This place has an internal parking lot which I wish I knew earlier. Also, it's better if you buy your tickets in advance otherwise you'd have to wait in a long line. This museum is a must-visit, only that if you're an adult, I would recommend to start your visitation with the third floor instead of the ground floor. On the third floor, you get a lot of hands-on with science stuff and recent technology. You get better exposure and can take better pictures. Come prepared to spend like 2-4 hours. It gets chilly inside at times. Of course, they have paid exhibitions which you can choose as per your liking. We went for amazing hikes in North America paid exhibition and the experience was spectacular. We were seated in a four-storey dome-based theatre with a movie experience so unique by far. Overall, the museum experience is worth the money, it's so much better for the young kids but the adults can enjoy it as much.

Be prepared to be blown away. This massive museum packs so much to do and see. We (two adults) explored for 5 hours. I will say, there are plenty of sections kids will want to fly through - and others you might have to pry them away from. We selected tornado alley for the film we saw in the dome theater - a really cool experience. Wear comfy shoes! It’s a lot of standing and walking around. There are plenty of bathrooms and lots of vending and food options - for being a museum. You have to pay $22 to park on campus - which I found obscene but it is what it is. Definitely recommend coming here!

Came here last weekend with my fiancé. It was my first time here. This place is really cool! They have things from submarines to toy factories, and there lots of fun little activities you can do too. I recommend it to anyone who's into history and science. My fiancé and I really enjoyed our visit here 😊

A truly excellent museum. I live in the DC area and have grown up near the Smithsonian, a very high quality and free set of museums in the Washington DC area.... This museum is of the same if not higher caliber of museums than any other I have ever experienced. The UBoat exhibit is deep in information and interesting. The entire museum is excellently curated and each exhibit area is worth the cost of admission. I highly recommend this museum if you are within an hour or so drive. Whether it is space, farming, transport, or general science, this museum has it all. Of course, being in the Midwest, the trains featured here are truly impressive, but what really stood out to me was some of the Apollo mission artifacts and history that was on display. Even with 4 and 6 year old children we still managed to spend 6 hours here without running out of interesting things to see! Great for adults and children.

What an amazing science museum! Half a day (or even a full day) isn't nearly enough time to experience it all. So many hands-on experiments for the kids, such as making your own tornado. Get there when it opens to enjoy having some of the areas to yourself. We were especially impressed with the coal mine tour - real mining equipment and our tour guide, Austin, was very engaging. This is definitely on our list again for when we next return to Chicago.

Better than expected and much larger than expected! Dark Universe show was worth the extra expense. The Coal Mine your was interesting and the guide was charismatic, funny, and engaging. All the staff were friendly and knowledgeable. Would love to go back and spend more time exploring.

It’s been so many years since I’ve been to the Museum. I loved it as a kid and love it now maybe even more as an adult. It is a world-class experience. So many things to see and learn. Almost impossible to do it all in a day. We made the mistake of going on a Sunday, and on Sundays they open later than usual. For special exhibits it is worth paying for the Lego, the coal mine of course, and the U-boat. I would not pay for the flight simulator again. It was waiting a while in a line for a timed 3 minute experience in the simulator. We didn’t feel it was worth it. But everything else was spectacular. If you can only afford or have time for one extra thing, do the coal mine. If you can’t do an extra special exhibit, regular admission will still give you extensive access to many things.

Plan for a whole day at least the first time you go. With all the interactive exhibits the whole family can enjoy. I liked the I spy windows. My oldest liked the energy of the future display with the flash window. My middle child liked the farming equipment and setting how they worked. My youngest liked the circus area with the fun mirrors and the imagination workshop. We all had so much fun that it was hard to think of our favorite things.

This museum was my first tourism stop in Chicago and it did not disappoint. They had well-executed interactive displays of everything relating to science and industry. Even a coal miner simulation! I enjoyed the exhibit on “you!” the most. It was interesting to see the modern wearable technologies and the different showcases of how our bodies change with age. I also thought it was very affordable to go. You could easily spend over 3+ hours here. I highly recommend for anyone visiting Chicago.

