Very interesting set of dishes on the tasting menu. We tried the 8 courses which was 1200 NOK each. The courses were all quite varied, with some unexpected combinations; some hot, some cold, all were very tasty, and some were excellent. Staff were pleasant. My one recommendation would be to have a half wine tasting, as an alternative option for people who want to drink a bit less. Overall though, great experience that I would recommend.

Disappointing... Gazpacho was quite dull, scallops cold inside and too bold on vinigar, veal overcooked and overworked with very salty sauce. Visited this place before, was much better then. Hopefully it makes it back to be a fine dining experience again one day.

We had the five course meal, which was phenomenal and a perfect amount of food...you will not leave hungry. To be honest, I was full after the third course. The ambiance and level of service was very satisfying. The waitress was tentative and knowledgable about all the dishes and provided wine recommendations for every dish. We received at least four free appetizers/treats throughout the experience. Dishes comprised of all locally sourced shellfish, fish, chicken, cheese, and dessert. Don't let the negative reviews fool you...this is a carefully orchestrated dining experience, and as a result of the careful planning, the cost is high and the time to freshly prepare each of your courses takes some time. This is expected for this type of experience. We had a lovely 3 hours exploring this culinary adventure.

Original but not so good. We went to this restaurant on a friday night and ordered the 8-courses menu. Although the plates were very original, and we could sense that the chef was trying to let us experience new and elaborate cuisine, the result was unfortunately disappointing. The main problem was the fact that most of the plates were not balanced in term of taste. There were too many ingredients which didn't mix well altogether, often resulting in a asymbiotic taste, with one (strong) ingredient altering the taste and quality of the rest of the ingredients in an unpleasant manner. This was often the case with the sauces, which instead of adding an interesting and pleasant colour to the plates, did not integrate well with the very good quality of the local ingredients (cooked with many interesting and diverse techniques) and reduced the potential of many plates (special mention to the veal/anchovy sauce with the beef or the plum sauce with the crab which, in my opinion, completely destroyed the initial good taste of the two courses). Some other ingredients, known to be rare and/or delicate (caviar, truffles, scallops, crab) were not enhanced enough but rather hindered, disappointing our expectations. Some plates were still quite good and we really enjoyed them, like the reindeer, the salmon, the hallibut and the dessert. However none of them were unforgettable. The service was ok. The personel had good knowledge of the menu and its ingredients, spoke many languages and interacted with us in a enjoyable manner. However this was not a perfect type of service: some of them had dirty fingernails, which is quite unpleasant to see when knowing that they will serve our food. Some of our requests (wine types on the menu, bread at a certain point in the evening,...) were not available. We were a group of 7 people and not even a little digestive was offered at the end of our meal (which is not at all a requirement but can contribute to make the client feel special, which is not how we felt in this restaurant). Finally the price: it's too much for the quality of the food and the service experienced. We have eaten in other restaurants with far better food, for the same price or even less. We have to say that we are not from Norway, and if like us you come from abroad you may have experienced the pricey lifestyle of this country. But even when taking this matter into consideration, the price is too high for the experience offered here. To finish on a positive note, the presentation (i.e. dressage) of the plates was exquisite. All of them were very beautiful, a real pleasure to watch ! Overall, we won't come back. If I had to give one advice to the chef: the more is not always the better and balance is the key. Please consider other restaurants if you are looking for elaborate/ gastronomic cuisine in Bergen. In 1877, you may easily be disappointed: it's not so bad but it's not so good, defnitely not amazing!

Book your dinner reservation here now - you won't regret it. Every single dish was fantastic - unique flavors and creations! Also the service is wonderful. Gedas was very kind and fun - he even made a unique and delicious mocktail for us!

We had an 8-course dinner and were so very overwhelmed by the quality and taste of each course. Really, each one was a highlight and a true gourmet expedition worth the price. They also have a very good wine card and the waiters are very polite and helpful. Honestly spoken, this was maybe the best food I’ve ever had. And I visited some Michelin star restaurants in my life during travelling in 85 different countries. If I ever will come back to Bergen, I know where to book a table.

One of the best meals we have ever had (and that is saying a lot). The five-course meal was inventive, delicious, and very pleasing to the eye (they also have an eight course meal!!!). The service was top-notch. We added a wine pairing to our courses and were not disappointed - except for the one and only red wine selection. Definitely a must in Bergen. Helpful Hint: Have dinner and then take an evening stroll along the water. Bergen is beautiful at night.

Fantastic dining experience in a beautiful location. Our full-course menu had eight perfectly executed dishes with unique flavors and lots of creativity. Fine dining at its best! No flashy ingredients, just high quality produce and seafood from the region. They should be high on the list for future Michelin stars. Highly recommended.

(Translated by Google) Ten points for service. Ten points for locals. One point for the food. No, wait a minute ... MINUS points for the food ☝️ The food was so unlikely special, and much of the food did not even swallow. Two of the dishes had an unlikely special odor that prevented the brain from cooperating, and it ended up forcibly eating against the brain's will. The chef has taken TOTALLY off in an effort to stand out. He can hardly have tasted the dishes when he put together the flavors he has chosen. Even the dessert was horrid - it tasted sour goat's milk. Sorry to 1877 who is known for his good food. This did not suit us. We went home and ate pizza afterwards, which was very boring as we almost had to clear the account after a visit to 1877. I can give you 1877 reasons NOT to eat here .... (Original) Ti poeng for service. Ti poeng for lokale. Ett poeng for maten.

