I spent ten days here. During that time, they were adamant that I could not leave (on those rare, brief occasions when I actually got to talk to a doc). At the ten-day mark, that changed, and they suddenly couldn't get me out fast enough. The difference? My insurance money ran out. My family told me it was nearly impossible to get a hold of me. They had to make numerous calls, got put on hold, hung up on, or just never had their calls answered. The food was the worst I have ever experienced. Absolutely disgusting, prison-quality food. I lost a ton of weight in those ten days just because I would rather starve than eat the garbage they served.

I went here as a child, and it made me feel awful. They wouldn't give out enough food. And as a result, I went hungry most nights. And if you have a complaint, their response is always the same, "Sorry, I can't do anything about that." They said that to almost all problems I came to them with. Are you shivering at night because it's too cold? Sorry, we can't give you another blanket. Has your roommate begun hitting you? Sorry, I don't care enough to do anything. Is your roommate stealing your stuff? Shut up and go back to your room; I know you're lying. This hospital doesn't treat people; it teaches them to hide their thoughts and emotions. Sending a child here makes them believe that their feelings are wrong and that they deserve punishment for those feelings. They treat children as if they are merely having a tantrum. I'm a little older now and can write this. The same issues I had then still plague me as I write this. However, I can't express my thoughts and emotions because I'm too afraid of going back here. Overall I'm traumatized and have much more severe mental health issues than before. Help yourself by NOT going here!

I agree! They need to close down this place!! Where’s is the health department and the law to make sure this place is doing what they supposed to do?!! Horrible Place!! Do Not!! leave your kids there with them!! They are Horrible! and their mental evaluations for your kids are useless. I took my son and left him in this place for 30 days. Not only they charge my health plan thousands of dollars. They also told me that in all their evaluations performed in the 1 month that my son stay with them. They didn’t find out anything wrong with him, that it was just his “personality” my son was 16 years old at that time he is 33 years old now and I regretted my whole life that I didn’t run with my son to get a second opinion!! RUN! With your son or daughter out of here! Even if the police bring them to this facility you refuse to leave them and tell the police you want to pick your own clinic to help your kid! Period!! And take care of your kids mental health NOW! Because both of You will pay for it later, their whole life and yours is in your hands right now and you are in control of both of your destinies. Remember you can’t make them get help after 18 yrs old and they will be lost forever! Take action and Control that is your job as a parent! They are kids and do not know better!! Do You at their age? Think about it. Most of the health plans have a very good mental health coverage, specialty in the times that we are living now. No, excuses! Take care of business with a strong hand and love at the same time you can get a lot from this kids. Be the smart one and take control!! they will Thank You Later and you will be able to breath and thank God. Also, don't leave it for tomorrow, because tomorrow will be worse. Take action now!

My daughter was admitted to the adolescent unit before Christmas. I understand that the staff may not have been the regular staff but there was definitely a disconnect in communication. We expected to meet with the counselor and ask question so we could bring her home in a safe way and prepare our house. She was discharged the day before leaving us to scramble and figure out what to do. It was very, very disappointing and her coming home was hard because we had to clear her room of anything that could potentially harm her (EXTREME CAUTION WAS TAKEN BECAUSE THERE WAS NO FEEDBACK). We tried to prepare her for what her room would be like but it sent her into a tailspin and we had to try and calm her down. It was so upsetting!! VERY POOR AT COMMUNICATING! The discharge nurse was new and had no information to help us. He just kept saying he was new! The discharge papers had an appointment on it for the day program, WHICH I FOUND but was not pointed out by staff. We went but they did not have her on their schedule. We would have had to make an appointment for the following week. Why would you put that on the paperwork if an appointment was not already set up?? Ok, fine...There is not room in a group. Just tell us that so we know how to move forward with her care. It made an already hard situation into an even harder one that her dad and I had to clean up. : ( I cannot figure out how they stay open with communication like this!

Fist of all my husbands review got deleted it . If there was a zero stars I will give them that . This is not a very therapeutic place . A soon as I step in there I was ready to go . is very noisy at the day room and you are required to keep your door open .silence is needed for a good recovery .when asked employees for something you usually get ignore . When telling a nurse about not feeling well ignore , constantly getting interrupted when trying to talk .some of the groups did not happen the paper was given away and the tech will just sit there on their phone . As mental Health patient you deserve a humane treatment not be treated like cattle . not everything is fix with a pill there is more to recovery . also people will call me and the calls rarely will go trough . some patients get out of control and disrespect the staff I did not feel safe in that place or felt like a human . My blood pressure was extremely high when I was there it is a horrible place . prayers from improvement 🙏. Mental health patient need to be treated with respect and love as well .

