the museum is pretty cool, actually, and the only I've ever seen to have such an informative collection on the history of secret services and spies... but here's the thing: I made sure to thoroughly read through their website regarding the age recommendation and it's supposedly suitable for kids who can read. well, mine is in school and can read just fine, but this place was so NOT suitable for his age. all the small puzzles and tasks were great, but the majority was way too complex for a kid. the reading material was too dry, the former agents' retelling on screens too boring, the historical context too complicated. a super interesting place for those who are at least pre-teens, but not earlier than that. furthermore, we booked for 6:30pm and were told there'd be enough time. well- there really isn't. even long before 8pm, all the screens were already blank and we were advised to leave. we did pay to visit, didn't we? the MOST exciting part (the laser maze/game/whatever it is) was shut down already too. I can understand anyone wishing to close up in time, I really do, but if the amount of time permitted isn't enough, then either DON'T SELL tickets that late or TELL visitors it's not smart to book at that time. if I'd known, I definitely would've gotten tickets for a different day and time slot.

Just so bloody cool. Me and my boyfriend spent around two hours here but easily could've been three or four if we'd had the time. We weren't sure what to expect, but we were definitely impressed. I loved all the interactive elements inside the museum, as well as the audio and visual elements. Really enjoyed looking at all the gadgets, as well as the historic elements of spies from all over the globe. The Bond exhibition was also excellent, especially from a British point of view. Also really enjoyed dressing up as spies (although my boyfriend wasn't impressed with the hat I chose for him). My inner nerd was well and truly satisfied, definitely worth the money!

A great museum! So many exciting objects, stories and things to do! You can try, touch, listen, do a lot! Very high tech and an amazing experience! Buy your tickets online from museum's website to get a better price. You also get discounted price the earlier you buy and during less popular visit times.

The German spy museum was a pleasant surprise. I like most of you were not sure exactly I was going to experience when I purchased tickets for this museum. I liked the self paced exhibits starting with the early history of spies to modern day. I really liked the different things that they used for espionage from cigarettes lighters to bras. Thr other part I liked was how they made weapons out of benign things like walking canes. They had some really cool interactive exhibits for just about anyone. My favorite was they had a laser obstacle course and you had to be a spy working your way through a bunch of lasers and not get hit by the laser. Unfortunately I was not successful. They also have a place where you can dress up as a spy and choose different disguises and backgrounds to take pictures. Take a look at pictures and you will see it is well worth the time to visit the spy museum.

A must visit for all people visiting Berlin Museums!! I have been to more than 10 museums in Berlin, and this museums outperforms others. Ranging from interactive puzzles to lab experiments, there were a lot of options to explore and solve the mysteries. Also there was comprehensive explanation for all the spy stuff used back in ages. A person interested in this spy stuff can spend an average of 3-4 hours lurking around the museum.

I paid 13.50€ for the museum. Overall it's very well put together and it has replicas of spy gadgets and stories. The best part is video projected on the display screens and lots of interactive "quests". I however cannot give full stars because we could not enjoy the quests because they were all hogged by kids. Each one had a waiting of 20 minutes and we had to leave the museum not being able to do most of them or read the explanations on other installations because of too many people. The laser game did not send the video to us after submitting our email ID either. Seeing that the tickets are in "slots" and for the amount they charge us, they should let only half the number of people in each slot. A lot of videos they displayed were only in German and the English translation option didn't work. So my review is: Content: 4.5/5 Experience: 2/5 Cost value: 3/5 Time: 3 hours

Lots of items and interaction and one that won't bore the adults and kids alike. Busy when we went. Had to buy a Flex Anytime Ticket online to get in straight away.

