The Field Museum is a must-see attraction. We spent about five hours here and we sped through a decent amount of the exhibits. There’s nothing that I can say here that will prepare you for the pure size of this place. So many exhibits just keep going and going. We had the City Pass which got us into all of the exhibits. We had a quick bite to eat at the cafe. There are a lot of vending machines and drinks available throughout. Wear comfy shoes because you will walk a lot!

Field Museum located at 1400 S Lake Shore Dr, Chicago, IL 60605 is an awesome Natural History Museum with tons and tons of exhibitions. Fossils galore too! Egyptian, African, Asian, Dinosaurs l, Minerals too - all great. Only complaint is the signage as it is terrible! Very easy to get lost and end up finally finding an exit only to find out that it’s closed and or emergency only. That got exhausting quickly…….. not good!!! Staff was great, helpful and friendly too. But please, please improve the songs so that people know how to exit that maze!!!

It was an amazing trip! We paid out of state fees and we paid for all the special exhibitions. It was worth it. It took us all day to be able to get through the whole place and all the exhibitions. Chairs or benches available in every room. Stairs and elevators are available as well. Restrooms are super clean and you can find them near every area or exhibition. You can bring your own food and they have a few big cafeteria areas inside and outside to enjoy your break. Parking is not very close; we walked a few blocks to be able to get to the first available parking lot and paid $25 all day (not so bad for a Chicago parking space!). It is a great place to visit with kids or without kids.

Interesting exhibits at this museum and you can spend a few hours looking at multiple exhibits. There are a few that you have to pay extra to view so keep that in mind. They offer discounts to residents of Chicago and residents of Illinois.

12-29-23 Louisiana Folks visiting... We wanted to go to the aquarium, but there wouldn't have been anything available for entry until 4. We decided to go to the Field Museum, and it is a very great place to explore. You'd enjoy it, too. If you plan to do the Field Museum, and try to do as much of it as you can, plan to be here for most of your day. We got to the museum around 1:30P.M. and we had to leave at 4. 10/10 rating

I hadn't been since I was a child, but we decided to take the kids. It was wonderful. Great exhibits. We actually didn't finish it before the kids got tired and restless. We definitely plan to go back and look again! Literally amazing for adults too!!!! Not just children. The dinosaurs were our personal favorites.

This place is MASSIVE. It took 4 hours to get through and I don't even think we saw some of it. Such a cool place. Lots of awesome stuff to see. Lots of well preserved history. And the dinosaur fossils were incredible. I especially loved the little Dino molds you could collect around the museum. It's like a mini scavenger hunt. The Native American and Ancient Egypt area was my favorite, lots of really nice and respectful exhibits. There are mummified cats and other small animals that were really interesting. The masks were super cool too. I loved the praying mantis mask, that one is super cool. Definitely recommend!

An incredibly handsome museum filled with fascinating exhibits. Really loved meeting Sue the T-Rex and the beautiful Plants of the Wotld galleries. The “Bloodsuckers: Legends to Leeches” exhibition was also fascinating- even if it did make me feel squeamish on several occasions! The 3D Dinosaurs of Antarctica movie was fun too. Could have spent hours here - it was brilliant.

My Wife and I visited and enjoyed the Field Museum on January 23, 2022. It has a lot of great exhibits, and plenty of interactive displays and things to touch. It is geared for all ages, and there is content that appeals to every type of person and learner. My wife enjoyed the DNA exhibit, and I enjoyed the Egyptian stuff, but we both really enjoyed the Wild Color exhibit, which talks about nature making all sorts of crazy colors, in animals, feathers, rocks and all sorts of things. It was put together really well. They also have a bunch of dinosaur fossils, a large T REX, and an exhibit that follows the different native peoples of different parts of the Americas (Incas, Mayans, Aztecs….). This place is great, and you will want to spend at least 2 hours here, even if you just browse and walk through. We will surely bring our children here next time!

Visited with the city pass/go city and my group of 16 Girl Scouts. Definitely go when the doors open at 9:00 to visit exhibits and beat the crowds. You can easily spend 2 days here soaking up all the information and displays... we spent 4 hours and saw the top must sees per our girls. Wild Color exhibit was a hit and I highly recommend adding it to your visit when you get your tickets. There were teen volunteers who did a great job with stations around the museum quizzing people and giving information/activities a bit more in depth. Bathrooms were all very clean and the museum was spotless in regards to cleanliness. They do have 2 nursing/pumping rooms for Moms that had a sink, outlet, and comfy chair.

I was here for Lunar New Year. It was fantastic! It's rare to go to a museum and see so much, and for there still to be more worth seeing. The overall experience was phenomenal, and as a dinosaur lover I was overjoyed to see Sue, the Tyrannosaurus. The exhibits were well curated and thoughtfully arranged. They had a performance for the holiday I only caught the end of because we stopped in as a last minute idea while we were in town. The entire museum was clean and tidy. The 3D movie we watched was surprisingly really high quality, significantly better than I expected from a museum's Theater! My niece and nephew loved being 'shrunk down' to check out soil from a way smaller perspective, and I found it super interesting. There was just enough hands on stuff to keep the kiddos entertained, while I got to get lost in reading and learning about everything. The Native section was sobering, especially looking through all the cultures represented and re-learning about all the terrible atrocities they were put through. It's well represented and in a way that's easily digestible, without shying away from the truth of the matter. I would highly recommend going as a family, or even by yourself if you enjoy learning or sharing knowledge with others.

