8 hours and counting. Sure glad I didn't come here for emergency reasons.................... Reply: Don't pretend you have a schedule. Nobody in that waiting room received service timely or was informed of when/if they would be seen. Everyone there was waiting for double digits of hours to be seen. We were never seen after TEN HOURS and the arrival of a new work day. Any admission by the staff on how long it potentially would have taken to be seen would have emptied the waiting room. Who in their right mind would have stayed knowing they wouldn't be seen until the next day? People in agony and pain and ZERO information from staff. How hard is it to tell people what's going on, who's next, and realistic estimates of wait times? Shame on you for not advising people that they won't be seen or giving them alternatives.

    1. Do not leave your loved one alone. It will be at least 10min for them to reconnect you with them because they do not have a system of communication 2. There is NO transparency on who or how people are called. After 9+ hrs of waiting, you are only told that you are high on the list and 3rd to be seen. 3. Bypass going to this ER at all costs. Seriously. Call other ERs in the area to inquire about wait times prior to committing time here. 4. There are three triage rooms, one is used for triage, one is used for blood draws and one has a door that has not open once. 5. Nurses in ER were friendly...and were talking more to each other than working on patients, but were friendly when you did get their attention. 6. Security, could NOT be any worse. Provided inaccurate information re a patients whereabouts and another had the F bomb clearly tattooed on his arm on top of being rude and arrogant. 7. Masks are not enforced if you even ask half crazy. I believe this might be a place for the Madden discharged patients who do not know where to go.

Terrible service at the ER and terrible receptionists. A few months ago I came with my husband to the emergency room. There were a lot of people when we walked in. I told the receptionist that my husband has an aortic aneurysm and is feeling very bad. I was very afraid for him. This lady did not listen to what I was saying to her at all and shouted at me. I told her he really needed help right now. She blew me off. She told me to wait... maybe 10 hours with that many people. I was furious. I kept saying he was very sick !!!! Do you know what she did ? Called security to get me out !!!! My husband stayed inside for a few more minutes and left because he couldn't stand the pain. We had to go to another hospital !!! We were welcomed right away ! They immediately did an MRI of the heart and all the results to make sure everything was okay. These are not jokes! An aneurysm can burst at any time! And they make you wait and throw you out of the hospital !!!!!!!! Shame ! The hospital should be responsible for such things because it knowingly exposes people to death ! I understand that there are a lot of people and everyone is waiting, but if a patient comes with a lot of pain, he should not wait ! Never ! 😡🤬🤬🤬

After days of feeling really really bad and a recent blizzard and wind chills well below -20° my Dr recommended an ER visit which I was dreading since I was not well at all & I was sure this would not help my awful mood. On arrival I was greeted by ER registration who was very prompt and thorough and I wish I could remember her name because she also respected that I was not able to speak well due to horrible cough & even more horrible sore throat. Next nurse Melissa couldn't have been more caring and also conscientious that I was not well. Next nurse George who was very thorough and careful to ask all the questions needed to help me get better. Then Dr. Liska(I hope I got his name right) who was also very thorough and caring as he explained all tests that were being ordered. The xray team couldn't have been any kinder & made that test easy. My experience, despite how awful I was feeling, was a great one. Look no one likes a trip to the ER but if you must go this definitely is where you want to go!

Terrible way of rating the severity of the ER patients, my wife is a lupus patient that is immune compromised. Went there on Thursday the 25 for a migraine that started two days before, they did a lot of unnecessary test, like a pregnancy test even after my wife said she had a historectomy 10 years ago and it's in her chart. After waiting many hours we finally got in an the attending doctor gave her a migraine cocktail minus the torodal...waited for a few hours and then gave her that shot....sent us home with no meds for the migraine if it came back....sure enough it did, 2hrs after getting home. Went back the following Tuesday to the ER with an even worse migraine.....waited for 10hrs and didn't get to see a doctor.......triage nurse, charge nurse all had terrible attitudes and didn't want to hear nothing from no one. We had to finally leave so as to not miss my wifes appointment with neurology at 8am. Go anywhere else but here unless you don't actually have an emergency.

