Historical site. It is named Mennonite Beach because this is the spot where the Mennonites of Spanish Lookout crossed Belize river in 1958. During the dry season the river was very low, and they were able to walk through the river just holding their dry clothes over their head. Around 10 families spent their first night in 2 small houses. For most of them it was their first taste of the tropical jungle. Lots of hard works was needed to carve out a home for their families in this new country. (At the time still British Honduras). Mennonite Beach is a open for FREE to the public from Monday to Friday. On weekends and Public Holidays there is a small entry fee. NO ALCOHOL is allowed on this property.

Great pace to go swimming with the family. But GOOGLE MAPS DOESN'T WORK to get there. Be aware of that. There is a road that leads to the beach from inside of Spanish lookout but it doesn't show up on the map. You have to use satellite few to find it. You only have to pay on the weekends. Good place to take a day trip or even just swim for an hour or two. Floating down the river to the bridge is highly recommended.

Lovely place! Peaceful and refreshing. Please don’t play any loud music, we come to hear the water and jungle not chattering radios :)

It's a nice sandy beach with lush vegetation surrounding the area. However it's always crowded on Sundays.

Nicer river areas around. Good history, but that’s it.

Great location for morning birding; a cleared river-side surrounded by cattle pastures. The trees on the riverbank provide habitat for many species including Baltimore orioles, red-legged honeycreepers, warblers and other birds.

Good place to go swimming with family and friends! Just be aware that on hot sunny days there will be a lot of people there.

Together with my family, we had a very good time. However, there were people on the beach not respecting the beach rules. There was loud music and others there drinking alcoholic beverages. Overall it was still very peaceful and fun.

Ein prima Ort für Picknick und super Badeort mit historischem Hintergrund. Flache Badestellen mit prima Möglichkeit für Nichtschwimmer. Viele schattige Plätze optimal zum Grillen.