We paid more to attend the special Pompeii Exhibit which was very well done. The Exhibition is in 2 parts with a timed entry but they let you in an hour in advance so they are not strict like a lot of museums. We thought the cost amount was well worth it. Expect to spend an entire day or 2 at the museum as there is so much to see, we took an hour for the Pompeii Exhibit. The live vibrating volcano eruption of Mt. Vesuvius was very realistic. The gladiator section was very cool as was the kitchen and utensils section. The brothel is well done and you are forewarned if you have children of the content. The rest of the museum is world class and renowned. Learned an incredible amount about modern farming with the John Deere harvester. We love this museum. Parking is easy and only $20 which is reasonable for Chicago. It is such a big museum that it’s hard to feel crowded. The lunch area was super clean and a wide variety of healthy foods.

Amazing museum with plenty of interactive displays. Informative and educational presented in a fun manner. A bit difficult to get to if you don't have a car. Most ride shares will get you out of downtown no problem but a bit of a wait if you're heading back into downtown. You can easily spend the day here. They do have food but at museum prices. They offer a great seating area to eat if you pack your own. Highly recommended and great for kids.

This was an interesting experience. It wasn't our favorite museum in Chicago but it did have a lot of neat things to see and experience. It would be a great place to take elementary age students. The trains and planes were very cool as was the weather area. My favorite part of the German u boat and I really enjoyed reading the history of it. The museum was pretty crowded and only about half of the sanitizing stations actually had sanitizer in then which was a little frustrating since there are a lot of things that people touch. They had a few stains that were closed because they were high touch but it felt pretty arbitrary. I would recommend it but be prepared.

An absolutely fantastic and in depth museum! So much to explore and you will be busy there for at least a couple of hours. My only complaint is how many exhibits cost extra to go into (like inside the submarine or the Lego exhibit). However, we enjoyed nearly every section we explored.

Wow...Wow...Wow! First time back in 20 years & 100% worth it. Try to go as soon as it opens. There are 3 floors & so much to do & see. Very clean, exhibits well maintained & displayed with such care. Everything we saw was simply amazing. We will be back to see Pompeii & the other exhibits that we missed. Great day.

This was a wonderful time and great adventure for our family. My little boy really loved learning about electricity and desperately wanted to see the Tesla Coil fire multiple times. There are multiple hands on experiments and displays to illustrate different scientific ideas in terms that are easy to understand. The Holiday theme was definitely also a beautiful family favorite.

Highly recommend visiting! At a faster pace, it took about 90min. I didn't go into the special exhibits, however if I had to choose again, I'd definitely visit the interior of the submarine. The WW2/U Boat exhibit was incredible, as was the flight one. Plentiful parking but you'll pay for it. I visited on a free day for Illinois residents so definitely check out their website for those days.

My Favorite Museum in Chicago. Had not been back since July 2019! Despite this pandemic, had a great time. We were sad that we didn’t get to see many things we were looking forward to seeing but it makes sense for them to not be avail- pandemic. I love that there is underground parking available, not free, but at least one doesn’t have to walk blocks to arrive to museum. If science is what one likes and just curious of how things work, this is the museum to visit.

Wonderful experience and must visit museum during your trip to Chicago. We went with 1.5 year toddler. He enjoyed every bit of the museum. For shows, we attended Blue paradox, Mirror maze and The Idea Factory. All 3 shows are free included in ticket price. But you need to register for each individual show for timed entry. We purchased tickets at the museum ticket counter on a Sunday morning. There is 15 min wait. Blue paradox: it’s a unique experience, definitely change the way how you see plastic usage after the show. Must visit even if it has ticket in future. Idea factory: My toddler enjoyed idea factory. Tons of things to do for kids here. Mirror maze: Definitely fun filled experience. Parking is plenty. It is $22 per day. They even have a decent cafe inside the museum. You can spend entire day here.

I have been coming here all of my life & I'm turning 62 next month. So many memories, so many World Class Exhibits. And so many changes, updates, modernization, yet its character remains the same. Enter this place filled with wonder & you shall never be disappointed. It's a world onto itself well worth exploring time and time again.

Absolutely love this museum. We are members, even though we live in Florida. Hands-on displays for all ages means everyone can play! I could spend hours at Colleen Moore's Fairy Castle. Every show in the 360 theater is informational and visually stunning. Can't wait to see the Space X exhibit unveiled. Pompeii was tasteful done despite some adult subject matter.