I had recently been to the Smithsonian museum in D.C., and this by far exceeded that experience. This is THE destination for everyone who loves the natural history of our world. The layout and presentation of materials was incredible. Half of the museum is a throwback to 100 years ago when zoos did not exist, as just about every single living animal on the planet is represented in taxidermy. The other half is an ultra-modern representation of the story of our planet, laid out from beginning to end, and with enough detail to get lost in any era of your choosing. The highlight of the experience is the dinosaur fossils. All of the modern favorites are on display, and each is thoughtfully posed and represented with accuracy and in detail. Don't miss this activity in downtown Chicago!

The Field Museum is one my absolute favorite places and an amazing natural history museum! They have fantastic dinosaur exhibits - Sue was updated since the last time I visited and her new room is awesome. Very cool exhibit on ancient Egypt. They have so many exhibits you could send days here (ancient Americas, mammals, birds, rocks and minerals, Africa). Also, the museum building itself is beautiful and a piece of history. Rotating exhibits are also top notch obviously. They also have a kid zone in the basement. My 2 and 4 year old loved the exhibits throughout the museum. Dino’s we’re a hit obviously for them.

The enormous Field Museum is a captivating blend of history and science. Its vast halls house diverse exhibits, from ancient civilizations to natural wonders. Walking through, you embark on an immersive adventure, exploring towering dinosaur skeletons, ancient artifacts, and interactive displays. The museum's commitment to education is evident, fostering a deeper understanding of our world. With its neoclassical architecture, the Field Museum stands not just as a collection but as a dynamic hub of learning, inspiring curiosity and leaving a lasting impression on visitors.

This was the highlight of our trip. If you have the opportunity, GO! Our family ranges from middle school to young adults and everyone loved something. Even tried the VR, it was okay but a good to do.

I could walk around it for hours. My first visit to Chicago occurred in a freezing November and I literally run from the park and hid in this museum to stay warm. I stayed for 5 years not because it was warm, but because it turned out to be one of the best museums I've been to. Amazing exhibitions, very professional staff.

Field museum is a symbol of Chicago’s museum campus. I would call it natural history museum of Chicago. It has several main sections, the Evolution, Animal specimens and habits, the Ancient Egypt, Special Exhibit, China Hall. I like the Evolution a lot, it explains how life appeared billions years ago, and how it evolved till today, it includes some educational videos and also those fossils. The Egypt part is very cool as well. They explains how the ancient Egyptian makes mummies and what was their belief of the gods. They do have a few real mummies down there.

Lovely Museum for all ages and all kind of people around the world. It’s not a typical American history museum rather it’s an amazing place to broaden your knowledge from history of earth to different habitats across the globe. You could spend a day or two to explore all the sections of the museum.

Awesome experience! It requires at least 3 hours of your time (not including the shows/movies). We were there on the last day (01.02.2022) before they start requiring vaccine cards for entry.

What a treasure!!! Second time for me to visit as an adult, first time for my 8.5 yo. We spent ~ 2 hrs. Paid extra for ocean jurassic but an Illinois resident basic at $25 would be as good. Don't go on weekends or later in the day, it was a bit chaotic because they were setting up tables for an apparently huge event. All in all an amazing place to visit w kids! We will come back for sure. If you are visiting from outside state consider getting the city pass. Again the basic ticket is already getting you to a lot of exhibits. No need to purchase extras.

Such a spectacular place to go to!! I visited many museums since I was child but this field museum something beyond. There were many exhibits throughout. We spent around 3hrs and tried to make sure we went through all exhibits. We came to visit chicago from Canada and got a city pass which allowed us to all the exhibits. Even though I don’t have city pass the entry ticket is affordable and worthy. The Egypt mummy exhibit is one of it and wonderful as I am interested since childhood. You have cafe to sit and eat if you are hungry by the whole walking. Made sure you wear comfy clothes and shoes and all set to walk through out and enjoy such a treasure. Highly recommended place for kids to be as they get to know lots of things, educate as well as interesting.

The field museum is the best. It's so huge that you need ample time to see every exhibit. Every exhibition was so detailed and the quality of work and effort for each of them is unmatchable. Every exhibit also has a gift shop and the main gift shop is also very nice. I thoroughly enjoyed my time here. It's a must visit in your Chicago visit.

I’ve been to Chicago 4 times and hadn’t been to the Field Museum (having wanted to) and WOW, this is an absolute must and the most fun I’ve ever had in a museum. SUE the T.Rex is the well-deserved star of the show but there is so much to see and it’s all truly amazing. Didn’t get to see anywhere near everything we wanted. Go early so you have a full day to see what you want at a good pace, we got in at 12:30 and we didn’t get to 2 full exhibits we wanted to because there is just so much to see and learn. Great for any age.

Best place to go in a rainy day. There's so much to see. I spend 5 solid hours and still feel like I haven't seen everything. I am from California so my entrance ticket fee was $30, but I added $13 to upgrade my ticket to enter every special exhibition. I had so much fun even though I am all by myself.

I visited this Museum approximately two weeks ago, and my experience was amazing. There’s a lot of interesting things in there to look at from Dinosaurs to the Culture of different regions. It’ll take you around 4-5 hours to walk through the entire museum. I also recommend you to get the City pass and they’ll include one of their movies to watch in the museum’s theater. There’s a Cafe inside the building where you can get some snacks if you get hungry. I recommend you to go in the mornings. Absolutely recommended!

There is so much to look at this museum. I spent about 7 hours here just walking around and looking at all of the displays. Each exhibit was so amazing and offered so much knowledge. Some exhibits does require an upgrade if you only have the general pass and not that all access. So many restrooms throughout the museum and easily accessible and so many sanitizing stations/pumps everywhere. There was a cafeteria style food court with yummy hot food (a little pricey) so I do recommend bringing your own food. You can enjoy that in the lower level by the picnic area/vending machine.