Overview: A very interesting museum with never before seen espionage articles and artifacts. The kids loved it overall. The positives: No long cues at the entrance. The onboarding was pretty nifty and we enjoyed the welcome with the body scan simulation. There are some very interesting exhibits like the lie detector machine and the bug detection room Along with the James Bond photo/ video op and memorabilia from the spy movies. The ticket price is very reasonable for the whole family. The laser room is a lot of fun and a barrel of laughs. The entire experience takes around 60 to 75 minutes depending on the cues at the lie and bug detection exhibits, which leads me to the next section. The negatives: The entire experience should take approximately 60 minutes but the cues at the Lie Detection and Bug detection exhibits a take around an hour each which is what happened in our case. There is only one room for bug detection and only one lie detection booth. The inconsideration of the visitors, people jumping cues and each family taking 30 minutes per exhibit, makes for a very unpleasant and frustrating experience The museum should seriously consider either putting a timer or aging more of the same exhibits. These are not Mona Lisas rather simulators and more can easily be added to the museum. Verdict: Would I go back to the Spy Museum Berlin or recommend it to friends, family and potential visitors to Berlin? Unfortunately not.

Interesting place. The entry is wonderful. You can feel yourself as a spy while participating in the activities or listening to the stories about spies. If you purchase a ticket online, you'll save 1 euro. I assume you can spend a minimum of 3 hours if you plan to read everything and participate in all activities.

Very well-presented with excellent explanations of the exhibits. I had to be dragged out of there after two hours and I had to skip a lot. The quality and quantity of the exhibits justifies the high entrance fee, but I won't give it 5 stars because the entry pricing verges on a scam. We checked the price online as we entered the building and it was €19 for two . There was no queue, but at the cash desk we were charged €24.70 AFTER our Berlin pass discount

An amazing museum. A lot of entertainment (would be especially cool for the kids, but we also totally enjoyed), and a lot of interesting info and history to read, watch and learn. Plenty of interactive things to do (morse code, bug search, lie detector, you name it), and the "Ocean's 11" corridor with lasers as an experience to have on top. Importantly, no "in your face" propaganda despite it being pretty easy to insert it there (looking at you, DDR Museum). It may take time to try out some of more popular interactive things, but it worth it to wait, and also worth it to visit the museum even if you miss some of them and just check the exhibits.

Great museum where you meet face to face with the past. This museum is well detailed and full of edutainment. I came in contact with historical items here. If you wanna take a long ride back to the past, then you should be here. It's quite a lovely experience here.

Bloody amazing museum! Mainly focused on the Second World and Cold war era of espionage, this museum gives a great history of spying, detailed information on all the pieces in its exhibitions, and it's extremely interactive: there's a machine that lets you print a message in Morse code, try breaking coded messages, find 'bugs' in an old East German styled room, mini lie detector and a laser maze to name some. There's lots to see too from machines used to encrypt messages in WW2, to gadgets and items used in the Cold War era to a few props from the James Bond films. The museum is also pretty cheap too. Honestly a great place to take children and history fans, or just for a look around.

A fun and interesting museum that’s equal parts informational and interactive! Didn’t expect to stay for long, but my friends and I spent close to 3h in total exploring the space, including the gift shop at the very end. We loved that there were many mini games and activities throughout the exhibits. The most exciting one was definitely the laser maze - there was a man who was trying to clear the most difficult level, and everyone applauded when he did! However, as there isn’t a particular timed system in place, some people tend to hog the stations a little.

The most amazing museum full of really interesting information. Just the right amount of activities for children and factual display for adults, not only about espionage in general, but the particular role of Berlin and spying in German history. We could have spent hours in here trying out all the activities and listening to all the information. Everything is in German and English. We loved the laser challenge and all the practical tasks you could attempt. Would be good to have a time limit on certain activities, as some adults 'hogged' them and a queue built up. If you had 1 minute limits, then the flow might be easier and smaller children would have an opportunity to play. Lockers at the entrance - need a 1 or 2€ coin, which is refunded. Have your tickets to hand for entry, toilets and exit. The toilets are accessible inside (you have to go back to near the start) but you have to scan out and back in. Worth knowing. Great shop with cafe at the end. A fabulous museum and well worth a visit.

Viel Geschichte.

I went with my 6 and 10 year old kids and was hesitant in the beginning as there was a lot of history to read but in the end they had a lot of fun with a lot of interactive games. The laser alley was a hit! They made the line 3 times. They had fun looking at all the spying gadgets. The museum is clean and in a great location. I think though for some of the activities it would have been good if there was someone there to help as they are not so self explanatory or easy to use. We spent there more than 2 hours. It is worth it.

