Wonderful attentive staff, lots of attention to detail! Offering us umbrellas to go out in the rain! Comfortable rooms. Great breakfast choices including vegetarian and vegan options. Very close to all Bergen's attractions.

Definitely the best and most elegant hotel in Norway’s west coast. Hotel in a historic landmark decorated with a warm design. My room # 310 was spacious, soundproof, very comfortable and cosy. Great bathroom. Breakfast choice was amazing with high quality local products. Staff was professional and most helpful. Very well managed property

Very disappointing stay for the end of our trip. Service was excellent, but rooms and parking were lacking. The sink would not drain, the AC was mediocre at best and why would you put the only electrical outlet on left of bed, behind the pillow at head level?! Also had to park 10 minute walk away for closest non valet parking. There was a public disturbance so valet parking was not an option for us and could not get clear directions for valet. Very enjoyable walk with luggage in rain. Expected more for the price point.

Authentic Afternoon tea concept. If you want to try Afternoon tea, Opus XVI is the spot. If you want to combine with a jazz experience, try sundays( jazz from 1- 4 pm). It's pricy, but worth it. The restaurant is classy, discretely decorated with traditional white table cloths, fine bone china and sets the scene perfectly for a pleasant afternoon. There are three sandwich menyes, classic, nordic or vegetarian, recommend the Nordic or vegetarian meny, the classic sanwich meny was a bit bland, but i hear some people like it like that:-) The tea menu is extensive, i prefer black tea, and tried the Grand goût russe with the sandwiches and the bourbon tea with the cakes. Perfect. Midway in your meal you grt freshly baked scones with jam and clotted cream, lovely. The volume of the jazz was very pleasant, the wsiters were very enthusiastic, and we really enjoyed ourselves.

Big thanks to Christopher who welcomed us with champagne and strawberries! Probably one of the most luxurious hotels, if not the most luxurious, in Bergen. Location was central, in between the Bryggen area and the more modern center walks. Hospitable staff. Lovely and amazing breakfast (do not stay without breakfast inclusion!) Reasonable value for money.

Very nice hotel located in an old bank. The rooms and bed are very comfortable. Breakfast is delicious. Located in walking distance to all Bergen has to offer. Highly recommended.

I cannot praise this city center hotel enough! Its prime location, outstanding amenities, and attentive staff ensured an unparalleled experience. The rooms were spacious, elegantly designed, and immaculately clean. The on-site spa provided a rejuvenating escape. This hotel has become my go-to whenever I visit the city.

I had a wonderful stay at OpusXVI. The service was good and friendly, the bed was comfortable and the showers had good pressure and are large. Breakfast was great! I highly recommend this hotel and will stay again.

Gorgeous, exquisite hotel! Fantastic hospitality and their breakfast options are scrumptious. First time visiting Bergen and this hotel is 11/10 highly recommended. If you are looking for not only comfort but a place not too far from sightseeing, this is the location. Lots of places to visit with ideal walking distance.

I'm Norwegian but for the benefit of international guests I'll give my review in English. So where to start? Well, I'll start by saying that Opus XVI is now my favourite hotel. I've stayed in many different hotels on my own, as a couple, on business etc. And Opus XVI really stands out. I feel it's really above Norwegian standard. My partner and I debated whether to book a superior or deluxe room, but we decided to go for the deluxe and we're so glad we did. The room and bathroom was very spacious, elegant and clean. The view from the room was excellent. We could see up to Fløyen and in the distance we saw Ulriken. The bed was in a league of it's own. So large and comfortable I could stay in it all day. Some other highlights: - the staff are very pleasant, professional and service minded, from the front desk to the resturant - the interior design is elegant and romantic. The hotel itself is very clean - great breakfast, which is a la carte but you can order as many times as you like. I recommend the Eggs Benedict with freshly squeezed orange juice - when we got back to the room in the evening, the staff had been there to clean, draw the curtains and made the bed ready for sleep. A very nice touch that we've never seen other hotels do In conclusion, if your're thinking of staying in Bergen, I highly recommend Opus XVI. This is now my absolute favourite hotel and I'll definitely come back. Hopefully for a longer stay.

Our room was rather plush and the floor to ceiling windows made it feel even bigger. We had a Nespresso machine, a huge tv and a very well equipped bathroom. The staff were beyond words offering help with anything and everything, and I’d stay there again in a heartbeat. The location meant we could walk to and from the train station and anywhere we wanted to go in town. I've never seen a breakfast like it either!!

The stay was lovely in general, with nice room, comfy bed and helpful staff all around. The same could not be said for the wait time at breakfast. Some items we ordered were not served after waiting 45 minutes and politely reminding our waitress after 20 minutes. We ended up leaving without getting what we ordered since we had events booked elsewhere. Perhaps they could have some buffet option for guests waiting around hungry.