I love the Museum of Science and Industry. Been coming here since I was a child, and every time it's like visiting an old friend and I still manage to learn something new too. Recommend being organized and getting tickets in advance, for both the museum and the activities you want to do - all available easily online. Space the times for activities out at least an hour so you're not rushing and can enjoy exploring the exhibits on your way over. Recommend the tour for the U-505, the exhibit is well done. And I love all the exhibits - it's worth reading up on the Colleen Moore fairy castle before/while visiting and trying to spot all the incredible things in it! Streets of Yesterday, Aviation, model ships and bike science, TRAINS!!! Body and the Blue Paradox...you can definitely spend a full day here, and it's immeasurably rewarding. Food is easy to navigate downstairs but pricey, as to be expected. Staff were incredibly friendly and engaging in my experience.

Train, planes, submarines & A Coal Mine... oh, my? LoL so many amazing and larger than life exhibits await. I can’t wait to see they will do next at MSI it’s always evolving. Limited free days book tickets and play areas, add ons online as to save time and your spot as they fill up fast for the idea factory play area. I doubt it’s open in a pandemic but on a regular trip be advised. Food options are onsite but you can pack a sack lunch and go, limited free or metered parking onsite or garage parking at $24 starting. Takes half a day and can drop off out front strollers not so easy, if you can carry. Pretty pricey if your traveling look for a coupon or multi-pass pack.

My daughter chose the museum as the place she wanted to go for her birthday. It had been a number of years since we had been there. I was pleased to see the main attractions from years ago are still there as well as plenty of new things to see. Most of the interactive displays were very clean and working properly, so the maintenance of the attractions is obviously a priority. Overall the museum was very clean and so were the bathrooms. I definitely recommend that you plan on spending several hours there if you want to see a majority of the displays.

Great place not too many interactive things still open but expected that because of corona :(.... did the vr ride to the moon and it was for sure worth the 30 it was for three of us. Would be way better without all the restrictions but not much they could do. I'd say go if anything to support this place for trying to keep open a fun family museum in the midst of worldwide pandemic.

As always a great museum for all ages. A lot of the exhibits have been there for years and new ones are added for a short time. There's something for everybody. The holiday trees from different countries are always beautifully decorated. A new exhibit celebrating Black Creativity was very educational. Lots of hands on interaction in the exhibits.

Came for the Lego exhibit and wow that was quite something. The artist really took his time crafting those sculptures. I’m not a museum person myself but I’d come again if they had another interesting guest artist exhibit on. Saw some of the other stuff while I was there. The airplanes in the sky were cool and the whole place looks like a great family trip to come to, so much to see and do, especially for the kids.

If I could give more than 5 stars for this museum I would. First time going to this museum, and it was absolutely AMAZING! We had a 9:30am ticket and we stayed for about 3.5 hours. We walked the entire museum and we also saw the Dark universe video at the giant dome theater, and we even did a lab experience called "Dream it, Design it, Fab it" and you create your own mini 3D figure which was pretty cool. Overall, this museum is a MUST.

This is the best museum I've ever visited. My family and I love the Science Museum of Minnesota, but this place blows that out of the water. There is so much to see here that you need a full day almost. Lot's of neat exhibits to explore. The highlight by far was the U-boat. It was amazing as was our guide. I would definitely come back to this museum again if I'm in Chicago.

We loved every minute of the museum! Definitely suggesting buying tickets ahead of time and save money by parking in the back. Many of the exhibits are interactive and make it fun for the kids. We also love going around Christmas time to see all of the Christmas trees beautifully decorated with ornaments from around the world. The coal mine is fun and worth the wait but watch for times and plan based on time slots. We went during the week and the museum was not too busy. Our favorite part is always the Toymaker exhibit but it was closed with no information on when it will open again. Overall plan on being at the Museum for at least 3 hours. We come back every year!

Lots to do! Huge place, so many floors and exhibits. It was very busy weekday with kids and family everywhere but we still spent 3 hours and definitely didn’t get to see everything. I appreciate that they give free admission to military and veterans. Our kids enjoyed different aspects but we were kinda sad we weren’t able to get tickets/entrance to the submarine. We waited too long to get a reservation. One kid said their favorite exhibit was about the elements and airplanes, the other kid said they enjoyed the area learning about water movement and tsunamis. My boyfriend and I enjoyed touring the inside of the train and the plane. If we lived closer, we would definitely come back and see the rest of the exhibits we missed.

