Uncrowded and great for a peaceful afternoon walk. Also close to fraga da pena (which is walkable if you don't mind a bit of trek)

Great to go in the early autumn to find sweet chestnuts & wild mushrooms the water from the spring is fantastic too

Maybe I was expecting too much... but I came out somewhat disappointed. This piece of forest is a rare example of the original forest covering the Iberian Peninsula 2,000 years ago. No sign of wild pines, not sign of the horrendous eucalyptus and other invasive species. I heard that wild fires ravaged the area just outside the perimeter of the park which makes it look smaller and a kind of an natural island. Anyway, I was expecting it bigger and with much more guidance and information, which was pretty much non-existent at the time of my visit.
