Such a fun hotel - remodeled from the 60's or 70's with all new modern amenities and style, but vintage feel. Loved the spacious room and unique touches. Dog run and firepit/sitting area were great added features.

My entire family stayed at the Heliotrope for my sisters wedding. Everyone was amazing! They went out of their way to make sure we had everything we needed. We were able to use the common space to have a breakfast for everyone. They helped in accommodating all of our needs as far as the best rooms for families with small children etc. Great place to stay with families. There is a grassy area with a firepit that the staff offered to light for us. Always wood available for the fireplace in the common area. Thank you so much everyone at the Heliotrope for creating such a lovely place for us.

We loved our recent stay at The Heliotrope. The room was clean and ready at check in. The hotel was pretty quiet and even when people were hanging out in the yard area it didn't bother us in our room. Staff was friendly and helpful and the fireplace in the lobby was lovely. Pet friendly and the dog run was very convenient and clean (pics included here). We would definitely book another stay at The Heliotrope.

I used to have nothing but good things to say about this hotel. Thing is, it just isn't worth the money any more. They also made it a "pet friendly" hotel and that means there is barking and the smell of pets. I also like to sleep cold but the AC unit didn't do a darn thing to cool the room down so I sweated all night and slept terribly. The barking dog didn't help. Maybe if they had kept it a pet free space and maybe if they had kept their prices more reasonable?

My pup Doug and I needed a landing spot after a day of hiking and before a day of running in the Trails to Taps Relay. Heliotrope was the perfect place for us both! The bed was incredibly comfy, the bathroom was a shower only (beautifully tiled but important to note for folks requiring a tub), and there was a mini fridge with a freezer shelf which was great for storing my pre-run breakfast. The Hub had fresh coffee in the morning, the staff was super kind and attentive, and Doug and I will definitely be back!

Most comfortable bed ever! Wi-Fi was sharp, shower was designed well. Room was quiet despite occasional car doors closing outside. Heat control was precise. Good neighborhood Really liked the fact that my door code was part of my phone number.

Cute retro motel that's been renovated in a modern way. Oh my goodness, the beds! Incredibly comfortable with buttery soft sheets. The staff was super friendly and the free coffee was great. We liked how you had an assigned parking spot right out front of your room. It's located between Columbia neighborhood and the Fountain District. Walking distance to a few food trucks and brews and a short drive to downtown. We loved Bellingham and we'd definitely stay at this boutique motel again.

Wonderful aesthetic! Was refreshing to be in a well done, low key small hotel vs the large commercial establishments. Tucked away in a neighborhood felt very safe! The bedding, pillows and mattress were super comfy. Overall a great experience!

I had a great stay at this revamped motel - it’s just like the pictures, but maybe even better because what you can’t capture in a photo is the warmth and kindness of the staff. The motel is really thoughtfully designed and with a ton a sweet add ons like a cozy space in the check in lobby with a wood fire and fresh coffee in the morning and a dog run. Would definitely stay here again! Thanks team!

The team at the Heliotrope went above and beyond to accommodate my stay on a tight timeline. They were welcoming, friendly and helpful. The room was clean, comfortable, and stylishly decorated. Great location and access to town. Only reason for 4 stars rather than 5 was train noise and a lack of in-room amenities such as coffee and the incidental toiletries one might expect from a room at its price point. Overall great experience.

The Heliotrope was a great place to stay for our mountain biking vacation in Bellingham. The rooms were perfect for our needs and the grassy games and fire pit area made for a relaxing space, unlike what you get in a typical hotel. The staff were friendly and very helpful and the bike wash station was a welcomed feature! The location is great for moderate walks, or easy rides, to many of the restaurants and brewpubs in Bellingham.

Great place! Simple but clean and modern. Bed was very comfortable and we didnt hear any neighbouring guests throughout the night. We had our bikes with us and were able to cycle downtown in minutes. Delicious locally sourced coffee in lobby was a major perk. We enjoyed the quiet sanctuary of the fire pit, lawn and picnic table. Friendly staff! Thanks for a great stay. We loved exploring Bellingham on bikes! We will be back.

Great friendly neighborhood motel. Old school single story. Retro remodel is quite nice. Spacious lawn and picnic/fire area. Good coffee. NOT a huge corporate mega hotel.

A friend and I needed a quick place to lay our heads when our camping plans changed. We also needed a pet friendly hotel as my dog was with us. Heliotrope was just what we needed. Clean, thoughtfully renovated and pet friendly! Love the little dog run so there’s an off-leash option to let your dog potty. Free tea/coffee in the reception area was a nice touch. Loved the easy checkout process (just leave blinds open). Staff were super warm, friendly & helpful. Location was great, super walkable/bikeable. They have a growler in the room you can borrow and fill at a nearby brewery which was a nice touch. Would love to come back during nicer weather and take advantage of the lawn & fire pit outdoor space. Perfect for what we needed and I would definitely stay again!

We stayed for 2 nights in July. Room was okay but the bed was way too soft and really no place for luggage other than the floor. Seems to be a Pacific NW thing. Staff was very friendly and morning coffee in the lobby was delicious. Not as walkable as we had thought when booking, but driving around Bellingham was easy. Sadly, it rained most of the time we there so we didn't get a chance to enjoy the outdoor area.