An excellent science center and museum. So many hands on exhibits make the learning fun. And it's a great variety of exhibits too. Plus, it's amazing to be in such a historical location. Be sure to take a good look at the outside of the building and check out the Columbia Basin for some lovely landscape.

This place was huge & spectacular. We didn't know about the underground parking so we parked in the lot, used QR code to pay, $20 for 4 hours. You don't enter at where you think you would instead at street level you go through doors then down stairs. There is the ticket sales & gift shop. You head up the escalator to enter the museum. 3 of us were there 4 hours & we didn't see everything. For me the coolest part was the submarine & the glass cases showing the different body sections. Would love to come back & spend more time here someday.

The Zephyr Train exhibit is awesome. My teenager kid and I spent almost 1 hour, exploring all the meticulous displays inside the Train, as well as those in outside... So much to enjoy, so much to learn... Remember to try the 3rd button, on the Mail Wagon, for the amazing MAIL DELIVERY ON THE FLY....

Wonderful museum. So much to see that it's difficult to cover all in one day. Full scale planes as well as simulators and many examples of technological advancement over the years. New featured exhibits throughout the year. Holidays and weekends tend to get pretty crowded but the place is large enough to accommodate the crowds. A wonderful Chicago gem.

First time visiting and I loved it despite missing out on some activities like the U-505 on board submarine tour and learning labs because of covid. I tried the VR transporter, saw the Canada’s great bear rainforest in the dome theater sigh! Such an amazing experience and who doesn’t love Ryan Reynolds voice lol. The flight and motion simulators you have to try too. The Christmas around the world and holiday of lights display is a sight.

Wow what a amazing place . Unfortunately because of the pandemic many on the hands on experiences and exhibitions where closed . If your planning on visiting bring something to eat. They have a cafeteira but it's closed . They do provide vending machine s with candy and chips and cookies that will cost you $3 for a Snickers bar..but there's so much to see that you will get hungry . We'll have to come back to enjoy the full experience of the museum . We had to leave early because we where starving.

This is one of my favorite Meuseum in Chicago. So many things to see, do, learn for all ages. Lot of History around the world on different areas. The train model is one of my favorite piece in the Meuseum. I can look at it for hours. The details are amazing. You can finish your tour in 2 hrs or all day. It depends on your interest. But about 4 hrs is what it takes to review all exhibits without detailed reading. However, the cafeteria is not very great and really expensive. I would recommend packing your food and enjoy it on the garden outside. The parking used to be crazy but due to Covid there were plenty available. Its about $23 for all day. Overall great Museum.

Very big museum. There was an entire floor we didn't even go through because it's just so large. Which is amazing for us! It gives us an excuse to come back. Kids loved every part we were able to see. Life sized airplane, train, submarine and space craft models. Pricey eatery but that's to be expected. They do allow snacks and drinks to brought in as long as you don't eat in the exhibits.

You definitely need the full day to take in all this museum has to offer. From the science displays in the top floors, to the technology in transportation scattered about including the Submarine, models of cars, ships, the detail of the HO layout, farm exhibit, full size locomotive both steam and the impressive exhibit of the 1930s passenger diesel, as well as the full size jet. Staircases are separated by color. Don't forget the gift shop.

One of the best museums I have ever been to. Even the building building itself is worth seeing as it is an exceptional piece of history and construction. There is so much to do and see here for both children and adults alike. I recommend taking older kids who would have a grasp of science or else the experience is wasted on them, and everyone else for having to listen to your toddler cry and scream the whole time. Seeing U-505 in person is extremely humbling and is worth going to the museum just to see it. The dome IMAX is a great experience and shouldn’t be missed.

