Very disappointing experience.I found it in Michelin Guide, thought it should be good. BUT, among all 4 dishes we ordered, the only acceptable food is fish soup. The oyster is pretty average, and their special meat, veal, is terrible. Very smelly and we were not be able to finish it. But if there is one thing ruined my mood is there services. The waitress came and check the food, when heard about the smelly feedback, she just ignored. And this is the first time the waitress left POS machine on the table and make myself swipe the card...the first time in my life time. We two spent around $250 for the food but even no one said Goodbye and not even a smile to us. Really don't think it should be put as Michelin recommendation.

Outstanding quality and combination of dishes. 11-course menu (NOK 1849) 1. Sashimi, lovage sauce and chili oil - Good. 2. Langoustine tempura and shiitake puré - Fresh and meaty. The shiitake sauce went well with the langoustine. The tempura was very lightly coated. 3. Lettuces with beef tartare, dashi and browned butter - subtle good dressing 4. Roasted fish, artichoke purée and lavender - The St Peter’s fish (John Dory) was fresh and firm, crisp skin, and had a good flavour. 5. Scallops, smoked butter and lemongrass sauce - The scallops were fresh and firm. Great flavour. The sauce went well with them. Sourdough and butter - The sourdough had great flavour and texture. 6. Brown crab, rice and truffle - The brown crab ragu was rich in flavour and the Yunnan rice went well with it. Excellent. Had the feel of comfort food. 7. Pork head, asparagus, and oysters - The pork head cubes were fatty and crispy. The oyster sauce and the white and green asparagus went well with the dish. 8. Langoustine and jerusalem artichoke soup - The langoustine and crab jelly chawamushi had depth of flavour. 9. Dry aged duck, ramson and garlic of the season - Excellent skin like roasted Peking duck. Tender, meaty, and a thick slice. The reduction sauce with jalapeño went well with the duck. 10. Rhubarb, strawberries and butter milk - The combination of yuzu sorbet with strawberry and rhubarb foam was great. 11. Brown cheese parfait, sea buckthorn and white chocolate cream - Enjoyed the combination of savoury, sweet, and sour flavours. Yuzu chocolate - Good. Good service.

Lysverket has a tastning menu or a three course menu. We tried the last with the wine menu to support the meals. The menu gave us two options for starters, two options for main and two for dessert. I addition we got a small starter and a small extra dessert. Both interesting and very tasteful. The dinner was very nice and everything was cooked to perfection. The servings were traditional and not very experimental but excellent ingredients were used and everything was prepared with love and a steady hand. I expect the tasting menu to be more experimental. The wines were daring and complex and supported the food brilliantly. The atmosphere was relaxing and the service was good. Great place and reasonably priced.

Definitely the worst restaurant in Bergen. Has nothing to do with Michelin. There is simply no worse service to be found. I have not seen such boorish behavior of the staff for a long time. It seems that the service staff, along with the managers, simply hate their customers and their work. They communicate in an aggressive manner. I definitely do not recommend visiting this place. The prices do not match the quality of the dishes and service.

Michelin recommended restaurant in the building of the KODE 4 contemporary art museum. Modern spacious interior. Choice of a 6/7 course menu or order the same menu dishes a la carte. Dishes made with a lot of local ingredients an flavours. I visited on a busy Friday evening. My party ordered 2 menu's and 2 a la carte. Quality and taste of the food is good, presentation of the food was a bit sloppy by Michelin standards. Menu has good sized servings, the a la carte dishes are rather small. Best for all guests in your party to order the set menu which is the better value. Staff was friendly, prices Norwegian/Swiss level.

Michelin restaurant with one star. In my opinion, a starred restaurant should have a wow factor. Most of the dishes did not have that. The dry aged beef with beet and the caviar certainly had that, but the seafood dishes lacked excitement. The flavors were good, but not exciting enough for a restaurant of this level. I also missed the amuses bouche. The non-alcoholic package was fine, though some of the glasses here were poured too full. The restaurant has a pleasant atmosphere, the service is perfect. Professional in an open and relaxed manner. Nice to have also been able to go through the above feedback with the waiter. 3 stars for the food, because it was good. But it should have been amazing. That you enjoy with your eyes closed and your world is just that bite.

