An amazing experience worth investing!! We had travelled to Varanasi in September beginning on a short visit. Not satisfied with the usual temple trail, we wanted to try out something different and called up Anupam. I must say, this was probably the best decision I had taken in a long time. We stayed in Benares for three days and did all three walks : South walk combined with food and boat tour , next day North walk combined with boat tour. I can't emphasize how great an experience we had with Anupam and Saurabh. Anupam took us through the narrow lanes and introduced us to the local way of living. Be it the idyllic pan shop, the saree shopping, an amazing "thandai" shop, local cuisine or a hidden-old world- temple. Each destination seemed like an adventure in itself and experiences I would carry with myself for a long time. Saurabh is a local celebrity, and we went to Tulsi's Ashram, an Akhara and had sumptuous breakfast. We also had long conversations with both of them on culture, religion, society and ended up buying books recommended. They often say that you carry and leave a piece of your heart to the places you travel. With Robaroo walks I was able to experience Benares in its truly authentic and raw form . Listening to stories from past and present while at the same time, experiencing the inner city with all the sensory experiences available was a joy and delight. I would highly highly recommend investing in these experiences. I am planning to do city hopping to try out Roobaroo walks in other cities too. :)

Kashi, City of Light, calls back its own Varanasi – its first name Kashi, also called Banaras: we had been there three times already. After each time, there still was a pull to return. What WAS this pull? To find out, we read Richard Lannoy’s Benares: A World Within a World and Diana Eck’s Banaras: City of Light. While these seemed to explain what we had felt in Banaras; we wanted to KNOW. We had been very pleased with an afternoon walking tour we had done with Roobaroo Walks in 2017. So I emailed Roobaroo, mentioned the books, and said we wanted to return for a few weeks or so, for a guided deep experience of Banaras. Is this something Roobaroo could do? Well, Roobaroo had the books, staff had read them and they had found even the obscure Kashi-light-related places! So we hired Roobaroo to guide us on a custom visit to about fifty places that interested us. We arrived in Banaras on January 15, 2023. We started exploring Kashi with Roobaroo’s Anupam Singh, a Banaras native, the next day. From Adi Keshava, where Vishnu first stepped on Kashi ground; to morning aarti at Assi Ghat; Anupam opened our hearts and minds to Kashi and the sources of its presence and power over 13 days of our 3-week stay – leaving time for us to absorb and explore on our own. Anupam took us places we had not known about – places that more deeply informed our Kashi experience. Due to Anupam’s deep love and knowledge of Banaras and its riches – and his engaging storytelling – our experience exceeded any expectations we may have had. So if you want to open your whole being to the essence of Banaras – more than the standard tours provide – contact Roobaroo.

Even after spending couple of days I won't have found peace amidst the chaotic city had I not been ROOBAROOed with Aanchal and Aayush! I took the north walk and sunset boat tour with Aayush and south walk with Aanchal .The north walk covered the bylanes, the ghats, lifestyle of localites and much more. The south walk provides one with deep insights of ancient Varanasi, legends associated with this city of Shiva and takes you to temples, handlooms, akhara. Both Aanchal and Aayush are very knowledgeable and know the city in and out. Also, they are extremely welcoming and friendly. Highly recommend the walking tours by Roobaroo Walks!

Simply one of my favorite memories from our last trip in India. The kind of secret you want to keep to yourself so it doesn’t become mainstream and you can hold on to it knowing you had a special experience that only a happy few share... But that would be selfish; first for the wonderful team of whip smart and cultured individuals who are doing it out of passion and don’t mind spending a few extra hours engaging in a conversation with you (and checking on you a few years later amid the crisis) and for the equally genuine travelers who really want to get to know India more personally. These conversations and experiences (including an impromptu blessing in a temple for my 30th birthday) will always be cherished...until next time friends!

We got the chance to experience the food walk with Samir and we were super happy about it. He was totally accommodating, understood our needs with a big smile on his face. Loved the experience and all the memories we took back with us. Thanks for everything.