First-time going (just moved to Chicagoland): This museum was absolutely amazing. We are a family of five (2 adults and 3 children); therefore, I bought a family membership (had a promo code for 20% off). As long as we go, 2 times then we have saved money based on the entry-fee and free underground parking. We had a 1230PM reservation and stayed until closing 530PM. There is something for everyone. My son loves trains and miniature cars/ buildings; he was obsessed with The Great Train Story. Everyone enjoyed the Mirror Maze (make sure you reserve a time for entry). We did not know and got the last time reservation of the day. We ate before entry but the kiddos were hungry about halfway though. We ate in the Holiday Kitchen; the food is expensive for portions but stopped the hunger pangs and kept everyone happy. It was a nice break before going back to the exhibits. Museum was extremely busy due to children being on Holiday break. All of the extra attractions were sold-out about 2 weeks out so plan ahead on no school days. Closed during visit: Coal Mine and Submarine Tours. The members lounge.

Amazing experience! Interactive exhibits. The U boat was incredible to see and learn about. Plan ahead if you want the tour - it sells out days ahead. Loved the ships exhibit. The space exhibit was cool with real Apollo capsules, but the area needs updating to include current space travel / Space X.

I absolutely adore this museum and make a point of stopping by every time I’m in Chicago. This time around I saw a temporary exhibit on Pompeii, checked out the truly awe inspiring Fairy Castle, took a tour through a coal mine, saw Cloned mice and saw the new Mold A Rama exhibit. Speaking of Mold A Ramas, I managed to pick up 3 new ones for my collection: Paul Bunyan, Hatching chicks and the Chicago Skyline. I 1000% recommend this museum

We were on a trip to Chicago for something else and decided to check this out. We also paid extra for the U-505 tour. This is an excellent museum with tons of great exhibits. I'd say you can skip the farm tech section as we didn't find it very interesting and it's more geared towards kids, but the rest was fantastic. The U-505 tour is not for those with claustrophobia, but it's an incredible experience. Whether on your own or with kids, I highly recommend this museum.

I recently visited the Chicago Science Museum, it's seriously cool! You can have an absolute blast there with all the hands-on stuff they have. It's not just for little ones, even grown-ups like me can have a ton of fun. What's really neat is how you can get hands-on with science. You can mess around with experiments, interactive displays, and it's all super enjoyable. And don't think it's just for the kiddos. I'm an adult, and I had an awesome time exploring and trying out different things. It's like being a kid again, but with all the wisdom of adulthood. If you happen to find yourself in Chicago, make it a point to stop by the Science Museum. Trust me, it's well worth your time! * Check out museum free date!

Hands down the best tourist attraction in Chicago, also one of the priciest. Give yourself multiple hours for your visit. It's a great spot to bring kids because there is a lot of big things to look at and touch, like planes, trains, mercury spacecraft, tornadoes, etc.

Absolutely a must see! Buy your tickets through Chicago City Pass, it's economical and allows you to cut the regular line. This is the museum for all ages. The exhibits are well organized and cleverly presented. They pull you in and keep your attention. People of all ages will enjoy the museum. I highly recommend the mining attraction for parents with older kids. Bring your lunch with you they have seating in the basement for families. Vending machines are also available.

We stopped here on our road trip to Chicago. Or from Minnesota? And we frequent the science museum of Minnesota regularly. So much so that we have an annual pass. We were pleasantly surprised to find out that they actually allowed free entry if you had an annual pass from another science museum! We got here a little late and we're prepared to pay quite a bit for our two kids and ourselves to get in, and ended up not having to pay anything which was amazing! Beyond that, the exhibits themselves were great and frankly worth the price of admission if we did have to pay. My son who's eight thoroughly enjoyed exploring the main floor and was obsessed with the tornado and all the interactive exhibits in that area. They also really loved the transportation side of the museum and spent a lot of time in that area checking out the model trains. Everyone here was exceptionally helpful and kind and we were able to make the most of our short stay there. We ended up spending quite a bit of money in the gift shop because there was lots of cool stuff to check out in there! My son is a huge fan of rocks and minerals and he found several things that caught his eye.

Highly recommend taking a trip down I went on a free day for Illinois residents and got to visit the blue paradox. It is a very eye-opening experience that I think everyone should do. Plus it’s extremely beautiful.