4.5 stars, but since there's not that option, I'll round it to the full 5 stars :) In the beginning we were expecting short, modern and little tourist-trap museum, however it's none of that! We were happily surprised with ton of the interesting content that museum has to offer. Other than that there's a lot of interactive activities and it seemed that kids were having their time of life over there. Only downside is the readability of some of the information in the museum. Sometimes it's because of the color (green on green doesn't help the readability) and sometimes because of the pattern which is behind the font. Also bare in mind that the entrance is based on available time slots! Other than that, I totally recommend

This is a really fun museum to go to with friends and has lots of really fun and interesting interactive exhibits, such as the laser maze, which I proudly made a weekly record on, on hard mode if I may add. However, some of the information is quite busily presented, such as the opening hall, which requires an immense amount of time to fully digest. Additionally, some of the activities take quite a long time with no warning, such as the secret agent training video near the end.

Shaken AND Stirred..... Visited here 2 years ago and loved it. Usually not a great lover of museum's, too much reading but I love espionage and spy movies so gave it a go and glad that I did. A lot of reading but all very interesting and kept me wanting to read more. Lots of interactive puzzles and games to keep you entertained and learning at the same time. They also have an area towards the end where you must navigate through laser beams without touching them whilst being timed. Could spend hours here. They have a cafe at the end although after reading about all the subtle ways spies die through various poisoning methods, you may not want to. They also have lockers if you want to drop stuff before you walk around which is great. Well worth the €12 admission. Definitely try this, after all, you only live........twice?

Quite pricy but great and interesting museum! In case you are interested into this topic, make sure to come here and even if you are not, it‘s worth it! They also strictly follow the corona rules but it is still really enjoyable. Also great „do it yourself“ „testing“ areas. Really enjoyed our stay there. Great for kids as well as for older visitors. Really loved the challenge of „saving the world“ and the possibility to get a video of it.

(Translated by Google) Modern museum that suits both children and the elderly, possibly not children who have not yet learned to read. A museum that also reflects the present and the information challenges we face today. Lots of text and history, also technology and gadgets for those interested. Liked that there was a lot to read and learn about the history of espionage. English-friendly museum, paid 12 euros for a single ticket, very affordable in my opinion.

Tickets are a bit high for the size, but the items inside are really interesting and cool to read about. You can see how advanced things were decades ago and even be a bit scared at how far along we are today. Would be great for kids, but the adults will not be bored. Gift shop has some fun items.

Very exciting exhibition, mostly the text and the interactive things are also in English so it’s fit for international guests. It’s very easy accessible because it’s really central in Berlin. But since today the prices have been raised which I have only been informed of at the cash register. Other than that it’s informative, a great read, very interesting exhibits and great stuff for you to try out. Thought trough and fun

A decent experience It has some interesting things It’s originally 12€ but if u bought it at the counter it will be 14.50€ You can finish it in an hour The best thing about it was the interactive games and the laser tournament I would go back just for that one Just go during school hours so children don’t fill up the line 🤪

Amazing museum addressing the particular subject of spying during the period of Cold War: methods and object of spying and some brief of most famous spies. We also learn interesting information on the old historirs of spying since Ramsses II. The minus one star is for not having a book on the museum in the souvenirs bookstore.

The museum is worth visiting. The museum lovers should visit it but not only. Those who like spy stuff or technology will find it really interesting. It's interesting how things that we think are high-tech today....like cameras communication devices and when you visit the museum you realise these were used in the 60's by spies with a very good performance back then. You can also interactive stuff. The staff is nice and helpful, they all speak English. Tickets can be bought online or on the spot normally the queue moves fast.

The museum is nice and extensive. Unlike other tourist attractions, here you will see something for your money. Rating is reduced by the fact that too many people are admitted despite buying tickets to time slots and there are unnecessary queues for interactive elements.

For starters we managed to completely lose track of time amongst the enjoyment! This resulted in a bit of a scramble to make it to Illuseum on time (don't bother). Definitely estimate it taking 2-3h+ it has lots of information and everything is fully bilingual in English and German, including the interactive things. It's fair to say that there are a few short queues for some interactive elements but they are 100% worth waiting for. Lots of fun activities for all ages. The exhibits were really high quality. Plenty of interactive screens to give more info about exhibits, and also some to listen to as well, so not only relying on reading ability. Some of our favourite things to do within the museum were the lie detector and the LASER maze. We also enjoyed the missions and facts about spies throughout history. 10/10 would recommend.

