Lovely place to visit if you are in Varanasi. Great view from the fort. Beautiful wind when standing on the top. Weapon museum is present inside the fort. Weapons used by Maharaja of Varanasi is displayed in the museum. You will have a great experience here. It's a beautiful place. Especially if you got towards the ghats you can take good photos. Many old historical things are kept as in a museum. It is very poorly maintained even though they charge ₹75 to enter the Fort.

This is again one of the most attractive tourist places in Varanasi. A trip to Varanasi is incomplete without paying a visit to the “Ramnagar Fort”. It’s an archaeological site and holds a great heritage and cultural importance. Well maintained by the respected and honorary government, and tourists hardly face any issue here.

The fort has collection of very old.. British eras Indian cars, Weapons, Guns, Dresses.. I was fully amazed after seeing all these very old precious machines are collected and stored in very good way .. All History students will love this place.. The fort is around 6.5 Km in distance from Dasawamedh ghat.. You can easily hire auto, 4 wheeler for site tour.. I was amazed when I listen that the king lives there long years ago.. Remind us the ruling power of British... Don't forget to go there if you go Varanasi.. Old sword were my favorite... How can a person carry such long and heavy weights.. God knows.. Very good place..

It's an ancient fort which is now turned into a museum. There is an entry fee to enter this place and the tickets can be purchased at the entrance. The museum is well maintained, with all the artifacts labelled with their details. Sadly photography is not allowed inside the museum. As a history geek, I really enjoyed my time here.

80rs per person if you want yo visit the museum and fort from inside. Which you must. Although items in museum isn’t clean enough and seems like this fort needs more funding to manage. We as tourist can contribute some towards it. Views from the back side of fort at evening hours are breathtaking. Parking is available a lil but far and 50rs is the parking cost. You will find the parking on the ghat road

The Fort is nice but the Preservation and presentation of the museum is not that good. Everything is decaying because if the lack of effort of the staff personnel. Although it's a very joyous and good ride back to our History and Heritage of our country. When in Banaras, do visit once.

This place is fantastic example of History.🔥 They charge you entry fee, However, it's worth to pay.😏 Many of the part in fort is Prohibited, you are not able to click photos, visit those place. 🙃 In museum photography is strictly prohibited. However, huge collection of guns, cars, clothes is remarkable. ❤ The way these kings spend money on there weapons is shocking for me. 😅 Everytime the History had much to tell us, therefore, it's necessary to visit this masterpiece of architecture if you are in Varanasi. 🔥👌

Located at the other side of the Ganga Ghats and this place has its own peaceful museum where all the antiques are preserved in a very well manner. The cars, the swords and the Armory which is mostly used in the British Era are present in this museum. Open at 1000 hours and closes at 1700 hours costing 75 rupees per head.

This place is a must visit if you are in Varanasi. The entry fee is 75 rupees per head for the fort and the museum and let me tell you this is absolutely worth it. The view of Ganga and the fort combined is amazing. Inside the museum photography is not allowed but when you are in the fort you can take amazing pictures in the sunlight. There is a small temple inside as well and the ambience is peaceful..

The fort is huge and glorious but not maintained. Compulsary museum charges you have to pay here around 80 rupees. Arrogant Staff & they are not supportive. Drinking water tank is rustic. They have to clean & maintain the fort.

This museum is a part of the fort of Ramnagar, it is not a separate museum, it has very old items kept in it, it is the heritage of the majestic King Kashi Naresh and is a gift of his ancestors. There are old museums to visit and see here.and To get here one has to pay a ticket and a man's ticket costs ₹ 50.

By visiting the fort a mixed experience. Due to pandemic situation the movement is still restricted. But it is gradually getting pace and the museum is being protected for mass visit. Local students are getting scope to visit within a restricted condition. The fort is located on the opposite side of the river Ganges related to the ghats of Banaras. A lassi shop nearby to the fort is brilliant due to its quality. A good number of cannons are placed in the fort.

Very good place to visit with your family. Lots of open spaces, old sculptures and good architecture. You need to purchase tickets for adults only and children do not need any ticket. You can go there by your car as paid car parking is there operated by government.

Ramnagar Fort, situated near the banks of the Ganges River in Varanasi, is a captivating historical landmark. The fort, constructed in the 18th century, showcases impressive architecture and offers a glimpse into the rich cultural heritage of the region. Visitors can explore the museum within the fort, which houses a diverse collection of vintage artifacts, royal carriages, and weaponry. The scenic location by the river adds to the charm, making Ramnagar Fort a must-visit for history enthusiasts and tourists seeking a cultural experience in Varanasi.