While in chicago we visited the field museum. It was so great. We bought tickets online with our reservations. We went late afternoon on a Saturday and it wasn’t too busy. Parking was $25 - wasn’t too thrilled about that, and it gives you 4 hours of parking. Located close is the aquarium and some other fun things to do. We only went to the field museum. We spent 2 hours and walked all the floors. The Dinosaur exhibit was hands down the best and it’s just crazy to see these put together. They have “sue” the oldest T-Rex and it was amazing to see her put together. We were just in awe. If you’re looking for some time to kill the field museum won’t disappoint, of course it’ll cost you to enter and park but it really was worth it.

A phenomenal museum with exhibits covering 4.5 billion years of our planet's history! One of the most famous exhibits is T-Rex, SUE. (Spoiler alert: scientists aren't sure if she's male or female.) There are lots of fossils and skeletal remains of dinosaur and other prehistoric creatures. There's a large hall of taxidermied animals from all over the world, including some that are now extinct. Another great exhibit is the room of gems. As an added bonus, the building itself is a work of art.

This museum is beyond incredible and each exhibit has some awe-inspiring component. You can easily spend a whole day here. The little cafeteria has pretty good food. Each area has its own little themed gift shop. I can't recommend this place enough and only wish I'd had more time to spend here.

Listen I'm a museum nerd. I have been to all the big ones in NY and in Philly. The Field museum is hands down the most beautiful. They have so many awesome exhibits too. The people who work there are really nice and helpful. It was bananas busy when we went but there's so much space it hardly feels like it. Go learn and read and immerse yourself in some knowledge

The museum is a must in Chicago! It is easy to find. The ticket is a little expensive but it is worth at least once. Go with a lot of energy because there are several things to see and enjoy. You have 2 floors full of information and activities to try and learn. It is a good option for kids and adults. The main attraction is Sue the T-rex which is phenomenal. 100% recommended!

Amazing natural history museum! So much to see and do for all ages. So much it may take you two visits to get it all in. My great-grandfather was a taxidermist here in the 1920s & 30s and it’s cool to still see some of his work credited on the displays.

The Field Museum has both the best dinosaur and ancient Egypt displays that we have ever seen. This experience today was even better than our last visit. I feel that they upgraded the T Rex exhibit since our last visit. In any event, this is a special, must-see museum, while in Chicago, particularly the dinosaur wing.

The large museum is located on three floors. Be prepared to spend a whole day if you want to go around and see all the exhibitions, and maybe not just one)). The queue at the checkout was not long, but the service was very slow. At the time of the visit, the weather outside was cool, all visitors were wearing outerwear, but the wardrobe was not working. According to employees, the wardrobe opens in mid-November. If you come alone with two children, be prepared to wear three jackets, which is very inconvenient. The museum is interesting if, as a child, you adored dinosaurs and loved Indian games, or if you are delighted with zoology and archeology. The average tourist may find this museum a bit boring and too big compared to other technology museums. So when I'm making a list of museums to visit in Chicago, this one definitely won't be at the top of my list.

We only had 2 hours so missed a lot, but lived what we did see. Just the architecture was amazing. The exhibits were great, informative, plentiful. A bit of a maze getting around everything, which made the 2 hours go way to fast. Would love to get lost in here for a full day.

I spent an entire day at this museum from open to close. It was not nearly enough time to see the entire museum. Vast does not adequately describe this establishments size and collection. Floria, fawna, dinosaurs, humans, and even pretty rocks from beyond the stars! Like other world class museums, it helps to have an idea of what you want to see and go see that first, then see the rest at your leisure. This is a place to go if you have curiosity about our world...and beyond.

This is a wonderful natural history museum. I loved the Sue T. Rex exhibit as well as the huge dinosaur in the lobby. The rest of the dinosaur exhibits were also great. There are also huge bird and mammal galleries where you could spend more than an hour. The small display on the representations of races and the discussion on how science contributed to racism and how we need to unlearn them are timely and relevant displays and it's great that the museum gave time and space to this discussion. I spent around four hours here, I guess I could have spent two more hours as there was really a lot of exhibits and I had to hurry up the last few ones.

Had a great time yesterday at the Chicago Field museum. There was so much to do and so much to see. My favorite exhibit was the dinosaur exhibit. (If you haven't been there, I highly recommend it.) There is a HUGE dinosaur named Sue. I also loved the gem exhibit. Seeing the different types of gems, rocks, and gold was super fascinating to me. It was super entertaining and interesting. If you want, you have the option for a tour guide. They are currently having free days going on now through the end of the month. Last but not least, I loved how big the museum was and the variety of options you have such as Africa, Black History, and many others. As much as I would love to say the museum was perfect, I would not recommend it if you don't like being in a loud room or around others. If you have any questions, please feel free to comment down below and I'll answer them as soon as possible.

My husband and I ended our City Pass trip with you all. We had so much fun. I cannot even tell you which was my favorite. From Sue, to the Gems, AND I found the coolest wooden statue in the gift shop. My hubby let me buy it. :-) Your staff was awesome in getting me a box that fit this treasure and wrapped it well. I strongly suggest if you are planning a visit to The Windy City that you purchase the City Pass and go to the places it gives you. We took 3 days and used cabs back and forth most of the time and/or walked. This was an amazing way to spend our anniversary!!

I'm briefly visiting Chicago from Florida after my mom's death. I wanted to take the Orange line into the Loop and visit the Field Museum But, I noticed the Museum was Closed M, T, and W! Seriously?! Why! What a disappointment! If it's due to CV, then allow fewer visitors and stay open during the week!!! What museum is closed so many days!!!! Ridiculous! The Shed Aquarium and the Art Institute are both open! I don't see why the Field Museum is not open! Not everyone wants to come on a weekend or other potential busy days!

