Stopped scrolling through countless Google Maps recommendations and chose this cute little pub. Hearty and delicious food. Pricier than fast food but so worth it. Go for the fish pie and artichoke soup.

Great place for having some lunch/dinner and/or some beer. The food is very good, they have Norwegian dishes with very good prices. They also offer you a wide amount of beers. Moreover, the people is very nice :) This place is a MUST when you are in Bergen.

We enjoyed a delicious meal while visiting Bergen here. Make sure to make a reservation ahead of time, because this spot is popular! I deducted a star because we waited an hour for our food, and we were very hungry.

Very good local and homemade food - simply delicious and the atmosphere was awesome. We had the meatballs and fish pie along with a plum dessert.

Norwegian comfort food at its finest. Plukkfisk if you're trying to decide! It's like mashed potatoes with fish and bacon - doesn't that sound delicious and homey to you?!

This place offers delicious local dishes. I personally ordered the deer casserole, which was really tasty. The food is well presented and the wait is not long. The waiters were nice and always smiling. That said, the restaurant is small and quite noisy, and the table we had looked more like a camping table than a restaurant table. In a nutshell, I do recommend that restaurant because traditional norvegian cooking is not always easy to find, and it was really savourous.

Make a reservation but enjoy very traditional but well-made Norwegian food and actually at reasonable prices for Bergen. Loved the gingerbread dessert.

Great selection of local beers and tasty dishes in a cool environment. Finally I was able to taste some norvegian staples and the cod with mashes potatoes, carrots and bacon was good, I enjoyed it. Prices are just fine, I think I'll come back here to try the meat dishes too.

Real Norwegian food (includes cod, reindeer for example) for good prices. I love the atmosphere of this place. Locals often eat and drink here. At first we were a little confused about how to order, but you scan the QR code, you put what you want in the page and then you paid via the webpage. All the service was nice.

Been here in early July. We ordered the typical meatballs with vegetables and the whale with vegetables. Actually meatballs didn’t convinced me so much, whereas we were both surprisingly amazed by the meat whale. The vegetables were fine. The service was good. The bill was a bit high but we knew what we had to pay as the prices were shown clearly in the menu. It’s a typical Norwegian restaurant. I recommend it but actually not so much for the meatballs 😊

Nice beer selection. Food was pretty bland. Reindeer sausage and meatballs were pretty dry.

Nice little pub with a variety of local craft beer and very tasty local food (luckily not typical pub food like fries and BBQ). Great bar tender and nice atmosphere. Prices are reasonable (for Norway)

After not being able to accommodate our reservation the night prior because of an early kitchen closure, the restaurant made right by the situation the next night with a fantastic meal. Warm and friendly service, playful variations on traditional Norwegian classics and a great selection of local craft beers and wine. Highly recommend if you find yourself in Bergen!

  • 5/5 Nathaniel P. 1 year ago on Google
High quality and unpretentious, this is easily the best place to eat in Bergen. I went back twice for the stew, tender cured lamb and a thoughtful mix of root vegetables perfectly cooked. The beer-cured deer was also unique and delicious, there is clearly talent in the kitchen. Friendly staff and a great drink selection.

Cute little authentic pub, a must-try for Norwegian specialties. Some dish may sound old-fashioned but everything we tried matched our expectations, although I wouldn’t call it fine cuisine. Limited amount of tables so would recommend to book in advance otherwise you may have to eat at the bar.

  • 5/5 Nik M. 5 months ago on Google
Book ahead if you want to dine here but the traditional Norwegian comfort food they specialise in is fantastic. The meatballs were to die for as was the stew. Great range of local beers complimented the food perfectly.

This food was amazing, some of the best food we had in Norway. The woman let me use her phone to call our accommodation for the next day which was very kind of her. Very very glad we came here! Great place to stop for a beautiful lunch or dinner.