This place is a pathetic joke. I really used to like this hospital, both my kids were born here and I'd swear by it.... Not any more. I went into er with only 2 people in the waiting area and waited over an hour before seeing triage nurse. Immediately after I'm approached by 3 security guards saying they would like to wand me down because I had a pouch on my belt for my Leatherman multi-tool. Which wasn't in the pouch. I left went to Elmhurst and was in and out in under an hour with no hassle. At loyola there was garbage on the floors, urine specimen bottles laying all over and the bathrooms were atrocious. Very disappointed and I will not be going back.

FOR THE EMERGENCY DEPARTMENT: this is the first time this place has disappointed me. I came with my daughter (6) on my way here she had a fever of 103.2. It took them 5 hours to get me inside the emergency room and even then I didn’t get a room. I was stuck in the hallway with my poor daughter. Luckily by then her fever was down and I had other concerns that need to be addressed which is the reason I stayed. It is currently 6:45 and I’m waiting on discharge paper. Honestly it took more time to get me threw than it took for the doctors to take a look at my daughter. Staff seems more concerned about their personal lives than helping and speeding up the process. I don’t think I’ll be coming back. I use to come here all the time for their professional care.

the worst emergency room in illinois. I went because of a headache and to receive a pill to calm the pain and for him to take care of me I had to wait 10 hours!!! The attention of the nurses is super horrible and that of the doctors is even worse. unfortunately they practice a profession just to earn money but they are not interested in the patient at all. It is very sad but I do not advise anyone to go to that hospital for an emergency unless you want to die.

Was told when we arrived that the wait time was 10 hours at minimum. After sitting for a while we found out that some people had already been waiting 12 hours. My husband was doubled over in extreme pain. I reasoned that we could drive to another state and be seen at a less crowded facility in less time so we left after finding a better option. Fortunately, we only had to drive 15 minutes to be seen at another hospital.

Honestly this department deserves 0stars. Unless you are coming in an ambulance expect to wait hours for care. My sons fever read 102.4 and climbing. Triage took his temp and it said 98.4, after I just told them his temp was climbing there was no way it was 98.4. He was burning up. They checked him with the forehead thermometer and it read 102 and they asked if they could do a rectal reading. I agreed. It read a little less than 102. They said I would be waiting but that they could get me Tylenol or ibuprofen while we waited. I agreed. I waited for over an hour while my son started to feel warmer with out help. I knocked on the triage door and the woman who was Asian with glasses opened the door. I explained my concern about my child and asked for help. She didn’t even let me finish speaking before she answered ok with an attitude and brushed me off. I said are you gonna get me help? And she said ok again. I asked her whether she was going to get me help or if I needed to leave and go to a different hospital and she said you can do whatever you want with an attitude. These are the people you have working for your “private hospital”. So cold and rude. I left and my son has an 103.1 fever to which I had to stop and get him Motrin and left to take him to a different hospital.

COMPLETELY NEGLIGENT Loyola Maywood ER and hospital deserve a ZERO. Note: IDFPH and IDFPR take complaints. Hopefully, people continue to get the word out about how horrible this place is and will find something better and deserving for their loved-ones. Their “Grievance Process” is a sham from what we experienced. They took our information. Approximately a year and a half later, we received an email saying they reviewed the case and gave appropriate care. We could not respond to the email. That’s not surprising given the process was really not available to our family. Our loved-ones deserve much better than Loyola Maywood ER and hospital. They are not good enough.

***UPDATE***. NOT ONE LOYOLA REPRESENTATIVE HAS RESPONDED TO MY CLAIM. When I was in the ER the nurse tending to me failed at her IV insertion. She immediately blamed me for it, stating that I flinched. I told her I did not move even though she hit muscle. She then escorted me to the bathroom so I could give a urine sample. There was urine splashed all over the toilet seat. I said I wasn't sitting there and she stated that's all we've got. I still refused and it took her thirty seconds to get me a basin to urinate in. THIS IS ABUSE. I was an RN there for nearly a decade. I am so glad I left. I spoke with Bethany from patient relations and she became dismissive. Bethany is part of the problem as well.

