Nice little temple devoted to Lord Buddha set in a sprawling green lawn with shady trees. It is always a picnic here. This Tibetan temple at sarnath is serene and tranquil. Once availing the facility of a local guide who can explain about this place is worth listening as well as must to know about history of this place, hopefully once in a lifetime anyone can visit.

Tibetan Temple, Varanasi Overview A shrine with stunning Tibetan Architecture, Tibetan Temple was where Lord Buddha taught his disciples the four truths of life. The edifice has a beautiful statue of Shakyamuni, prayer wheels and is decorated with traditional Buddhist paintings also called Thangksa. The unique feature of the temple is the prayer wheels that release strips of paper with chants written on them when rotated clockwise.

Sarnath sightseeing takes itself a separate day and you can explore various fascinating cultural and architectural marvels in┬а5-6hrs. Sarnath is an important Buddhist site dating back to the epoch of Lord Buddha.Spiritual Significance: Sarnath is a place of deep spiritual significance for Buddhists. Pilgrims visit to pay homage to the spot where Buddha first taught the path to enlightenment. The serene ambiance and the presence of monasteries create an atmosphere conducive to meditation and reflection.Sarnath Museum remains open all days except friday from 9 in the morning to 5 in the evening. One of the most revered Buddhist pilgrimage centres in the world, Sarnath, is located just 10 km away from Varanasi. It is believed that after attaining nirvana (enlightenment), Lord Buddha delivered his first sermon here, sanctified as the Maha Dharma Chakra Pravartan Sutra.

Clean, well maintained, serene and divine place. There is nothing much to do. Enjoy the ambience and if possible have a talk with one of the monks there. They are friendly and cooperative. Visit inside the temple infrastructure and feel the silence.

Lovely and peaceful atmosphere inside and outside. It was not crowded with tourists or devotees. A neat and well-maintained place to simply sit and meditate. The monk seated inside the temple during our visit was very friendly and stroke a good conversation with us even though we spent a very short time there. He gave insights into the history of Buddhism as well as gave recommendations on monuments to check out in Sarnath.

Many of these temples are built and built by Tibetan, Chinese and Japanese monks. A large number of Buddhist devotees visit the Tibetan temple in Sarnath. Built with traditional Tibetan architectural design, the temple has a statue of Shakyamuni Buddha or Buddha in a relaxed position. Famous for Thangka or Tibetan Buddhist paintings, and frescoes, the Tibetan temple displays many of these on walls and ceilings. Like most Buddhist temples, one can also find here a series of prayer cycles that leave paper scrolls with mantras, when one rotates them in a clockwise direction. This temple, along with many others, was constructed after the renovation of the Sarnath site. A temple is a building that people use for worshipping gods or for other religious purposes. The houses of worship in many ancient religions were called temples. Hinduism, Buddhism, and several other religions today are also temples. The architecture, or building style, of temples varies from place to place. The temples of ancient Mesopotamia (in what is now Iraq) were highly decorated towers called ziggurats. They were shaped like pyramids with large steps. In ancient Egypt temples often had large, decorated columns. (The ancient Egyptians built pyramids, too, but these were tombs.) In the Americas the Inca and the Maya built pyramid-shaped temples. The ancient Greeks and Romans built temples that have influenced architecture until the present day. A Greek temple was made of marble or stone. Its columns enclosed a space holding an image of a god. An altar to that god stood outside the temple. Roman temples were similar, but the altar was inside the temple. Hinduism and Buddhism began in ancient India. People there carved Hindu and Buddhist temples out of cliffs. Later Indian temples were freestanding. They often included tall, elaborately carved towers. As Buddhism spread throughout eastern Asia, temple builders often copied Indian styles. Today Hindu and Buddhist temples range from small and simple to huge and complex. Other religions that have temples include Shinto and Jainism. Jewish synagogues are often called temples, too. Islamic temples are called mosques. Christian houses of worship are generally known as churches. However, Mormons (followers of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints) have temples for special religious ceremonies. The peaceful and traditional Tibetan Buddhist Monastery is a lovely, bright space located close to the main┬аmarket┬аarea in Sarnath. It was constructed in 1955 and is maintained by the Lhadhan Chotrul Monlam Chenmo Trust and has glass display cases filled with miniature buddhas. The very sight of the Tibetan Monastery on the main road is excitingтАФtwo lions guard the very colourful and beautifully-designed entrance. Inside the large and open compound is a light pink stupa as a remembrance and gratitude by the Tibetans to the government of┬аIndia┬аfor granting asylum to the fleeing Dalai Lama. It also denotes to pay tribute to all those who died in TibetтАЩs freedom struggle and those who continue to suffer oppression in Tibet. The door of the monastery is painted in bright red and the walls are surrounded with beautiful frescoes of Buddhist deities. Inside, the central image is a colossal Sakyamuni, another form of Buddha. Sometimes it is possible for visitors to stay overnight at the Tibetan Monastery by paying a small donation; they have many rooms.

A peaceful and silent place to explore. Situated around 2 km of the Sarnath Museum this place offers divine peace. Visit the temples in Sarnath and you will find silence and peace in almost all of them. No matter how disturbed or frustrated you are with your life, these temples guarantees you to take away all of them for the time being. A must place to visit if you are visiting Varanasi or Sarnath.
