Loved learning about the history of the vikings and trade shipping of Norway. We came here specially because we wanted to learn about the vikings The burial of a Viking movie was super fascinating and delivered what we were after. Perfect activity to do while its snowing outside and you want to escape the weather for a bit.

Very clean, well layed-out museum featuring model boats, photos, videos, boats and information about Norway's maritime life. Interesting, quiet and thoughtful.

Suitable for toddlers.. Consist two floors of various ship remains and information about modern day ships. Theatre plays Vikings burial ships movie continuously. Can easily spend two hours. Don't miss their "Rat Hunt" activity. :) Drawing desk for children and lockers available.

Unfortunately I didn’t think much of this museum. Given the incredibly rich maritime history of the area I had hoped to see more exhibits but it is mostly models of old ships, photos and paintings. If you are a real maritime history enthusiast it is probably ok but for a tourist with just a general interest there are better places to visit such as the Fram and Kontiki museums in Oslo.

Ok museum but with not much detailed information about the different ships and ship owners. Easy walk through of facility and a good cruise section.

A nice experience in this museum when you can learn - in norwegian or in english be aware - a lot about the history of the conquest of the sea by Norway ! We can appreciate the description of the evolution of technologies of the boats in link with the economics links of norway with the world or the influence of some war between european countries, that have take place on the sea or oceans.

The Viking video was very interesting and so were the Viking boat models. But the Viking era was a very small part of the museum and I guess I hoped there was a little more of that. But it was nice to spend an hour or two during the rain.

Really interesting place to visit with kids! And also the adults will enjoy it as well. It’s full of knowledge and really hyper realistic stuff! The first floor like when you enter it’s for geology and human, little bit of sea information but the second floor is where the most animals are 😍 Also the ground floor is where you can put your jacket and personal stuff in a small closet.

This was an interesting museum visit. We were relieved that the staff warned us at the ticket desk about the film because it was interesting on Viking burials, but does contain some adult themes that we didn't let our eleven year old see. The rest of the museum was variable. Some exhibits provided detailed interpretive material, but some did not.

A must visit in Bergen city! Tickets are 12€ for adults, free for children until 17

  • 2/5 Thom L. 1 year ago on Google
Museum with dated presentation style. The film/exhibition about Viking burials which was recommended at the ticket counter was unfortunately not available. Furthermore, many (modern) models of ships with an interesting story here and there and relatively few actual historical pieces.

  • 4/5 Phil H. 6 years ago on Google
Lots of models of boats! Not the most modern museum, but there's a replica of a Viking ship and a good area for children to play in.

  • 5/5 Urszula J. 1 year ago on Google
Really simple and small but also informative and interesting museum that covers all of Bergens marine history, from the Vikings to present day. Seeing the entire exhibition will probably take you 60-90 min.

  • 3/5 Ofir K. 4 years ago on Google
Not too impressive or intersting, unless you are a real enthusiast. If you have a Bergen Card and an hour, fine. If not, you might find it a waste of tome and money.

Great museum throwing a light on Bergen's commercial shipping culture the types of boats and vessels, the life of sailors and their families. There are some interesting usage of oil spills to pacify the waves or the usage of artefacts by the family to indicate the presence or absence of the sailors.

  • 5/5 Zuzia B. 8 months ago on Google
Very interesting. Beautiful models of ships, some are small, but there are also boats of original size. You start in the area of viking boats, you go through steamers, and you finish in the modern cruisers.

  • 5/5 TheGame 8 months ago on Google
Loved this museum. Not too big not too small. It walked me through the whole history of Bergen's/Norway's navy and maritime technology. All the way from the Vikings, to when Norway discovered oil. Many models of ships could be looked at, and even som larger ships were present. Many real artifacts and other details were present. Really recommend this museum for any maritime lover!!

(Translated by Google) Nice museum for those who know a little about boats or like to look at different boats. The museum also tells a little about the boat's history in Norway. The exhibition is a bit uneducative, so the museum is best experienced with a guide. (Original) Fint museum for dem som kan litt om båter eller liker å titte på forskjellige båter.