After suffering a life-altering accident, I started suffering from depression. Not knowing where to turn for help, I decided to check out Millwood to see what options they had available. I spent just over two hours in the waiting room because apparently the counselors were out to lunch despite it being the late afternoon, and apparently had patients brought in by ambulance and police that had to be seen. While sitting in the empty waiting room, someone on the other side of a set of locked double doors began violently shaking the doors trying to get them to open, while screaming that they were going to kill their family members whom they thought were in the waiting room. I was the only person in the waiting room, so I was nervous about the person busting through the doors and attacking the first and only person they saw, me. This went on for several minutes while staff completely ignored it. Finally, after just over two hours, I was finally called to the back. I was brought into a room where I was taken aback when they asked me to empty my pockets and they took my car keys and wallet, and then locked me in the room. I was nervous and wanted to leave, but couldn't. I was only there to ask what treatment options were available for depression and PTSD. After 10 to 15 minutes, someone came in to ask me questions off of a piece of paper and write down my replies. They could've given me the paper when I first came in and let me fill it out myself because this counselor could have been a custodian as far as I could tell because they did not appear to have any mental health training from what I could perceive. Some of the questions made me uncomfortable and were irrelevant to my situation. After close to three hours since I first came in, the counselor offered me a sheet of paper about group counseling in the building next door. Talking about my problems with a group of strangers was not what I wanted, and after the experience I had there, there was no way I was coming back. A feeling of relief came over me when I walked out the door because I truly felt like a prisoner who was finally freed. And shortly after this, a mental health clinic on the county level was recommended to me that actually made me feel welcome.

I wouldn’t send my worst enemy here. This place is wrong… I wants not a believer until I went to this place. It’s literally hell on earth. I’m pretty sure the staff is racist, they never smile, treat you like your not there. The doctor told me that he does not talk to patients he just gives you medication. I’m suing this place as soon as I can and I hope you guys join in on the fun for this civil case. 2000 a day to be tortured by staff while you can’t even get your basic needs. Good luck Millwood. See you on the other side.

My son is currently in here for treatment. Unless you curse them out, call them 100+ times to only be answered a total of 4 times in the course of 4 days they won’t do anything. I got transferred back to the adolescent side and a lady named Debbie answered, was extremely rude, condescending and disrespectful then hung up on me all because I asked “I was wondering why my son didn’t get to call me this evening” mind you this is after he reported Mr. Johnson for punching him in the neck (which I still haven’t heard back about the supposed investigation going on) this is now the next day and my son yet again has not been allowed to call me. I have talked with a supervisor more time than I can count about these issue all in which Lynn assured me they would be taken care of when in fact they have not. The fact that I can’t reach anyone about my 6 year old is ridiculous, what’s even more ridiculous is the fact that my son was punched in the neck by an adult and they refuse to do anything about it. I’m sick to my stomach that this is going on.

Last night the staff at Millwood discharged my husband’s nephew out into the street without treatment, without clothing, and without even calling the family first to tell them he would be discharged. The police found him wandering the streets downtown, and that’s how my sister-in-law got an update on how her newly-diagnosed schizophrenic son was doing. Shame on you Millwood. If you respond to this review, include the address and phone number of your ombudsman, please. In response to your reply to my comment… sending me to a generic contact form is NOT helpful. You already know that privacy laws prevent your staff from discussing anything useful with me. The family has to do so, but because there’s a language barrier, they probably won’t. At this point, my reason for writing this comment is simply so others who might come across this may know how your organization treats those who it knows probably won’t fight back or stand up for their rights. Granted I don’t have a language barrier, but no family member of mine will ever go to this facility, and I’ll be sure to tell anyone and everyone I know who can use the information exactly what happened to my nephew who was unfortunately entrusted to your care.

