Cannot rate this restaurant highly enough. If you are in Bergen, it's a must stop, must eat, must go back again type of place. My server was so kind and patient. She recommended that I get 4 small plates and 1 dessert which I did. The dishes were brought out promptly and great. The dessert was absolutely incredible (if only it were bigger!). The atmosphere is also something not to miss. It's within a historic site in Bryggen. Inside the floors and tables are all slightly slanted due to the age of the building. The interior dining room is cozy without being crowded, and outside you can relax and have a drink if you want. It feels both modern Norwegian with the fare, but classic Norwegian with the atmosphere.

This old and crooked building is full of personality, and in the menu you can find several specialities from Bergen. The food is excellent and the service as well, so this historic restaurant is well worth a visit.

We had a really nice and relaxing dinner at this traditional restaurant in Bergen. First, the ambiance is really amazing. The building is very old, and has been very nicely restored. The rooms are cozy and softly lit at night. The best part of our experience was definitely the service. Our waitress took the time to explain the menu to us and make some recommendations, and she made sure that we were comfortable and happy with every choice from the menu. The food was excellent! We especially enjoyed the stock fish, the marinated smoked salmon, and the traditional fish soup. Prices are a bit high, but we did not feel bad about the bill, because we had such a great experience. They have a huge list of local beers and ciders, and a good wine list, too. We would definitely recommend this restaurant for anyone visiting the area.

Great location in the oldest part of Bergen Bryggen. All in wood, very characteristic. We wanted to try the Norwegian tapas and we were not disappointed. We have tried the reinsdyr tartare, the pink whale, stockfish and the typical mutton sausage. Great tastes. We had also the reinsdyrfilet afterwards, good as-well. We totally recommend for a great food experience.

Our favorite bar/restaurant in Bergen - A hidden gem. Also one of the only places I could find good, local, craft Norwegian beer.

An absolutely brilliant tradition (inspired) Norwegian restaurant in Bergen. The food was extremely high quality and delicious, and the waitress was very friendly and helpful. We had the “Norwegian tapas” and all of them were absolutely delicious, so I highly recommend this option. I believe that the restaurant recommendation of 4-5 per person would make for an immense feast, which is fine if that is what you’re looking for, but we split 4 between 2 people and were both full by then end. The setting was absolutely lovely as well, in such a beautiful old building in the unesco world heritage sight, Bryggen. The atmosphere in the try was wonderful. Finally, prices were of course extremely high by my UK standard, but seemed fair for Norway.

Service and staff was good. We took the smoked pork loin with honey mustard and it was way to much and a very strong mustard. We would recommend that you take something else on the menu unless you like the latter.

We came to this restaurant twice in two days because they have many traditional Norwegian dishes. We tried the Persetorsk which is exceptionally good. We also tried stockfish here as we can’t find other restaurants in Bergen having this dish. It’s not as tasty as Persetorsk though, maybe because it’s dryer by nature thus less juicy, but you get the original stockfish taste. The other dishes we tried were cold dishes: roasted whale, venison pate, marinated lamb filet and reindeer tartar. Trusted me, the lamb filet is a must-try if you like raw meat. The reindeer tartar is exceptionally good already, but the marinated lamb is the best. It is really soft and smooth and the marinate source fuses deeply into the lamb. Note that if you come at lunch time, you can only choose from the lunch menu. There’re not many choices at that time in my opinion. Lastly, the staff are friendly too.

Super nice location. Very nice personnel. On the card the food sounds super good… and some of it was. I had the skagen sandwich, the shrimp was great… but the bread tasted about 5 days old… okay for your own leftovers, but not in a restaurant. My wife had some old tortilla with her herring meal too… bread is so easy to get right, and they have it wrong.

Very interesting historic interior. Generally good food. The service was OK, not great. The tapas are quite expensive. We were surprised that they didn’t have a kids menu. However they adapted when we requested to share meals which was nice.

The Tractorshed was great. We came in one hour shy of dinner at 4:00PM (Dinner's @ 5:00PM). Had a few draft beers and a small amount of Mink Whale and a small Norwegian hot dog. Everyone was friendly and on top of it. We ordered off the dinner menu and all the food was great. Things that were not good, Loud American retires not able to make a decision about what to order then wanting to split the bill up eight ways instead of just paying and settling up later. Load American's, Stop following us everywhere we go and giving the normal Americans a bad name. Just unwind, don't complain, do your own division, and pipe down. We have plenty of time back home to be load and obnoxious. And don't complain. Thank you to the Tractorshed, Charlie & Leinaia

Such an atmospheric old building, even has slanted floors from the building shifting over the centuries. Food is definitely a high quality, fancy spin on traditional Norwegian cuisine. Definitely like fine dining in an old wharf pub. Quite interesting.

