Beautiful stave church in its original surrounding. The admission fee is quite high for what you get tho. Small exhibition about stave churches plus the entrance to the church that is super tiny, not lit up at all , not much explained or anything. Tbf it is much more beneficial to see the one in Oslo Folksmuset where you can ask all the questions to the friendly volunteers but also see the spectacular interior as well as other houses and artifacts for almost the same price. The place was packed with dummy tourists when we visited so it lost a lot of its magic and mistical vibe. A beautiful place nontherless especially for fans of stave churches. I advise to go in the off peak time when you can enjoy the full charm of this place. The church is in an original state , with lots of tar bulit up over the centuries, so it is a real architechtural and spiritual gem.

Beautiful stave church, very well preserved (86% original wood) for over 8 centuries. Guides are around to answer questions. There's a lovely visitor center with small cafe (sandwiches, drinks, delicious cakes, vegan stew and rolls), exhibit and small gift shop. Beautiful surrounding countryside, open, welcoming space, pleasantly uncrowded with steady flow of visitors. Delightful and very helpful staff.

We booked our bus ticket from Flam Visitor Centre for this place just one hour before departure. It was a 50 seater bus and we two were the only passengers. The bus driver was very friendly and he stopped the bus at 2/3 places to show us some interesting spots and some waterfalls. These stops were not part of journey, but since we were the only passengers, he stopped it. The bus fare included entry to this beafuful Church. It is considered to be the best preserved Stave Churches in Norway. The main Church was in a very good condition. We sat for five minutes and felt positive vibes. The old church was also worth seeing though its condition was not good at all (see my pictures). The surroundings of the Church had beautiful landscaping and scenic view of the mountains in the background. Thereafter we had some coffee in the Visitors Centre. On the whole it turned out to be a very good trip seeing the beautiful countryside and some breathtaking waterfalls (see pictures).

What a church!!! Never seen church like this one! One of the oldest churches with most beautiful smell... Resembles me an old wise woman with wrinkles all over her body who has seen a lot and nothing can surprise her. Incredible piece of history.

Beautiful stave church off the main route so it was fairly quiet, although it was September. Imagine July & August would be busier. September was amazing for the lovely autumnal colours. Small museum and cafe in a modern building a short distance from the church. The nearby river is also worth looking at.

Beautiful church! This church holds a ton on history and is very well preserved. The museum had some nice touches and information. If you’re able to add this to your trip, I highly recommend it!

Absolutely gorgeous. Wherever you look, everything is so beautiful. This church is almost nearly 1000 years old and still standing.

Among the remaining Norwegian stave churches. It has been rebuilt in the early 1900. There is a modern visitor center nearby with a short exhibit explaining the construction of stave churches. Impressive church. Expensive entry fee of ~$12/10€.

Nice church. But it's not stone. It's being repaired it in an amateur way with burnt wood. It doesn't worth to pay for the ticket. Edited: The wood church was built in 1200 and the stone church( that I didn't find it a stone church) was built in 1868

Borgund church is considered to be the best preserved of the surviving stave churches in Norway. The most incredible thing is that this church has survived until today. The ticket costs 100 NOK per adult. It allows you to visit the stave and the new churches. More pictures of our roadtrips in Hordaland (Norway) and in the World on my Insta : manu_arcueil

A breathtaking old church that gives you a real taste of the history. The service and exhibition buliding is a nice starter and the attendance is super kind.

This is a beautiful, mesmerizing place! The pitch black church had a gothic feel to it. Inside is also still beautiffuly preserved. A must visit when you can!

This was the third stave church that we visited and what a magnificent one it is! It is absolutely amazing to see how good the many details of old are actually preserved until now! Also the atmosphere in this church in Borgund was somehow very special.

I think this is the BEST example of a Stave church. It has all the architecture reminiscent of the viking era. Well, immediate post viking era. This one has been kept as close to original as possible. Unlike others that have been "upgraded" centuries ago. Well worth going out of your way to see it and learn from the local guide for a modest fee.

Very unique and well preserved 12th century Norwegian Church. It's a small church but definitely worth visiting. Buy the entry tickets from the visitor centre first. For those who find the entry fee of NOK 100 too steep, you can still get a good view from outside the fence. The lady on duty at the entrance was very friendly and helpful in answering questions about the church.

We did not catch a tour or visit when the visit center was open but we did take a walk around the Stave church. Looks wonderfully preserved. A little spooky because no one else was around but would recommend if you're driving from Bergen - Oslo or vice versa.