Greatest food experience in Bergen - no discussion!!! The menu, the flavours, the service, the wine package designated to each dish, just wow, the best atmosphere you can imagine, still being quite chill and not noisy or any fuzz with dancing staff. This is a 6 out of 5 stars!

Fantastic dinner experience. Not for the faint hearted though, lasting a good 3 hours of sumptuous dining. Either come hungry or skip the bread entirely. With every dish comes a new adventure. To taste the individual components, then mix and match the various combinations to discover a whole new palate altogether. The sou vide chicken breast with blackened garlic was the best in my opinion. Soft and tender yet flavorful with each bite. Totally unexpected. I would advice separating the bacon from the fish dish though. The bacon annoyingly overpowers the mild and pleasant taste of the lightly baked halibut and sou vide/onsen egg.

We had an incredible time at 1877, not only did we get an amazing 5 course meal, but we also got to try different types of starters for free (as in we didn't expect to get it). The service was amazing, best we've ever had in Bergen, we loved that the chefs themselves came out and explained each dish.

One of the best meals I have had in a long time. The food was spectacular and the service was excellent. No complaint at all. Would go back every night if their tasting menu changed nightly. Highly recommend.

One, if not the best meal I have ever eaten. Great concept, 5 courses, served to you, not chosen. The young chef even made potatoes into an amazing taste experience. The surroundings are nice, not over the top, I would describe it as comfortable and relaxed. The only slight low point was unfortunately the lady who greated us initially and then took our payment. She was very transactional in her dealings with us, no real warmth. We were not treated as valued guests. Maybe this is the Nordic way ?. This is an expensive restaurant and in my opinion, need to think about the customer service element as well as the quality of the food. After we paid, we were handed our coats at the table, and she then just walked off and went behind the bar. Its a small thing, but it would have been nice to have been shown out, and maybe a thank you or something, or I hope you enjoyed your meal etc but nothing. You have paid, thats it, my job is finished. So, great food, treat yourself, but do not expect a warm welcome and attentive service.

Exquisite experience - we had the 8 course tasting menu with wine pairings and would highly recommend it if you are in Bergen! The dishes were delicious and varied with great flavours and the wine pairings went really well with each dish. We were served by Henny and she was very friendly, welcoming and knowledgable and able to answer any question we posed. Some dishes were bold and challenging and others light and uplifting and this lead to a very great dining experience. As with all tasting menus you won't enjoy every dish but what is imporant is appreciating what the chefs have created. The menu changes often and if we are ever to return to Bergen we would definitely return. This is a must do to any tourist who enjoys a fine dining experience, the atmosphere is great the service incredibly friendly and the surroundings are interesting. Make this part of your must do list! We also had the best scallops dish we've ever had - and we try a scallop dish whenever we are given the chance!

The blackened chicken was very good. Rice and veggies ok. To order you have to go to the bar or use a QR code, we had difficulty using the online system. It was a little challenging to get a servers attention. Nice patio. Busy, popular place.

4.5 stars! What a lovely dinner under the bright night skies of Bergen. Restaurant 1877 focuses on using local produce to deliver a Norwegian-esque menu. The restaurant had an antique yet modern vibe, food was lovely and portion size was pretty on point; we were full but not stuffed from the 5 course meal. The dishes were all plated so pretty and honestly, everything was truly tasty. The standout dish for me was the final dessert - potato, sour cream, black currants and brown butter. Yum and who knew potatoes belong in the dessert family?!

A bit overcomplicated for my personal taste. They can definetly cook here and overall we had some nice courses with good flavours. What I didn't like was some odd combinations like king crab and mango?! Why would you combine such a fine delicate ingredient like king crab from the cold waters of Norway, with some tropical fruit imported from across the world? Also the Hake (Lysing) was served with an overpowering Bernaise-like sauce (there is a reason why the French serve Hollandaise/Beurre blanc for fish and Bernaise for meat). In my opinion they need to simple it down and stick to fewer and only local ingredients and be more selective about what they combine.

I have to say. We really enjoyed this meal. The experience was excellent. We had the 5 course meal with what they called a drinks package. That's too say each course was accompanied by a drink from wine to beer! The food was excellent. Each course was presented and explained in detail as well as the drink that was served. Overall the experience was highly positive. It was expensive but we booked months in advance and saved. Everything in Norway is expensive so don't complain.... You know this already!

(Translated by Google) Always been happy in 1877, but the Afternoon Tea concept did not live up to expectations. Little food without character where the good tastes disappeared in too much loaf. And four "pieces" with sandwiches plus some sweet food (scones) and tea / coffee do not justify a price of NOK 499 per person. But salute to the friendly staff and premises with soul :-) (Original) Alltid vært fornøyd på 1877, men konseptet Afternoon Tea svarte ikke til forventningene. (Translated by Google) The night we went there was no choice, only a tasting menu with 3 or 5 courses. Very new cuisine: the presentation counts as much as the content of the plate. It is therefore a question of tasting and not of stuffing yourself. With each dish, the server takes a long time to explain everything, to detail everything that it brings you. The dining room where we were was very noisy; we couldn't hear each other speak. It's a big problem. Difficult to have a good time in these conditions.
