An architectural gem on the ā€œblack brothersā€ street known from old Berlin legends. Unfortunately, the street itself will be new again in autumn 2022 with horror: construction has been going on for years. All of the historically significant residents and visitors to the Nikolai House at BrĆ¼derstraƟe 13 are immortalized by name on plaques on the house and on an information board. Not all names evoke any memories. But lo and behold: hiking in the Harz between Neinstedt and Stecklenberg, the "Poetensteig" at the so-called Nelkenstein (not yet recorded in Google maps) is reminiscent of the hikes and poetry of the very forgotten Christoph August Tiedge. This has a lasting effect.

The Nicolaihaus - somewhat hidden on BrĆ¼derstraƟe - is of outstanding importance for the history of Berlin and the German Enlightenment. Named after the publisher and writer Friedrich Nicolai (1733 - 1811). It's definitely worth a visit; you can find out the opening times online.

The Baroque Nicolaihaus, named after its most famous resident, is located on BrĆ¼derstrasse, hidden between Petriplatz and the State Council building. The German Foundation for Monument Protection now uses it on the ground floor for events and on the upper floors as a Berlin branch. It was restored with love and a lot of expertise. The short walk down this street is worth it.