I can recommend if you're interested in reading about spy history. I'm not very interested in reading but just randomly went expecting it's all about game. Definitely not cheap. But that's what you get for not doing deep research about it 😅 The most interesting is the game i uploaded at the end of the "self-tour".

  • 5/5 Kevin L. 4 years ago on Google
Was recommended this place by a friend who visited it years ago. I must say it is well worth the decently cheap ticket to enter. You can easily spend hours reading all the facts and looking at all of the artifacts they have on display here. One of the coolest features about this place was the laser maze! If you are in Berlin, this place is well worth a visit.

An interactive museum for the whole family. I visited with someone who isn't a fan of museums, but we all left with smiles and exhausted from all the fun we had. The only problem is that the main exhibition is upstairs and there is no elevator. This is a major problem for people who can not climb the stairs.

The museum was really interesting but I did prefer other museums in Berlin. Because the museum was busy, it made it difficult to enjoy the interactive exhibits. There was a laser challenge at the end but the queue was very long and it was full of children which meant we skipped that part. The museum had lots of historical artifacts and spy gadgets. Worth a trip if you have explored lots of Berlin already and want something different.

What better place to have a spy museum than Berlin! The museum is very informative and fun at the same time. The museum was created by former journalist Franz-Michael Günther in September 2015. It covers the history of spying from ancient times to the cold war and more. There are many interactive parts that are engaging like Finding Bugs, Laser Maze, Decoding Messages which are interesting both for adults and children. There are also many multimedia sections like one that you can create your own Morose code, or check the strength of your password. I highly recommend visiting this museum even if you are just passing by Berlin. The entrance fee is 12 euros but for students is 8 euros.

Great museum. A very interesting exhibition that begins with antiquity and the first ciphers, all the way to the climax of the Cold War. It's great that the exhibition is divided into East and West Germany, you can see how both sides created really incredible spy gadgets. Of course, there are also mentioned films about Bond and other spies. A must see when visiting Berlin.

A very interesting and interactive museum for all ages. I went with my 16 years old son and he's loved every moment of our 2 hour tour. The museum is not too big, but there are many things to do, so it is good to reserve some time in order to enjoy it properly. The museum is located at the heart of Potsdamer Platz, with very easy access from different kinds of public transport. It is also just bebida The Dali exibition, the Cinema Museum and the Musical Instruments Museum. The staff is very well trained and always ready to help you or give you extra curious information without making you feel pressuared or unconfortable. Like most museuns, there are lock rooms for you to leve all your stuff and enjoy the this experience in a carefree manner. Don't miss this museum if you ever come to visit Berlin.

A great experience for both adults and kids. We went on a whim and bought tickets online (you’re given a selection of times to book) and so glad we went. Very informative about espionage and spies pre-war, during, and post-war, couple of cool interactive activities too (code breaking, safe hacking, etc.). Try breaking the safe, it’s harder than it looks.

You need minimum of 1.5 hours to finish this whole museum. It is surely interactive at a few places but when it gets too crowded with kids and families (specially on weekends such as today) you barely get enough time to experience even one of the interactive sections. Overall it’s worth a visit and has got a lot of historical facts that one may love to read!

Fun but also a little bit too much of the same. . Firstly, it's important to note that this museum is totally unique and if tech is your thing you're probably going to love this place. . I found the museum enjoyable, however, it's not my favourite because I'm more interested in social and community history (the sister Deutschland Museum next door is more my bag). . The interactive games in the museum were quite entertaining and popular with teenagers and adults but most were too challenging for younger children. . There is a James bond section that's quite fun too, but please don't let my review mislead you in any way, it's not a 'James bond' focused museum. This is simply an additional area of display. . Overall it's definitely one to consider if you're interested in technology and military strategy.

Easy one of the best museums I've visited! Much information but presented in a variety of ways. Not the standard "lots of text". You can try out how many things work, like sending more code, find hidden bugs in an office or check how weak passwords are. Great! If only all exhibitions were like this... A view into the hidden world of spies and mass surveillance. Gadgets, methods, people. And some James Bond. I almost guarantee that you start watching over your back when you leave :-) I highly recommend this place. But be aware, it is a big place, you will easily spend more than two hours. And enjoy every minute of it! Just one weird thing. When you exit, you will have to walk outside back to the entrance where you locked your jacket in a locker.

