One of the best and most authentic attractions in Bergen. An open air museum, a glimpse in the 1700s' Bergen life. You can wander around, but it's worth to pay the ticket which will grant you visiting some of the houses, such as a true dentist's house, bakery, pharmacy, sea captain's house, beauty salon, and more. There are also actors to make it more authentic, telling you stories of the time. 15 min by bus or 45 min walk from the city center. A very special place, definitely recommend.

Extremely interesting experience that brought us back in time. Beautiful houses and furniture. Amazing actors and great role plays; at a certain point felt that time stopped back. Touched by the feeling of simplicity, beauty and authenticity of this period. Highly recommend to visit

Amazing place, the actors are pretty good, the houses well preserved. The perfect way to see how the Norwegians leaves during the 1700s - 1800s - 1900s.

Beautiful outdoor museum in Bergen. Perfect for those who want to see what some of the old-fashioned buildings in Norway were like. Overall just a nice place to see. Though I visited in the rain, it was still a wonderful experience

A must if you visit Bergen. The oldtown is an outdoor museum and was rebuild and shows very detailed how life was in the past. Actors give small insides about the daily life in old Bergen. The coffeshop in one of old houses offers coffee and cake and invites to rest from a interesting tour during the past.

This is easily reached from central Bergen by bus in around 20 minutes. What you'll find is a kind of living museum with buildings of old Bergen arranged in a village, populated by a few actors. They are keen to answer your questions or just talk to you while in character. They also put on a fun little performance around midday. This museum is included on the Bergen card (100% discount) and is well worth the trip. On a good day, you probably get lovely views along the coast but my wife and I visited when it was very rainy. There is a cafe/restaurant on site, but it didn't appear to be open when we visited. There are two toilets and a small gift shop.

It have the old houses and establishments during the old days of Bergen. Just like a little town with authentic buildings. They have actors and actresses around the museum that depicts the old Bergen people way of life. A really must visit place.

Highly recommend the English tour if you plan to visit. You can get into some locked houses.

Gamle Bergen brings history to life. It is a great place with a lot to discover. The actors are entertaining and really knowledgeable. You can enter the houses and talk to the inhabitants, who will tell you whatever you want to know about Bergens' cultural inheritance.

Very pleasant visit. A short bus trip from Bergen centre means it isn't crammed with tourists. Really enjoyed my visit. Lovely, friendly staff.

Nice place, a lovely park to walk and view to the bay. A ticket is only needed if you want to visit the old houses, which are lovely too with decorations from the old times. The recreational actors act/talk like the old times, which completes the whole atmosphere and makes you feel like you travelled in time.

Very nice rebuild of the old Bergen city. Actors play every hour some scenes of the historical life there

A beautiful setting, will be difficult for those with mobility issues. The museum itself was fine, but it is not one of the more interesting museums in Bergen.

We enjoyed our time there visiting each house. There were some actors in some of the houses, role playing, showing you around the house, bringing you back in time. There was also a short play at the square which was nice.

We had a really good time visiting this museum, and not only because of all the representations they had from the past, but also because of the two performances the museums actors and actresses we got to see. Very kind staff also.

Very interesting. You can see all the trade routes that Bergen participated. There are a lot artifacts not just from Norway but also other cultures that traded with or controlled Bergen. I enjoyed the exhibit of runes that were inscribed on items and the translations.

A historical recovery of old local life stile. Well reconstructed. The most interesting building was the "house of the dentist" with those aged dental chairs and "drilling" solutions.

This old-timey attraction is easily accessible by bus and entry is free with the Bergen travel card. It was very interesting to get a glimpse of life back in the day. We got to chat with one of the inhabitants of the house. He had a very nice living room, although shame his wife wasn’t around to play the piano for us. There was a bit of a dramatic scene at the town square. A lady who was going to get married needed to visit the dentist, but she was very unwilling. It must’ve been painful, as she came running out the dentist’s office with a bloody handkerchief. Oh dear.

It is an excellent visit to stop the time and think and live the experience of how Norwegians lived before in 1700, 1800 and 1900. You can enjoy the wooden buildings that are original and conserved, the actors with costumes around and theatrical performances.

Little piece of old Bergen. Beautiful place. Free access during winter.

Very interesting and authentically set out. The actors were very good and their English was good. However, this is not a wheelchair friendly museum. Steep cobbled Street (slippery in wet), gravel pathways and high steps to access the houses.

A must see in Bergen. Afaik this is one of the few Museum allowing you to explore the houses and touch things as much as possible. Really interactive. I've found the actors really good, in particular the merchant one! Really appreciated!