Visited Field Museum for the first time on August 12, 2019. Wow 🤩 one of the best moments from visiting Chicago. The museum is very well put together. So many things to see {such as great pieces of history, Dinosaurs, Fantastic Bug Encounters, Grainger Hall of Gems, Regenstein Laboratory, Evolving Planet, Mass Extinction, etc). You will not regret visiting this museum. I look forward to revisiting in the near future

I don't want to encourage people to go too much, as it's right around the capacity I'm comfortable with (we've visited twice during COVID, both times on weekday mornings later in the week - I think they do their big cleaning on Wednesdays? - just to mitigate the unavoidable risks on public places like that). It seems like they're doing as good of a job as anyone could in keeping it safe! You have to book your time ahead of time, and it's been relatively empty (which is good, although I really hope they're doing alright financially). The attractions are obvious (the kiddos have eyes only for the dinos, but their Palaeozoic and Cainozoic stuff is also amazing), and we also had a lot of fun in the Underground Adventure. There's so much stuff I'd really enjoy if I wasn't with the kiddos - I've convinced them to spend some time in the geology exhibit (so cool) and the nature exhibit (and pre-COVID they agreed to the Ancient Egypt exhibit, which was my favorite as a kid) but the Pacific and China exhibits have thusfar been a bridge too far. Just try to be considerate. Kids can be crazy, but take masking seriously, sanitize constantly, and take your responsibility to not let your kids touch stuff seriously. There were a few families together where the kids weren't masked, just running their grubby little hands on everything, and it was really frustrating trying to avoid them because they apparently haven't figured out that we only have museums because we live in a society...

The Field Museum is one of the coolest museums in Chicago. You can spend literally 4 to 5 hours here looking at all the exhibits. If you do not want to pay for the extra exhibits do not worry you can adventure all over the museum and still have a wonderful time. I suggest the gem room, lots of cool gems.

One of the best and most interesting museums that I've ever had the pleasure of visiting. This place is massive and the collection is huge! You could easily spend a whole day here looking at the collection. There's something here for everyone and if you're a history lover this place is heaven! I can't speak highly enough of this museum and it's a must see for anyone in Chicago and for anyone that want's to know more about human history.

Great experience first time in Chicago and spontaneously decided to go here luckily they reopened that day from being shutdown by the city due to Covid. Make sure and check online to see if they are open. I paid the $40 to experience everything in the museum. Plan to spend the day just about. Its a lot to experience and view and read. Its a great museum.

Still a fascinating place to visit. The Jane Goodall exhibit is a new favorite, Highly interactive and informative, things I never knew about the woman or her career. Can't beat the Hall of Gems and Sue is just as impressive now as she was back in '97. Went on a free day, Paid a little extra for the special exhibits but totally worth it. Elevators seem to be out of order right now, So be prepared to tackle some stairs. Maximo makes a terrific centerpiece and the Native American exhibits are incredibly detailed and full of totems, authentic garments and historical oddities. Had a fantastic time.

This museum was incredible! I was expecting it to be great, and I was looking forward to seeing SUE immensely, but it exceeded my expectations and blew me out of the water. The collection is incredibly expansive and there is something new to look at around every corner. I hope to return to the city soon and go again.

Huge place, plan for a whole day, recommend your own packed lunch (space to eat in lower level). Dinosaur skeletons and animals (bear) are stunning, kids will love it and loads of hand-gel stations and toilets throughout.

The museum is up there with some of the best naturally history museums in the world and it shows. The exhibits are extremely well done and very informative even if some of these exhibits are fairly old, the upkeep and care is still very evident. Be mindful that if you have never been here, you will need a full day to get through all of the exhibits. Also, the cafe has ok food, but it is extremely expensive which I suppose is par for the course for a museum. I would definitely recommend anyone coming here to make sure you make a day of it. When you are done at the museum, explore the area around the lake or go through Grant Park. It’s a wonderful way to spend a day.

Impressive and very vast collection of natural history specimens ranging from fossils to an exhibition on slavery. A world of fascination. I suggest you allot an entire day. It's just so vast. Items on exhibit are neatly arrange, well preserved, well curated and with clear descriptions. Great for kids 6 and up.

You could spend a whole weekend here and barely scratch the surface of everything. While Sue the T Rex is the main attraction, there is so much to see and appreciate. The staff is amazing, passionate and informative. This is a must see in Chicago. I also recommend watching the documentary Dinosaur 13 before seeing Sue as it really gives a lot of perspective on what it took to get Sue to Chicago.

Great place for a day-cation for anyone. The museum was absolutely enormous and had some really cool dinosaur bones including famous SUE T-Rex Skeleton. The reason I gave this 4 stars is that the bathroom area is a bit small for a family as well as the gift shop was extremely overpriced. All in all though it was a worth while experience for a 24 dollar day pass. You should go at least once if you get the chance!

Our favorite of the big Chicago museums. My husband has the membership so we both get in free, even the ticketed exhibits! They are always getting new exhibits here, so even if you go often, there is usually something new to see. The food in the snack bar is actually pretty good, and not too expensive. They even offer alcohol and coffee. I suggest going on weekdays if you can, as the weekends are super busy. Nice gift shop, but very pricy.

I had a great time at the Field museum. The exhibits are quite interesting and the interior of the building is just stunning. You definitely want to take a full day to explore all the rooms and attractions they offer. We used the CityPass to get into the museum and it turned out to be quite convenient. Just remember to make your reservations with time, since the additional attractions (experiences) fill up fast! Their parking lot is not very large, but you can use the parking lots just south of the museum over Special Olympics Dr. (we used the North garage).

Incredible museum! It is everything as advertised! Sue was spectacular and there were many exhibits at the museum. Price is def worth it! You can easily spend half a day here to check out all of the different exhibits. The animals were really good too, with pretty much all species you can think of! I was first into the museum and bought tickets ahead of time. If you get there early there’s probably no wait but I’d recommend buying tickets ahead of time online.