The old fort on the banks of the river. Looks beautiful from the outside. However, it is not well maintained. There is a small museum inside the fort but it is also not well maintained. Although the view of the river from the fort is picturesque. Good place to spend some time.

The only thing that was worthwhile for me was the entrance. There was a somewhat pleasant area that also offered a view of the Ganges, but to access it, one had to purchase a ticket for the Museum. I do not find museums very appealing, so I did not bother to spend any money or time on it. I wish they had separated the museum from that lovely area and allowed visitors to enjoy it

The place is awesome with huge area and lovely view on the Ganges. this is a place of keen interest for the people who love to know about Indian history. It has a large museum inside that contains loads and loads of clothes, cars, chariots, palanquins, Guns, swords, knives, maces, clocks, pots, mats & decorative items that were used by the Maharajas and their families in the 18th & 19th century who resided here at that time. Best time to visit is in the afternoon so that you can see the sunset from the fort on the side of the Ganges. It's a must visit place.

A beautiful fort worth going once. There's not much to explore as most parts of the fort are not open for public. But all in all its a beautiful property to visit once. The fort museum will surely give you the feel of the era the fort was in its prime. You can see cars, weapons, clothes and hunted animal all in their original condition. Take few pictures against the cannons placed in the ground. The whole experience can be done in 90min. Add 30 extra for pictures 😋

The museum is known as Saraswati Bhawan. The museum is in what used to be the Durbar Hall or the Public Audience Hall of the fort. It is well known for its unusual and rare collections of American vintage cars, bejeweled sedan chairs, ivory work, medieval costumes, gold and silver brocaded royal Palakis (Palanquins in the shape of a lotus flower). It has elephant saddles carved out of silver, jewellery, costumes made of kimkhwa silk (finest product of the weavers of Varanasi), an impressive armoury hall with swords, old guns from Africa, Burma and Japan. The old armoured matchlocks, ornate hookahs, daggers, portraits of Maharajas, black musical instruments which have turned white because of neglect of maintenance and there is a rare astronomical clock. This clock shows not only the time but also the year, month, week and day, and the astronomical details of the Sun, Moon and other planets. This clock was made in 1852 by the Astronomer at the Court of the Royal Palace of Varanasi. In addition, manuscripts, especially religious writings, are housed in the museum. Many books illustrated in the Mughal miniatures style are also part of the collections. There are five hundred and thirty-five illustrations expressing Islamic ethos, each having a decorative border with ornate floral designs or cartouches.

This place Located inside the Ramnagar fort. I liked that fort and museum too. these items are precious but they are little bit careless about these things. No electricity were available, it was warm environment. Need to renovation. There was 70rs Entry charges per person. As compared to fort it was quite expensive. Fort is really in good condition, still king in this generation lives there.

It’s not worth the price they are charging. Not maintained at all. Museum just has ill kept discarded vehicles, palanquin, guns and other weapons. What can be considered good will be the edifice and the back side of fort with the view river Ganga. Even the main king residence is not open to public which is disheartening.

It is basically more of a museum now. Nothing is maintained properly. All the exhibits are getting spoiled. Inside the building it is so constructed that you feel comfortable. Constructed on the banks of the river Ganges . But visiting this place of historical importance is a must.

Great place to visit in varanasi! The museum has lots of historical artifacts and was very interesting. You also get a great view of the city and Ganges river from a viewing area. Allocate about 2 hours to view the place properly. Unfortunately no cameras are allowed inside the museum but there are older weapons, old cars, and royalty equipment as well.

Ticket for entry to this fort costs 80/- rupees per adults, it won't worth even half of the price, because it's the price for watching some antique things kept inside the fort. It's just similar to a museum.and there is not much things to watch for 80 rupees, and this place is not maintained properly, need to be cleaned. In case of the outer parts, the property is nice with it's architecture and colour. There is no charge to enter to the open areas. The price was very disappointing.

In awe with the beauty of this fort. It's been 2 weeks I've visited this place, but still can't get over it. It stirs your nostalgic self from the core. I'd 100% recommend you all to visit this Fort for once. Rating the Fort 5/5 , considering the aesthetics, detailed design and architecture. The museum is not well maintained, I'd rate the museum 1/5 , they haven't been able to preserve them neatly. Each and every single corner is dusty and filled & covered with cobwebs. They're charging 80 Rupees per head for visiting, but the museum says some other story.

