This ghat is named after the temple of 64 goddesses that stands above it, and was shelter to the great Sanskrit scholar, Madhusudana Sarsvati (1540-1623). The temple was renovated by the king of Udaipur (Rajasthan) in 1670.

The Chausath Yogini Temple is accessible through steep steps. 60 of the 64 yoginis, or assistance goddesses, are idolised in the shrine. The goddess Kali is honoured in this temple. The ghat is about 950 metres from Kashi Vishwanath Temple and 5 kilometres from Varanasi Railway Station. Omkara Das Kashi Ashram is located nearby the ghat, and this ghat serves as a main pilgrimage site for bathing. On the new moon day of the Hindu month of Chaitra, an auspicious day when people take a refreshing dip in the Ganga (mostly Hindus visit the temple), Lahiri Mahasya's family home is located just 100 metres into the lanes. He served as Swami Yogananda's paramguru and Babaji's levitating disciple.

Really kind and helpful staff, great view, hot shower and clean rooms. The location is perfect, easy to find and very close to city main places. You can ask for keeping luggages if leaving in the evening. Great rooftop, where you can take your breakfast 😀

The Chausath Yogini Temple is accessible through this Ghat; hence it is called Chousatti Ghat. steep steps. 60 of the 64 yoginis are idolised in this shrine. It honours goddess Kali. Omkara Das Kashi Ashram is located close to ghat. Choushati Ghat means "the ghat of 64 steps" referring to the number of steps that lead down to the river. The place is not well kept. It is less crowded. It is a popular spot for boat rides, but it can be a hassle to bargain with them.

There are approx 84 ghats and in Banaras but this is one of the most famous ones. So if you are visiting this place to see the rituals and culture of a Banarasi then it's a place to be. But if you want to sit in a ghat with less crowd then try other ghats in the stretch.

Amongst those numerous ghats in Varanasi, Chausathi Gath is a popular sacred site to visit. Chausathi derives from the term Chausath which means sixty-four. The reason behind the name is the temple, located near this popular tourist site in Varanasi, which is dedicated to 64 Hindu deities. Few ascending steps from Chausathi Ghat lead to this temple. Devotees take a holy dip in the water from this ghat.  Whether or not you are a religious person, a visit to this famous tourist attraction in Varanasi is a must mainly because of its serene ambiance. The origin of the development of this Ghat is factually dilemmatic as some of the scholars suggest, the ghat was first built by Digpatiya, The ruler of Bengal in 18th century, while others suggest it was built by Pratapaditya another king of Bengal in 16th century. Chausathhi Ghat, as the name suggests, means 64. The temple built over the steps of the ghat, enshrines 64 statues of Yoginis who are the lady mates of goddess Kali. "Traditions Well Kept" Traditionally this ghat represents the 64 yoginis (female mystics) of Hindu mythology who emerged from the primary goddess. The mystifying symbolic depiction of feminine power and its deep-rooted association with India's spiritual traditions that is lingering at the Chausatti Ghat is worth a study. This Ghat, on the banks of Ganges, has a temple dedicated to the yoginis. Renovated in the 17th Century, this is a major site of pilgrimage and many take a ritualistic dip in Ganga from here. With ceremonial ecstasy of colors, Holi, the color festival of India is celebrated here enthusiastically.

It is not very crowded, peaceful and beautiful. Best for boating and spending time with your friends and family. Chausatthi Mata Mandir is very close to this ghat. Maa Skand Mata Mandir is also nearby.

Chousatti Ghat is one of the famous ghat of banaras. We were here because we got a hotel near by to this ghat which costed around 1000 rupees per night for one room. Ashwemedh ghat and manikarnika ghats are at walking distance from this ghat.

Varanasi.. The place of God people who are in the last stages of their life believe that that if they die in Varanasi they will reach load shiva and swargalok as per Hindu sastra.. One of those 80 ghats chousatti ghat is also full of beauty of river Ganga.. Good old sculpture.. Boat surfing.. Love this place.. In one word I love Varanasi.. You can easily reach from Varanasi Railway Station.. By auto or toto but in my suggestion reach Dasawamedh ghat then you hire a boat and tell them to make complete visit of all ghat although it's not possible to visit 80 ghats at a time and to describe the story of all ghat they ( boat driver) will give you all details and describe the story.. I with my family enjoyed our Varanasi Tour..
