More like a 1 star hotel than a 3 star hotel in all honesty. Lots of broken items around our room when we arrived, someone smoking on the balcony right next to us. Loud running through the halls at night. Just a few cheap updates like new screens, new ceiling tiles, sliding doors that lock, no duct tape, clean walls, maintenance crew and maids that knock before entering and this would be a nice hotel. Pictures included from when we checked in.

EDIT 2: I am putting my rating back to 1 star. The hotel charged us the full rate for our room to our credit card despite telling us we would get a discount. At checkout we paid cash for the discounted rate, so essentially they double charged us. We tried to contact the manager everyday for a week, but every time we called he had "just left." We never got a call back from the hotel so we were left with contesting the charge with Chase. THIS HOTEL IS SHADY AND BAD NEWS. EDIT: I added 2 stars to this review because the staff is so nice and helpful... they even have us money off for the problem we had below. This place is not a $120+ per night hotel. The main plus is that the staff is very nice. However, the rooms are dirty, the tub/bathroom has rust stains, and the paint is chipping off the walls everywhere. Oh and the elevator smells like dog pee. Additionally, the lock in our door STOPPED WORKING. We got locked out of our room twice, and it took the hotel half the day to fix it.

We couldn’t stay. The room smelled horrible, the floor was dirty, the sheets were stained, the bed was visibly sagging, there was a hole in the carpet, the alarm clock was on the dresser in the room but it was plugged in the bathroom with the cord going out the door to the dresser. The furniture was beat up and arranged very poorly. The wallpaper was dated and peeling off the wall. And worst of all the toilet was running on and off. Very annoying and unacceptable. It’s really quite sad because the hotel has potential with its location and views. One can tell that it used to be a very nice place to stay. But between the run-down amenities and lack of care into cleaning and maintaining the standards of the hotel, this is a no-go.

Perfect location and price! Love that there is not a two night minimum. They are still in the process of renovating so it’s not fully complete. Rooms are fine, beds comfy. We had the two room king suite and it was great having two full bathrooms. We don’t spend a lot of time in our room when visiting silver beach so we did not mind the lacking of “extras” not offered. There WAS a microwave, fridge and coffee maker. We would stay again. The owners and staff were so friendly and are trying really hard to make it a better hotel. Breakfast was your standard cold hotel breakfast but there are tons of bakeries and spots to eat in the area. We go a few times a year and have always stayed at the other popular hotel right down the street. If wanting to save money and not being required to stay two nights this hotel was well worth it. We would stay again.

This hotel was just plain WEIRD. They have a pet bird living in the lobby, it's very dark, old, and is need of a major update. We sprung for the king spa room (which looked nice online). Do not trust the photos online!! I wish I would have looked more into the reviews and less into the misleading photos. Everything was just so old and worn out. Each fixture in the room (lights, towel rack, furniture) was loose and wobbly including the door which made me feel a bit uneasy. We never used the jacuzzi because all of the hardware was rusty and it flat out looked gross. The entire place smelled funky. The bed was terrible. We honestly went down to complain (which I never ever do) and just didn't even bother because there were already others there complaining. I could seriously go on and on about the things I disliked. The only reason I gave it two stars was the location. It is so close to the amazing beach and the cute downtown area is the next block over. Next time I visit I will not be staying here.

Hotel is outdated, my room did not match what I had selected online. The beds are not only uncomfortable but also gross. I found urine stains on the first bed and dark long black hair on the second bed. The bathroom was not cleaned properly and had mold stains. The air vents were covered in dust. The mini fridge smelled and was not working. Our tub and toliet were clogged. Cops were called to the scene because of a fight right in their parking lot. The only good thing I can say that front staff was polite and friendly. Otherwise, the location is perfect because its 12 minutes away from the beach by foot. There is a gas station on the corner and a liquor store in front of the hotel. Also many restaurants within walking distance.

We arrived into town super early and the staff was so helpful in letting us check in early! The building was clean and the staff was so friendly. The location is amazing! So close to shops and water. They have only had the hotel open for 4 weeks with the new owners so the pool was not open yet, but everything else seems to be all set 👍 Oh and they're pet friendly! I'll definitely be back.

This hotel is close to the beach and close to some shopes. It has a good breakfast buffet and a bar. The rooms are clean but every time I walked in it smelled bad. my friends room was missing a Tolit paper holder and the halls look old. There is isa pool, hot tube, and sana. Dogs are allowed and there's is two birds that they keep in the lobby which is ok for me but I don't know about people with allergies. It's also very expensive. Overall it's not the best hotel but the workers are friendly.