Well the fort isn't quite well maintained I belittle somebody who. Has visited numerous palaces and forts might not find this very enlightening. But sure this does have a few collection of old antiques one can have a look at. So if you are in Kashi and somebody who love history , looking those old artifacts you will love it I saw some really 100 year old cars which i found to be quite thrilling.

The Ramnagar Fort is a fortification in Ramnagar, Varanasi, India. It is located near the Ganga River on its eastern bank, opposite to the Tulsi Ghat. The sandstone structure was built in the Mughal style in 1750 by Kashi Naresh Raja Balwant Singh. At present, the fort is not in a good shape. The current king and the resident of the fort is Anant Narayan Singh, who is also known as the Maharaja of Varanasi even though this royal title has been abolished since 1971. The charges are also expensive where lots of things that were shown before lockdown is closed now and only few ancient & rare collections which is in bad state are shown. Government should take action or try to maintain this place.

Ramnagar fort is one of the main tourist destinations in Varanasi. It is the site of historical importance. Yes, it is true that this building needs a lot of preservation, still you can't miss visiting this place. Different designs of royal palanquins, coins, utensils, armours are displayed here. As you enter , you can see a big courtyard, where two big cannons are installed. If you look minutely, the intricate designs on doors are worth to appreciate art of by gone era. It is the two story fort.

The place has a museum with ancient clothes, vehicles and weapons used in the palace at that time.It has a ghat just beside it whose way is through the palace itself. I feel the fee charged for the visit to the museum is a bit high than what it offers. Also, a lot of maintenance is needed in the fort.

    1. Pathetically maintained fort like its everywhere in the country. Nothing new. Also, the maintainence of the vintage cars & baggis are just not upto the mark. 2. No interest from the so called self declared Maharaja is there to uplift the precarious standard of the each and every thing which is old. The caretakers made to sit are so aged that they are just for the sake of sitting on the chair and know nothing. 3. Also, its high time for the Government also to pull up their socks and overhaul their administrative machinery.

Ramnagar Fort was used to be the residence of 'Kashi Naresh' since about 2001. After then, it was converted into a museum & now it is opened for local public & tourists all around the world. You can know about their rituals, traditions, life styles of the king & his family, attires etc. Inside the temple, there is a temple too. Behind the temple, river ganges is flowing & a bridge now called Ramnagar bridge has been constructed over the river. You will get an opportunity to watch the antique pieces of classic American cars in the museum. The another part that waits for you is the guns & weapons which is so exciting & I can guarantee you that everybody wants to own it once but this can't be possible😃

The Ramnagar Fort is a fortification in Ramnagar, Varanasi, India. It is located near the Ganga River on its eastern bank, opposite to the Tulsi Ghat. The sandstone structure was built in the Mughal style in 1750 by Kashi Naresh Raja Balwant Singh... At present, the fort is not in a good shape. The current king and the resident of the fort is Anant Narayan Singh, who is also known as the Maharaja of Varanasi even though this royal title has been abolished since 1971... The building was constructed with creamy-coloured chunar sandstone. It is built in typical Mughal style of architecture. The fort houses the Veda Vyasa Temple, a museum, and the king's residential complex. There is also a Dakshin Mukhi temple of Hanuman, which faces towards south... The fort has been built on high ground, which is above the flood level. The fort has many carved balconies, open courtyards and pavilions.Only a part of the structure is open for public viewing as the rest of it is the residence of Kashi Naresh and his family. The flag on the fort is raised when the Maharaja is in residence in his palace fort... Within the fort, the palace has two white towers, which are accessed by a flight of steps. At the end of the flight of steps, there is an archway and many courtyards that lead to the white tower. The private residence of the Maharaja is on one side of the tower while the Durbar Hall and reception rooms are on the other side... The museum is known as Saraswati Bhawan located in what used to be the Durbar Hall or the Public Audience Hall of the fort. It is well known for its unusual and rare collections of American vintage cars, bejeweled sedan chairs, ivory work, medieval costumes, gold and silver brocaded royal Palakis (Palanquins in the shape of a lotus flower)... Besides there is an impressive armoury hall with swords, old guns from Africa, Burma and Japan. The old armoured matchlocks, ornate hookahs, daggers, portraits of Maharajas and musical instruments... Also there is a rare astronomical clock made in 1852 by the Astronomer at the Court of the Royal Palace of Varanasi , which shows not only the time but also the year, month, week and day, and the astronomical details of the Sun, Moon and other planets... In addition, manuscripts, especially religious writings, are housed in the museum. Many books illustrated in the Mughal miniatures style are also part of the collections...