Worst hospital ever!! BAD CARED AND incompetence of the doctors and staff of trauma. My wife was hit by a car hit the pavement with the head, and was broad to the ER by the ambulance. They kept her there for 2 days and never diagnosed concussion. They tuned down all the symptoms even if she was vomiting and dizzy all the time. They told her to come back two weeks later only to see her for 5 minutes without any test, despite her telling them that she is still dizzy, has constant headaches, and feels vertigo. They do not care about patients, but of course, the bills are sent promptly. Never go to Loyola again.

My daughter and I was waiting for more than 8 hours...they keep calling people that aren't even in the waiting area anymore more than 2x but not calling people that have been her for hours! They told my daughter it would be a short wait to do a procedure for her! They don't come out to tell people what's going on!!! There was a person that had been there since 4am the previous day that was elderly! Another elder women had been sitting there and was running out of oxygen!!! This is a horrible hospital

Really poorly run ship. After ten hours in the ER I was discharged only to get a phone call to come back they weren't done with tests. When I returned at 10 pm I was sent to the back of the line in the waiting room, where I stayed until midnight without an answer as to what additional tests were needed. I ended up walking out, unable to get any answers or speak to another doctor about why I had been called back. The only reason they get one star is because I am still alive.

I use to give this place a 5 starts, but this visit im here has ruined it. I have xrays showing a partially collapsed lung and my heart is enlarged. And my blood work was indicating an infection. I cant talk verbally due to surgery and am in increasing and constant pain; yet I was told everything was normal and if this second blood test (specifically for a heart attack which was already shown normal) then they will discharge me. I have not been taken back to a room, I've only seen triage nurses, never once have seen a doctor. I can barely breathe yet I'm being told to leave cause I'm not having a heart attack. What about everything else going on?!? I knew I should of gone to Palos emergency room instead of this shambles of a place.

Been here often love my pcp she is from Loyola so to make it easy I come to this er so she sees the results right away . But every time I come I wait easily over 10 hrs , when my test results are already in my chart . I have been in my share of hospitals , rush ,saint marys , Masonic etc . And none of the wait times are as bad as this one (alllll the time) . It’s really unfortunate because they have good pcps horrible ER. Dirty bathrooms, no follow up from staff rude triage people and when you finally get back to your room it’s very little help from physicians . I just come to make sure I’m not dying but if I was bleeding out this is not the place to go too.

I wish I could give it zero stars, I came here at 2 in the afternoon due to having a terrible allergy reaction to some a liquid at my job. It’s now 11:36 P.M. I kept on telling them how long will it be and all I got is “I don’t know”. Other people kept going before me and me sitting down waiting for hours is so disrespectful . I wouldn’t recommend coming here at all.

Worst emergency room I ever seen! They don’t take chest pain patients with past severe heart history seriously waited over 5 hours with my mom having extreme chest pain and shortness of breath and watched no one be called in the back from 2am till 8am triage nurses seem to not take chest pain serious enough they will leave you in the waiting room to gasp for air or have a heart attack before they help you! Especially the male bald triage nurse he seems to think people with chest pain should be last on the list

Went to emergency about 9 AM about a year ago in the spring. I was having chest pain since the night before. By time I left in the after noon about 1:30 - 2 PM without seeing anyone. The room was pretty full and more people coming in. There was a blood trail from the floor in the waiting room to the bathroom from a man who was coughing up blood. A woman who was expecting and water broke yet we were all sitting outside waiting to be seen. She had been there an hour or so and the man a couple of hours. I figured I was not going to be seen. DIsappointing.

