Shree AnnapurnaDevi Mandir is located in VARANASI, in Utterpradesh State. AnnapurnaDevi is the Goddess of food and nourishment. The word Annapurna is combination of 2 words ANNA=FOOD, PURNA=TO FULFILL. Since Akshaya Tritiya is considered to be the Birth Date of Goddess Annapurna. The day believed to be very auspicious for buying gold jewellery. Goddess AnnapurnaDevi is dressed in a complete GOLD SAREE AND JEWELLERY etc only once in a year during the Navarathri Festival. She is a Avatar of Parvathidevi, the wife of Shiva. Trust of Annapurna Mandhir offering Free Prasadam and Meals daily.

    Annapurna or Annapoorna (Sanskrit: अन्नपूर्णा, IAST: Annapūrṇa, lit. filled with or possessed of food).is the goddess of food and nourishment in Hinduism. Worship and offering of food is highly praised in Hinduism and therefore, the goddess Annapurna is regarded as a popular deity. She is an avatar (form) of Parvati, the wife of Shiva.and is eulogized in the Annada Mangal, a narrative poem in Bengali by Bharatchandra Ray. The Annapurna Sahasranam is dedicated to the goddess and praises her one thousand names while the Annapurna Shatanama Stotram is dedicated to her 108 names. A few temples exist that are dedicated to her, the most prominent being the Annapurna Devi Mandir and the Kashi Viswanath Temple in Varanasi. Since Akshaya Tritiya is considered to be the birthdate of the goddess Annapurna, the day is believed to be very auspicious for buying gold jewellery.

The current Annapurna Mandir was constructed in the 18th century by Maratha Peshwa Bajirao IThe temple is constructed in Nagara architecture and has sanctum with large pillared porch, which houses a picture of goddess Annapurna. The temple also houses two icons of the goddess; one made of gold and other of brass. The brass icon is available for daily darshan (viewing & worship). The gold icon can be only seen once a year; on Annakut day.[Legend edit In Hindu mythology, there are two popular beliefs behind the origin of this temple. According to one belief, once the goddess Parvati closed all three eyes of her husband Shiva. Due to this, the entire world was filled with darkness. Parvati stole her fair complexion (Gauri form). She asked Shiva for his help to reacquire her Gauri form. Shiva asked her to donate anna (food) in Varanasi. Hence, she took the form of Annapurna (the goddess of food) with a golden pot and ladle, and donated food in Varanasi. According to another belief, once Shiva commented that the entire world (including food) is maya (illusion). Parvati, the goddess of food, got angry and decided to demonstrate the importance of food by making all the food on earth disappear. The world started to suffer due to hunger. Shiva finally came to Parvati and acknowledged the importance of food, begging for food at her door. Parvati became happy, offered food by her own hands to Shiva and then made a kitchen in Varanasi for her devotees.

Annapurna is a combination of two words- ‘Anna’ meaning food and ‘purna’ meaning ‘filled completely’. Annapurna is the goddess of food and kitchen. She is an avatar of Goddess Parvati who is the wife of Lord Shiva. She is the goddess of nourishment and never lets her devotees stay without food. She is also considered to be the goddess of Kashi in Uttar Pradesh. Kashi or Varanasi is called the city of light as the goddess does not only provide nourishment to the body, it provides nourishment to the soul in the form of enlightenment. She gives us the energy to attain knowledge. Goddess Annapurna is depicted with a golden ladle in one hand and a jeweled bowl full of rice in another. The bowl full of grain depicts the bountiful of food she offers all of her children. She is shown as sitting on a throne. Often she is shown with her husband Lord Shiva sitting beside her with a skull in his hand which depicts his begging bowl.

This is a small temple in a narrow lane adjacent to Kasi Viswanath temple. It is clean. The simple shrine has a pleasing atmosphere. At about 600 am, surprisingly there was less crowd, even though there were thousands of devotees in Kasi Viswanath temple at that time. There was no pushing and crushing.

This annapurna temple is very ancient and have great importance religiously. One fact about this temple is that the temple open for only once in a year for common people. This day comes just after the festival diwali and this day is called "*Annakut*". In this holy day a large number of devotees gather here. One more thing is famous on this day is *khajana* distribution. There is a story of Annapurna mata and bhagwan shiv. In this story, mahadev went to her and ask for a food for kashi. So it is famous for kashi that no body sleeps hungry here. ☺

The Aadi Annapoorna Mandir in Kaashi (Varanasi) is dedicated to Goddess Annapoorna, the Hindu deity of food and nourishment. The temple is an important pilgrimage site as it's believed that Lord Shiva himself established the idol of the goddess. The temple is particularly bustling during the Annakut festival.

One of the holiest temples of Varanasi. Very near and almost next to the wall of the main shrine of Sri.Kashi Viswanath ji. Can reach Sri Annapoorna mandir by walking thro one of the gate of Sri Viswanath ji shrine. Can take help from any of the police personnel on duty near by. The pandits at the temple premises are helpful for a very nominal dakshina. To avoid rush early morning visits are suggested.