(Translated by Google) Beer and wine ok. Ordered Catfish and asked for extra vegetables. The vegetables consisted of spinach and cooked beets. The fish was not fried enough so they had to take it out. Then got the cod that we had not ordered. The dish was very tasteless. If this is a restaurant known for good food, then I don't understand it. Makes much better fish meal itself. But the staff tried to do their best. Ate lunch at Opus and it was very good Paid by the way over 1000 kr. Men betjening prøvde å gjere sitt beste. Åt lunsj på Opus og den var veldig god Betalte forresten over 1000 kr.

Great desert, fabulous wine selection. But overpriced. Ox cheek was good but having just had a very similar dish at another upscale restaurant the night before for 1/2 the price, it was nothing to write home about. Lovely service though, everyone was wonderful. Again nothing was bad, just not worthy of the $250 price tag for two people.

The drinks, food, service, and atmosphere were all excellent. I got the full menu with wine pairings and they were all great. Mostly white wines due to the menu.

A 10 course meal that was leisurely served with 8 courses of paired wine. The wine and the food were excellent. The atmosphere could easily be pretentious, but it wasn’t. The host/sommelier was funny and honest and very knowledgeable. Only lost a star because the service and the food and wine descriptions started off great, but by the end of the meal the host disappeared and the junior waitstaff were serving and describing the wines served with desserts. At the very high price of the meal this was the only disappointment.

It is outstanding food and wine at a 10 course feast, no doubt on that. But for a Michelin star place the service was rushing (maybe they were understaffed on our day), very briefly explaining the wines and food and running away after that, and in general, no personal touch of the place. Also some of the dishes missed a character - they were still nice, but without a surprise, namely the full green 4th course, the kimchi-fish 2nd and the hazelnut only dessert. White wine lineup was a bit mixed also, the Riesling's stronger character should be not the first, and the mild Chardonnay should not be the last white, rather the other way around. It is very good overall, but for a 7000kr two person dinner would expect higher standards to give 5 stars.

Amazing food - worthy of five stars without a doubt. Where this restaurant falls short is the distinctly unwelcoming attitude from the staff. Whilst not unfriendly they seemed disinterested in making this a welcoming experience. The courses, whilst genuinely very good , were very rushed. We received no help with the wine lists. In fact we had two courses delivered within the first 10 minutes of the meal and we hadn’t even been asked what we wanted to drink. All in all it felt s as if they just wanted the table back & we were a bit of an inconvenience. Great food but rushed service. Very odd & by comparison & not worthy of their Michelin Star until they address the above. (I’ll caveat this with stating that I’ve enjoyed 1,2&3 starred restaurants so I do know of which I speak. ). I would like to give this a higher score but this experience was rushed and seemed like we were being pushed out the door. Very odd indeed…..

Lysverket is a modern Michelin-starred Norwegian restaurant in Norway’s “second city” Bergen, run by chef/owner Christopher Haatuft, a lovely, passionate person. The restaurant was featured in the New York Times in 2017 as "redefining Nordic Cuisine", and offers a single 10-course menu with a natural focus on local seafood, such as handpicked scallops from diver and longtime collaborator Knut Magnus Persson . They have a second restaurant in Houston. Christopher simultaneously runs the project MatTak together with local gardener Sigurd Boasson. Their goal is to spread knowledge about growing food and finding solutions for issues caused by climate change. The idea is to grow food on rooftops throughout the city to manage the impacts of heavy rain, while at the same time provide locally sourced produce for restaurants and residents of Bergen. Lysverket uses vegetables grown locally by MatTak, helping reduce the restaurant’s environment