We had an amazing experience there....few things to note: 1. It is very difficult to cover it all in one day, so prepare and arrange for multiple trips, 2. Food canteen has good menu and reasonable prices, so no need to bring food, 3. You need to walk a lot, so wear good supportive shoes. 4. If you want to take the full experience, get the tickets, including all exhibits and 3D movies. 4. Buy city pass: it will save you monet even you only do 4 places. Have fun.

I feel in my lifetime I've been here at least twenty times and I feel like they need to update here and there...but it still remains good. The Africa exhibit looks exactly like how it did in the 90s. Still, not bad just looks forgotten. They have a fish tank in there with one lonely fish, that was kinda sad, like there wasn't even vegetation in there or a fellow fish to keep him company. But although we didn't get to it this visit, the gem hall is so gorgeous and really something to see.

The Field Museum is one of the finest science and natural history museums I've enjoyed visiting. The exhibitions are expansive, and there are numerous interactive programs available. I was particularly captivated by the sections that recreated scientists' exploration methods and labs. With its many special exhibitions, I believe it warrants multiple visits. It's rare to find a science museum of this caliber anywhere worldwide. If you're in Chicago, it's a must-visit

What an AMAZING museum! From the moment you see the beautiful building and then enter the main area, you are met with 2 large elephants and a huge dinosaur skeleton hovering over you; you know you are in for some impressive displays! There are so many informative exhibits and engaging displays. The infamous, “Sue” dinosaur skeleton is housed here and they do a wonderful job of highlighting her and how helpful she has been in understanding the history of dinosaurs. There are a few other exhibits you have to pay extra to observe (I know other museums do this as well but I find it annoying because the fee of the museum is already very pricey). We bought the Go City all inclusive pass and it gave us admission to this museum along with one other paid exhibit. We chose the tour named, “Underground Adventure” and would recommend this tour for younger audiences but not for adults. We have a 7 and 2 year old and they enjoyed it but I would recommend other exhibits for adults. I really enjoyed learning about many other cultures, their history, some of America’s history and about animals. This museum has large amounts of taxidermied animals and I am extremely sensitive to seeing endangered/extinct animals taxidermied but I do understand that all of these animals have been here for 50+ years and so I tried not to think of it and appreciated it more for the documenting of current and past animals as well as for future generations who sadly may never know many of the animals housed here. Google said on average people spend about 3.5 hours at this museum but we spent all day here and we still felt like we rushed to get to see everything. There is just so much great information here, I highly recommend visiting this museum!

Worth every penny. IL residents have access to free days and receive discounts on other days. Just have an ID with proof of residence. This place is MASSIVE. Look online and see what exhibits you really want to see. Make a plan. You likely won't be able to see it all in one day so prioritize. The dinosaurs and T-Rex, Sue, are a must.

It's a fantastic museum, but unfortunately we got there later in the day and the museum is only open until 5. Sure, that's not that abnormal for a museum, but there's just so much to see it would be great if they had longer hours. Particularly interesting was the Dinosaur exhibits, and leading up to that area, the gallery where you travel through the time periods of the earth.

The experience that I had at this museum was absolutely amazing! There are so many different exhibits that I feel there is something that will appeal to everyone. My personal favorite is the prehistoric section, just because I am very into learning about dinosaurs. I also love the 4D movie about the story of Sue, the T-Rex skeleton that is in the main section of the museum. Very fun, would be perfect for everyone of all ages!

Now it is a fun place with cool and interesting exhibits, but my latest experience made me not want to go back. There is an eating area in the basement, and it is extremely dirty. I lost my appetite. That, said they make it impossible for you to bring your own food. If I have to avoid half the museum because of cleanliness, it makes me not want to go.

  • 5/5 Allen A. 3 years ago on Google
Definitely my favorite museum in the city. Not as much "cool" stuff as MSI, but if you're a fan of world history and culture, this is the place for you. Be prepared to spend all day, and more here if you want to take in everything, because there are a lot of exhibits and a ton of information to process. The staff here is very friendly, and the museum store has a bunch of cool stuff as well, though it's a little expensive, but that's typical for a gift shop. There are a variety of parking options, which again, are on the expensive side, so if you're driving, be prepared to spend a lot. My only complaint is that the membership doesn't cover parking, like MSI, but that's probably because The Field doesn't have its own lot. Other than that, I highly recommend this museum. It's a clean, comfortable, and very quiet environment.

  • 3/5 David M. 3 years ago on Google
This museum has a lot of interesting stuff, plenty to see and do, and a well-rounded collection that the whole family can enjoy. The only flaw that I see is that some aspects of the museum are a little bit dated, and it is not very clean. They also don't provide a well-kept space for people who brought their own food to eat at. The only spot where you are allowed to eat your own food is in a small and incredibly dirty room in the basement, cramped with elementary school cafeteria style tables. This does not prove to be a nice eating experience. But most of the time I enjoy myself and I do have fun, despite some major flaws.