Horrible hospital. Take your family & loved ones anywhere else! My dad was not feeling well; we arrived about 2:30pm. He wasn’t taken back & checked into the ER until about 11pm. A total waste of time to be told at 3am that he needed an MRI & wouldn’t receive it until the afternoon of. It’s currently 1:40pm & we’re still waiting. It is also filthy in this place. Please do not post your sorry response. Let me save you the time & trouble & I’ll copy & paste it for you as you’ve done with previous reviews. “Thank you for taking the time to leave a comment. Our staff is committed to providing the safest and highest quality care to every patient. We are sorry to hear about this experience. Our goal is to provide every person with the best experience and care possible. We are always looking for ways to improve and your feedback is important. Oh my gosh and I thought my hometown ER was awful.. They're so slow. I've been here since 9:30pm and it's 5am. I'm bleeding constantly. They even gave me a towel to sit on because of it yet I'm not seen but an older man that caused commotion because he's tired is seen before me? I get that they're constantly getting trauma but that's not what I'm upset about. It's that they're overbooked with patients that they're overflowing through the ER. I have a woman sitting in front of me with a bed pan full of vomit. She's been here for 8 hours too. It's awful. I feel so awful about hating my ER for waiting 4 hours. At least I was seen and cared for throughout my wait time there. I don't think these nurses and triage people care about sick people. They have shrugged at every single person complaining and closes the door. I'll take my issue elsewhere.. hopefully I'm treated better there.

0 stars if I could post , I am currently writing this while I’m sitting down waiting for over 10 hours to be seen . These people are so ignorant towards everyone here , no help at all and you can’t even ask what order your going to be called in. They have triage doors that you have to knock on just to talk to someone . Horrible. These people will honestly let you die. As I’ve been sitting here there has been people screaming in pain and even come in gushing blood. They told a young lady to hold the gause to her injury while she wait to be called. Unacceptable. No communication between doctors or patients . Please don’t bring your family here. Worst mistake of my life. 0 stars

Complete lack of respect. People waiting for over 10 hours in the ER with absolutely no communication. Chest pain go wait, baby with 103 temp go wait, elderly lady internally and externally bleeding go wait. They only thing timely about this place was taking insurance information so you can over bill for substandard care. Being told that it's just the way it is and to deal with it or go somewhere else is totally unacceptable. Read the patient bill of rights you have posted because clearly you have forgotten the message and do not follow your promise to patients. This is not an ER it is a complete joke. When people demand an update after waiting for 6 hours , which should never even get to that point, they are confronted with armed security and Cook county police as what, a tough guy show of force. Pathetic. A patient asking for a status update after hours of quiet waiting is not a threat. That is ridiculous. A hospital ER is designed to help people not bully them. You proved that you follow the typical corporate mentality of profits over people. SHAME ON YOU Loyola.

Horrible experience. Wait time is unfair, they have patients waiting almost 24 hrs to be seen while seeing others who just get there be admitted and released even before they’re able to see a doctor. One of the largest hospitals in the area yet no room in the actual hospital causing overflow into the ER. This these to be brought into the attention of the organization however, we all know nothing is going to change. Please save your time unless you’re a high priority patient, expect to wait 12hrs+ minimum.

I called the ED dept and was told pts can have 2 visitors while there. I had my sister join us when I got this answer. Mom was doing poorly. We took the 1 hour ride to be seen at the hospital where Mom had her surgery 2 weeks ago. We have been waiting for 5 hours to be put in a room to see a doctor. Then the security guard tells the waiting room that there can only be 1 person with the pt.nit is 95 degrees outside so my sister and I have to trade places while waiting. I understand that patients are taken back based on the acuity of their complaints however, some communication about what is happening would be appreciated. Not to mention no water and 2 dirty restrooms in the small waiting room doesn't help. Next time I will get the name of the.pwrson I talk with in the phone. We will not return here for emergency care EVER. Staff has been very nice except for security man.