Exquisite dinner with @lysverket ❤️ A fantastic 9-course meal with non-alcoholic drinks pairing. 1. Sashimi of halibut, buttermilk sauce with dill, apple and celery 2. “Royal” with mahogany clam, cucumber and herb oil 3. Roasted fish with reduced wine vinegar and artichoke puree 4. Scallop from Sotra with shitake mushrooms and smoke butter sauce (personal favourite) 5. Dry aged chicken and selfish sauce 6. Winter root vegetables, XO sauce and egg cream 7. Grilled ribeye, beet, shiso, jalapeño and beef jus vinegairette 8. Blood orange salad, fermented honey icecream and herb granola 9. Chocolate panna cotta and mushroom ice cream with tule Had an amazing time, food was amazing and service was top-notch! Favourite restaurant in Bergen 😍

We read a great review in THE NEW YORK TIMES about Lysverket . Timing was perfect as we were traveling to Norway soon after. We had a great time and delicious dinner with a Norwegian friend. The staff was friendly and respectful. There was one little mix up with the reservation but they made up for it with a complimentary dessert and a visit to the kitchen. They were thrilled with the article in the TIMES. I think we made their day and they made ours. If we ever get back to Bergen, Lysverket will definitely be on our menu.

I was excited to try this restaurant after reading many glowing reviews. We arrived for our reservation and were made to sit at the bar to wait for our table despite the fact that the restaurant was less than half full (mysteriously we were not even offered a drink). Bread and drinks required multiple requests and long waits. When our main course arrived the plate had a piece of paper (likely our order ticket) still on it, which our waitress quickly grabbed to pull off after setting it in front of us. Drink glasses and dinner plates were cleared away before we had finished. The food was average, very small portions. Terrible service. We were very disappointed.

I was here with a group of nine. Upon arrival we were showed to our table and served drinks. The menu was preordered. The food was precented very nice. The chefs doing a marvellous job. Unfortunately their work was spoiled by uninterested waiters. We had to ask every time which wine they paired the food with, and also had to ask about the food we got served, and what it was. It looked like one of the waiters got annoyed by the pickiness and the potential allergy from some of the people in our group. The unfriendly mood was picked up, at least by myself. When we left, no one from the staff found it interesting enough to thank us for the visit and welcoming us back another time. I hope the chefs will find a better place to work soon, or the management will do something about the waiters. For a venue within this price range and style, this is not good enough. Sorry.

Some of us are vegetarian. We have done so many tasting menus around the world. This was pale. The veg food was inadequate, tasteless and uninspiring. While I understand that Norway is a seafood eating nation, if you are a Michelin star restaurant, and offering the option to customers for dietary restrictions, there should be some research to make the veg food more palatable.

We arrived at opening time on a Saturday evening, and were greeted by a cheerful staff. We decided to try the tasting menu, and did not regret the dicision. Though some dishes were more to our liking than others, the overall presentation, wine matching and the choice of ingredients made a wonderful food experience. The atmosphere was calm, and although the evening was fully booked, the noise level was acceptable. I would highly recommend a visit!

Had 11 course meal. Piscaterian course. Was good. Enjoyed the brown crab and John dori. Didn't like the mackerel sushi. On the whole it was a good experience. The rhubarb desert was excellent Would I repeat it? Unlikely. Prefer a simple normal meal for soul satisfaction and value for money. Restaurant was full and it's clearly v popular. I may not be a good person to rate such a restaurant as this kind of meal is not usual for me. Am not a foodie. My foodies friends loved the meal.

We did the full tasting course and the food was really incredible. Michelin star well deserved. Every dish hit the spot and the scallop dish was out of this world. Each one had the right complements and was exciting. We easily spent 2 hours just eating and at the end we were pleasantly surprised to be full. Dishes were well portioned. Truly a treat. Service was a bit rough around the edges but you can tell there is passion and that’s what matters. We also did the non alcoholic pairing, and it matched well.