Norwegian tapas like dinner in the oldest wooden building in Bergen. We each toke 4 small dishes with typical Norwegian food such as reindeer, whale, skagen en stockfish. All dishes were very tasty. Super friendly English speaking staff. Prices at or little above the Norwegian level. Recommendation.

Our first meal in Bergen was here! Very nice and cozy location. We wanted some Norwegian food, and this place was the right place as it's the oldest restaurant in Bergen! Or so we were told. 😁 they had their Christmas menu out so we had some traditional fare such as the Lutefisk and Pinnekjott. It came with two servings at kr 565. One serving was enough for us so it was not worth the price, come hungry! We tried one tapas, the porked belly wrapped in "lefse," and found it to be a little dry. Also at kr 155 for one street taco size bite I found it pricey. It was suggested to order 1 entree and 2 tapas per person. I think that's quite a lot of food. Overall great location, authentic food, wonderful ambiance and attentive service.

Great find off of the wharf in Bryggen. Small traditional plates done well. Reindeer tartare was excellent. Mackerel "cream" was very good. Lamb meatballs were tasty and tender, verging on mutton taste - plum compote a great accomplishment. Fried cod tongues taste slightly freezer-burnt (stale breadcrumbs?). Veiled peasant girls may be a traditional dessert, but it's not very interesting. Expensive, like all of Norway.

Great traditional food and great waitresses. The atmosphere was really pleasant and we got to try food in small portions (tapas’ style) to be able to taste more plates.

  • 5/5 Garth N. 9 months ago on Google
Great restaurant in the heart of the old town area of Bryggen in Bergen. As well as main course choices, the menu offers tappas-style plates of traditional Norwegian food 'with a twist'. It's a great way to get a taste of a good range of Norwegian food, including "stockfish," which is always on the menu here. Prices are moderate (for Norwegian standards) and the atmosphere is casual. You can come for a meal, a nibble or just a drink. They have a good range of cider, beer and wine.

Amazing service! Our waiter was so informative and really explained how the food and drinks tied to culture and history in Bergen. The restaurant was in a historic building in Bryggen. We loved the cured lamb and lamb meatballs. The main chicken course was savory and delicious. It was tender and fell right off the bone. Our group was mixed on the fish soup because the base was a sour cream- a couple of us loved it, while others were less enthusiastic. The mussels were not in a hot broth, which was different than mussels we were used to. Overall, excellent meal and highly recommend.

Stopped in for lunch with my family whilst browsing the art shops in Bryggen. From the outside I was expecting tourist quality baguettes but was very pleasantly surprised to find delicious elevated Norwegian artisanal cuisine on my plate! I tried a bit of my family's food and it was all amazing. So much flavour, so unique and yet still retaining all the important traits of typical local food. It was very quiet when we were there during the day and also there were a lot of wasps in the garden so we had to come inside, hence only 4 in atmosphere.

We were two. The service was very good and friendly they explained the food, and they made excellent suggestions. The food was beautiful. The atmosphere and the surroundings were relaxing. I did order a cheese board at the end l. But I never got a picture as the other one dived on it.

This is DEFINITELY a place to go if you a visiting Norway. The interior is beautiful and the location is historically situated. We took the tapas of a variety of Norwegian specialities. We ate whale, reindeer, salmon, halibut, etc. The artichoke soup was probably the best, warming and comforting - that was 100% a 5*. The blonde waitress was really nice and professional. The brunette waitress wasn’t that attentive so we were often kept waiting and she could have presented the food a little better (orientation on the table and explaining the food before we asked). If the brunette was more “tuned in” then I’d give a 5*. Probably just a summer job so I don’t want it to put anyone off visiting here. Just a helpful reminder for waitresses to really observe their clientele. Finally the cheese selection- you get to taste the WORLD’s best cheese (no joke - it won the award in 2016) and it’s truly good. Of course you haven’t tasted half of Norway if you have been here but it’s a great start.