We had a wonderful stay at this hotel in May 2023. The staff were incredible, the room and bathroom were spacious, and the beds were very comfortable! The breakfast had a great variety and we also enjoyed the evening events in the lobby. I have stayed at several nice hotels in the center of Bergen and this is my absolute favorite!

New hotel in the center but not on the main busy street. Just across the fish market. Great location. Large rooms. Nice staff. Breakfast, however was not adequate for the price and the down side of the hotel . The selection was small, waited too long for our hot dish (eggs). We stayed in many hotels through out norway and their breakfast buffet was the worst

Very nice experience! We had an issue with our car that delayed our arrival by many hours- the staff was very responsive and kept the valet available to us until we arrived to help mitigate our stress! Breakfast was fancy but could have more options. Overall would recommend staying here and would definitely stay here again!

We loved staying at Opus XVI! We have been travelling for the last month staying at a range of 4 & 5 star hotels and we can say that this was our favourite. The staff make the hotel wonderful. The staff are thoughtful from arriving to leaving, helpful, and kind. We loved the breakfast each morning, lovely rooms and location. Would certainly recommend!

The best food I’ve ever experienced. Being a vegetarian can be difficult, the staff went above and beyond to accommodate. It was so so good. The eaters were also exceptional. I’d highly recommend

This is a beautiful old building with incredibly high ceilings and windows in the rooms with windows that open! Close to where boats doing the Fjord tours pull in and near the station. Staff went out of their way to help. Would recommend the famous composer Edvard Griegs' Villa on the outskirts of town, where you can see an intimate concert each day, which was recommended to me by the hotel.

One the best hotels that I have stayed at. The staff is the best ever. Rooms are great, with fantastic beds. All TV's have Chromecasts. You even get service to make your bed ready for the night. Breakfast includes both an a la carte breakfast meny and a variety of choices to pick from. Location is very central.

Meh. I mean this is probably the best hotel in Bergen but it’s average at best. The lobby is drab and soulless at night. The rooms are fine but definitely not luxurious. The front desk staff are polite but the concierge is clueless and a waste of time. The breakfast staff are the highlight of this property.

Lovely hotel with beautifully decorated rooms that are very comfy. The location is very central for all the main sites with the waterfront only a 5 minute walk. The restaurant has amazing in season food and well worth treating yourself. Would definitely stay here again.

Excellent service!!! Prime location in Bergen. Very good breakfast. Nice amenities. Free and stable wifi. Plenty of power outlets in the room. Chrome cast on TV in the room to stream to your heart’s content. They even offered to pack a breakfast bag and book a taxi for us since we were leaving at 3am to catch an early morning flight out. Will definitely stay here again next time!!

Fantastic hotel that I would probably not stay in again, simply because the rooms (as attractive as they are) do not offer a view of the harbour, which is really what you want in Bergen in my view. Apart from that hotel was great, beautiful building, friendly service and right in the centre.

I can’t say enough how good this hotel is, we can totally feel the moment we walked in to this amazing hotel The reception desk is extraordinary in helping us getting breakfast before the service hour because we need to catch the early train to Flam The kitchen staff prepare delicious and abundant food every morning We have stayed in numerous 5 star hotels in the world, this one is for sure in the top of the list We have such a memorable stay here Will be back for sure

Thanks to the new cooperation with Hyatt, I became aware of this lovely hotel from the "Small Luxury Hotels of the World" community. It's run by Alexander Grieg, a relative of the composer Edvard Grieg. Accordingly, this is also the central theme of the house. Our room was quite small but nobly furnished with attention to detail. The staff was also incredibly courteous, professional, friendly, and cordial. Of course – also in terms of cleanliness and general condition there is nothing to complain about. However, if you arrive on Sundays or Mondays and hope to enjoy the hotel's gastronomic offerings, you should know that they are … closed! On Sundays and Mondays! This is not at all acceptable for a hotel of this category and with high standards. (The room rates are not any cheaper on Sundays and Mondays, right? Although the hotel offers only a fraction of the services and is operated with a fraction of the effort. This is all the more annoying as all upscale restaurants in the vicinity seem to be closed on Sundays and Mondays as well). So, only 3 stars here for "Service" just because of that. Otherwise the service was great.

Unfortunately I stayed at the Opus XVI for one night only. The hotel is centrally located in the city center of Bergen. I arrived late in the evening and check in procedure was quickly done. Overall the room they gave me was spacious, clean and nice with high ceilings. I especially liked the old hotel building with its Edvard Grieg history. I made the booking for this stay on hyatt.com and as a member of their World Of Hyatt program breakfast is complimentary. I enjoyed the breakfast in their luxurious restaurant with a classy atmosphere. The staff was very attentive and very friendly! I definitely will return to this wonderful hotel in Bergen!

