Dhamek Stupa (also spelled Dhamekh and Dhamekha) is a massive stupa located at the archaeological site of Sarnath in the state of Uttar Pradesh, India. Dhamek Stupa marks the precise location where the Buddha preached his first discourse to his first five disciples (Kaundinya, Assaji, Bhaddiya, Vappa and Mahanama), and where all five eventually became fully liberated.Dhamek Stupa is located 180 metres (590 feet) to the east of Dharmarajika Stupa at the archaeological site of Sarnath. Sarnath is located 12 kilometres (7.5 miles) to the northeast of Varanasi, in Uttar Pradesh, India.

Dedicated to Lord Vishnu, the Hindu temple, built by Beni Madhur Rao Scindia, a Maratha chieftain, was demolished when the emperor Aurangzeb had captured Banaras and razed the temple. Aurangzeb then built a mosque over the ruins of the temple in 1669 and named it as Alamagir Mosque in the name of his own honorific title "Alamgir", which he had adopted after becoming the emperor of the Mughal empire.Non-Muslims are not allowed to enter the mosque. One of the main attractions of Sarnath is the 80 ft high statue of Buddha. It is India’s tallest standing statue of Lord Buddha. This 80-ft Buddha statue made from sandstone is a result of joint efforts between India and Thailand. The standing statue of Lord Buddha is built inside the premises of Thai Buddha Vihar just next to the Buddha temple. We visited during misty morning and as the day went on the mist started clearing off and we could see the tall statue of Lord Buddha.

For me the most beautiful place in Sarnath. If you are traveling here, definitely make a stop here. Entry is free. Unfortunately, the employees beg on the premises. A bit of a shame for such a beautiful place.

Qlamgir Masjid also known as Aurangzeb's Mosque is not to be missed, just above the panchganga ghat. It's a blend of Islamic and Hindu architecture. Two of it's minarets are broken..but still holds it's mesmerizing beauty.

Far from the crowded city, much more peace to offer than other parts of the city. The statue is very tall and also has a great architecture. With greenery all around it, it's definitely a must visit place when you are at Sarnath or Varanasi. Do visit if you want some peaceful moments in your rushed life.

Lord Buddha understood the Truth or spiritually enlightened in Bodh Gaya. Then he visited Sarnath. He first taught the Dharma at the Deer Park in Sarnath. And the Buddhist Sangha came into existence at Sarnath. This place became one of the important centre of pilgrimage. The most celebrated capital Sarnath was constructed by Emperor Asoka circa 250 BC. It is the place where Buddha delivered a religious address to an assembled group of people his first sermon after he attained enlightenment. Sarnath is located about 10 kms north-east of Benaras in Uttar Pradesh. He shared the four Noble Truths- They are the truth of suffering, the truth of the cause of suffering, the truth of the end of suffering, and the truth of the path that leads to the end of suffering. The capital is now on display at the Sarnath Museum. It is one of the main tourist as well as spiritual attractions in Uttar Pradesh. There is an Archaeological Museum inside the area. It is a calm quiet and one of the best peaceful meditation place in India. We may take help from local guide for in depth knowledge about the area. This is a clean, well maintained, beautiful lawns, gardens and architecture.

During my visit to Kashi(Varanasi) visited this places because the place is 10-13 km from there and it was a great experience. Because Sarnath is the place where Gautama Buddha taught his first sermon. And the buddha statue there is popular among tourist because the statue is tall and surrounded with greenery also near to that only the sarnath museum is there and the stupa so one can enjoy his travel by visiting the place. So overall the good experience and one can enjoy his or her travel there in peace.

Before Gautama (the Buddha-to-be) attained enlightenment, he gave up his austere penances and his friends, the Pañcavaggiya monks.[5] Seven weeks after his enlightenment under the Bodhi tree in Bodh Gaya, Buddha left Uruvela and travelled to Isipatana to rejoin them because, using his spiritual powers, he had seen that his five former companions would be able to understand Dharma quickly. While travelling to Sarnath, Gautama Buddha had no money to pay the ferryman to cross Sarnath is a place located 10 kilometres north-east of Varanasi near the confluence of the Ganges and the Varuna rivers in Uttar Pradesh, India. The Deer Park in Sarnath is where Gautama Buddha first taught the Dharma, and where the Buddhist Sangha came into existence through the enlightenment of Kondanna (Sanskrit: Kauṇḍinya).