We arrived at the restaurant with a group of eight, we didn't expect them to be able to seat us because it is a small restaurant. But to our surprise there was a table free and it seated exactly 8 people, the waiter told us this normally doesn't happen but we were lucky. I had the pan seared cod and I absolutely loved it, but somebody in our group had the potato dumplings and didn't really like it but tased my fish and instantly love the fish. The waiters were very nice.

Terrific final meal for our Scandinavia trip. Great authentic food and the atmosphere was really great. You definitely need a reservation, but it is worth it. They had great beer options and the food was delicious. The meatballs were great but the wolffish was my favorite. Great food in Bergen.

Food is delicious, staff is kind. It's like a small cool little pub. Many people visit, I would recommend to book a table. We did the same and came back the next day.

A place recommended by my host. I got to try Norwegian cuisine. I’m personally not a fan of Norwegian food so much, but food wise it’s fine and a nice pub!

  • 4/5 Diogo S. 7 months ago on Google
Really decent restaurant, with nice atmosphere. The staff was super nice and helpful. Food was just decent but it tasty. Would give a 6 or 7 out of 10 but maybe more if i was to evaluate quality /price ratio! For Norwegian bites, that aren't incredibly expensive, i would recommend this place

  • 5/5 Bel 1 year ago on Google
We had the Raspeballer and Fish Pie as mains. Both were delicious. We like that the dishes were not drenched in sauces. We also had the Hansa Mango beer which we recommend as well. The restaurant is popular so do book in advance.

  • 5/5 Nico M. 10 months ago on Google
Delicious Norwegian food at reasonable Norwegian prices. We were recommended this restaurant by the tourism office and thought we’d check it out. I had a stew for starter to warm myself up from the rain outside and then this was followed by whale steak. I was somewhat doubtful but it tastes like a regular steak just a bit stronger in flavour. Local beer served also in this casual bistrot-style restaurant. Paid 820 NOK (60£) for two which seemed very reasonable.

  • 5/5 Patrick P. 9 months ago on Google
Tasty food and beer, had the minkie whale and the meat balls and it tasted very good. Since the place is rather small you might face longer waiting times. Nevertheless the staff is friendly even under stress. The place was a recommendation from a local and is worth a revisit!

  • 4/5 Bartosz B. 9 months ago on Google
Small Gastropub with simple, yet satisfying menu, consisting of mainly local flavors like deer, whale, etc. and quite extensive selection of alcoholic beverages, especially beer selection is worth mentioning. Efficient service, food is served rather fast and tastes good.

  • 5/5 Amy P. 9 months ago on Google
We were in Bergen for a few days and wanted to find a place off the beaten path to eat some authentic Norwegian food. This restaurant was recommended to us by a local person. We were able to walk from our hotel near the Bryggen. The food did not disappoint. Definitely recommend!

  • 4/5 Esther 10 months ago on Google
It’s a small place with reservations taken up quickly. We dropped by for an early dinner at 5pm (super off-peak). The shrimp salad is delightful. The fish was cooked well and the green purée (i think it’s broccoli) complement well. The bed of root vegetables the came under the pan seared fish was proportionally too much leaving me no stomach space for dessert 😅.

We stopped by Pingvinen for lunch and ordered the whale steak, fish cake sandwich, and smoked halibut. All three dishes were delicious. The place wasn't too crowded during lunch and we had a pleasant meal.

  • 5/5 J R. 1 year ago on Google
Multiple gluten free or gluten reduced beer options on tap, plus several options for gluten free food on the menu. The whale steak was phenomenal- tender and well seasoned. Fun food with some Norwegian-native flare.