Ortho doctor came right away said I need to be admitted for observation. This was approximately 8:30pm ..sat in the halfway until at 1:30am then finally pushed into an ER cube behind a curtain ... fast forward 2:00 pm the next day still no room ask to go home ..Couldnt shower and had to ask for pain meds even though they should've been given every 4-6 hours The end never again

It's the first hospital in the US I felt discriminated. My daughter arrived in ambulance for passing out after eating and throwing up. They didn't stop repeating she just got schock with broccoli... (F that). They didn't even care a little in what actually happened. They just left us waiting 3 hours on a bed in the middle of the hall to see if something else happened to my kid. But, I bet if that would be a white Karen's kid they would have made a lot of test and analysis. And I have insurance, so that's not excuse. By the way, when they asked for my insurance information (that, in fact, was almost immediately after my arrival) they didn't stop asking what our nationality was and where she was born. Jesus this is the first hospital where I have been asked about that. The shouldn't give a F about that, they should just care if my insurance is valid or not. And at last but not least, on the paper they gave me to leave, they just wrote down my daughter fell... Nothing about the vomit, the passed out. This place is amazingly racist. Hope we don't need to come back.

Me and my girlfriend were there for 14 hours!! Had a bed in the hallway, the Nurse Justin, disregarded us completely. We were told by the doctor we were going to get scans, and waited about 3 hours and received no scans. Until we asked Justin what was going on, first thing he said was “you guys are waiting on the results right?”, which clearly demonstrated a lack of communication within the team, as he had no clue what was going on with us. Once the scans were completed, we waited about an hour and a half, and heard nothing yet from the results. We asked a different nurse and the doctor finally came to see us, we were just waiting to be discharged. It was taking again another hour to be discharged so we asked Justin the nurse again, and he asked if we were still waiting on the results from the doctor. CLEAR lack of communication, we had to inform him of everything that was going on. We could’ve been the wrong patient with worse conditions and this lack of communication could kill somebody one day. The nurses during triage didn’t even bother if we had taken any medications beforehand, they just right away gave out medications. Don’t come here if you’re sick, patient care is not there top priority. They blamed it on lots of traumas, but I observed him showing off and joking around various times, mostly about a 95 year old patient who had punched him in the face.

I wish I read the patient reviews before heading to this E.R. this morning 11/25/23. My dog contracted a serious infection which exposed me to it (I'm immune compromiseddue to cancer) & had other issues going on with severe bruising to my back. I was initially treated by an Elmhurst Urgent Care that said they are limited in what they could do & to go to the E.R. if symptoms persist. I chose Loyola Maywood, because I thought it was still a premier hospital from what I remember in the '80's. I explained to the Triage Nurse what happened & she immediately said to me & my brother "I don't want you in my triage room, I have already gone through this with a nursing home & I don't want to get it." I was shocked by her abrasive comment & lack of compassion. She directed us to a room & told the E.R. nurse, Sabrina to suit up, because you do not want to get this. I was put in a room by myself (they told my brother to leave) & treated horribly by Sabrina. She was so crass & mean towards me even though I told her I was treated by a prescription & thought I wasn't contagious anymore. The E.R. doctor treated me with Claritin & Benadryl, which I explained to him I've been doing at home & that I also was on an antibiotic and prescription cream, but still have symptoms. My unexplained bruising on my back was minimally addressed & is still unresolved. I did not go to this E.R. to be given an over the counter allergy medication & have my insurance billed thousands for this unsolved visit! I cannot believe they took an oath to take care of people. There was no kindness shown outside of the CT tech Christina who should be promoted to facilitating a class on bedside manner to the E.R. nurses.

No hospital is perfect but I recently visited this hospital and the doctors were helpful. They were really concerned but let me know what was happening and what could happen. I was confused as to what was happening since I didn’t know I was having an emergency. I did feel I had really great doctors thank you to the team that helped me! I would recommend my family and friends to this hospital.