I was hopeful for a good experience here but we had to leave after one night as it was a horrific time. The hallways are dirty like others have said, have a weird smell.. rooms appear to be some what updated however ours had water damage in the shower ceiling, dirty and peeling shower floor, the mirror light didn’t work. Multiple dead bugs smashed on the ceiling and wall. Refrigerator had a horrible smell so we had to let our leftovers go bad. The beds were extremely uncomfortable and hard to sleep on. The icing on the cake was getting waken up by the building doing renovations and hammering away on the floor above. Pool is closed and filled with a bunch of toilets. The location was nice & luckily no bed bugs, but I’m not sure it’s worth the stay. **the towels were also dirty and stained but luckily we brought a couple of our own we were planning to use at the beach.

SHUT DOWN! This hotel should be closed immediately due to unhealthy living conditions. There was BLOOD STAINS all over the bed, used towels on the floor, used soap and toilet paper left over and BLACK MOLD in the refrigerator. My spouse has severe allergies. The staff was extremely rude and was not willing to execute these issues. Unfortunately the entrance to the hotel was wide open and had no locks to secure the premise- anyone was available to walk in and out day and night. They had maybe 2 staff members working and would not refund our money. I asked for a manager or a business card and he refused. After the police were called to investigate we were able to get our money back- (NOT IN FULL) - save yourself the trauma and stay anywhere else. Filed w the Better Business Bureau as well.

Lobby was beautiful! Rooms were nice. Looks like they are in the middle of updating??? Needs at least one picture hung on the wall. Can’t believe the pool was closed!!! My six year old was devastated. One elevator creaks vm very loud. Breakfast or lack there of was so bad we walked to a bakery. You might as well not even offer breakfast if bread and cereal are your options. Not to mention out some more tables in the empty room. Looks very uninviting. Great location! Would come back again but definitely needs improvements especially for price. A chair on the balcony would have been nice.

The renovation is obviously not completely finished or else they didn't do a good job. There's still numbers written in sharpie on the shower walls... the toilets are not low-flush, but more like no-flush. Broke my butt on the stairs after it rained. TV didn't really work. Breakfast is okay but minimalistic. I stayed several nights and the room only got the trash taken out, no other cleaning or replacing coffee supplies. Not too bad for $100/night during the week though. Balconies were nice. Lots of hot water for showers. Great location downtown. Employees are nice.

Where do I begin. First off the staff was polite and helpful. That was the only good part. The first room we had the shower clogged after a 10 minute shower so we asked for a new room. After being at the beach for hours before my husband just wanted to shower and didn’t want to with a puddle of about 5 inches of water. Second room was better but still not great. Sheets are scratchy, pillows are super firm, if you have small children print stickies to put in the bath tub. They don’t have anything down and my 2 year old slipped. Thankfully I was there to catch her or she would have cracked her head. You are only allowed 3 towels per room even if you book saying more than 3 are visiting, my friend had a family of 5 and was told no when they asked for more towels. Don’t plan on being able to charge too many devices, outlets are limited. Some room numbers are written on the wall with a sharpie. My husband found a safety pin on the carpet in the hall. Some bedding was stained. Fridge very cold that is in the room and the grates were rusted.

Very disappointed and poorly kept older hotel. Carpet is torn, room outlets open and crooked. Mirror was cracked on bathroom door and skylight over pool is literally broken and open to outside elements as you can see in the pictures. Rooms were supposed to be smoke free but people next door were still smoking cigarettes and marijuana. Had to call the front desk twice on the room across from us due to all the screaming and pounding that occurred for four hours straight. I was with my family and did not get any sleep. We asked for our money back and they refused! The female across our room who claimed it was her room and her room key wouldnt work finally called the police and they ended up breaking the door open to find her little kids were left alone inside. Management would not open the door for her. Horrible experience!!!!

Do not waste your money. Rooms were not terribly disgusting however when I pulled out the night stand to plug my charger in there was an acrylic nail on the floor. On the first day we got up in the morning to head to the lake, upon exiting the room there was a member of the housekeeping staff who asked another guest when they walked out of their room if they were leaving, when he said yes they would be back in the evening she shoved a clipboard in his face and said “here sign this saying you don’t need your room cleaned” he explained that they did want it cleaned. When we returned from the beach we approached our room with two vacuum cleaners sitting outside our door (which weren’t used to sweep the hallway may I add). When we entered our room we found out it had not been cleaned and we had not gotten fresh towels. We called the front desk and told them housekeeping never came and we needed fresh linens. A woman (who I believe to be a manager as she has been working in an office near the front desk) brought towels. She didn’t bother to take the two random vacuum cleaners. The pool was very cloudy. The light that goes in the pool was sitting on the side, although the wires were still in the water. There were earrings and hair clips on the side of the pool, we were the only ones there at the time. Also, pursuant to Michigan code 427.3 (e) there must be one clearly written fire evacuation safety plan posted in the room. There was nothing. There was a place on the back of the door for a plan but it was empty. Don’t stay here.