  • 5/5 Riccardo C. 3 years ago on Google
Overall, good experience at Pingvinen. We were recommended this place cause we wanted to get some traditional Norwegian food and this sounded like a good match. Unfortunately, the plukkfisk was sold out but we still enjoyed so much the røgtetorsk (smoked cod). The head chef came to our table to answer our doubts (as we were trying to figure out what to take as an alternative) and she's been super keen to help, that was highly appreciated. A minor comment on the bartender, who looked a bit careless when, once we got in, we asked him about the menu, and he just pointed out it was written on the wall (in Norwegian), despite he realized we were foreigners and needed a bit of guidance.

This nice pub is in a central location and serves good norwegian food with a limited selection of wines and beers. We had a Lapskaus and a Reindeer stew with 2 glasses of wine and a cheesecake dessert. The food was ok, nothing special to be honest, but the dessert was nice. We spent around 65 €, which is a lot but in line with the prices in Norway. The kitchen closes at 10 pm.

Nice indie lunch/bar. Retro interior with table and bar seating. Guests mainly hip locals. Menu has Norwegian open faced sandwiches, soups stews and vegan options. Drink menu has great variety of beers. Visited for a late Sunday lunch. Food quality and taste was good. Staff were friendly and prices quite reasonable for Norwegian standards.

Awesome Norwegian food! I highly recommend this restaurant, you won't be disappointed. It is located within walking distance of centre of Bergen, near most of the hotels. Don't pass this place down! The food was delicious and arrived quickly! The service was great as well!

Excellent for what we were expecting. Authentic Norwegian food. A fun and casual restaurant to taste the flavors of Norway. Menu selections include beers with more than 4.5 percent alcohol. Had the Norwegian cheese sampler, 🥕 soup, reindeer plate and fish pie.

I keep her for a quick bite, and I found this restaurant very adorable. The decor and ambiance are cozy and cute. The food and things are reasonably price. I had a Prosecco (99 krona, par with everywhere else) and I ordered this fish and mashed potatoes dish that had bacon and flat unleavened bread. The portion was huge! And it was a bit greasy and too buttery for my taste, but it’s worth checking out.

Our first Norwegian meal. We got the moose and fish cake and both were good. We enjoyed he moose more. This was our first time eating both dishes so we don't have much to compare to, but the portions were great and we ate it all up.

  • 4/5 Guus G. 4 years ago on Google
Nice pub If you want something in between fancy dining and a fast food restaurant. The selection isn't large but what they have is good (at least the two meals we tried). We thought the drinks were expensive but when we got them the glasses were a lot larger than we are used to.

  • 5/5 Felipe N. 4 years ago on Google
We came to this place after a recommendation for local food and were not disappointed. We didn't make a reservation and they got us a tall seats table in the corner. The place was full and everyone seemed to be having a good time. The place is also popular with local beers. We had some cheese and cured moose and the later was a surprise for us. Everything was good. Fish was fresh, meatballs well seasoned and the wine good too. Great atmosphere and lovely staff. If you want local food and beer, this place is a must.

Great Norwegian comfort food. Well sized portions and very reasonably priced. We had the meatballs and the hake and were both very satisfied. I really enjoyed the hake (Lysing) with the nicely cooked fresh vegetables! Great cook. Will definetly come back to this place if I visit Bergen again. Greetings from Denmark.

Great variety of wines and ales. I wish they sold mead too, but it's uncommon to find it, even in Bergen. Delicious food. I ate reindeer for the first time ever here. Cosy atmosphere. Great location. Friendly staff.

Due to hardcore anti-corona actions in Germany I haven't been allowed to linger at a bar -- since -- month??!!?? (Had to keep 2m distance to the bar keeper which is obviously not possible in this constelation) I'm lovin' it. 😭😭😭 Will never go away 😭😭😭 just give me one more beer 😭😭😭 Here it feels like home 🌞🌞🌞🕺 (Sorry for getting to emotional) Wunderfull nice pub. The service is not the quikest but really ok. Regarding the food: Had the thursday special. I have to admit that as an Bavarian I have had a different understanding of potato dumplings 😬 where is the gravy??? Anyway. A BAR!!!! 😭😭😭😭
