The Norsk Trikotasjemuseum is a nice place to spend a couple of hours if you are interested by wool, yarn and knitting or by the technology and the industrial machines that once were used to produce knitwear. Many of the machines that were used to produce knitwear until the late ‘80s are kept operational in order to demonstrate the different steps in the process to transform wool into yarn and yarn into knitwear. The guided tour takes about 30 minutes and is complemented by a video that shows the history of the factory and interviews of former workers. Finally there is also an art exhibition with objects made of fabric. I very much appreciated the staff that were kind and helpful. In the café freshly made sandwiches are served with coffee or a soft drink.

We really recommend this museum. It is really worth to take a trip from Bergen. The ladies were so kind to guide us for a last minute trip. The guide showed us though the whole production process and started some of the machines. The whole tour lasted for around 30min. There is a cafeteria at the reception. Thank you!

This place is a gem. Everyone who is interested in knitting, have or had something to do with sewing or works in fashion, should visit this place. It offers a tour in a knitting factory, where you can see machines that have been in use since the 1930s and 1950s. I strongly recommend to take part in a guided tour that shows the machines in operation! Check their website for the times they offer guided tours as they aren’t very often. I visited on Sunday, which I advise against, as there aren’t many connections with public transport to get there - bear that in mind - oftentimes waiting times can take up to an hour for the next bus! There is a charming little café where you can have a delicious brownie while waiting for your guided tour. P.S. With Bergen Card you get free entry!

Great museum! Very beautiful machines that they still use to make products for the museum store. Very nice staff and tour guide, and a great place to have lunch with a view of the harbour.

Lovely museum with a cute cafe and view of the harbor. Learn about the history of the knitting industry in Salhus and see the old knitting machines in action. Great gift shop with items that were knit on the machines. Easy to get to by bus from Bergen. Don't miss it if you have any interest in knitting, machines, or industrial history!
