Alexanderplatz in Berlin Mitte is one of the best-known public squares in Berlin – and it’s certainly the biggest. Named after Tsar Alexander I, who visited the Prussian capital in 1805, most people simply call it Alex. Alexanderplatz is Berlin’s eastern centre and is an important transport junction – for the S-Bahn, U-Bahn, regional trains, trams and buses. It also has a great many great tourist attractions within walking distance, making it the ideal starting point for a sightseeing tour of Berlin.

Went to Saturn for cellphone stuff, case and screen protector, and adapter to charge laptops. Great store, excellent service. Coffee for me, tea for Grace, and split a maracuja (passion fruit) cheesecake 😋 at Einstein Kaffee

We had a great time here. The Christmas Markets were good fun. Take care on selection of restaurants some are way better than others

Beautiful Christmas markets. The lighting was so beautiful and the store lineups were pretty cool too. It’s easy to just walk around and reach several outlets that tickle your fancy.

Beautiful attractions and plenty to see but a little chaotic. It's still a great place to go and look around.

A very large square in Berlin . A big shopping mall called Alexa is there with lots of shops and food options . Alexanderplatz has access to buses , tram and metro . There are not that many cafes but plenty of food places. It is walking distance to a nice street ( Mille ? ) . Not far from museum island .If you are going to stay in Berlin , Alexanderplatz is very central …

One of the best place for meetings, or starting your own travel through the city center. It contains enough remarkable places to meet by.

This is happening shopping area with a lot of things to do. Many festivals and events always keep happening. I would argue though on whether this is good area to live. I personally felt that there are not many grocery stores nearby. Great place to chill out though.

The festival of lights at Alexanderplatz right till the Brandenburg gate was amazing. Good central hub for shopping, food, commercial & residential properties. Has a couple of techno clubs too like the Weekend & One7. The 5 guys burger joint & Bombay masala are good places to try for food. Enjoy, cheers!

Definitely a place to visit if you are in Berlin. It's mainly a shopping hub with lots of stores around. There are several restaurants too for grabbing some food however, those are not the best in the city. The TV tower (one of the most famous landmarks in Berlin) is also situated there. There are also lots of street performers entertaining people.

We hit this place on a cold grey February and it certainly gave insight of the misery behind the wall pre 89'. Brutalist architecture doesn't describe it, think Cumbernauld, Easter House centre in 70! With all the building going on in Berlin not sure why this is relatively untouched. Having said that, is vibrant busy shopping and meeting place, little gems around it, markets, pubs/restaurants under railway arches etc. Definitely worth the visit.

Super atmosphere, many people during evenings. Felt a little bit safe because of the police’s presence. Many popular shops. Amazing clock showing time all over the world. Many talented musicians and artists.

It's a vibrant place of entire Berlin. My university was near to Alexanderplatz and I love this place. Its always crowded, especially weekends are very entertaining. You could see people from different parts of the world. The tower is a main highlight and near to that there is a water fountain. Very relaxing and enjoyable place.

A very lively place to spend time. Being a first time visiter, The vibe in this centre was pretty intense. The place have all connection possible public city transport (S, U, Tram and Bus). Being a Tourist like me you can start your trip from here and a walk will take you to most of the important places. The Alexa mall is also very close and you is also a good stop for the shoppers. There are plenty of eatries here for a quick bite.

Suuuper.

The Alexanderplatz or “Alexa” as it’s known in Berlin is a fascinating confluence of history and modernity, where the architectural legacies of the former DDR (Deutsche Demokratische Republik or East Germany) blend intriguingly with contemporary structures. This square, bustling with activity, offers a unique visual narrative of Berlin's turbulent past and its dynamic present. One of the most striking aspects of Alexanderplatz is the visible contrast between the stark, utilitarian design characteristic of the DDR era and the sleek, modern buildings that have risen since the reunification of Germany. This juxtaposition is not just architectural but also symbolic, representing a city that has continually evolved while acknowledging its complex history. The Berlin TV-tower is omnipresent. The proximity of Alexanderplatz to the former Karl Marx Allee is significant. This grand boulevard, lined with monumental Stalinist architecture, serves as a poignant reminder of the area's past under East German rule. The historical DDR buildings along this avenue complement the narrative that Alexanderplatz tells - one of ideological shifts and changing eras. Whether you're interested in history, architecture, or just soaking up the vibrant atmosphere of a major European city, Alexanderplatz is a must-visit. It's not just a public square; it's a living museum, a testament to Berlin's resilience and its ability to embrace the new while respecting its past.