Staff was (mostly) friendly. They seemed to tolerate guests, not so much above and beyond customer service. We discovered the latch to our balcony door was broken and since we have a 2 year old we felt uncomfortable. My husband called the front desk and maintenance was in our room and had the door fixed within 15 minutes! That was appreciated. Breakfast was great. The fold out bed was made, but had food crumbs between the sheets. Obviously the sheets were not changed from the last guest. The king bed was comfortable and clean. We really enjoyed the HUGE whirlpool in the room after a chilly afternoon walking the beach. Good location. Good view. Overall is in desperate need of updates

We booked on Friday for a Saturday stay. When we arrive it was posted a planned power outage for the whole city through the night. Could have mentioned that. The room was dirty. There was still food in the refrigerator and the refrigerator door would not close so the carpet was wet. The bed was awful and made horrible creaking sound when you moved. Elevator was not working. Hauled stuff down 6 floors to leave. Worst hotel! Only thing they have going is location.

The Silver Beach Hotel is the perfect place to stay for a vacation getaway in St. Joseph, Michigan. The staff is so friendly and really makes you feel at home. The hotel is within walking distance from everything. Our room was clean, comfortable and had everything we needed for our stay. We are already planning our trip back to St. Joseph, and we will definitely stay at the Silver Beach Hotel again!

Our family spend the weekend July 11 2020 at Silver Beach Hotel. The room did not have soap, sink and tub did not drain. We switched to another room. The linens were not smooth. Loud music from the lobby bar kept us awake most of the night. We were on the second floor - management would not accommodate the guest and turn off music. This site is convenient to everything, but this hotel was old and not updated. There were stains in carpet, wall paper peeling, old furniture. For the price this was not worth it.

We visit St. Joe's often and know that Silver Beach has been renovating the hotel. We travel with our two newfies, and it is hard to find places that like big dogs. It is a work in progress, but what has been renovated is really nice. We would definitely stay again!

Location great! Hotel is a nightmare and the staff is no help. Pics on website are not accurate. Pool? What pool..it's empty with a ton of toliets around it. Continental breakfast? Lol what a joke. It was toast and that's it. Room was disgusting and the hotel is under cheap construction. Please let me post the disgusting pictures of this disgusting establishment

Everyone was very nice. It was in a great location where you could walk around and shop and dine. The rooms were not clean. The table was dirty. There was dust. But me being me, when I travel I always have Lysol wipes and Lysol spray. But if I'm not being paid to clean a hotel room or my bill is not being discounted, I would prefer not to have to clean my room before utilizing it. But honestly, other than that it was nice.

I stayed here once and will not be back. Apparently everyone who stays here is a heavy smoker; between the housekeeping staff smoking and the large number of people who smoke on their balconies. You will be guaranteed to smell second-hand smoke a LOT.

Pleasant surprise! Room was modest but updated with coastal colors and very clean. Lobby was impressive and the staff were all friendly. The location can’t be beat. Only a block to the main shopping strip with lots of restaurants to choose from & less than a 10 minute walk to the beach. Looking forward to my next getaway here.

This hotel is the perfect exemple for the quote: Don't judge a book by its cover. From the outside, it doesn't seem good at all, but going inside and meeting the staff make you change your mind already. Very clean facility, comfortable beads, the hotel is under renovations. We got a suite with two king beds, two rooms, for a very good price. The location was wonderful. Walking distance from Lake Michigan and the staff recommended a pizzeria that was delicious and beautiful too. A train station pizzeria! Highly recommend.

For the price you pay...we were very disappointed in our stay! The TV in our room was going bad..kept getting dark stripes thru the screen, they used tape to hold the batteries in, the tub had mold around the edges and the bottom of the tub looked stained. The bathroom door didn't close all the way. The bed was lumpy & the pillows flat. They have a Keurig in the room but no coffee to use in it. The check in staff was flustered and not welcoming. With covid..no breakfast was served, but no discount or voucher for a local restaurant was offered. The pool was closed. I could go on....but I won't. I was very disappointed for spending $240 on one night.
