Excellent museum in a an old palace building recently rehabilitated. It is a free-entry, but you need to book in advance a time slot to visit the roof from where you can enjoy an amazing panoramic view for all Berlin. At the roof, there is also a very fine bistro where can degust a fine beer with bread and butter, or even have a more sophisticated bite. At the third floor you can visit a permanent0 exhibition on the Asiatic cultures, from Chinese courtly art to Indian miniature paintings, not to forget the very rich spiritual history of Hindu and of Buddhism. At the the second floor, you can visit the Ethnologist exhibition, where all the rich history of humanity is gathered in one place.

I love visiting the exhibitions at Humboldt Forum! It’s a great place to know about world history. The best part is the Balkon, where entry is free and you get a panoramic view of downtown Berlin! It’s so beautiful at night, especially! And of course you can sip coffee or wine at their rooftop cafe! Absolutely recommended!

Definitely worth stopping by. Most of the exhibits are free (just pick up the ticket at desk). There is a free cloak room. The exhibition we have visited was interesting - German and English labels. Huge artifacts like this ship on my picture is displayed. Very interesting. Would recommend 2 hours for visit - 30 minutes to look around this amazing building and the rest for the rest. Also gift shop sells very interesting gist you can’t find elsewhere so stop by.

It was really an incredibly great "educational trip"! The Humboldt Forum is a real architectural masterpiece; and by combining it with state-of-the-art technologies and the wonderful objects, you can't help but be amazed... - just great🤩! PS. The roof terrace is a must. The view is amazing ! (see photos. You have to book a ticket, but it's free!)

Amazing museum, I liked it a lot although I was there for a short time. Definitely will come to visit for at least a whole day. The video about the story of the place is very well presented. The statues and decorations are very detailed.

We went to the free parts of the Humboldt Forum. Very interesting exhibitions about art from different parts of the world. There is so much to explore we spent around 4 hours in this museum. There are lockers on multiple floors to put your jackets and bags away which is mandatory to enter the exhibitions upstairs. Take one euro in cash to put in the locker to close it. Toilets are clean and well assorted around the museum. The cafe had gluten free and vegan options which we fully appreciated.

Make this a must visit during a stay in Berlin at any time of the year, but especially come along during the Christmas Market from the middle of December to early January. It boasts an incredibly varied collection of stalls with food and gifts. I really recommend the Sweet Jamaican Stall as he is there every year, and the food is simply sensational for a small stall. Truly fantastic experience well worth a visit for the tourists among us, and if you are a local and haven't visited this, Christmas time or not, what exactly are you working for? Highly recommended.

Freundliche Mitarbeiter*innen.

A great place for everyone! A huge advantage is that you don’t have to pay for visiting the rooftop. On sunny days you can overlook the whole city which is incredible! The building itself is also an eye catcher and quite amazing because of its appearance and its history. All in all an interesting and even fun place to go!

A most spectacular history of Germany and the German empire on display, in buildings, presentations and museums. Awe-inspiring and unique in my opinion. Very well presented and a must see for anyone interested in Germany's history and culture.

The history of this historic castle goes back to the 15th century, when the construction of it started the real development of Berlin from a small village to a real capital city. Although damaged in the allied WWII-bombings, it could have been saved, but the communist DDR-regime had it demolished in 1950; they saw it as a symbol of the 'old times', while they, of course, where bringing the new dictatorship-paradise of 'equality'... Recently, the castle was reconstructed; parts of it show again the beauty it once had, others are modern. The result is breathtaking. This is a major new landmark for Berlin.

The Humboldt Forum is a newly renovated gem in the heart of Berlin, offering a wide array of collection. During our visit, we had the opportunity to witness a tea ceremony. The impressive collections on display are extensive and diverse, and the best part is that it's all offered for free. For those looking for a city view, I recommend visiting the Humboldt Forum's terrace. It offers a wonderful vantage point to admire Berlin's skyline and iconic landmarks.

(Translated by Google) The exhibition is very good due to the informative exhibits. Unfortunately, important regions and articles on current topics are still missing. Somehow everything seems a bit sterile to me. There is a lack of charm. As it is currently showing, everything would have worked in Dahlem as well.

Nice museum but who is responsible for the small size description letters in the dimmed down exhibition rooms? Very hard or tiring to read, at least if you are not the youngest (just check my picture and you will see a lot of people like this - - others don't even bother reading) . What a waste of tax money. Form should follow function!

Wow, this place turned out to be an amazing mix between classic and modern architecture. Everything is brand new and the way the exhibitions are planned is appreciated. Take your time to go there and have a coffee/drink/dessert at the patio. Also due to Covid you must get your tickets online.

