40-something...and still I felt so welcome and included. The hostel itself is perfectly located with an easy walk to great food, groceries and beach, with a short drive to all activities (surf/climb). Staff were conscientious and organized around travel logistics and the hostel itself was perfectly equipped with kitchen supplies and lovely areas to chill while crushed after adventures. Big kudos to Julika who is such an observant and skilled surf teacher (also Sergio, who knows with absolute precision how to guide a beginning surfer into the waves). Also kudos to hostel volunteer Felix, who has a great rapport with guests. Really, I can't recommend this highly enough. If there were six stars, I'd give it. (And I'm actually pretty experienced and discerning about these things.) Good vibes, a tight ship, and excellent people all around.

I had an amazing week at the Surf and Climbing Camp and I would like to share my extremely positive experience. Both climbing and surfing thrilled me, and I was able to learn a lot of new skills. I was particularly impressed by the professionalism and friendliness of the staff. They took great care of us and ensured that we felt safe and comfortable. As someone who had never climbed before, I was initially fearful and uncertain. However, thanks to the empathy and patience of the staff, my fears were alleviated. They helped me build confidence in my abilities and push my limits. Felix was especially helpful, and I am deeply grateful to him for assisting me in overcoming my climbing insecurities. The atmosphere at the camp was also incredibly pleasant. The team created a friendly and open community where everyone felt welcome. The participants were enthusiastic and motivated, creating an inspiring atmosphere. It was great to see everyone supporting and encouraging each other. Furthermore, the organization and planning of the camp were excellent. The activities were well-structured and varied, offering something new every day. All in all, I highly recommend the Surf and Climbing Camp. If you're looking for a place to improve your climbing and surfing skills while being surrounded by a great team, then this is the place to be. It was an unforgettable week full of adventure and new friendships, and I'm already looking forward to returning. Thanks a lot Anna,Anni & Felix

I loved this place! Once a mix up with our room was sorted (we booked a double room but were put in a dorm initially), the owner and hostel helpers were really accommodating and made sure we had everything we needed for a super holiday. The house was clean, spacious, and well equipped. The activities were excellent and tailored to accommodate all abilities. There's a real community vibe here, with the helpers organising a lovely home-made pizza night at the end of the week. The house location is close to a supermarket, local food market, beach, restaurants and bars. Thanks for a great stay SaltyWay!

Highly recommend! A beautiful place to learn to surf - the instructors are very knowledgeable and helpful. I didn't climb, but the photos looked soo beautiful, I wish I had! The house itself is really well kept and good vibes.

Great landscape and village, a beautiful house and garden and good teachers! I also liked the pizza night and the other guests. The management gave their best to give us a good experience and tipps, although we were a bit unlucky with the weather conditions… The only thing I did not like: ca. 16 guests + 4 team people in a house with 2 warm showers and one small kitchen was quite crowded. But, it is planned to extend the kitchen this winter. Less guests would be a good idea, though. If that would not bother you, go for it! Anyway, thanks for the good time!

I thoroughly enjoyed my time at Salty Way surf and climb Hostel during the summer.. The Salty Way team were attentive, hospitable and worked endlessly to ensure that my stay would be an unforgettable memory. In addition, not only did they co-ordinate their classes rigorously, they had a plethora of recommendations within the area that would not have been discovered otherwise without the aid of local knowledge. I would highly recommend this camp for anyone looking for an experience that they'll hold onto for a lifetime! Thank you to Julikah and the team! xoxo

This was an excellent experience and surpassed my expectations. Just to be clear to potential guests, this is a surf camp type of home, not a full service hotel and certainly not luxury. The home is pleasant and suited our needs but it is older and there is plenty of deferred maintenance, although everything worked. The guests are expected to pick up and clean up after themselves and for the most part this worked but there were plenty of times that food or dishes were left for "someone later." The kitchen is going to be renovated, it is quite cramped and old, and the hot water situation is being taken care of as well, so that is good. But the overall experience was great, especially the very friendly and great staff. The surf teachers were excellent and despite the poor conditions, they still managed to get us going and up on the boards. The location is nice, it is quiet at night and all in all it was a great trip. I recommend this to anyone, just be reasonable in understanding where you are staying and you will be fine.
