I recently stayed at an Airbnb in Varanasi and wanted to share my experience. While the location was good, I had some issues with the accommodations. While I understand that laundry can be difficult in India and toilets may not be as clean as one is used to, I found that the host was not very accommodating. I was given only one towel per person and two rolls of toilet paper for a four-day stay, and when I asked for additional supplies, the host was not very receptive. Additionally, I found the host's attitude towards guests to be less than welcoming. While I understand that hosts may have different personalities, I was disappointed that my experience did not match the positive reviews I had read on Airbnb. I would recommend looking at both Airbnb and Google reviews before booking a stay. Overall, I hope that future travelers to Varanasi have a great experience, and I wanted to share my experience to help others avoid any potential issues during their stay.

After booking two rooms two months earlier, I reached Varanasi on 29th November with my family and eighty two year old sick mother in law, and on reaching the spot as I dialled the management to know its correct location, I was straightaway informed that my booking was cancelled without any prior intimation. Such is its management.

Not recommended at all. It has a better location, but services of the management is not good, the staff are mostly harsh, the rooms are comparatively smaller, where amenities are less. Washroom is not clean, especially lavatory.

The room was dirty, the water was cold and it is in winter. The worst of the everything was the unpolite receptionist who shouts and doesn't answer and doesn't help because he is sleeping; eating chocolate or the place is empty He should make a course of good manners if he goes on working with tourism. I don't recommend this place!!!!

Most of the rooms are without window and no lighting. Before booking please ensure that the rooms are good. Ask if it has attached balcony. Probably only 2 rooms have attached balcony. Owner is very arrogant if you question about non ventilated rooms. Despite asking the owner to clean the room, it wasn't done. We were here for 6 nights without cleaning bathroom and room. There is a property next to this one namely Maya Inn. This seems to be better option. Much cleaner than marigold. Here too you need to ask for room with balcony. Only advantage of this property is proximity to Dashaswamedh ghat.

Varanasi ka sabse bekar guest house. No one will pickup ur phone. I have booked so many hotels and guest house but this type of attitude and carelessness I have not seen in my life. Third class property and ther owner.

Arrogant staff. Because of being popular now They've stopped accepting bookings from any channel. Post booking when you call, they would ask you to directly transfer the amount. When Denyed to pay cash they've cancelled the booking on arrival and stated that we don't hold rooms without Payment

I can’t thank you Sonu enough for making my stay in Varanasi special. The guest house is located literally 3 mins walk from the main Dashashwameth Ghat. Rooms are basic and clean. Sonu has been in the business for many years and is local from the city. He took me to several local places and we hanged out a lot learning about the culture and traditions of Varanasi beyond the must do sightseeings. He’s reliable and trustful. I would go back to his guest house next time and recommend it to everyone. He’a also a certified tour guide and his family own boats so everything can be arranged by him in a professional way.

Good location, clean and comfortable rooms in a decent price. Sonu is amazing, very helpful and enthusiastic about Varanasi

Actually hotel is 2star quality,nearby road very narrow and not good for senior citizen,who like to walk then go for it but the room is clean.and the owner is approximately helpful

I had a wonderful stay at Marigold, to the point that it felt like home Sonu is kind, friendly and very attentive. He’s always there for you in case you need anything. He loves talking with guests, helping and guiding them through Varanassi. My room was the cozy one, with bathroom inside on the second floor, which has plants outside the room. Perfect for one person. I had everything I needed to make my stay really enjoyable If you’re a yogi, you can ask Sonu to use the small shala on the rooftop. Thank you Sonu and see you soon!

This is my second time staying at Marigold. My first time was 7 years ago and the owner Sonu remembered me!!! He is very passionate about his job and loves hosting guests. Super helpful and supportive. I really enjoyed the morning boat ride with him. He is so knowledgeable about varanasi and tells interesting stories. I will definitely come back to Marigold again.

Sonu is just one of the best host I've ever met, friendly, open-minded, fun and intelligent! The rooms are clean and comfortable, the mattresses are new, the AC is excellent for summer time. If you don't know what to do in Varanasi or you are a bit confused about your plans, Sonu will suggest you many things to do and see, and you can also do a boat ride on the wonderful Ganga with him. I really suggest every foreigners to come in Merigold guesthouse, you'll be happy there!

The best guest house in Varanasi! Located near Ganga but super quiet! Room is very comfortable and clean. Also stuff are friendly, especially Owner Sonu is a polite and nice person. The cost is affordable as well. Highly recommend! Recommended for solo travelers. I was very relieved! I was unable to walk the ghats during the rainy season due to the high water level in the Ganga, so I will definitely come again in the dry season!

Sonu who is the owner of this hotel is amazing,honest and professional person I was very much ill when I reached hotel he took me all the way himself to hospital and helped me all the way it was great to see such a hospitality .

Dasashwamedha Ghat is at walkable distance. Kasi Viswanath Temple, Visalakshi Temple and Annapoorani Temple are at walking distance. Room is simple and very neat.

stayed on 31st jan 2022-1st feb 2022, location is very good .......you can easily access to dasaswamedh ghat and kashi viswanath temple...... and Mr.Sonu is very much humble or shows friendly gesture towards his guest. Room/bathroom are clean.....they have a good roof top view.

I recommend this place if you're on a small budget but looking for something private, clean and comfortable. The place is very well located close to the ghatts and the main street of shops and cafés. It's quiet, the rooms are small but clean with a comfortable mattress. We had the room with balcony (it's narrow but it was just big enough for the 2 of us to do yoga) it's nice to have an outside space and we also had the AC which works very well. Sonu is very nice and helpful and will guide and help you for everything you need.

I went with my mother for a 4 days' stay. The owner (Sonu ji) was very polite and helpful with everything. Since we were visiting the place for the first time, he guided us through the routes, boat rides, etc. The experience of Varanasi became better because of the stay. Also, the homestay is literally very homely. I would not only stay there when I'd visit Varanasi again but also recommend my friends and family to stay there. Most importantly, it is just 1 minute walking from Dashashwamedh Ghaat and merely 2 minutes from Godoliwa market. The room and rest of the premise were clean, the bathroom was great; altogether, the experience was very nice and pleasing. <3 :)

The best guesthouse in owner in Varanasi! Located near Ganga and ghats. Just 3 minutes walking! I lived here during 20 days. And of course I’ll come back! HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!!

Marigold Guest House is an excellent choice for budget accommodation in Varanasi. The modest rooms were well-kept and clean, and the bathrooms were super clean! The location is sensational, right near the main ghats, but far enough to feel away from the crowds. Incredible restaurants are merely 1-minute walk away and the river view from the roof is lovely. But without a doubt, the best feature of this guest house is the host, Sonu. A down-to-earth and honest man, he was quick and clear with communication right from our first enquiry. We got lost in the alleyways (google maps is a bit unreliable in that area), but he gave clear directions to help us find the property. He gave us invaluable advice on the ghats, the area and where to find decent food and shops. He was also able to help us arrange boat tours, ceremony viewing seats and transport to the airport. In future I will get him to arrange a transfer from the station to the guest house as well, his transport option was excellent. I could tell he wants to give his guests a great experience and wants to give honest business to other local businesses. There's no funny nonsense with this guest house, it's all legit. And finally, a highlight of our time in Varanasi was the morning boat ride with Sonu. He really is a great tour host. His English is excellent and his lifetime experience and passion for Varanasi shines through. The information was interesting and well explained, and all questions were answered honestly and openly. This morning boat tour is HIGHLY recommended! We had some great conversations with Sonu and as a result, left with a deeper appreciation of Varanasi. Now THAT is a host!