One of the best places I've ever been to for food and a 10 course menu of food to spoil yourself in. I had the wine pairing and it was brilliant and it matched brilliantly. Absolute stunning dinner last night at this Michelin star awarded restaurant. Everything of the 10 course menu was definitely worth it. From crab to chicken, from mussels to beef, a beautiful variety of tastes in every case. And, of course the warm welcome and service by the whole staff made it an evening to remember. Thank you so much, we'll be back.

Very nice staff. But it would be even better if at least one of them was Norwegian. Or at least had knowledge about the places they told the food came from. Maybe send them on a field trip so it is not so clear that they just have seen the place on a map. Creative and delicious menu, but I think they are afraid of serving raw food. The scallops were overcooked and a bit chewi. The cod was a tad overcooked too, but the taste and combination with citrus was so good that you hardly noticed. I guess this is a one-time accident of the chef and that it will be perfect any other time. The atmosphere in the room was cold. I guess it is supposed to be trendy, but when you are having a long meal with 7 courses. You don't want to sit in a cafeteria on hard chairs. The toilets need an upgrade. I hope the stall doors have been red some time and has been painted white and that the old colour comes through. The alternative is that it is dirty. And hopefully that is not the case.

The resteraunt has a lovely location and interior environment. Friendly staff, but it can be a bit slow in rush hours. We had great experience with the food, and definitely my favorite wine-pairing experience in Norway. Highly recommend!

If you want to try local seafood cooked with beautiful local ingredients eat here! The owner Christopher is lovely which is reflected in his staff. And, the food! If you love seafood and care where it comes from, then this is the place to be. It’s also super relaxed with an interesting decor (I forgot to ask why all the pictures look “in” on the restaurant.) I learnt a lot about food here, and felt looked after without being hovered over. A rare skill in restaurants.

Experience at Lysverket was a mixed bag. Great athmosphere in a cool Nordic decor. We had the 3 course menu - king crab dumplings were exquisite with fresh ingredients; beef as main was disappointing, rather dry and chewy and definitely not up to par in this price class; almond tart was nicely presented but relatively plain with no originality in taste. Wine recommendations were excellent. Service was friendly but waiting time between dishes was much too long, we came in at 9pm, main was served at 11pm, dessert around midnight. My wife was dead-tired by the end and the wait time definitely blemished the overall experience. We’re not the only ones writing about this so there must be some fundamental problems with the process in the kitchen.

Extremely disappointed by the overall experience given the rave reviews, NYT writeup etc. The biggest issues are the a) unevenness of the meal sizes (more on that later) and more importantly, b) unexciting flavour combinations. On a) We went for the 899nok 5-course menu and were served what looked like quarter or half-portions of mains compared to other diners who ordered either ala carte or the three-course menu. If you matched the prices, you're honestly better off just paying full prices ala carte and getting proper dishes versus canape-sized portions. The presentation was uninspiring and half-hearted. Putting a small portion on a big white plate does not a gourmet meal make. It's just a small portion on a plate. Made worse when you look around and notice people getting hearty portions for less (if you worked out the price per unit). Pacing between the dishes was all over the place: for dessert, we had a long-ish wait for the table near us to get served and to finish their mains before we were all served dessert at the same time. On b) The way ingredients were combined was lacking in finesse at times. The scallop dish was paired with tasteless tapioca balls; the steamed plaice was bland and served with blanched kale (edible but boring) and right at the bottom was a dollop of mustard that just completely burnt out the tastebuds and removed what little flavour the plaice had; overall everything was just OK and not on par with what you'd expect of a highly rated restaurant. Perhaps the only consolation was the dessert and the amuse bouche. Both prepared with more finesse and combining ingredients that worked.

A place that can be summarised in one word - disappointing. The food is average and extremely expensive, even by Norwegian standards. You'll be left with both an empty wallet and an empty stomach as the portions are tiny. The service is ok but having done hundreds of Michelin restaurants, this place shows absolutely none of the qualities required to be Michelin recommended.