I’ve brought my children here when they were younger and now my granddaughter loves it. Sadly due to the negative media coverage of Chicago, the visits are way down. Field museum is one of the best museums in US. The good - Amazing place to go through a detail walkthrough of history, civilizations, dinosaur fossil replicas especially the T-Rex is simply amazing, you can spend a few hours or whole day ( would recommend whole day) - if you are lost on what to watch pick these - Griffin halls of evolving planet & sue the T-Rex, Gidwitz hall of birds, inside ancient Egypt, Halls of Pacific, Meteorites all of which are included in basic pass. The bad - Too much to walk and see will tire you out, esp if you small kids you will have a hard time. The eatables are spread out mostly in ground level and not many options and very expensive., Better to carry your own food. No discounts for out of state residents ( Illinois residents alone get a discount duh!). But overall one of the must visit best museums to visit several times. For passes - If you have Costco membership they offer very cheap passes or get one group on or easy pass

The museum was very empty and we had time to view everything without feeling rushed. Partly because of the lack of tourists during COVID and also because of the precautions the museum has taken for everyone's safety. Because of this, some part of a few exhibits are closed. World class museum! Fly out to visit it! Easy access by subway and a two stop bus ride. Its very big. I recently went during these covid times. Everyones safely wearing masks and sociall distant. It seemed to have EVERYTHING! It had a plant and tree specimen section that had its very own hall too. The ancient Egypt and Americas section was amazing! They even have some very informative and interactive sections for kids, well the type of kids that are not the museum kind of kid. Take them to these first to wear them out of too much extra energy for a lil. I was the kind of kid that would read each display and that loved paleontology! This is arguably the best place to come to for paleontology! They have the largest animal to have ever walked the earth on display, an titan named Maximo! Seeing pictures is one thing but being right next to just its leg makes you wonder! Its so big you have to walk away, not step back, i mean walk away to see all of it (yea keep walking nope keep going ok now you can take a pic of whoever is posing next to it). Much bigger than the brachiasaurus in the Jurrasic park movie. There was a huge flying dinosaur like animal that scientists estimated moved at 60+mph. It was taller than a semi truck it was taller than a small tree. I didnt expect to see that. Standing next to a feathered replica humbled you because you know damn well it would have snapped you up like a bird eats a worm or fish. You didnt see this one in the movies. Sue the Trex has her very own exibit, seemingly larger than i thought. Strong word of advice dont save the best for last the place is so big you might not get to spend all the time you wanted at what your into. There are many vast exhibits to see. Even the bird collection is huge. They are lacking a Harpy and a Philippine eagle which are the largest. BUT because they are facing extinction they should display replicas to show everyone and generate positive support towards conservation. Great natural history museum! Fly out to visit it you wont regret it.

An amazing experience. More exhibits than you can look at, and appreciate, in one day, even with just the General Admission ticket. I'll be going back again for sure. Some areas were closed due to ripple effects of COVID(less staff, less visitors, etc). I loved the mummies and the History of the Americas, that was really interesting. Compared to other museums around the world (Japan, Italy, Cambodia, etc) The Field Museum has just a much of an experience, though it seemed to be aimed heavily at children in some areas.

The Field Museum is without question the greatest Chicago attraction. You can bring a family here, a date, or come alone and enjoy it equally. 1-2 solid rotating attractions keep returning fresh with the already excellent base of exhibits.

The Field Museum is one of the coolest museums in Chicago. You can spend literally 4 to 5 hours here looking at all the exhibits. If you do not want to pay for the extra exhibits do not worry you can adventure all over the museum and still have a wonderful time.

Great visit to Field! Never been before, and was visiting Chicago during COVID. We had a trip planned to Shedd, and got done early there so decided to drop by. It is HUGE! Just be warned to wear sensible shoes, you will likely walk miles and miles, and spend hours on your feet. Was slightly disappointed with the layout during COVID as its all one way. I felt like I was in an IKEA where I could not see what I wanted thought walking through a bunch I did not. Also, NO need to pay for the full pass unless you really want to see something in the special exhibits.

Highly recommended to visitors coming to Chicago! My favorite parts are the dinosaurs and the ancient Americas. Sue (the T-Rex) is a must-see. The ancient Americas area provides very detailed view of the history and also a very good collection that other museums might be difficult to catch up with. Also, the Egyptian part is also pretty interesting. We came here twice already, but still felt that we haven’t finished everything.

What a great place to visit. Sue is an amazing experience. 3D movies are fantastic. However, their gift show is thoroughly disappointing. No Sue to buy! Sue gift shop has cheap Chinese stuff, which you would buy at a street shop! Museum store has extremely expensive jewelry, a Hindu temple kept in a fairly disrespectful manner, which has no reason to be there. Magnet collection is not great either. Our kids who were given $100 to spend, walked out with soft toys worth $25. That never happens!! Also, no one and absolutely no one except the gentleman who was at the insect exhibit, was polite. All unhappy n rude people.

Holy cow. Give yourself ample time to get through the Field Museum!! There's so much to see... we arrived at 2:30pm after hitting the Shedd Aquarium, and they closed at 5:00. We still had several exhibits that we hadn't seen yet. The museum does a fabulous job maintaining artifacts and everything was presented so well. The exhibits were wonderfully designed. Field Museum does not require a reservation time the way that Shedd does. We used a City Pass and were able to walk in, no problem. Absolutely worth a visit!! Bring the kids.

Fantastic. Loved the exhibits and learned that there are a lot of animal species in this world. The mineral area has a rock exhibit that only readers or listeners of Project Hail Mary will get. So much to learn yet so little time. You really need the whole day to fully appreciate the museum. The Egyptian exhibit was refreshing and full of cool mummies. The staff were great amazing. I lost my wallet and it was quickly found and safely with security when I inquired about it. That was a life saver. 10/10 will go again.

So many great sections of this museum. 3 floors of fantastic displays. Plan a whole day because it will take you at least 5-6 hours to get through the whole thing. There are bathrooms on every floor that are easily accessible, several cafes, movie theater for 3d movie, and a VR ride. There are several areas that are upgrades that we didn't get to see, but maybe next time.

It's the Field Museum! I've been here several times, and I always enjoy their special events. I dropped in recently with just a regular admission ticket and as always I enjoyed my romp through the exhibits, learning and remembering facts from previous visits. Great time, always. I did stop by the DNA area upstairs in hopes to catch scientists doing their thing behind the glass. Unfortunately none could be seen, even after I tapped the glass to lure them out. Staff mentioned they were probably in the back feeding. Better luck next time!