Gryffie and I had a lovely stay at Heliotrope Hotel. There is a dog run area. The room is simple and exactly as described. The room is clean and bed was very comfortable. From time to time, we could hear our neighbors next door; it doesn't bother us though.

They must have over booked our room that we had reserved months early. They downgraded us calling it an upgrade. The room had an unclean odor. The soap container was empty. I was unhappy overall.

The first night there, I enjoyed the awesome room and a nice cold beer. With full intentions of crossing the Canadian Border first thing early morning. Order some great grilled chicken and my mother, doggo, and myself fell asleep quickly in our room. April did an awesome job accommodating my U-Haul trailer. Woke up around 6am, took my doggo "Bella" to the dog park... and went to the border. I returned from the border due to paperwork not giving to me from the company that hired me for my work visa. A little defeated and full of anxiety, I went back to Heliotrope to meet the manager, Mary. I asked if there was a room still available for the night, and she said my room is still available. So, I got my mother and my doggo situated. After that, I went and chatted with Mary. I asked her if I could use their printer once my company gave me the proper papers. She said sure. I then asked if after everything calms down if they would be able to get the firepit going so I can just breathe a little. After many hours of back and forth, I finally had all the paperwork for my work visa. Went to the front and met Cody. He and I worked together and was able to print everything that I needed to cross the border. Shortly afterwards, he recommended two of the best beers I have had on my cross-country trip, started the fire, pizza arrived and boom. I was in a relax mind set again. Cody, Juden, April, and Mary went above and beyond to help me. Heliotrope has a wonderful fire pit for roasted smores and drinking beers with neighbors. Dog park that was super useful for my doggo. And the rooms were nice, clean, and comfortable. I will stay here again, and recommend it to everyone travel that way. 10/10

Quiet area just off the Columbia neighbourhood. They had lots of lawn games. This is motel and it definitely felt like one though they have tried to modernize it. There were large stains in the carpet and our bathroom glass was not clean.

We loved the mid-century vibe and the redo. Our only suggestion would be to put a coffee maker in the room and a tissue box. We have allergies.

l love staying at the Heliotrope! My room was upgraded for reasons I am unaware of. It was so comfortable. The staff are very friendly and helpful. I loved the crackling fire in the lobby each morning when I would get my coffee and each evening during Happy Hour. It’s my favorite place to stay in Bellingham

We had such a good time! The bed is super comfortable and the staff were very friendly. There is also a great selection of craft beers in the lobby. We will definitely be coming back next time we go to Bellingham.

We love the Heliotrope! It’s super easy to get anywhere in Bellingham. Close to downtown, WWU, and not far from the airport. Super clean updated rooms with a modern and local vibe.

This is a lovely hotel. The staff was helpful and the rooms were clean and very well stocked. It is close to the center of Bellingham and there are good spots to eat and drink nearby.

The room had a musty odor that never disappeared. To make matters worse, the mattress was terrible - it sagged in the middle and slanted towards the floor. It was impossible to sleep on it and absolutely the worst bed I’ve ever encountered in hundreds of hotel stays. I would recommend any other hotel than this one as you will regret paying to sleep at this dive.

Very clean, friendly, and accommodating staff. Great location with a market across the street. I will definitely stay here again. I also left my Hyydroflask there and they shipped to me. I cant wait to go back to B-ham.

I came to visit my daughter who is at Western. I typically stay closer to her place, but it was booked up so I chose the Heliotrope as an alternative and I am so happy I did! Reasonabily priced, clean, quiet, and cozy. I slept really well and that does not happen often when I am away from home. I will definitely stay here again.

We stayed in Mt. Baker and with two teens it was great they could each have their own bed . They both wanted to buy the sofa style futons for their rooms at home. The newer fridge worked great to keep our road trip goodies cool and the hotel was so well located. We biked everywhere or walked. The coffee from the lobby was delicious in the morning.

Great vibes abound here. The property is fun to chill at. The picnic table in the sun out front is a lovely place to sip morning coffee. Each room has a little dedicated outdoor space with chairs and cool table, perfect for a glass of wine before or after going out to dinner. Heliotrope isn't right downtown, which has its benefits. Still, there's breweries within walking distance. Rooms are clean and comfortable, staff is friendly and knowledgeable. You can't go wrong at heliotrope!

Terrific hotel, modern and retro simultaneously in an excellent location. The rooms are so stylishly done and ultra-clean. We were thrilled that they have a long, enclosed dog run complete with old trees right behind the hotel. The staff is excellent too!

Perfect for a brief stay while visiting WWU. The room had everything we needed: mini fridge, nice shower, comfy bed and the temperature was perfect. The front alcove seating and door-sized chalkboard were nice amenities, and my daughter especially appreciated the earplugs on each night stand to help with the "road" noise (aka my snoring). There is a food truck pod near by, and the complimentary coffee was quite nice. I would totally stay again.

Small, comfy and upscale. Small room that met my needs. Stylish room that was very comfortable. Quiet! Great place to spend a night and finish a project. I can recommend Heliotrope as perfect moderately priced, clean and stylish lodging for any out of town travelers.