My husband was at Millwood for 10 days. It was a pretty hard time for us. Because the staff was very kind and helpful in walking us through the process’s and keeping me informed on my husbands condition/progress. Gerald and the nursing staff was an absolute God send. The overall compassion and care for the patients is something incredible. This facility is definitely hands down better because y’all have him on your team. Gerald was always very professional, knowledgeable, helpful, compassionate, and willing to go an extra mile to ensure safety or comfort to such an uncomfortable situation!! He gets an A ++++++++

After a forced admission, they are refusing to let me AMA my almost 18 year old son. Threatening CPS involvement and taking me to court when my son is not in danger and is under excellent outpatient care and has been for months. They have no accurate history of treatment as the other program sent over the wrong records, I haven’t even spoken with the doctor yet after he completed his assessment

It was obvious to me that the doctors have no care for your mental condition. A shooting occurred while I was there and I wanted to be released to go to another facility where I felt safe. No way they make you stay 7 days regardless. The nursing staff and workers did care about the patients. The management and doctor's do not. If you have a contract with them you get sent against your will which was the case of many in there. I seen people who sleep all day, others who had no normal mind in there so how in the world can you help someone who mind is gone? Money money when the mental health is in crisis at this time. They need to make a difference not cause more problems for sake of money. People who need to stay were released and people with insurance or money were keep. A doctor does not talk to you long enough to decide your mental status. I had them lie to my face to justify keeping me. I took advantage went to classes learned all I could about my problems. This place is a maukery of mental health help

Hopefully their mental care is better than their support structure. We had a family friend in here, and when trying to connect during the patient contact time, were unable to get through. Over 50% of the calls went unanswered and 90% of the rest were hung up on before actually reaching a person. Very unsettling when you are trying to support a patient and let them know you care.

If I had a choice in sending my mother here I wouldn't the staff is horrible and has no empathy nor compassion!! They lost my mother and laughed it off because she's her own guardian! My mother was diagnosed with schizophrenia and bipolar disorder and they released her to the streets and I had to call 911 to find her!!! Please have some type of guardianship over your loved ones before sending them here!!!!

The epitome of "A patient cured, is a customer lost." They violate patient rights regularly, the environment is that of a slum, and the staff is an absolute wreck and incompetent. Recommend ANY and EVERY other mental health facility. Go here if you want to feel much, much worse, though. It's great for that!

Millwood hospital was the most nurturing places with the most nurturing people including Ms.Devon, Mrs.Becky, Mrs.T, Ms.Ashley, Ms.B, etc. They are my family along with the patients i wish i was able to keep up with them but rules are rules. I hope that all of you enjoy it here to and have the best time you can at a mental hospital.

This place is nothing less then subhuman. There is to many patients per staff they are overwhelmed at times. The staff is kind and compassion. The doctors only come once or twice a week. You can never get straight answers. I would say 40% of the people there need to be in a nursing home not a mental health place. It is a routine everyday there is no contact with the outside world except tv. No newspapers no reading nothing. An as soon as the money runs out you are out of there the average stay is 7 days some people stay less cause the money runs out

the staff was extremely helpful and professional. i work in psych (they had no idea), so i had high expectations - they exceeded them all. every staff member i interacted with from intake, floor nurses, therapists, physician and house supervisor were fantastic. i would definitely use this place again for my adolescent should i need to.

I was there for about 10 days and honestly one of the traumatic experiences I have ever gone Through. I watched a patient beat another in there sleep and non of staff checked on any of the witnesses after the incident was dealt with. (They left me in my room having a panic attack for about an hour) another thing is that they took days to get permission to give me anxiety meds and would mock me when I had anxiety attacks. I was mocked and bullied by other residents and when I brought it up with a tech they did nothing to help stop or prevent it. I slept in a freezing cold room if I had to guess I'd say it was about 40-50 degrees at night. This is barely scratching the surface of what I had to go through (sorry if this is hard to read im typing this on my phone and this website makes it difficult to edit)

Don’t ever take any of your kids here or adults. They will lie to your face and tell you your kids doing good we don’t see any reason to keep her here any longer. Just wait till morning for doc to sign off on it…. Doc goes the next morning and petitions the judge for her to stay longer for no reason and the judge signs it. All they want is money from you even if there’s nothing wrong with your child.

I can’t say this place didn’t help my daughter, but they need to work on their communication and their systems in place. You can’t have someone’s most prized possession in your hands and fail to keep their parents informed. I was hardly ever able to speak with anyone about her care, and when I did it was hard to get specifics. When I checked her in, I was told I could call and speak with her at any time, but when I would call they’d always say she’s at group or lunch or something. Then after a few days of that, I was told I could only call to speak with her at a certain time. I’m here to pick her up now and was told they were unaware that she was being discharged today, which is absurd, because her therapist called just yesterday and told me that she would be discharged today. I would not recommend this place to anyone. Dealing with this facility has been far more frustrating than it should have been, especially while already trying to handle your first ever mental health crisis in your life. Get it together Millwood! You have to do better when people are trusting you with their children.