I took 2 tours with Roobaroo this week. 👉 Food Walk: I came hungry and left absolutely satiated! Discover several hidden treasures of unique foods in the alleyways of the Old City of Varanasi. Photography Tour: experience the morning aarti at Asi Ghat and a nearby old Vishnu temple with much history. The cultural and historic information on the Photo Tour was in much greater depth than the food tour, but if you want to have a safe eating experience, the food tour is very worthwhile. However, there really wasn't any photography instruction aside from telling me where to stand to take pictures during the arti. The leader also was late for one start, and late finishing the other tour. This might be the norm in India!

We took a street food tour with Roobaroo and it was amazing! By the end we were absolutely stuffed. Come on a very empty stomach. Coming from the west we’re always a little extra cautious about what we eat so as not to pick up a stomach bug, but this was not something we needed to be concerned about on this tour - we came through just fine. Our guide Anupam was able to organize the tour for us even though it was very last minute! He took good care of us, and was from Varanasi so knew the area very well. He was knowledgeable and friendly, engaging and fun to hang out with. All in all a great way to spend an evening in the city.

We had a wonderful trip to Sarnath with Anupam. The journey began in utter comfort with all of ( me and my 3 elderly friends) us pouring in our Banaras based questions to Anupam . Once we reached Sarnath we were given details of its past and present recovery . We spent a v relaxed few hours exploring the place. After getting refreshes with coconut water we moved on to the museum where we stood mesmerised. The size of the national emblem was so huge and unexpected.

This is my second experience with Roobaroo walks and totally matched up to my expectations. Anupam, our guide, really went to all lengths for us to make us get a vibe and feel of the city of Benaras. The morning boat ride was an experience with a live flutist on board and the food tour in the northern ghats was scrumptious and blissful. Totally recommend this one to all travellers.

Highly recommend!! I found the story-tellers very knowledgeable, well researched, and provide detailed information. They also are able to connect the traveler to the city. I took the sunrise boat tour, Sarnath tour, and walk through city with boat ride. Very much appreciate Anupam for sharing such rich history of Varanasi and Sarnath.

Our morning tour of Banaras with Robaroo was very exciting and comforting. Our story teller Saurabh was very interactive and knowledgeable not just about Banaras but our history as well. Very comfortably he guided us thru streets of Banaras to discover the hidden wonders and shared numerous stories about legends

We heard about Robaroo Walk just as we entered the city and booked a photography walk with Anupam. It went so well that we ended up booking 4 more walks. And each experience felt better than the previous one. Anupam was a fantastic host. He made sure to educate us about the rich history, heritage, and culture of Varanasi while constantly feeding us the most delicious sweets and chaats the city had to offer even when we weren't on the food walk. Walking around with Anupam I felt like I had know both, him and the city, since forever. His stories, knowledge, and warmth made our experience far better than we had ever imagined. Would recommend Robaroo walks to anyone who is visiting Varanasi so they can enjoy every essence of the city the way we did.

Travel is an experience, and when you have people who have lived and experienced a city as their home acting as your guides, your experience of their city is richer, your understanding deeper, and your impressions more authentic. Roobaroo's team - Saurabh and Anupam - are passionate chroniclers of Varanasi's history, its culture, its relevance in the modern world, and its food. I would strongly recommend them if you are planning to visit Varanasi.

It was such a pleasure to attend the virtual tour of Amritsar. Roobaroo Walks started exactly on time and ensured an engaging, insightful experience. It was evident how passionate our guide was about the history, culture, traditions, and important spots of this lovely city, and the effort that went into making the virtual experience as immersive as possible. I enjoyed my intro to the city and cannot wait to visit it in person. We also got to enjoy a little cultural surprise at the end of the walk. Very beautiful. Thank you to the Roobaroo team!

It was the best experience ever to some good hidden treasures of north varanasi. Saurabh conducted the walking tour very nicely. He was an amazing storyteller who knew history and insights of a place. The treasures tucked in the small lanes of Varanasi couldn't have been experienced in a better manner than the way saurabh helped us. I highly recommend booking with Roobaroo Walks and team.

I had the most amazing time walking the gulleys of Varanasi and sitting by the ghats in this unique itinerary. My guide, Anupam is such an amazing story teller, he took us to so many hidden spots that we would not have found by ourselves. More importantly his knowledge of history and his own love for his city is translated in everything he showed us. We also ate some of the best paan, lassi, mithai, jalebi…aaah I’d love to go again on the tour now. Don’t miss the chance to walk with Anupam (or anyone from Roobaroo).
