What a lovely place. Very good gift shop with things from museum. In museum is very good atmosphere. Everything is dark and you can see only exhibition. We were not disturbed by other visitors or other parts of the museum in that “dark”. They got lot of things to see and learn. Beautiful old artifacts. And on second floor is museum of Bergen football team. So if you are interested in football, you are welcome.

If you love unique small museums, you’ll love this as much as I did! We walked into here to kill some time and had one of the best and most memorable experiences in Bergen. We did a tour (it was just the two of us!) and learned so much about Runes, it was genuinely very interesting and inspiring. I highly recommend the tour to give some context around everything in the museum. They also have a really beautiful museum shop to pick up many unique souvenirs!

One of the best museums I've visited recently. Focuses on medieval Bergen, with an archaeological focus. Well presented items with good information and interpretation. Contains one of the largest collections of "rune sticks" in the world. Not the largest museum and maybe a bit dull for children. Currently 140nok, or about £10. Great if you want to get out of the rain for a couple of hours.

We had a great time visiting the Bryggen Museum. It is well laid out and very informative with lots to see. We especially liked the Runes table. We got in for free with the Bergen card.

Small- to medium-sized archeological museum with artifacts from, I believe, the 1100s to about 1600s from the local area. Also includes an actual dig site of the old buildings. I liked the combs, rune sticks, and textile artifacts, especially the ball of yarn from around the 1500s. Also enjoyed the items found in the old toilet. Would like to see better signage on the exhibits. I used my camera to take a photo, then read about the items from my photo. Enjoyed this museum very much.

I enjoyed this more than what I thought. There was a lot of artefacts and a good display on the number of times the buildings had been set on fire. It isn't great for kids, but if you have the Bergen pass, it is definitely worth a visit. You can get through it in 60 minutes but could do a really fast visit in a little over 30 of pressed for time.

05/08 A very lovely museum if you appreciate archaeology or history. Had a wonderful experience here discovering more about the history of Bryggen. The staff are super friendly, professional, and resourceful. Johann is an amazing person who I got the chance to speak with about archaeological finds. Very knowledgeable, and fun to discuss with. x I had also purchased the Bergen pass which makes it more efficient as you can experience the museum and the exhibits as many times as you want.

I spent my time here in the Below Ground exhibition of artifacts found after the fire in 1955. Lots of excellent displays and the highlight has to be the translations of the rune sticks, which demonstrate that even centuries ago people wrote the same sort of things on bathroom walls, only their walls were the sticks! 😂

It's mostly a collection of everyday objects found during archeological digs. The presentation is very well done, with information displayed for almost all items as well as some general stories about the history of Bryggen to give context. Recommended if you're into history, perhaps not worth it otherwise.

Best museum we’ve seen in Norway. Fascinating to learn about the many layers of Bergen over the centuries. The interpretation signs were so compelling.. each one made us think and continue to reflect on what we saw. It was exciting to visit such a great museum.

If you like Bergen i assure you, you'll love the history of Bergen. The guide there is extremely good at explaining everything so you understand the whole story of Bergen (Bjørgvin). If you haven't been here I insist that you visit at least once.

This will be a good museum when they finish renovations. For now, it was very poor value for money as none of the exhibits have labels yet and the main highlight - medieval foundations, where closed to the public.

A nice museum. I had expected something more and more exciting exhibits. On the second floor there is the history of the soccer club Brann to see - in connection with the history of Bergen. A nice idea, but unfortunately I am not a soccer fan....

Fascinating museum well presented. With excavations inside showing the history of the city and its fires and rebuild and changes over the centuries. Who lived there and what they did. Worth a visit.

We stumbled across the museum while talking back from Bryggen, and wandered in. Thw entrance fee was reasonable and the museum was interesting. I would definitely recommend it to anyone in the area. Norwegian and English annotations on all artefacts.

History of the area downstairs, other exhibitions upstairs. Some are a little out of date, but offer a quick introduction to the area and customs. Coffee shop is no frills, but cheaper than most in the area.

So much more than we were expecting. Even though this is quite a small museum it is really very clever and engaging in the way it presents the history of Bergen. The commentary on the exhibits is exceptionally well written, and the variety of ways in which things are displayed and presented is very clever and really brings things to life. Would definitely recommend a visit here.

Great museum. Interesting exhibits (original artifacts with well written descriptions combined with modern animations), also a kind staff, and good and inexpensive tea.

Honestly such a great museum. The workers were very nice an accommodating and the museum itself had English translations for everything. The museum also had some 4D aspects to it, like things you hear and smell to really put you in the past. I only wish they had pins and more merch with the runic alphabet in the gift shop though.

I enjoyed it a lot! Very nice showcasing of viking and other historic artifacts and nicely done, combining a modern surrounding with history in a way that works. Maybe I missed it, but a bit more of an overview of the different sections would be nice and some descriptions were hard to decipher due to dozens of labelled shapes one has to track. I very much liked the same concept visually, but maybe grouping a bit more rather than, e.g., labeling 15x coin would be good. Or a sort of summary of what's shown as I don't want to read details for every piece to figure it out. Generally, I do recommend going. I don't think it is very interesting for children.

The museum is very informative and has a nice atmosphere. They really have a collection that worth the visit and also they manage to use technology as a interesting resource. Definitely worth the visit.

One of the easiest ratings I have ever given. This review is late but well deserved! The man working on the desk was absolutely brilliant, he had so much knowledge of the museum that it was impressive. He also made the experience personal through jokes and the inclusion of questions to us. He was also very cultured and well travelled and knew about the area we were specifically from, it's a small touch but impressive. The history museum was interesting, the artefacts were fascinating, however the football section was brilliant. I am a huge football nut, and memorabilia collector. There is so much history of the local team, and all of their triumps and tribulations over time, as well as many shirts used over time. Overall, this experience was one of our highlights of Bergen, and is a must see in my opinion.

This was an absolutely wonderful find. I can't believe I've been to Bergen so many times and have only come across this museum on this most recent visit. The staff member we saw, Ada, was so friendly and very knowledgeable about the museum.

Viking life on display. The digs of several eras of commercial life are under roof and glass floors. Interpretative history at its best. The collection of Viking artifacts is extensive and well explained. I got my first experience in Rune reading. Well worth the admission.

(Translated by Google) The Brygge Museum deals with the early history of Bergen. In the small museum, excavations of medieval settlement houses are shown, as well as a number of finds, everyday objects, dishes, but also weapons and objects with cuneiform writing. It is interesting how cuneiform script was used, from poetry to "throw away messages". It is exciting for children and adults alike to write down a cuneiform note.

(Translated by Google) With a clear focus on archeology and medieval history, this is another museum I would recommend having a tour when going again. Not because there is not much to look at and good explanations to read, but because someone who tells enough can put things in a clearer context. If you are above average interested and informed in history, it should probably go well. The museum has a wealth of artefacts and sits on top of an excavation, which one can walk over and look down on. Korona probably influenced the business somewhat when I was there.