Need maintenance and someone (govt or individuals) shud take up the cleaning responsibilities. Not all the places are open for visitors but only few, museum was dark like a horror movie set, covered with thick layer of dust. Photographers may enjoy the large balcony facing river Ganges for some cool evening photo shoots. Over priced tickets for so less to observe, no local guides neither wheel chairs. This could become a very attractive tourist spot if government is keen. One time visit is good enough.

  • 4/5 Garima V. 2 years ago on Google
Scenic views near the ghats. The museum is well maintained. Suggestion: The history about Maharajas should be more explained in detail for better understanding.

  • 4/5 Chandramouli S. 2 years ago on Google
It is a tourist place, where everyone should come atleast once. The ticket price is overrated, but you have to buy that to enter the fort museum and the outer balcony from where you will get a beautiful view of the Ganges river. In museum you'll see old weapons, cloths, ornaments, furniture and cars of the generation of the kings who ruled over the area once. Out in the balcony you'll enjoy some magnificent view.

  • 3/5 Savio J. 2 years ago on Google
It's a beautiful place. Especially if you got towards the ghats you can take good photos. Many old historical things are kept as in a museum. It is very poorly maintained even though they charge ₹75 to enter the Fort.

A must visit photogenic location in varanasi, once you enter from the main gate there is a ticket counter they will ask you to take tickets for museum. Although it's not mandatory but it's a good experience paired with the beauty of the fort. Photos are not allowed within the museum however you can click photos in the other areas.

You can visit this fort in Varanasi if you are finding "things to do". It is not maintained and has foul smell in its museum. They charge 75/person from Indians and 200/person from foreigners. But it has Ganga view which is good but that you can get from various ghats of Banaras. Also, you can't take photos in the museum.

  • 3/5 Piyush M. 1 year ago on Google
The Fort is a good place to visit. It has a museum also where vintage cars, old weapons etc. have been stored and displayed... But the condition of the same is not good. Dust has settled on vintage cars and other things. Photography is banned inside, cctv cameras are also installed, so nobody can have a proof and nobody can complain to the authorities. However, you can click pictures outside the museum space.

  • 5/5 Megha V. 1 year ago on Google

Some very interesting exhibits including vehicles and a good collection of arms. However, everything is covered in a thick layer of dust, and the building itself needs some serious restoration. Photography of exhibits not allowed.

Beautiful place but not at all maintained. They have great artillery collection of pistols and guns, swords and different kind of khajar. But sad to see it's not been taken care by the concern authority. Not lighted properly, cobwebs all around. Museum would be better if information are writen properly. Walls require maintenance and fresh paint. It would get back to it's full Glory.

4 stars are for the maintenance of the fort, not the fort itself. The fort is very beautiful and well-located. It's a must-see for anyone visiting Varanasi. However, it is not well-maintained and there is a lot of scope for improvement.

wonderful place , full of history of weapons and cars This is again one of the most attractive tourist places in Varanasi. A trip to Varanasi is incomplete without paying a visit to the “Ramnagar Fort”. It’s an archaeological site and holds a great heritage and cultural importance. Well maintained by the respected and honorary government, and tourists hardly face any issue here. Many old historical things are kept as in a museum

Great place to visit if you are in Varanasi. The museum inside houses ancient weapons, guns, dress materials, war gears, cars, carriages, which dates back to 18th century. There is an entry ticket of 80 rupees for Indian citizens, which I felt was worth. My favourite was the ancient wall clock which even to this date gives correct timings and other related information with accuracy. It’s located just on the banks of river Ganges which adds to its beauty and mesmerising views. One big problem here is the parking, which is kind of not at all available.