Lots to see here for a history buff. The architecture is amazing and the exhibits are well displayed with excellent lights, colors, and atmosphere that is fitted to each individual display. I do suggest that you don't come hungry. Pizza 8.58 for an inedible slice and $51 for 9 beverages for teenagers. This is not a great place for small children.

This museum really has something for everyone of any age. It is huge so plan to spend many hours there to see it all. You can get in with a City Pass or by buying a ticket outright. You can bring in your own snacks or buy food there. The place has multiple floors and all are accessible by elevator so no worries if you have a wheel chair or stroller, etc. It is a very busy place so be prepared for large crowds. For anyone that is a fan of dinosaurs this is the place for you. However, right now, they happen have a really cool multi-media interactive exhibit called Wild Color that was really fantastic! Colors, scents, sounds...something for all the senses found in nature.

Great way to spend a rainy Saturday! Allow yourself several hours. Lots of interactive things for kids and grown-ups to enjoy. Beautiful gift shop. The 3D movie was worth the effort to schedule a viewing. Do that toward the end and give your feet a break. Nice cafeteria option to lunch there as well. Our 7 and 5 year old girls loved it.

  • 3/5 Eldric 2 years ago on Google
This museum is fairly massive. If you plan on seeing it all, make sure you wear comfortable shoes. There are 3 floors with several areas of content on each. We walked for several hours and looked at most of the areas. In total, we walked about 9 miles with more to see. We did elect to ourchase the all access pass, which includes every area and a 3D movie. The movie was pretty interesting and the 3D effect was good. After going to the Smithsonian a few times I felt this museum was lacking presentation. The content is everywhere and plentiful but for some reason it didn't have the wow factor as other museums I have been to. It is still a worthwhile visit and I highly suggest it for families with younger kids. We did use the North lot parking, which is 24hrs, and cost $30 per vehicle. All day parking isn't too bad but still pricey. I suggest seeing other sites in the area and not just the museum. The Aquarium is next door and a short hike north gets you to the Millenium Park. Come early and walk you feet off. There is so much to see.

  • 4/5 Jason A. 1 year ago on Google
Have not been here for 30 years. It has changed a lot and come with a heafty entry fee. All the cool exhibits require additional money and reservations to see. Plan on spending 3-4 hours there. There is no good food there and for 4 people is bill was just under $80! Bring sack lunches. Parking is available under soldier field but will set you back a whopping $30. If you are visiting more than on museum, get the City Pass. You will safe some on admission but not on parking.

Came here and was totally worth to pay for all the ads-on exhibits. The underground world was real good, with the worms and spiders. The sound effects made it more realistic. The 3D Titanosaurus show was very informative and educational. Can easily spend a whole day here. The animal displays were realistic as well. Was happy to see a koala ☺️

It was a wonderful trip with the children. Huge museum. It takes several hours to visit all exhibits. There are three floors; our favorite one was the upper floor, where you can see the dinosaurs. You can discover many things, including ancient Egypt, most animal species, gemstones, etc. Overall it was a pleasant experience; the Field museum was well organized, and very clean. Parking is a problem, so we used the bus. Recommended if you especially want to spend good time with family, friends..

The Field Museum in Chicago is a true gem of the city and a must-visit destination for anyone who loves natural history and science. From the moment you walk through the doors, you are transported to a world of discovery and exploration, with exhibits that showcase the incredible diversity of life on our planet and the fascinating history of human civilizations. One of the standout features of the Field Museum is its massive collections of fossils and skeletons, including a full-size Tyrannosaurus Rex and a complete Stegosaurus, as well as numerous prehistoric mammals and other creatures. The museum also has a rich collection of cultural artifacts, including textiles, pottery, jewelry, and other objects from cultures all around the world. The Ancient Americas exhibit is especially fascinating, with a wealth of information and interactive displays about the Aztecs, Mayas, and Incas, as well as other ancient civilizations of the Americas. Another highlight of the Field Museum is the vast array of interactive displays and activities designed to engage visitors of all ages. From hands-on exhibits that allow you to touch and examine real specimens to digital displays that provide a cutting-edge learning experience, there is something for everyone here. Whether you're a seasoned museum-goer or a first-time visitor, you're sure to find something that captivates your imagination and expands your understanding of the world around you. Overall, I highly recommend the Field Museum to anyone looking for a unique and enriching experience in Chicago. The museum is well-organized and easy to navigate, with knowledgeable staff on hand to answer questions and provide additional information. Whether you're interested in dinosaurs, anthropology, or just a good day out with the family, you won't be disappointed with a visit to the Field Museum.

This was a fantastic experience. Their exhibits are extremely informative and expansive--there is something for just about anyone. High quality exhibits and a ton to offer for the whole family. Great diversity across all exhibits. Clean facilities. Decent food option (but expensive). Order tickets in advance and get there early. It was nice having some breathing room getting there right at 9.

Amazing museum, the dinosaurs alone are well worth it but there's also many other great exhibits like the Native American exhibit, the Egypt exhibit, the World of Plants, even smaller ones like the Hall of Gems are very interesting. Staff is very polite and clearly enjoy the museum a lot. The Field Museum is also typically less crowded on weekdays than some of Chicago's other museums, so you may not have to wait as long to see everything. Inside looks small when you enter the main hall, but you'll need hours to see everything you want. Good for a day trip, but plan ahead and see what tickets you need to purchase to see everything.

