I recently visited Chaukhandi Stupa at Sarnath and it was an incredible experience. The stupa is a beautiful and historic monument, with a great view of the surrounding area. The atmosphere at the stupa is very peaceful and serene, with a great vibe that makes you feel very calm and relaxed. The stupa is also home to many local vendors who sell a variety of souvenirs, snacks. Overall, I highly recommend Chaukhandi Stupa at Sarnath for anyone looking for a great place to relax, learn more about the history and culture of the area, or simply enjoy the beauty and tranquility of the stupa.

"Serene and Historically Rich Monument" The Chaukhandi Stupa is an absolute gem that holds both historical significance and an aura of tranquility. As I walked through the ancient site, I couldn't help but marvel at the intricate carvings that adorned the stupa, each telling a story of its own. The blend of Buddhist and Islamic architectural influences is captivating. The surroundings are peaceful, offering a perfect escape from the hustle and bustle of daily life. The stupa's location provides breathtaking views, making it an excellent spot for both history enthusiasts and those seeking solace. The well-maintained premises and informative plaques further enhance the experience. I was particularly moved by the serene atmosphere that seemed to carry the weight of centuries gone by. It's a place that invites reflection and invites you to step back in time. Visiting the Chaukhandi Stupa was an unforgettable journey into the past, and I highly recommend it to anyone visiting the area.

Historically important place but if you are not interested in history then it's just a garden. It will take around 30 minutes here. Ticket can be bought at the entry gate by QR code scanning and making the payment online. One person can book upto 5 tickets only. Parking is not available and police clears the road time to time. You can park your car at the saree selling place but at the end you will have to visit their saree shop.

A place to click some selfies and photos while visiting sarnath when you are in Varanasi, the entry charge is only Rs 20 and you can spend some relaxed time in its park. The stupa marks the spot where Buddha was reunited with the panchavargiya bhikshus, his five companions who had previously deserted him at Rajgir. Chaukhandi Stupa appears to be in ruins and was originally constructed in the 5th Century AD.

Sarnath is an important Buddhist place. It has temples built by different Buddhist countries. I recommend a visit to the town and visit the temples. There is a small little zoo behind the Mahabodhi temple too. Overall it's something we can visit especially for school kids as a learning activity.

The Chaukhandi Stupa is thought originally to have been built as a terraced temple during the Gupta period between the 4th and 6th centuries to mark the site where Buddha and his first disciples met traveling from Bodh Gaya to Sarnath. Later Govardhan, the son of a Raja Todar Mal, modified the stupa to its present shape by building the octagonal tower to commemorate the visit of Humayun, the powerful Mughal ruler.[3] Today the stupa is a high earthen mound covered with a brickwork edifice topped by an octagonal tower. It is maintained by the Archaeological Survey of India.

Chukandi Stupa is a Buddhist Stupa located in Sarnath, Uttar Pradesh, India. The stupa is an important Buddhist pilgrimage site as it is believed to be the spot where Lord Buddha met his first five disciples and preached his first sermon after attaining enlightenment. Chukandi Stupa is a brick structure and is said to have been built during the Kushan period (1st-3rd century CE). The stupa was originally a terraced structure with a central solid core, but it was later renovated and expanded by the Gupta and Mughal rulers. The stupa measures around 22 meters in height and has a diameter of around 47 meters. The stupa has a circular base and is topped with a small dome. The stupa has four entrances, each of which is adorned with intricately carved arches and ornate sculptures. The Chukandi Stupa is surrounded by a large complex that includes several other Buddhist temples, monasteries, and ashrams. The complex is a hub of Buddhist activity and attracts thousands of tourists and pilgrims each year. Visitors to the Chukandi Stupa can explore the surrounding complex and take part in meditation and religious ceremonies. The stupa offers stunning views of the surrounding area and is a must-visit site for anyone interested in the history and culture of Buddhism.

The place is clean, well maintained but do not expect to get into the building and a museum. It's just a park with amla plantations and a circular park. Good thing is that entry ticket purchase is completely online and digital.

It's the kind of a historical place... you'll love visiting if you are into architecture, history and ruins... Get the ticket online and definitely not fall prey to the hagglers outside just waiting for their prey... It's surprisingly well maintained, and the walk around garden is just serene...

Google "Chaukhandi Stupa" to get all its details (and you will know why budhdhists are not here.) You can walk around it and spend some time. Itis frequented by lovers who use it as a picnic (see pic) and by others who are visiting Sarnath, because they need to do a mandatory vacation trip and post selfies. Near by (walking distance) there are better stupa, and museum that have some history and a small fee. Next to the main gate is a bunkar art gallery where (if you can afford then) you can buy some silk items and also see a weave pattern on the loom (see pics.)

Historical place maintained by ASI. You have to buy tickets online (Rs. 20 per head) to enter into the premise. Keep a QR scanner on your phone and also your Aadhaar no. handy. It is a good place for a leisure walk or spending some time in peace or with your loved ones.

