Nice staff, but the food was pretty disappointing considering the high price. The first dish was a tasteless apple soup with smoked sour cream. Didn't taste like much and took a long time before we got the food considering how simplistic it was. After that we were served pollock, naan and grilled asparagus. The pollock was pretty good though a little basic the naan was for the most part good but some pieces were pretty burnt and the asparagus was really good probably the best of the food served there. Next we got entrecote. It was too well done and very chewy. The potato's that came with were good but too salty. And lastly the desert a rhubarb crumble with a tiny squirt of meringue was far to sour and didn't balance any flavors at all. In short everything was pretty lackluster compared to other restaurants in Bergen like colonialen

Great little restaurant, a gem among the other restaurants in fisketorget. Due to the small size, reservations may be necessary for a good place. I ordered a grilled fish dish which was phenomenal. The portion was a good size, and there were alot of vegetables on the plate. The flavors are simple but play fantastically together. You could also watch the food being done right there and then. The service is one of the nicest out there, always there to help. Only minus is there was little choice.

Last week, I dined at Allmuen for its Sunday dinner event called AFC (Allmuen Fried Chicken). I was disappointed. I left still hungry. And I should’ve not been surprised (I’ll get to that in a moment). Also, I will give some advice at the end. I was both disappointed and hungry because the portions were tiny. For 190 kroner I was served 5 pieces of winglets, about 150ml of broccokål, and a dollop of diggs/sauce (which was just Sriracha mixed with brown sugar). I overheard a man at the next table asking the waitress, “What is so special about you serving us (a group of 10) a bucket of chicken?” The waitress tried her best to make the menu sound appetizing, but you could tell by the man’s face that he was going to be disappointed and the price doesn’t justify a “bucket of chicken”. So, why should’ve not been surprised? If I wanted good, fried chicken, then I should’ve made it at home. I am African-American. Fried chicken was served as a home cooked meal growing up. But I went to Allmuen because I want to give them a chance. If the chefs of Allmuen are reading this, here is my advice: 1. If you do this event again, either increase the portion or add something in addition to the menu. For example, you can add mashed potatoes (without gravy) and a side of corn. It doesn’t take much to boil a bunch of potatoes and mash them. 2. Instead of tiny chicken winglets, perhaps fried chicken breasts (filet). 3. Not about the food: One of the kitchen guys (thin framed with tattoos), has a girlfriend that keeps on coming in and out of the kitchen. They are making out, and she does not work at Allmuen. It is an open kitchen which means the customers can see what is going on. And for hygienic reasons, that should not be happening in the kitchen! I question whether he washes his hands after making out with and touching the girlfriend. That’s a FYI.

We were a party of 10, including a one-year old, which was no problem for the restaurant staff. We all ordered individual entrées from the menu. Creative selections. Very un-Norwegian, at least from a traditional perspective. I chose the vegetarian main dish, which was outstanding, especially the mushrooms. Everyone reported their dishes as excellent. I'd describe the ambience as urban international. Very busy place. We had a lovely patient waitress, who spoke superb English for the non-Norwegian speakers in the group. Baby boy was intrigued with her florid arm tattoos. The restaurant has big picture windows looking out on a street leading onto Bergen's main square, Torgallmenningen. Big colorful abstract paintings adorn the walls. Tasteful music was played on the speakers. A bit pricey, but this is Norway, after-all. Highly recommend!

We tried the 3 course Chef's tasting menu and were pleasantly surprised by the flavours, quality, quantity and presentation of the food. Starters were turnips, sharing plates were cod and dill fishcakes, grilled cod and cauliflower and dessert was raspberry sorbet. Service was great too. Nice ambience inside and not very busy.