The Ramnagar Fort in Varanasi is a captivating historical landmark that showcases the rich cultural heritage of the city. Steeped in history and architectural splendor, this fort is a must-visit for anyone exploring Varanasi. Upon entering the fort, one is immediately struck by its grandeur and imposing structure. Built in the 18th century by the royal family of Varanasi, the fort stands majestically on the eastern bank of the River Ganges. The combination of Mughal and Indian architectural styles is evident in its design, with ornate carvings and intricate details adorning the walls. Exploring the fort's various sections is a delight for history enthusiasts. The museum within the fort houses a remarkable collection of artifacts, including ancient manuscripts, vintage photographs, weaponry, and royal costumes. Each exhibit provides valuable insights into the royal lifestyle and cultural practices of the bygone era. One of the highlights of the Ramnagar Fort is the Durbar Hall, where the coronation ceremonies of the Maharajas used to take place. The hall is adorned with splendid chandeliers, luxurious carpets, and exquisite murals depicting scenes from Hindu mythology. It offers a glimpse into the opulent lifestyle of the royals and their grand celebrations. The fort is also home to a well-maintained vintage car collection. Classic cars and horse-drawn carriages used by the royal family are on display, providing a fascinating glimpse into the transportation modes of the past. It's a treat for automobile enthusiasts and adds an extra layer of charm to the overall experience. The fort's location on the banks of the River Ganges offers breathtaking views of the river and the cityscape. The serene atmosphere and panoramic vistas make it an ideal spot for photography enthusiasts, especially during sunrise or sunset. While the Ramnagar Fort is undoubtedly a historical gem, it could benefit from improved signage and information boards. Some areas of the fort lack proper descriptions or historical context, which may leave visitors yearning for more information. However, guided tours are available, and it is recommended to opt for one to make the most of the visit. Overall, the Ramnagar Fort in Varanasi is a mesmerizing destination that offers a glimpse into the city's glorious past. Its architectural beauty, rich history, and stunning location make it a worthwhile visit for both history buffs and architecture enthusiasts. With a few improvements in terms of information provision, the fort would undoubtedly earn a perfect rating.

Absolutely disappointed with what they have done to this beautiful place. The Ramnagar Fort is situated at the banks of River Ganga and on the opposite side of Varanasi. The place, once beautiful is now gathering layers and layers of dust. They have turned it into a museum and charging Rs. 80/- per person but the collectibles are in their dying state. Everything is covered in layers of dust. The old Benarosi Sarees are torn at places, minimal lights and absolutely zero maintenance. They had such rich history yet the condition of this fort is really unfortunate.

  • 4/5 Asiif K. 6 months ago on Google
You'll find the fort average if you have visited forts in other states, but the antique gun/weapon collection is superb in the museum. The cars and carts should have been taken good care of too they are getting rusts. The museum ticket is 80 for indians and 200 for foreigners (Photography is not allowed inside the museum)

  • 4/5 Priyanka K. 6 months ago on Google
Ramnagar fort looks beautiful from a distance. The ticket was charged for the museum(check pic upload for the same). Fort is all about the old things kept like guns, palki's, cars etc, old decorative items and clothes. Apart from that nothing much to see there. The only good part is the view from the temple which I loved. 1-1.5 hour visit will be enough. You can find plenty of options to go to fort and vice versa.

  • 1/5 Prabhat V. 5 months ago on Google
Ramnagar Fort, situated in Varanasi, holds immense historical significance and stands as a testament to the city's rich cultural heritage. Built in the 18th century by Maharaja Balwant Singh, the fort served as the ancestral home of the Kashi Naresh, the hereditary ruler of Varanasi. Its architecture showcases a blend of Mughal and Indian styles, reflecting the artistic brilliance of the era. The fort is renowned for its grandeur, housing a remarkable collection of vintage cars, royal artifacts, and ancient manuscripts. It also hosts the world-famous Ram Lila, a dramatic enactment of the life of Lord Rama, during the auspicious festival of Dussehra. This tradition, dating back centuries, attracts thousands of devotees and tourists, adding to the fort's cultural significance. However Toady Ramnagar Fort is marred by poor maintenance, mismanagement, and arrogant staff behavior, greatly diminishing its appeal. The once-grand fort now languishes in neglect, with dusty exhibits and lackluster upkeep. The exorbitant museum ticket prices are unjustifiable given the subpar conditions, leaving visitors feeling overcharged. Adding to the disappointment, the staff's arrogant behavior further sours the experience. Tourists find themselves met with unhelpful and unwelcoming attitudes, tarnishing the fort's historical charm. In its current state, Ramnagar Fort fails to offer a pleasant or enriching visit, highlighting the urgent need for improved management, staff training, and restoration efforts to restore its former grandeur and make it a worthwhile destination in Varanasi.