I admitted myself into MillWood voluntarily. The experience sucked, the facility was filthy and staff members handed things out without any gloves or any type of protection. After i was admitted i spoke with an RN who goes by the name of rebecca WHO I HIGHLY DONT RECOMMEND. She wasn't welcoming at all and didnt make me feel better what so ever. Although who did make the visit worth it was meeting Ms.Becky! I myself will never be returning to MillWood.

I was in the adolescent unit. Doctors are pretty good but don't communicate at all - I literally didn't know when I was leaving until a few hours before my discharge. Staff is rude and obviously doesn't care about the patients. When fights break out the staff refused to get involved. I was almost given the wrong medicine and almost had someone else's blood work done - if I hadn't noticed, I'd be in some serious pain. Day room is disgusting, food is disgusting, gym is disgusting, phone calls are limited and difficult. Some of the staff is very kind and the therapists are good at their jobs.

If you care about your loved one, please take them to a different hospital. This hospital is a joke. There is constant lack of communication, empathy, and poor customer service at the front desk area. The doctor and nurses never call back to provide any sort of update even with a release form from the patience. It seems like they avoid family members by any means. I hope they do better by the patients than what they do with the family members.

My experience at Millwood was extremely positive, once I recognized the need for my stay. The staff was helpful and polite given the circumstances. My doctor, NP, and social worker did everything they could to make sure I felt heard considering how many patients they had on their lists. Shout out to the nurses on staff during my arrival (Scott and Paul) and all the techs who kept everything and everyone on track. Without them I don’t know how my experience would have gone! I also appreciated the non-clinical feel. THANK YOU TO EVERYONE AT MILLWOOD!

PLEASE READ!!!! I stayed here for 11 days and during this time i was overdosed , rushed to the hospital, had my shoulder nearly broke by a staff member and was kicked when coming to from passing out. I spoke with people there and nothing happened. The overdosed happened after i was given 4x the amount of medication i should have received and caused my blood pressure to drop to 60/42 and multiple passing out episodes. During an episode of passing out i came awake to a staff member kicking me telling me to get up then yanking me by my shoulder up yelling at me to stop resisting. I was then dragged to my room and told i must want to stay longer. This place is horrible please listen to the reviews.

I will give zero star for this hospital! My daughter is in the waiting room for eight hours with no food and no clothes. When I got there, I had to call the police to give her a blanket. I want my daughter to be transferred to a different facility, but there is no communication with hospital happening. There is no diagnosis or treatment for my child for 48 or mere… hours. This is worse than a jail! People are very rude and don’t care about patience! Please don’t ever go to this place!!!!

We recently had a family member admitted to Millwood, although the experience itself was scary the staff at Millwood were literally the best. The admissions department was very knowledgeable and so understanding and patient, Fatima was down to earth and made us feel very comfortable. Nurse Christie was very informative and patient despite us calling all day. Tech Silver helped us through the visitation process and was such a sweetheart, very caring and upbeat. Our loved one got the treatment they needed and the resources to continue treatment outside of the hospital and is doing well. Thanks Millwood Staff!

TERRIBLE. this place sent my family member to the hospital with no notification. They said they “lost the phone numbers” UNACCEPTABLE. As a medical facility, you make it a point to keep contact information for family members. He got to the hospital, and there was no information given. They had no idea how to treat him since nobody from this facility did their jobs. Absolute trash. I hope this place gets shut down. These people don’t deserve to be “treated” here. Do NOT send your loved ones here. As usual, if I could give 0 stars, I would.

Reviews are reviews.. I am not discrediting anyone else's, but this is mine.. being new to Texas from Michigan. I was worried about an episode of mania coming back. my son was diagnosed with bipolar 1 with manic episodes in 2020 ..from may 24th to june 18th he was full-blown manic (which I was not qualified to handle )he had three trips to the hospital first one happen to be in Millwood where he was released to early (but who would've known what his "middle ground" was) I was so grateful to receive a call from Dr. Bennett to get my input and simply asked "is this him" regrettably I said no, so inturn him trying to find the proper doses so when I finally picked him up ...it was right. me and my son always talk about recovery week, which is the week after mania where depression sets in ..the medicine makes you "woozy" (which doesn't last long )but it has a purpose. as for the staff at Millwoood thank you. I know you're doing the best you can, as every case is different so thank you for all you do. Mental health is not a race to "get better " it's a marathon. I "have my son back" "he has his-self " back ..step by step. trust the process!