The Museum of Science and Industry in Chicago is an absolute treasure trove of knowledge, innovation, and wonder. I recently had the pleasure of visiting, and I can't say enough about the incredible experience it offers. First and foremost, the exhibits are nothing short of mind-blowing. From the moment you step inside, you're transported into a world of scientific discovery and exploration. The sheer diversity of topics covered is astonishing, from space exploration to cutting-edge technology, and from history to the natural world. There's something to captivate and inspire visitors of all ages. The highlight of my visit was undoubtedly the "Science Storms" exhibit, where I got to witness the power of natural phenomena like tornadoes, lightning, and avalanches up close. It was both thrilling and educational, and I left with a newfound appreciation for the forces of nature. The museum also does an excellent job of making complex scientific concepts accessible and engaging. The interactive displays and hands-on activities are not only informative but also incredibly fun. Whether you're a child or an adult, you'll find yourself learning and having a blast at the same time. The "U-505 Submarine" exhibit is another must-see. It's a fascinating journey into the world of naval history, and the fact that you can step inside an actual World War II-era submarine is an experience like no other. The staff at the Museum of Science and Industry are knowledgeable, enthusiastic, and always ready to answer questions and engage in discussions about the exhibits. Their passion for science and education shines through, enhancing the overall experience. The museum's iconic location in the historic Palace of Fine Arts adds to its charm. The architecture itself is a work of art, and it provides a fitting backdrop for the incredible exhibits within. For families, this museum is a dream come true. It's not only educational but also incredibly entertaining, making it an ideal destination for a day of exploration and learning. In conclusion, the Museum of Science and Industry in Chicago is a true gem. It's a place where science comes alive, where curiosity is rewarded, and where you can leave feeling inspired and informed. Whether you're a science enthusiast, a history buff, or just someone looking for a fantastic day out, this museum deserves every bit of its five-star rating. I can't wait to visit again and continue my journey of discovery!

So awesome!!! We arrived an hour before closing and they gave us an end of the day discount which we appreciated! We did a speed run through the museum, but def will come back to check and try everything out. It was so great to learn about ideas and concepts in a more interesting and visual manner. My family and I loved it

Massive museum with plenty to see. Easy to spend several hours seeing everything. Plenty of interactive exhibits to check-out, but we found that a good portion of the exhibits in the science storms area to be broken or not working correctly. Do not miss the Mirror Maze, Whispering Gallery, and the U-505. The fact they have an intact submarine in this facility is a testament to its size. The first video screen room to the Blue Paradox is cool and is definitely worth checking out.

Our group had the best time! They had the Christmas 🎄 trees set up. They were so pretty. We enjoyed riding the escalator. We liked going in the train, seeing the submarine . We went on the plane. My sons favorite was the human body. The Baby area was pretty cool. Also the science storms, tornado was pretty awesome. We enjoyed the mirror maze. It was pretty comical with the older kids. We had no wait time to get in. Definitely going back.

This was our second visit to MSI. We really enjoyed the Christmas trees exhibit, all the lights, and the interactive displays. We visited on a holiday weekend so it was very busy but there was still plenty of space to explore. The restrooms were pretty clean especially given the volume of people. Staff are helpful and friendly. The parking spaces in the garage seem rather small so be careful opening doors. There is enough variety in the exhibits to appeal to children of most ages.

Went with the family yesterday for the free admission and that was great. But most of the touch and interactive sections are closed. Coal mine, submarine and train your are closed along with the food court and the genetics and hatchery also. The movie in the dome theater is open but not free. Overall not bad for being free butt ashame. Most of it was closed off.

Awesome museum. Wish we had more time to spend there, but to be in a building that was there during the 1893 World's Fair was just amazing. We were able to make it to see the sub, the space exhibit, the trains, and the science wing before we had to start heading back to the airport. So much under the roof of this building it does require multiple trips. A good tip if they are busy, buy your tickets off their website. We were able to by-pass the lines at the sales counter doing that. We have a full review of this museum on our website and YouTube channel.

Awesome museum BUT why are they charging full price right now when pretty much everything that is interactive is closed off due to COVID-19?! Also parking is $22 FYI which is ridiculous. Park on the street it's FREE.

The most amazing experience of 2020 for me was visiting this museum! My best friend and I were there from noon to close and were so sad that we had to leave. Even though a few of their interactive exhibits were closed due to covid-19, there were more than enough engaging and stimulating exhibits for us to enjoy. We have already planned a trip back next year :)

MSI is a great museum to visit in Chicago. It is quite large and has many exhibits. There are points of interest for the young and old. Some exhibits are closed due to COVID-19, but there is still plenty to experience. The sheer size of the building is impressive. There is plenty of space to social distance, masks are required and hand sanitizer is available.