We had a wonderful time at the Field Museum. We were worried our six year old would quickly lose interest and want to leave once we were done with the dinosaur exhibit but he stayed engaged and excited for our entire four hour visit. The coat/bag check lady was exceptionally nice and informative. We got there at noon on a Sunday and there was zero line at the entrance. We only got through maybe a 1/4 of of the exhibits, there is so much to see. We are definitely coming back to explore some more. My only suggestion...I wish the info placards were bigger with a much bigger font. I could hardly read most of them especially in the dark Egyptian wing. Someone must of had a fun time cleaning my nose print off all that glass. Sorry! Also, the labels on many of the specimens were SOOOOOOO tiny, it was hard to see which item matched which description.

This may be one of the best museums I’ve ever been to. I had no idea it even existed until I went as a camp counselor with a bunch of kids. They have every bird, animal, and dinosaur you can imagine on display. It flows beautifully and it’s really amazing to see the diversity of nature all in front of you. Seriously incredible. We also got to experience the “death” exhibit that was featured when we went there. I’m not sure how long it will be on display but that was awesome too. So thoughtful and beautifully curated.

The Field Museum of Natural History is a must-see for anyone visiting Chicago. It is one of the largest and most comprehensive natural history museums in the world, with over 40 million artifacts in its collection. The museum's exhibits explore everything from dinosaurs to ancient cultures to the latest scientific discoveries. Some of the most popular exhibits at the Field Museum include: Sue, the largest and most complete Tyrannosaurus rex ever discovered The Ancient Egypt exhibit, with a replica of a three-story tomb and one of the largest collections of mummies in the United States The Inside Africa exhibit, which takes visitors on a journey through the continent's diverse wildlife and cultures The Nature Walk, a living exhibit that showcases plants and animals from around the world The Abbott Hall of Conservation, which explores the latest scientific research on climate change and sustainability The Field Museum is also home to a number of temporary exhibits, which change on a regular basis. These exhibits have featured topics such as the Titanic, the history of chocolate, and the art of video games. The Field Museum is a great place to learn about the natural world and human history. It is also a fun and interactive place to visit, with plenty of hands-on activities for kids of all ages. Here are some tips for visiting the Field Museum: Allow at least 3-4 hours to see the museum, or more if you want to see everything. Wear comfortable shoes, as you will be doing a lot of walking. Bring a water bottle and snacks, as there are no food or drink concessions inside the museum. Take advantage of the museum's free audio tours, which are available in multiple languages. If you are visiting with children, be sure to check out the museum's family activities calendar. The Field Museum is open every day from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Admission is $29 for adults, $24 for seniors, and $17 for children ages 3-11. Tickets can be purchased online or at the museum's box office. I highly recommend visiting the Field Museum if you are in Chicago. It is a truly amazing place that is sure to entertain and educate visitors of all ages.

The Field museum is a must see in Chicago. The amount of knowledge you gain is amazing. The exhibits are highly informative and extensive. The native American exhibit and of course Sue were my favorite parts. Bring a bag lunch and eat downstairs in the cafeteria area. Vending machines have drinks and snacks.

It's a cool museum that you can spend hours at if you really wanted to. We went as part of the My City Pass. We enjoyed a few of the special exhibits that were available - Cyrus Tang Hall of China and First Kings of Europe. We also enjoyed the quick movie - Titanosaur 3D.

  • 5/5 Ayse 5 months ago on Google
Keep in mind that the North entrance is closed and you must take the East entrance. We used our Chicago pass to get access to the museum, which also granted us free access to one of the following three exhibits: Underground Adventure (suited for kids), China and First Kings of Europe, which was a nice surprise. I would recommend grabbing a map on your way in. We tried to freestyle it, which is definitely also possible, but you might get 'lost' as it is a huge museum with lots of different halls. You can touch a real dinosaur bone at the science lab, which is very cool.

My visit to The Field Museum was an enriching journey filled with fascinating exhibits and a wealth of knowledge. The impressive collection spans from ancient civilizations to the marvels of the natural world, catering to a variety of interests. The layout is visitor-friendly, ensuring an immersive and educational experience. The staff’s enthusiasm and expertise shine through, enhancing the visit with their insights and willingness to engage with guests. It’s apparent that there’s a strong dedication to education and preserving history at this institution. Although the museum can get crowded, especially during peak hours, the sheer size of the place ensures there’s plenty to see and explore without feeling too overwhelmed. The admission fee might be a bit steep, but considering the extensive collections and the unique learning opportunity it provides, it’s a solid investment for an enriching day out. In terms of location, The Field Museum is conveniently situated, making it easy to pair a visit with other attractions in the area. The facilities are well-maintained, and there are ample amenities to ensure a comfortable experience. In conclusion, The Field Museum is a treasure trove of knowledge with something to captivate visitors of all ages. Whether you’re a history buff, a nature lover, or simply looking for a stimulating day out, this world-class museum is a must-visit. The combination of fascinating exhibits, enthusiastic staff, and a welcoming atmosphere make for an unforgettable experience. Highly recommended!

One of my all time favorite museums in Chicago! Great for all ages and the historical significance and magnificence of the fossils and artifacts is just breathtaking! As with all museums, the better you plan the visit the less overwhelmed you’ll feel. This is a museum you can visit in one day

  • 5/5 Polly 5 months ago on Google
This was our favorite iconic adventure, BUT we got behind schedule and only had 1 1/2 hours to go through the museum. We could have spent all day here! The Field Museum would be great for kids 12 and up (to 100)! In my opinion, small children would like it, but I feel a parent/caregiver would end up aggravated because there are so many exhibits small children can't interact with so you would just be chasing them instead of enjoying and reading exhibit information. All in all, it's worth the stop!

The Ancient American exhibition is really good. It has great storyline to show case the history and the culture. I have been to CDMX and Vancouver museums which also focus on Ancient American history, if cannot visit those local museum in short term, the Field Museum exhibition did really good jobs. Totally worth the visit.