Highly interactive - everything provided in both English and German. High quality toilet facilities which were easy to find. Quiet, easy to navigate and plenty of seating with a great view from the rooftop terrace. Free entry to the exhibits on floor 2&3 with the rooftop terrace costing extra - definitely worth a visit

So much to see it’s worth several visits! We enjoyed the “Matters of Perspective” exhibit, which included a room with photos & video interviews of people affected by German colonialism in Cameroon and Namibia. A large hall nearby displays boats from Oceania, where German colonialism also had impact. One replica boat was built in Fiji for the museum. This exhibit is free, along with other exhibits. There are some exhibits with a fee. Look for concerts & films in the outdoor courtyard.

Amazing place! Lot's of evidence to see that we, as humans, have a lot more in common than politicians tell us. I would recommend a guided tour. The guide was fantastic, thanks a million to her. I came to Humboldt Forum to see what I know and left it being fully persuaded that I know nothing. 100% worth a visit.

My friend's favourite museum amongst the museums in the 'island'. Book your tickets early if you have something specific you would like to see. There are free exhibits even if you are on a budget. You can easily spend a whole day here with its extensive collection if you are a museum lover.

Rebuild historical object. Now it’s hosting collection of artifacts from all over the world on 3 floors. Also there’s a great view from terrace. The building as it is mix of epochs, classical connected to contemporary with access to the river side. Perfect location for nice walk in the heart of the city.

Absolutely packed with well curated and labelled artefacts from around the world. Free entry and even a free cloakroom to leave your bag in. In a great building, right opposite Berlin cathedral. There was so much to see you could easily spend all day here. There are some Benin bronzes there, which after some controversy have apparently been agreed to be returned to Benin, but are current on long term loan to Berlin. There were lots of amazing pots and fascinating information about objects and different cultures from around the world. There is a nice shop and a cafe. There is a roof top terrace, which is chargeable to go to and needs a time slot booking.

A fantastic, mostly free museum on Museum Island in the centre of Berlin. It is huge - we barely visited half of it, and didn’t bother with the temporary exhibitions at all! There is so much space and relatively few exhibits (although still hundreds) so each one is given a lot of space. There are whole ships and buildings from all over the world, stuffing ceramics, sculpture, painting and calligraphy from all over the world. Cultures are explored and understood to a far greater degree than is possible (or even attempted) in other museums. It is the sort of place you can keep returning to time after time and always discover something incredible each time. My only complaint is that it is so vast that it is difficult to get to grips with in first entering. Some exhibits to draw you into the main galleries would be great.

  • 5/5 Zoltan L. 1 year ago on Google
After what seems 20 years of (re-) construction this palace now offers more than its 300+ years of history. The many permanent and temporary exhibitions have something for most tourists and locals to see, admire and learn. While it covers much of the history of Berlin up to current times, there is also much on offer from the rest of the world.

  • 5/5 Peter R. R. 1 year ago on Google

    Really BIG Museum!

  • 5/5 Ilpo L. 2 years ago on Google
Marvelous place and it is free of charge (at least at present). There are experts criticizing the idea to rebuild the demolished Berlin Palace. Perhaps they have a point or two, but the new building hits the spot perfectly and most of all, it works. I spent there two days and managed to go thoroughly through two out of some 20 exhibitions. The exhibition “After Nature” gives exciting answers to the debate on the significance of science. The exhibition “Berlin Global” is yet another story of Berlin, and I have seen many. But surprisingly it succeeds to present fresh perspectives. I also passed through some other exhibitions. Based on that, I can recommend Palace Cellar, History of the Site and Ethnologisches Museum. The first floor café was also used many times. There are several cafes and a bistro as well. The shops had some items not seen in other museum shops.

New, clean bathrooms, cafes with many coin storage lockers - you need 1euro coin. Museum narratives are open minded with different view points - not only from the colonial conquerors. Typical Berliner altitude - direct, straightforward and honest.

Good exhibition (Berlin). Poor overall signposting and not great in the exhibit. Having to wear gloves when they only had giant sizes wasn't great. Between that and the mask mandate, it felt very unwelcoming.

Had such a great time, at this great place. We went on an "Entritt-frei" (Entry Free) Sunday to this beautiful place, and had the time to see three beautiful exhibitions - "Berlin Global", "Nach Natur" and "Afrikanische und asiatische Kunst". They were simply flabbergasting and exquisite. The collections are simply too great for human compliments. The people are helpful and the overall system is also quite easy to guide along! ❤