I am here to warn other visitors who plan to visit the museum. For over 5 years, my family and I have frequented, until we became members, this museum. An absolutely wonderful place both pre and during pandemic. At my last visit (2 weeks ago), my kid and I got harassed by a security guard at the museum. He used misogynistic slurs towards me, yelled, screamed, and stared down. All of this in front of my child. He was traumatized. I contacted the museum after I left. Had conversations with a few of people who work here. They seemed to take the issue to heart. I learned that the museum hires an outside security company so the security department isn’t the museum’s direct employees. And I learned that my complaint wasn’t the first. After a week, I got a call saying that the investigation was concluded but nothing can be revealed. So I have no idea what was done. No transparency whatsoever. My main concern is if the situation like this is going to repeat itself. The bottom line is I received no assurance. If you visit the museum and encounter this kind of experience. Please report to the museum. Perhaps things will get better if many do.

The Museum of Science and Industry is a fantastic museum. The crowds were kept light due to the pandemic, so it made it really easy to make it through all of the exhibits. A couple of issues due to the pandemic were a few of the exhibits were closed. The inside of the submarine and some of the tighter exhibit halls. Also, they need to update some of the exhibits. They've had some of the same ones since I went there as a child. Some awesome things to do during the holidays were the trees from all of the different countries and the tree in the main rotunda. They all were all very pretty! A nice feature of the aviation exhibit was the United 727 they have. They even had a retired United pilot in the plane to answer questions. As a United 1K member, it's cool to speak about the old school travel days before the craziness of today. Before we finished our visit, my wife signed us up to disect a Cow's eye. I'm squeemish, but my wife and daughter talked me into doing it. I'm glad I did! The staff was really cool and patient. They were awesome people and made us feel really comfortable. Chicago is full of great things to do and has wonderful museums and the Museum of Science and Industry doesn't disappoint. It's a must go for everyone and once this pandemic is over, it will be the full immersive experience it should be!

We loved this museum. Our love for history and science only grew after the day we’ve spent in this place. We highly recommend it and would love to go there again with our youngest son too. Each section is very elaborated, with interactive options. We are not living in Chicago, but if you are in the area, this is a worthwhile trip either as a couple or a group. The park close by is a nice place to take a break after the visit. We found parking very close on a side road at a reasonable price.

Very fun place to spend 6 hours or so. I definitely would encourage anyone to see a movie on the globe theatre, and the interactive exhibits they have at the time. We were lucky and got to see the Lego exhibit!! So wonderful! There are a few little eatery's and places to grab drinks/coffee. We went on a Saturday and it was quite busy. A great place for children, but also adults will find a lot of interesting things here. Museum is huge and contains a large number of exhibits, such as the German U-505 submarine, Boeing 727, or the Pioneer Zephyr train. You can spend a few hours here, and learn about the process of creating tornadoes or the structure of the human body. It's worth going here if you have a few free hours.

My favorite museum. I have been coming here since I was a kid. There are changing exhibits that you can visit so it's not the save every time. I really like seeing the U-505 it's amazing to see in person. It's just an amazing place to walk around. I recommend the Annual Fund Membership. You get access to many places all around and free tickets to the individual exhibits inside the museum.

  • 5/5 Patrick V. 9 months ago on Google
This museum has so much to see. It's best to come early if a day is all you have for you to have any chance of seeing everything. I didn't like that there were quite a few areas that are only available for an additional fee (aside from the special Pompeii exhibit). Favourites for us include the German submarine/U-boat, miniature train exhibit, flight simulators, mirror maze and science storms. I also like that there is relatively cheap outdoor parking behind the museum.

A gem of a place!! If you are visiting Chicago with kids, this should be on top of your must visit lists. What we had planned as a 3-4 hour visit turned into a full day experience! And we didn't even cover all of it. The exhibits are exciting, and the hands-on learning opportunities make the place very fun. The kitchen options are great, and the food quality is very good too. It's a little out of the way compared to most other places of interest. But there is a bus (#10) from downtown that ends right at the museum. Very convenient. The park on the other side of the lake shore drive is an awesome way to end the day after the museum closes!