A nice experience to see how spies operated back in the days, some nice interactive displays as well such as morsecode and password decrypting. Even a laser maze you have to find your way through.

An amazing interactive museum! Suitable for children but also adults. It is quite informative but also exciting. The offer special discounts for students (and others) and the staff is friendly. I have spent about 2 hours there. Would recommend to go there in the mornings to avoid bigger crowds.

I have been there on a Sunday, first slot at 10. It was totally not crowded, which was nice. Kids liked it too. There is a lot to read, in order to do and get to know stuff, which is why I would recommend it for 3rd grader minimum. We spent approx. 1h45 mins. The laser parcours was pretty cool, kids loved it. Not sure how long it takes to forget about some stuff so we can come back...

A shame?! Anyone taking Covid-19 serious should avoid this place. Far too many visitors, making it hard and sometimes impossible to have a look at the various artifacts at display. Furthermore, the normally interesting "interactive" approach nowadays is highly unwise due to corona. Many gadgets and touch-screens being touched by numerous visitors crawling around one another. Sorry to say this - but definitely a no-go if you take Covid-19 seriously.

(Translated by Google) The museum itself is really big and there are very exciting things on display. You must wear a mask at all times inside the museum. But I think the museum is quite full. The safety distance is not always maintained here. You can choose a start time at which you would like to go to the museum and then you can stay indefinitely. I find that a little inconvenient, at least at the time of Corona. There are some cool things to try. A polygraph test (I didn't try it myself, just looked over how others did it) Personally, I found the laser room the coolest. Unfortunately, neither of my partner and I made it. But it was still awesome. All the information and items on it were really interesting. We discovered a lot of new things. I can definitely recommend it to anyone interested.

Possibly the most popular private museum in Berlin, the German Spy Museum or the "Deutsches Spionagemuseum" is rather peculiar and unique for its genre. Opened first on September 19, 2015, the German Spy Museum features copies as well as authentic artifacts of the world of spies and 'espionage' missions. Not only can the visitors see and touch items used by covert agents, but also be a part of them, using the various types of activities that have been included within the museum package. It was overall, a very VERY fun experience inside. They even let you dress up as a spy (of your own choice) from clothes they have exhibited, and take pictures! How cool is that?

Fun museum that takes about an hour or so to walk through. Interesting interactive exhibits that add to the historical timeline element of the museum. Great for kids ages 10 and up in my opinion as the museum does have a lot of reading and potentially darker topics (ie. death, traitors, and other spy themes). Worth it to go if you are in the area or interested in spies.

GERMAN SPY MUSEUM is by far one of the most outstanding museums and event locations in the German capital, Berlin. It highlights Europe's history on the crossroads of Berlin and Germany across two World Wars, the Cold War and the digital age of the Networked Society. Documenting the history of Intelligence and Espionage, explaining tools of the shady trade, the venue offers challenging conferences, panels, events as well. Explore the known unknown, in order to re-consider the known known of history, politics, technology

There was interactive elements but you had to wait your turn for them and when you eventually got to try these out you felt rushed cus there was a line of 5 people staring at you. So we ended up skipping them after a while. We went off peak time as well so if it was during peak times I would say go as early as possible to get the most out of it. It was fun but I wouldn't be running back or highly recommending it

A lot of information is added over walls. Some interactive things are also present. You can find technology, devices used to transmit messages in world war and spy techniques. Overall good, could be improvised, feels bit boring after some time. You would like it if you like to read a lot of descriptions.

Worth the price. Lots of things to see and do. I especially liked the Laser room.

I spent a couple hours here and enjoyed every minute of it. All signage is in both German and English. The interactive laser beam escape was popular.

Great place to visit with the kids! There is a lot of interesting information and historical facts about espionage, as well as fun activities! One can easily spend up to half a day there! It is advisable to prebook online.

Great exhibition. Lots to read. There is also a laser room, but we didn't go, because of the queue. I bet when you go when it is not busy, the experience is so much better.