I had a Heart transplant here at Loyola back in 1997. Then a Kidney transplant recently in May of 2021. And of course other issues along the way that I was hospitalized for. And very recently in December 2021 I caught Covid and checked into Loyola once again. I wasn't a typical Covid case. I was a very complicated and challenging case and the reason is because not only did I have Covid but I also had the BK Virus, the CMV Virus, and a comprimised immune system from the meds I had to take so my Kidney transplant doesn't reject. I have to say the Doctors had a huge challenge ahead of them. Well needless to say I was hospitalized for a week and they came thru once again. I am home now, Covid free, and very greatful to them for curing me. I can't say enough about the great team at Loyola. Yes, I would highly recomend this great institution. They have consistently done me right for over 40 years.

We actually had a very pleasant experience. We came in to have a massive sliver removed from under my daughter's thumbnail. Everyone was very nice and efficient. We ended up in the pediatric ER being seen by someone from hand surgery. It took a while and the Xray was completely unnecessary, but everyone did a great job. I much prefer Loyola to Rush OP's ER and will be coming here for non-ambulance emergencies from now on.

Was airlifted from another major hospital to Loyola due to heart failure, They saved my life. Been with them since 2010 for followups since then and never had a bad interaction with anyone or anything. Staff are always polite and helpful. I wish there was a location closer to me as I live 45 miles away, but know I will be in good hands there and really don't mind the trip. You guys have been great. From the receptionists, Device Clinic, to my doctors, Heroux an Vasawalla. My many thanks to all that make this hospital great!

90% of the patients leave after waiting 5 hours or more! These people are constantly calling patients that are gone! No matter what their condition the doctors come out 5 hours later it's been happening for 2.5 hours we've been here! And the place is absolutely FILTHY! You're better off going to the county hospital!

I have been in the emergency at Loyola , to be honest and saying the truth , the emergency team are amazing, didn't take too long to get inside and seen by doctor, when got inside l was amazed by number of people that came that day , in which they put be in bed in hallway since all rooms are full. The work that that do is beyond possible, l could say inside emergency room looked like beehive they are all non stop working . I waited all of 20 ish mins before getting out of this place and going to a different hospital. I was in severe pain (10+) and when I was called back for vitals I asked politely about how long and I got a smart answer. Since I was in such pain I told them I am leaving and asked if there was anything I had to sign. Their response was “no one is holding you hostage.” The only kind person in my short stay was the parking lot attendant who helped me out as I was in tears from pain. I will go to Lagrange every single time, and I will also be switching my PCP (did for my daughter as well). The vending machine & water fountain were down so no access to water. Another patient asked for water and was denied by a nurse. This used to be a great hospital but now it’s awful and the staff is RUDE

I had previously undergone a successful surgery at Loyola. However, today, I came in to have my wound examined due to it reopening and bleeding heavily which concerned me. I arrived around 12:30am and was admitted at approximately 1pm after a 12-hour wait. Given the location of my surgery on my lower back, sitting comfortably has been a challenge. It would have been greatly appreciated if a solution could have been provided for this. I acknowledge that emergencies take precedence, but the lack of communication from the staff has been a significant concern for me. When I inquired about an estimated time of arrival from the nursing staff, the receptionist simply responded with “maybe” and wasn’t friendly at all, while I understand that dealing with people especially in ER might be rough, a smile and some kindness is never too much. On a positive note, the security personnel were kind and kept me company during this rather tedious wait. After receiving care, the staff proved to be nice and helpful. My situation never reached a critical point, allowing for a swift examination and enabling me to take appropriate measures for the post-surgery wound care. In summary, my experience at the Loyola ER today has been disappointing, primarily due to the extended wait time, which I would rate 0/10. However, I would give a 10/10 rating for the nurses and the kindness of the doctors. The security staff also performed exceptionally well.

Never coming here my son was admitted here and the staff was so rude towards him they didn’t know how to handle the situation ended transferring to a mental institution and they also lost his belongings. Do not take your kids here ! Felt so discriminated everyone was starting at us like we were crazy .

😠 Observation dept and respiratory therapy should know not every symptom is anxiety. Not everybody has it just because you may. You did nothing to solve the problem but were sure to make your patient feel bad for expressing the symptoms being experienced. Now home and nothing resolved and suffering....