Room very clean and well organised and nicely equipped. Excellent service. Great location. We stayed in June and have been so satisfied with our stay that we have been back a second time. The staff is very professional and helpful. The breakfast is outstanding, great quality food and sophisticated.

What a beautiful hotel! Pure luxury and comfort in the heart of Bergen. The architecture and design are from another time, so this is a great place for special occasions. The food was delicious, and you can see they go above and beyond to create a unique experience. Location is also great for exploring this city, so I will definitely stay here again.

Very nice hotel with excellent rooms. Breakfast is also tasty and good, but it took quite a while to get served.

Great atmosphere, they really protected the feel from the legendary Bankorotto days. Food was good but what really stood out was the excellent service! It is such an exceptional building which I think they succeeded in honouring. Loved the live piano session. Would recommend to everyone!

This restaurant is outstanding from the food to dessert to the service. One of our best dinners at Bergen with cured ham, escargot, lamb, beef, seasonal vegetables and more. I want to call out the exceptional service keeping the kids engaged so the parents can enjoy the dinner. Thank you!

the hotel facilities are great, staff are well trained, breakfast is superb (with violin live ! ), room are ok. However i give only three stars BECAUSE staff are limited; very hard to call and to ask for something as the hotel may be short of staff. The night was disturbed by fire alarm 3 times ! 12 am 2 am and 4 am.

I did not stay at the hotel, but guested its breakfast service. Wonderfully quiet and intimate breakfast. Nice change of pace to order the breakfast and have it served, but still only have one price for the breakfast in total. Unfortunately some items were absent from my order without explanation, and the quality was lower than I'd expect from the local and service. However, all in all it was a most pleasant breakfast venture. I'd go again in future, especially considering the reasonable price and attentive service.

This restaurant has a great reputation. The place is very well laid out and the service was fantastic. However I had a Tuna carpaccio to start and it was completely bland. No flavour to speak of whatsoever. A real surprise.

The experience here leaves you speechless. Butlers walking along the corridors offering complimentary champagne and strawberries to guests. Beautiful live piano music during breakfast… Thank you.

A friend had recommended this hotel as the best option in Bergen but we weren’t that impressed at all. On the positive side, it was extremely well located, close to all the main attractions. The building was beautiful. Breakfast included in our rate was excellent. It was served a la carte with great food options and generous portions. We also had dinner at the restaurant one night and the food was delicious. Service at the restaurant was also outstanding. In terms of improvement areas, we were extremely disappointed with our room. Since we reserved it as part of a fjord tour package, we didn’t realize it was so small. Although we mentioned it was our honeymoon, they didn’t go the extra mile to make our stay more memorable. We asked for an upgrade the night we arrived and the person at the reception said he would check on it but never got back to us. We got the classic room and it was really tiny. The bed wasn’t comfortable either. The mattress was a thin foam mattress almost like a pillow top and it was way too soft. Pillows were too high and the comforter was so thick and hot. The heating system was hard to manage and it was either too cold or too hot in the room. Our room didn’t have a thick blackout so it was hard to fall asleep when it was still daylight at 11pm or sleep in since it was so bright in there. The bathroom was also tiny and the shower pressure was a joke. Finally, the night we arrived, we tried to eat at the restaurant but they said it was fully booked. We looked in and saw there were tables available so they finally let us eat… Again, since it was our first stop in our honeymoon, we expected a little more from a hotel classified as a small luxury hotel and so well rated.

Not that it’s really necessary to mention, but after several “Scandic experiences” this place is really a relief. 😅 Don‘t expect top much from the service, though! Very nice staff, but it definitely cannot live up to the outer appearance…

  • 5/5 Shawn B. 1 year ago on Google
Excellent place with small quiet rooms and breakfast is included. Very reasonable price and the front desk was even able to furnish me a screwdriver to fix my laptop. The wait staff was very attentive. The night clerk was very helpful

We enjoyed our stay at the Opus, we were warmly greeted by Andrea on reception and made our way to the room. The room was large and well made up with a nice coffee and tea set up. The hotel is also perfectly located in the centre of Bergen. The biggest draw backs from our stay and the reason we’ve given a 3 star rating, is down to the sense of value for money… given the hotel is classed as “luxury” we were expecting to spend some money but the results of spending the money didn’t seem to match up. We had breakfast and the staff were lovely, the “classic English” breakfast was disappointing, the Voss black pudding was very sweet and had a cinnamon flavour, the sausage was like a spiced (pepparami) flavour and didn’t work as part of the meal. The room service dishes were below par, and very disappointing. The beds whilst are comfortable, are far too soft. All in all the stay was very pleasant and I would recommend the hotel for future visit’s, However I would recommend eating elsewhere in Bergen.

Always a great stay at Opus, we are comming back all the time. Fantastic atmosphere as soon as you enter the hotel, and we enjoy it every seccond. Great lobby area, fantastic breakfast, lovely bar. Service is exceptional.