This place is a torture chamber for the underprivileged. I got sent here from JPS after a car accident. Torture is their prerogative. Do not send your loved ones here. I feel like I was psychologically tortured and have severe PTSD from this asylum. If you hate someone don’t send them here, I wouldn’t send my worst enemy here. They drug people so they are disoriented and drop them off on the side of the road after the cab driver tries to rob them. I had a broken neck and foot, begged for a doctor ( never saw one after being promised I would) they had me crawling on my hands and knees to take a shower, once I fell (did I mention I was warned in the hospital I could become paralyzed if I fell? Oh okay) and finally got moved to a unit where I could at least elevate my foot after it was rewrapped by staff who were not trained to cast a broken foot (twice). They violated my rights, the “Doctor” I use that term loosely as I saw no credentials, threatened me to take bi-polar meds or I couldn’t leave. I have never been properly diagnosed as such and he decided because I was rightfully upset, I was- in under one minute, literally. He also yelled in the hallway I could be borderline personality disorder. Here’s a disorder for you, that’s against the law you disgrace to the psychiatry field. Everyone has jobs they hate-quit if you can’t do it anymore- Dr. Bennett, 40 years is too long for someone who isn’t good at their job. I couldn’t have my walker because it was considered a weapon, so I had to hop one legged to shower, wash my hands, etc. (broken foot and neck remember) the sink didn’t work nor did the toilets, and no antibacterial soap to be found in a Covid environment. They had people running around in soiled paper clothes for days. Disgusting. Some clearly had dementia, they needed to be in a care facility not this cesspool state funded pill-mill. Big pharma dips their hands in the water of the people who have no voice. A nursing student and I coined it “pillwood”. I gave my wheelchair away the last day to a poor young man who needed it more than me. They didn’t have enough to provide, go figure. Torture chamber, remember? The intake lady was dressed in masquerade clothing when I arrived (it was Halloween, used to be my favorite holiday) and the masquerade mask was the entrance. Once the doors close you’re in hell…Or purgatory which is what I thought this was when I was reading revelations, since the only book provided was the Bible. The patients show far more compassion than the staff. They had a lady with cirhossis stage 2 being wheeled around by patients. The list goes on at this abomination. The staff here is hit or miss, some are lovely. I have so many sad stories of people seeking help only to be abused, including me. Although, I was sent here against my will after a head on collision. I could write a book about my experience, and I just might in court, burn this place to the ground!!!! Which is what I said before I was dumped on the side of the road at a 7/11 alone because I live in Florida and knew no one. Which I had a well-documented panic attack where police were called. I wasn’t arrested as I would have broken my other foot to escape any authority figure in Texas. Nightmare state. Well, I’m back home and seeking an attorney if anyone knows a good one! I also documented much of this with the patient care advocate Stephanie. I hope she sent them through, I have many many many more. They thought they had some idiot in there, they were wrong. I know people they probably weren’t aware of like my uncle who is a judge, and aunt who is a well-respected attorney. If anyone wants to join me in taking this horrid place down please contact me. Also, they have a children’s unit DO NOT SEND YOUR CHILDREN HERE, PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!

I was admitted into the adolescent 5 different times through the years of 2021-2022. this hospital is not recommended. the staff doesn't care about your mental health, there was many times girks would have panic attacks and or fight eachother and the staff would refuse to even pay attention. I remember times i was pushed by the techs and physically handled for absolutely no reason. the staff loved to degrade the girls and make jokes about our appearances. there where times when i was out on UR ( unit restriction ) meaning i couldn't leave the unit for a long period of time, just for saying i wasn't hungry. staff leaves metal soda cans around the day room which was a hazard for self harming girls. One of the staff members said that her children would never be like us because they weren't failures. Nothing in that facility is cleaned, the staff actually forced us to clean the day rooms and gym, if we didn't they wouldn't let us eat. there is so much more that i could elaborate further about. just don't admit your child here. it's a prison.

😠 Had an appointment at 1:15. Took them a hour just get called to the back(less busy). Get to the back checked my vitals, did a nose and throat swab and never came back. No doctor no nurse. I wish I could give a zero stars. This is ridiculous.
