Sarnath is the holy place for the Buddhists as Lord Goutam Buddha preached his religion to 4 of his disciples here in Sarnath. There are temples & tall Buddha idols constructed by the King of Thailand. It’s a beautiful place indeed. Sarnath is in the Varanasi district of Uttar Pradesh. A very quiet and calm place, away from the chaotic Varanasi. Very serene place. The temples of various South Asian countries are amazing. We visited Sarnath early morning (around 7 am) and so were able to watch the morning prayers. They are too good. One can spend quite some time just sitting and meditating in the temples. All the temple premises are ultra-clean and very well maintained.

Visiting the Sarnath Buddhist Temple was an incredible experience. From the moment we entered, we felt a sense of calm and tranquility that we had not experienced before. The temple is beautifully designed, with intricate carvings and stunning architecture that truly captures the essence of Buddhist tradition. The prayer halls are spacious and filled with natural light, providing the perfect environment for meditation and introspection. The chanting of the monks, the flickering candles, and the scent of incense all created an atmosphere that was both serene and inspiring. Overall, I highly recommend a visit to the Sarnath Buddhist Temple. It is a place where you can find peace and inner stillness, and the beauty of the temple itself is a testament to the rich cultural heritage of Buddhism.

Very peaceful place away from the noise of the city. A complete day is required in order to visit the temple and surrounding historical places. Don't forget to visit the beautiful mini zoo at the backyard of the temple. Kids will be delighted.

We went in the last week of December 2019, just before the lockdown. I saw a great Buddhist temple. Great atmosphere and great location. A bit far from the main varanasi town, one has to go by hiring an auto/taxi. The place has great historical and religious significance and is also beautiful. Sarnath being one of the most important places of Buddhism radiated a certain serenity. Excellently maintained by ASI, Sarnath has all the potential to turn into a global tourist hotspot. History of Sarnath will must attract to all,Sarnath is that place where Gautam Buddha start teaching .Many stumps were built here which makes Sarnath more beautiful. If you want to go here then I will welcome you because this city is very neat & clean ,and mind will forget all the stress and your mind will be relieved. So when you come to Varanasi please visit Sarnath. Thank you. 🙂

Temple is very well maintained. You can get a glance of Buddha life and specially four main stages of his life. Besides the main temple there is another temple where sculpture of Buddha giving sermon to the five disciples is depicted in a very good way. Rest the campus is very big to take a stroll and let your mind feel and find inner peace.

The Buddhists temple is such a spritual place where you'll get the absolute peace. The calmness is so smoothing. That vibe is so rare here. It was such a wonderful time. We have spent approximately 2-2.30 hours. A great place. Must visit.

It is one of the holiest sites for Buddhists and Hinduism pilgrimage but is open to everyone. It is well connected to public transportation. It has major four sections including temples, parks, and monuments. It can be improved with an audio guide system, a light-telling story system, and medication or yoga classes. The place is clean and well managed but still needs improvement. Beware of scammers and taxi drivers.

Museum closed on Friday... Construction going on nearby ( Oct-Nov 2023). Nice place to visit once if you can beat traffic. There would be people desperately asking you to hire them as a no use guide. Nearby food stalls are good.. Some sovereigns can also be purchased from them.

Thoroughly impressed with this place!! The arrangements and facilities provided are top-notch. It's believed Lord Buddha gave his first sermon and teachings at this place. It has an extremely well maintained garden and all major facilities like drinking water, washrooms etc. are provided. There is a tall statue of Lord Buddha here and that's the major attraction. A must visit place if you're in Varanasi.

I decided to explore this temple around noon on a sunny Saturday, and to my delight, it wasn't packed with crowds. The best part? There's no entry fee, although you can always make a generous donation to support the temple. As I stepped inside, the tranquil atmosphere swept me into the enchanting world of Buddhist culture. The temple's interior is a visual feast - mesmerizing wall paintings, meticulously preserved sculptures, and a beautifully maintained building make it a haven for art and history enthusiasts. You can truly sense the dedication of the temple's caretakers in preserving this gem. Plus, it's an Instagram-worthy paradise, where you can capture the essence of Buddhist culture in stunning photographs. But here's the real surprise: hidden behind the temple, there's a zoo. Yes, a zoo! You can get up close and personal with crocodiles, a myriad of bird species, and even adorable deer. It's not just a place for grown-ups; I'm convinced that kids will have a blast here too. In a nutshell, I wholeheartedly recommend paying this temple a visit when you're in Varanasi. It's an immersive experience that provides a glimpse into the heart of Buddhist culture, and it's a fun day out for everyone, whether you're an art lover, history buff, or just seeking an adventure.

The surroundings of Sarnath Buddhist Temple are very clear. There was no garbage. The only drawback was that there was no bathroom inside the place. Be sure to take a guide with you when you go. It will be very interesting to hear the story of this temple.

Amazing experience.. it is famous as the site where bhagwan Gautam buddh taught first time the dharma.. it is also the place where the original Sangha was formed. Sarnath is only 10 km away from varanasi city center. The monument at sarnath are a worth a visit. Sarnath remained a center of great learning for nearly 1700 years. It's a place of pilgrimage and a monastery for monks and scholars. Museum is also worth visiting.

Very peaceful and amazing place . Must meditate here. The unaware and uneducated public visiting here makes noises and sounds and cause problem for the ones who wants to meditate and sit peacefully. Clearly mentioned in the temple that playing and making noise is not allowed. The architecture is great. It is worth visiting.

Beautiful holy place near varanasi. Very big Buddha murti is there. Fully peaceful place which is far away from the city. Everyone must take a guide for more information about this place Local street food is also available outside the temple. An exhibition room is there near the temple where anyone can buy valuable things at cheap rates.

It is one of the best places to visit if you are in Varanasi. What an incredible experience I had here, there is a golden statue of budhdha inside the main temple. As it is related to Buddhism, it us open to all irrespective to region, cast and creed. It’s huge in its expanse and a great place to spend some me peaceful time in alone or with family/friends. Well qualified guides are also available just outside the premises. A government run bunkar (handloom) shop is also there 100 metres from this temple where you can shop for authentic Banarasi silk sarees and suit pieces.

Sarnath is one of the four most important Buddhist pilgrimage destinations in the world. It has special significance because it's the place where the Buddha gave his first sermon. From main varanasi the place is quite far however you can get ola, toto, auto, etc. Parking is also available and the entry fee for the museum and the the temple is 25. It would be suggested if you can take one guide with you so that one can understand the importance of the place. Camera or phone is not allowed in the museum. It would take atleast 2hours to complete the tour as the area is quite huge. Places to cover are temple, stupa and the museum. Peaceful place to be in...

A great place with great historical importance. A must visit if you are in varanasi. Also you can take pictures in the temple, but it is advised to not face your back to the idol inside the temple. The bodhi tree was also very serene and the place had calm vibes all over.

This is the place where Lord Budha gave his first speech to his 5 students. It's a religious and archaeological site. There is one mini zoo inside the site. For small kids it's a good entertainment and for elders it's a good place for religious activities. Lots of temples are situated inside the campus, some of them dating 2000 BC. It's a good tourist spot. If you're visiting varanasi, you must visit Sarnath. It will take a full day to explore each and everything. Zoo closing time is 6 PM so plan accordingly.

An amazing tourist place. Peaceful and quiet. Do visit in winter. Summers are too hot to bear. You can hire a guide if you wish but better not to, they will only tell you partial stories that too wrong sometimes.
