I
decided
to
embark
on
the
Spirit
and
Stillness
tour
for
my
50th
Birthday.
I
was
picked
up
in
the
morning
by
a
wonderful
driver
named
Wayan
(I
believe).
He
took
us
and
the
other
participants
to
Luh's
place
to
get
ready
for
the
tour.
At
the
house
we
were
all
dressed
in
the
full
traditional
Balinese
dress.
From
there
we
headed
to
Pura
Mengening.
Mengening,
is
a
water
temple
who’s
name
means
“stillness”.
This
water
temple
is
a
very
local
temple
not
touristic
at
all
unlike
the
others
in
the
area.
Upon
arrival
Luh,
who
is
a
Jero
Priestess,
led
us
in
meditation
then
taught
us
the
purification
ritual
we
would
be
embarking
on.
The
purification
ritual
is
a
spiritual
cleansing
ritual
where
you
let
go
of
everything
which
no
longer
serves
you,
and
take
in
that
which
moves
you
forward.
After
our
purification
ritual,
Luh
led
us
in
a
traditional
Balinese
thank-you
ceremony
the
small
temple
located
at
Pura
Mengening.
Following
our
amazing
experience
at
the
water
temple,
we
headed
to
Bebek
Tepi
Sawah
for
a
wonderful
breakfast.
The
restaurant
is
situated
on
beautiful
grounds
in
a
rice
field.
Following
breakfast
we
each
had
the
opportunity
to
meet
with
Luh's
shaman
who
speaks
no
English
and
normally
does
not
meet
with
tourists.
By
tapping
into
your
energy
and
using
you
name
and
date
of
birth
along
with
palm
reading
she
gives
you
guidance
and
advice
on
how
to
move
forward
with
your
life.
I
really
was
a
bit
hesitant
on
the
whole
thing
at
the
start
but
I
was
there
so
I
did
it.
All
I
can
say
is
that
it
was
a
very
powerful,
emotional
and
empowering
experience.
While
we
were
waiting
our
turn
we
also
had
the
opportunity
to
learn
how
to
make
the
traditional
Balinese
offerings.
You
see
these
things
everywhere
in
Bali.
On
the
seats
of
motorcycles,
on
door
steps,
temples,
cars
etc.
Every
day
these
offerings
are
made
to
give
thanks.
Overall
it
really
was
a
very
spiritual
day.
By
keeping
an
open
mind
I
found
the
experience
very
powerful.
If
you
are
wanting
to
embark
on
a
true
water
cleansing
ritual
I
would
highly
recommend
going
with
Luh.
You
will
truly
get
an
authentic
Balinese
experience
and
have
the
opportunity
to
really
learn
about
the
culture
vs
going
to
the
other
large
temples
where
you
don't
get
the
opportunity
to
truly
understand
what
you
are
embarking
on.
