The museum consists of three parts, one dealing with the establishment and history of the Medieval principality of Serbia and the other two flanking the former dedicated to the two princely dynasties of modern Serbia. As such it is very well organized and informative although it contains mostly pictures and text. Everything is translated to English, the level of detail provided and commitment demanded from the visitor is "medium", not too heavy on the text but with enough "meat" for the more serious history museum buff

The works are really beautiful, I especially liked the crowns and jewelries. 😄 Also, the young man with glasses working at the entrance was very polite and cute and helped us. Thank you so much 😊

Very lovely museum, Serbia has a very rich and wonderful history; this is a very unique and special country and people. This is a wonderful museum that showcases its rich cultural heritage and history. I really enjoyed my time here, the museum is very beautiful and has lots to see. The staff were very friendly and knowledgeable, I would definitely recommend visiting this museum if and when you’re in Belgrade. Lots to see and do in this wonderful city.

The World War 1 exhibition is fascinating and really impressive. If you are new to the role of Serbia during the Great War I recommend you to inform yourself prior to your visit or get yourself a local guide. You'll get to see different aspects of the war for a very affordable price. It's the only exhibition, it's not that small as it can last an hour or two, but it's definitely not enough to learn about this period.

⚠️ Watch out ⚠️ !! This is NOT a National Museum of Serbia, is just a "Portrait Museum" There's nothing written in English so there is not much point to go in if you can't read 😑 we're not told that at the entrance and is very small museum with just few artworks, not worth to go at all 🤷🏻 Quite pricey for what they offer, museums like Science Museum are cheaper and way more interesting!

Permanent exhibition is closed due to renovation. Only temporary exhibition about Serbian royal families is available.

An interesting museum, with pictures of the history of Serbia, accompanied by long texts in Serbian explaining the work in detail, unfortunately if you do not know the language you will have to settle for a simple note indicating the name of the author and the title.

Very pleasant and friendly staff. Small but interesting museum with different exhibitions, not sure if there's a permanent one. The walk through can be made in an hour or two, which I actually like, 'cause you can really give your attention to the pieces and not be overwhelmed. That makes even greater impact than exhausting huge museums where at the end you don't know anymore what you saw... Some contemporary artists made an impression on me this time and their work is something I'll explore more, like Sinisa Vukovic for example. My recommendation.

The historical museum is located in the centre of the city in Nikola Pasic Square. The museum was established in 1963 and today it preserves over 35,000 exhibits in its collection. The only thing we saw on the visit was pictures. The ticket price is 200 din.

It was a nice experience to see Pupin's life and work through a creative exhibition in the museum.

Lots of pictures and descriptions of royalty. Many English written explanations. Focus on the dynasties in charge.

This was another jigsaw piece in trying to understand the culture and influences of the Serbian people. I was impressed with the English version of the descriptions. Well written and detailed. I tried to use the interactive app on my smartphone, but to no avail. It needs to either have clearer instructions or be made more fool-proof. This is not the first time in the Balkans than this technology has been used, but it is still not ideal. For a pretty morbid subject, I enjoyed learning about this period of history and how the original Yugoslavia was formed. There was lots of facts and figures to take on board. It would have been good to have some maps relative to the locations being discussed. Spent just under two hours in the museum which was sufficient to read all the descriptions on the walls.

Super interesting!! Really good for people who don't know about Serbian history. Some of the exhibits seemed unfinished and some of the artifacts were unexplained.

A museum where you can have a better understanding about the World War and the position of Serbia (Yugoslavia) during this period. Lots of documents, pictures and even pieces from that period.

The exhibition of the Obranovic and Karadjordjevic dynasties is very good, with many detailed explanations in both Serbian and English, paintings and objects. It is a pity there is no catalogue. I would have liked to buy one. It is also a pity that there were so few visitors. It is well worth the visit.

Outdated exposition with a a lot of printed text info that I can find easily in Wikipedia at anytime. No interactive things. Basically, the atmosphere seems sad, dark and boring. Do not try to come here with a children.

If the museum would not be called as “The Historical Museum of Serbia” and maybe the Gallery of Serbia or the Art Exhibition of Serbia I would review this score immediately and give it a 3 or maybe 4 depending on the temporary exhibit that is on at the time. HOWEVER, as a historian who assumed I would read about Serbian history here, I was sad to see that the naming has nothing to do with the content. The State Museum too is more or less art-oriented, so I am kind of confused if any museum here is actually a museum of history or not.

200 entry. The most interesting exhibitions were/are closed, so was left to look at the paintings, which are mainly portraits. Descriptions were in Serbian, with item titles given in English. Without Google/Wikipedia my visit would not have been worthwhile as I wouldn't have know what anything was. This could have been quite interesting with translations and the main exhibitions.

Pleasant and informative, enough details and exhibits to keep you interested, but manageable so that you can take everything in without being overwhelmed.

Simply the worst museum I have ever been to....! The 'exhibition' mainly consists of wall after wall of printed text pinched from Wikipedia. There are a few dubious artefacts and some toy jewellery that looks as though it came from a toy shop. There are dodgy printed images of princes and princesses. The toilets were out if order. Can't believe I paid for this.

The Balkan region and Serbia in particular are a very interesting area to explore. but the way the exposition looks, how small it is, is very frustrating. a huge amount of text, very few exhibits. the entire exhibition fits on one floor. the museum was very disappointing

This museum is horrible. It is very dark. And the light is shinning in very bad areas. It costs 200 which is still kinda cheap but like literally nothing is in here. Not sure if half closed because of corona but I didn’t see half of what the pictures show in this museum. All I learned about was Stephen. Can go to the national museum of Belgrade and it’s free on Sunday.

Das Museum ist sehr klein, die meisten Sachen sind leider Kopien. Wir sind relativ rasch durchgelaufen, da es seeeehr viel Text zu lesen gibt und wenig wirklich zum Anschauen.

  • 3/5 Anthony M. 3 years ago on Google
It seemed today the only exhibitions were on the ground floor with one elevated section.

This place is amazing. I am not really fan of historical events, but this one felt great. Didn’t learn much about it ‘cause I knew a lot already, but it was fun to visit a place like this and see all visual aspects of it. Definitely recommend going there and hearing their story.

A small museum that describes the history of the Slavic people and the history of Serbia. If you want to get a quick jump start on Serbia's history, I would recommend visiting

  • 5/5 Dejan V. 10 months ago on Google
Great exhibition related to Serbian history. More.relatwd to the Serbian ruling families, lacking modern history part (after WW2). All shown and done in a great way - somehow cosy, interesting, fun but also informative enough. A place to visit more than once because there are things to see more than once. The staff is great, very friendly and pleasant.

I have not expected an art gallery from ‘Historical Museum’. It has lack of English description. If you are a turist and has seen that museum, dont think that you are going to see the history of Serbia.

Nice collection of portraits of prominent Serbian people. I expected to see a larger exhibition.

  • 5/5 Rahul N. 1 year ago on Google
Lovely seeing the Serbian perspective. Use Google translate as the exibits are often labelled in Serbian. The entry fees are really low at 200 rsd.

It is an intense museum. I impressed by the arts a lot. We love the money section too.

Need more work and exhibitions. Too expensive for what it is. But atm they have a war exhibition that is quiet peculiar

  • 1/5 Andrey F. 2 years ago on Google
Not worth for tourists, but also didn't see many locals there. No audio guide, no text translation in English, just a lot of portraits and other paintings, nothing catching.

  • 5/5 NB B. 2 years ago on Google
If you are very keen to know about the history of war then you must visit to this museum. It took an hour or so to completely explore rye museum. There is so much to gain information.
