CLEANER
STOLE
$140
USD
from
our
hotel
room!!
We
stayed
2
nights
through
a
package
tour
with
Europamundo.
After
the
1st
night,
we
left
this
hotel
(Grand
City
Hotel
in
East
Berlin)
around
8am
for
breakfast
and
the
tour
bus.
We
had
already
placed
the
hotel's
red
"Do
Not
Disturb"
sign
on
our
door
knob
for
many
hours
before
we
left,
because
we
didn't
want
anyone
entering
the
room.
When
we
returned
at
11pm,
the
beds
were
made,
our
pajamas
were
in
a
different
spot,
my
money
belt
(inside
my
backpack)
was
opened,
the
contents
not
in
their
normal
location,
and
from
the
$300
USD
cash
in
there
was
$140
missing.
I
think
the
thief
hoped
I
wouldn't
notice
or
just
think
that
had
spent
the
money,
but
I
recorded
exactly
how
much
cash
I
borrowed
for
the
trip
(2
$100
and
5
$20)
in
case
I
needed
to
exchange
money,
but
I
hadn't
used
any
of
it
since
I
had
also
brought
Euros
&
used
the
ATM
to
withdraw
local
currency.
My
family's
ID/passports
&
credit/debit
cards
were
in
the
same
money
belt
so
the
biggest
concern
now
is
fraud
&
identity
theft.
We
filed
a
police
report,
waited
to
speak
to
the
housekeeping
manager
(who
blamed
ME
for
not
keeping
the
money
in
the
safe
--
in
what
world
is
it
permissible
for
cleaners
to
look
for
and
take
money
that
is
not
in
the
safe?!)
and
the
cleaning
manager
&
her
2
translators
--
she
SMIRKED
at
me,
told
me
to
prove
it
with
evidence,
told
me
that
I
had
not
been
in
the
room
from
8am
until
4pm
(INCORRECT,
as
later
verified
through
hotel
records
that
it
was
the
cleaner
who
was
in
at
4pm,
not
me),
said
this
never
happened
before
where
money
went
missing,
they
trust
all
their
cleaners
who
have
been
with
them
for
5+
years.
Earlier
I
was
told
by
another
hotel
staff
that
this
HAS
happened
before,
but
rarely.
They
said,
how
could
I
be
out
for
so
long
without
money,
are
you
sure
I
didn't
spend
it?
I
said,
it
was
US
dollars
that
can't
be
spent
in
Germany,
I
had
Euros
with
me
and
my
husband
had
his
credit
card.
They
said,
the
cleaners
are
busy,
why
would
they
take
the
time
to
look
through
my
things?
I
said,
I
returned
at
11pm
with
exhausted
kids,
why
would
I
bring
them
back
down
to
report
this
to
the
hotel
reception
&
in
the
middle
of
the
night
file
a
police
report,
lock/cancel
my
credit
cards,
put
fraud
alerts
for
all
family
members,
&
meet
with
the
policeman
when
they
came
to
the
hotel
at
6:47am?!
When
I
confronted
the
cleaning
manager
&
her
2
translators
about
these
inconsistencies,
they
said
they
didn't
have
time
and
they
walked
off.
Later
the
hotel
manager
at
least
made
a
sincere
apology
but
now
it's
up
to
the
Berlin
police
to
make
sure
the
cleaner
doesn't
steal
from
hotel
guests
again.