The Buddha statue in Sarnath is truly a remarkable sight to behold. Located in the small town of Sarnath, just a short distance from the ancient city of Varanasi, this statue holds great significance for both Buddhists and visitors from all over the world. As you approach the statue, you can't help but feel a sense of peace and tranquility envelop you. The statue stands tall at a height of 80 feet, making it one of the tallest Buddha statues in India. Its serene expression and graceful posture exude a sense of calmness and wisdom. What makes this statue even more special is its location. Sarnath is considered to be the place where Buddha gave his first sermon after attaining enlightenment. This makes the statue a symbol of the start of Buddhism and a pilgrimage site for many Buddhists. The craftsmanship of the statue is also worth mentioning. The intricate details and fine carvings on the statue are a testament to the skill and dedication of the artists who created it. The statue is made of sandstone and its smooth surface gives it a timeless and ethereal quality. Visitors can also take a tour of the museum located near the statue, which showcases various artifacts and relics related to Buddhism and the life of Buddha. This adds to the overall experience and gives visitors a better understanding of the rich history and culture of Sarnath. One of the highlights of visiting this statue is the evening aarti (ritual) that takes place. The statue is beautifully lit up and the atmosphere is filled with the sound of chanting and the aroma of incense. It is a truly magical experience that leaves a lasting impression on all those who witness it. In conclusion, the Buddha statue in Sarnath is a must-visit for anyone traveling to Varanasi or seeking a spiritual experience. Its grandeur, historical significance, and serene beauty make it a true masterpiece and a symbol of peace and enlightenment. Whether you are a Buddhist or not, this statue is sure to leave you in awe and inspire you to seek inner peace and enlightenment.

This is very calm and peaceful place. You can offer prayer to Gautam buddha. His standing statue is best thing to see and capture and bow down in a day. Sculpture is very nice and makes you feel peace. This place is just 30 mins far from Varanasi and one of the main attractions in UP. There are few other holy places of Buddhism and one archeological museum just in the range of 100 sq metre. There is small lake and garden. Everywhere you will find Buddha statues and place for mediations. One big Peepal(in hindi) tree, here you can sit and feel the calmness. Visit this place with Family and/or group of friends. Try to reach early in the morning as there many other places to be covered

The place provides a very peaceful environment plus there are lot of shady trees so if you're even visiting in mid-summer, you don't have to worry much about scorching heat. And they also have water coolers. The place is hardly 10 minutes away from the museum, once you're done here, you can head there.

(Translated by Google) In sort There was no news #Aurangzeb_alamgir with the fact that the head of the Vajir made by me is in the cloud of rain on the land of Benares Wazir gave orders to his Sudamo to present the most beautiful girl in my state. Finding that it is Shakuntala Devi, the daughter of Lalaram, a Pandit from Banaras. The wazir said to the Pandit that it is in salutations, leave the daughter in a doli from her house or else I will pick up the daughter from home. Pandit was shocked and returned home and narrated the whole incident to the daughter. The daughter said take a month's leave from Abba Wazir. Wazir gave a month's extension. Shakuntala Devi went and narrated the entire sentence to Mohiuddin Aurangzeb Alamgir. Do not grief after returning from your Baba, I am sure that on the emperor whose prophet brought mercy to the world, how can a slave of that prophet see injustice done to daughters. When a month's time is over, happiness is being celebrated in Wazir's palace, there is a feeling of grief in Pandit Lala Ram's house. As soon as Shakuntala Devi reaches the palace in Doli, then Mohiuddin Aurangzeb Alamgir appears in the guise of Fakir. Seeing Wazir's oppression with his own eyes called him a master of punishment. The wazir was ripped like this by tying his hands with an elephant and tying his feet with another. Farumaya Aurangzeb, daughter, since you brought a complaint to me, I have not drank even a sip of water since I have a lot of oppression and I do not like it. This sentence is very similar, but I have written it in short. Inshallah, if I get a chance, I will write the whole. Whose example will not be able to give even the world. He likes justice, the emperor Mohiddin Aurangzeb Alamgir. This is my most favorite place because there is so much beauty here, it is a big statue of Buddha ji. If we talk a little about its history : The statue was conceived in 1970 when the society was formed with founder members of the joint Indo-Thai Project deciding to build a standing statue near the place of Lord Buddhas first sermon. Due to stone work and financial difficulties, work stopped for 3 years and recommenced in 2006. They have some pictures for statue of Buddha .

A very peaceful and divine place. The statue of Lord Buddha is beautiful and huge. It is around 80 feet in height so making it the largest Lord Buddha statue in the India. It was built after the demolition of the Bamiyan Buddha Statue by the Talibans. According to the guide, Lord Buddha is in walking posture in this statue. A must place to visit in Sarnath.

A huge standing Buddha statue is on the left side of the Thai temple and towers over 80 foot tall, It is said to be the tallest statue of Lord Buddha in India. The construction of which is said to have taken more than a decade. There are running fountains with blooming lotus flowers before approaching the statue. Besides this imposing statue, the temple also houses three other effigies of Lord Buddha in various postures that are placed beneath a tree. Just before the entrance of the main temple, there are images of laughing Buddha along with an enactment of Lord Buddha preaching his apostles. Another statue of Lord Buddha is in Bhumisparsha mudra where he is touching the earth to summon the mortal spirits can be seen in the temple. Giving an alluring touch to the entire complex of this popular Buddhist The idea of the statue was the brainchild of Rasmi Sashan, a Buddhist monk from India and Prakash Samadhiguna. They had thought of building such a statue almost 27 years back. Work started in 1997, only to be stopped after 3 years. The construction work again resumed in November 2006. The statue was finally completed and unveiled in March 2011. The estimated cost of building the statue was around two lakh fifty thousand Pounds and the money was donated by Buddhist devotees and other people all around the world.