Sightseeing Tour of Sarnath: Just a few kilometres away from Varanasi, is the sleepy village of Singhpur. While Varanasi is a Hindu religious centre, Singhpur’s Sarnath is a Buddhist centre of religion. Visit to this village, which is known for its Buddhist monuments, is one of the best things to do in Varanasi and nearby areas. Sarnath is also referred to a deer park, which is the place where Gautama Buddha first came and taught about the concept of Dharma. This is where Buddhist Sangha received enlightenment. It is located in Singhpur, known as the birthplace of Shreyansanath, the eleventh Tirthankara in Jainism. Sarnath is certainly one of the best places near Varanasi, especially for those who are keen to learn more about history and religion in India. It is where Emperor Ashoka erected a number of stupas and monuments for spreading Buddhism. The crumbling stupas here are a house of relics, manuscripts and fascinating inscriptions that can teach one a lot of Indian history, development of Buddhism and provide alternative theories such as Aliens and how they visited the earth. A tour to Sarnath is usually for half a day and starts early in the morning. During the morning, one can revel in the beauty of Chaukhandi Stupa, which is one of the main stupas built by Ashoka after he converted into Buddhism. Another main attraction is the Dhammek Stupa, made from a blend of stone and bricks. The stupa is 28 meters in diameter and has a height of 43.6 meters. Alternate theorist and historians from other countries suggest that the dome of this stupa indirectly refers to aliens and UFOs. The intricate floral carvings of this stupa are reflective of early Gupta style of architecture.  The other highlight of Sarnath is Mulagandha Kuti Vihar, which is a monument that showcases beautiful frescoes made a Japanese painter. This area is a rich repository of the culture and heritage of Buddhism. To gain more insight into Buddhism and to be enthralled by this history of this place, you can visit Sarnath Museum. It is said to be the home of large number of relics that were excavated from Sarnath. The lion capital of Ashoka Pillar, which features on Indian emblem, is also showcased here.

The Chaukhandi Stupa is an ancient Buddhist monument located in Sarnath, near Varanasi, India. As one of the earliest stupas in the Indian subcontinent, it holds immense historical and religious significance. The stupa, built during the Gupta period around the 5th century CE, stands as a testimony to the rich cultural heritage and architectural prowess of ancient India. The Chaukhandi Stupa's distinct design and unique architectural style make it a captivating sight for history enthusiasts and travelers alike. Standing at a height of about 16.5 meters, the stupa's square base tapers into an octagonal tower, topped with a circular stupa. This transition from a square to an octagon and then a circle is a rare feature among ancient stupas, making it a prominent attraction in the region. Upon visiting the stupa, one cannot help but marvel at the intricate carvings and delicate artwork adorning the structure. The red bricks used in its construction add to its allure, as they have withstood the test of time, showcasing the skill of the ancient artisans who worked on this masterpiece. For Buddhists, the Chaukhandi Stupa holds deep spiritual significance. It marks the location where Lord Buddha met his first five disciples after attaining enlightenment in Bodh Gaya. As a result, the stupa is an essential pilgrimage site for Buddhists from around the world, who visit to pay their respects and find solace in its peaceful ambiance. The surrounding gardens and well-maintained pathways leading to the stupa provide a serene and meditative atmosphere. Visitors often take a leisurely stroll, enjoying the tranquility and reflecting on the teachings of Buddhism. The place exudes a sense of calm and introspection, making it an ideal spot for those seeking a break from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. In recent years, the Indian government, along with various organizations, has taken significant steps to preserve and protect the Chaukhandi Stupa. Restoration efforts have been made to maintain the stupa's structural integrity, ensuring that future generations can continue to appreciate its historical and cultural value. However, there are some challenges that the site faces. Due to its ancient nature, there's a constant need for preservation and maintenance to protect the stupa from natural elements and potential human-related damages. Proper facilities for tourists, including restrooms, informational boards, and seating areas, could also be improved to enhance the overall visitor experience. In conclusion, the Chaukhandi Stupa in Sarnath is an extraordinary monument that holds an essential place in the history of Buddhism and ancient Indian architecture. Its unique design, historical significance, and spiritual aura make it a must-visit destination for travelers and devotees alike. While there are areas that could benefit from further development and care, the stupa remains a captivating and enlightening site, leaving an indelible impression on all those who have the opportunity to explore its timeless splendor.

It is a towering brick stack whose square structure remains encircled by an octagonal edifice. It is a very good spot to sit and talk or rest a little under the trees. The environment is very calm and clean. The entry fees were Rs.20 when I visited keeping in mind to book the ticket online else it is Rs. 25 for offline ticket The only point is that there is no drinking water facility which is kind of basic amenity. This must be provided. And it would be much better if there were more benches around the park.

This Stupa is located in Sarnath in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh. Almost 10kms northeast from Varanasi. A very peaceful place. So quiet and calm. Very clean place as well with greens. Ticket price is 20₹ but the process of getting a ticket is via scanner which sometimes doesn't work well and hence many visitors face issues like us. Then the security guard helped us to go inside by getting a ticket through his mobile but nobody was there to check inside the premises. Overall it's good for tourists who are visiting Sarnath.

The Chaukhandi Stupa is the farthest of all the monuments in Sarnath. If you are coming from Varanasi, it lies first and can be spotted on the left side. The stupa marks the spot where Buddha was reunited with the panchavargiya bhikshus, his five companions who had previously deserted him at Rajgir. Chaukhandi Stupa appears to be in ruins and was originally constructed in the 5th Century AD. The structure which stands atop a terraced rectangular plinth, is capped by an relatively new octagonal Mughal tower. It was built by Akbar in 1589 AD to commemorate his father Humayun’s visit to the site. It is considered a big blessing to have a walk around the Chaukhandi Stupa and complete the Kora. Restoration work is currently on-going at the Chaukhandi Stupa. In the garden adjacent to the stupa, there, usually, are busloads of tourists making prayers in their colourful robes and praying Buddham Sharnam Gacchami to make their journey successful and prayers in a soulful voice. Some of the best views of Chaukhandi Stupa can be had from the Garden of Spiritual Wisdom at the time of sunset, when the light comes from behind and imparts a beautiful hue to the stupa. Some images of the Buddha and other statues were found in excavations at Chaukhandi Stupa are said to be rare artefacts and classic examples of art from the Gupta period.