I was here for 5 hours, including eating at the cafe for 30 minutes. I didn't pay for any of the extra events, as I was here about 7 years ago and remembered how large it is. It is very entertaining as well as educational. I learned a lot. I enjoyed the food at the Cafe, and tried something new (for me) which was a chick pea wrap with curry. The Cafe closes at 2:30, so plan accordingly. There is definitely plenty for the younger children to do, but middle school age and above is a much better age to enjoy all the museum has to offer. So much variety! My favorite areas were the WW 2 exhibits, human anatomy exhibits, and I love those trains, and the fairy castle. And the museum has many more amazing exhibits. You probably need another trip to take it all in.

Fantastic Museum. The building is original from the 1893 worlds fair and is gorgeous. The Pompeii and U-505 exhibits are a must-see. The coal mine tour is fun if you have little kids, but not a must do.

I had such a great time! I've been wanting to go back to the Museum of Science and Industry for a few years now. I'm happy I made it happen this summer. So much to take in! The submarine was a really cool and fascinating experience, but also very dark when you think about everything that took place onboard.

Great museum that shows science and it's applications. Perfect for kids and adults (like me) the food courts is decent and reasonably priced. It's a pretty big place so give yourself at least 2 hours. The coal mine exhibit is worth buying tickets for

I went with my 6 yr old and we had a blast. Our favorite exhibit was the sub that was captured by a US ship during WWII. There was also a VR roller coaster that my son loved. So many other exhibits to see and do there. You can easily spend 4-6 hours. Definitely recommend!

A highlight of my trip to Chicago. So much content inside, everything from flight and train history to how a storm works. You will find something for everyone here, all ages will have a great time. Be aware of extra costs if you want to enter U-505, go in a flight simulator and some other attractions. Most of the museum is open with a normal ticket. The cafeteria had good food, with prices at 10-20 dollars a person for food and drinks.

If you are visiting Chicago and have enough time this is a great museum to visit, family friendly, ideal for curious kids. You can spend an entire day on it. For me the highlight was the U-boat, there are only 4 in display in the world, and this is the only one in the Americas. If you want to go inside the U-boat you have to buy a ticket to do a 25 min. tour ($18 adults), in my opinion it's worth it. Also the blue paradox exhibition was very impressive by the display, this is a free exhibition. During weekdays it is usually very calm and you can enjoy the museum. Entry to the museum is $26 adults, but there are discounts for residents.

Such a great place to visit! Museum is great for people of all ages and abilities! Super interactive exhibits that anyone can enjoy. This museum is massive so if you have the chance, definitely see something different each time you go. The food court is stellar with a bunch of options for everyone! Some exhibits have timed tickets so if you want to see any of those, book them in advance. Overall, such a fun and interactive place to visit!

Loved our visit we took the u boat tour it Was fascinating. The only problem was our tour guide was not very informed On the U boat . She seemed to be stuck on her canceled culture. We felt like we were being preached to. We knew more About that sub Than she did just by watching a YouTube video before our visit.. All and all worth the visit .

An amazing fun and educational museum. My favorite science museum anywhere. The exhibits are superbly designed and executed with so many hands on experiences for kids and adults alike. Space, health, transportation, aviation, weather and so much more. I love this place. The STEM fair today was awesome not only for kids but for this septuagenarian. U-505 -spelling in story and in experience, Pompeii exhibit- better than my visit to the real place. Food - very good, reasonably price, mostly good service with a couple of unfortunate surly servers.

Great place to go with the kids. A lot of hands-on stuff to do. The submarine was awesome, to see the size of an old German U-boat was humbling. Would recommend it. Their train set up was amazing too.

It is one of the best science museums I've ever been to. If you are in town, you have to come and visit. This place is gigantic, and you can spend hours here. The best place you can bring your kids to. So many exhibits and interactions. Do yourself a favor and visit this place.

We had a fabulous visit! It was crowded over with red break but so worth it to see the trees. The staff was nice and the exhibits were fun. We bought our tickets the day before and arrived 45 minutes before opening and I’m glad we did because it was a packed lobby when it opened. As we were leaving we saw the museum had sold out for the day.