This place is one of the hub for shoppers ! With the TV tower being the show stopper one can find a lot of restaurants here and places to shop, ranging from clothes to souvenirs this place has it all! My favourite restaurant and my top Döner place it’s all here! There is also a movie theatre for people wanting to enjoy a movie so basically one stop for everything !

With the TV tower in the middle Alexanderplatz is one of the most iconic and busy centres of Berlin. It’s very touristic as well. It is also an area with lots of shopping options. Alexanderplatz also has S-Bahn, U-Bahn and regional Bahn station providing a lot of connections to various parts of the region. It could serve as a one-stop destination for shopping, movie going and sightseeing. But at the same time isn’t nor a true Berlin experience.

A place buzzing with people of all sorts. Probably, it is the most lively place in all of Berlin. All types of shops and people can be seen here. So many places to see around the Platz, like the Fernsehturm (TV Tower), Rotes Rathaus, etc. Just be a little bit aware of your belongings since it's a place with a lot of tourists so pick-pocketing happens a lot here.

Large area with lots to look at. I walked around with my partner for a few hours in the drizzle through markets, shopping centres, and pop up food stands. You can make an afternoon out of all the monuments in the local area as well, would recommend.

especially Christmas time is a place to go and see. Local is a place where people and tourists meet. If you are lucky, there is no fog and you can see Alexanderplatz tower. You can have good food and have a good time. Unfortunately, I found market prices a little expensive, it could have been cheaper. It could have been better in terms of toilet and cleaning.

This is a major transport hub and area of activity. As such it should better looked after by the authorities. Despite having it's own police station we saw very few police actually walking around. After Rio this is the worst example of street living that I have seen.... People on mattresses, in tents on street corners and under every bridge. A very lively street food area and even dancing did not relieve that shock that I felt.

Alexanderplatz in Berlin offers a captivating mix of history and modernity. The iconic TV tower, with its commanding presence, is a must-see. The square buzzes with a lively atmosphere, from street performers to bustling shops. While the crowds can be overwhelming at times, the experience is truly unforgettable. Navigating through various shops and boutiques, you'll find everything from international brands to local gems. Exploring this historic square offers insight into Berlin's past and present, making it a remarkable destination for any visitor. Don't miss taking an elevator ride to the top of the TV tower for breathtaking panoramic views of the city. Despite the crowd, Alexanderplatz is a perfect starting point for your Berlin adventures, leaving a lasting impression on all who visit.

One of the main points of the Berlin, it's accommodate a lot of stores and cafes, couple of fountains and of course the TV tower. Often Christmas and Kirmes markets are stationed there. I like to use the World Time Clock there as a easy to spot meeting spot. To get a good view and cup of coffee one can go to the Galeria Kaufhof top floor cafe.

Once the center of East Berlin, the capital of the demised German Democratic Republic, Alexanderplatz is still a center in Berlin and also still carries a cold war mystique. Quite a vast area of land, commercial and residential buildings, it is served by subway (U-Bahn), commuter trains (S-Bahn), trams, and busses. Architecturally certainly not a gem, Alexanderplatz largely reflects a 1950s/60s socialist realism in urban planning. However, under the railroad tracks is what probably counts for the smallest (gay) bar in Berlin, the Besenkammer or Broom Closet; well worth a visit!!

Ein Platz, an dem alles passieren kann. Man erlebt hier Freude, Liebe, Nostalgie, Wut, Hass, einfach alles.

The famous square was destroyed in WWII and now has a grey 1960s Soviet look overlain by the detritus of a western consumer economy in decline, with splotches of spilt junk food spattering the concrete and litter swirling about. The soaring TV tower is another failed attempt to impress with size.

A transportation hub that is very well connected to the other parts of Berlin. The TV tower is a landmark of the square and the city as well. Many retail stores can be found here. The square though, is not as clean as we wish.

  • 3/5 Naghmeh N. 2 years ago on Google

Night life in the heart of Berlin is fun but there are too many homeless people in the city and they mostly sleep at the Bahnof. It's a beautiful city no doubts but these homeless people sleeping at the train station need shelter

  • 5/5 Nyasha M. 1 year ago on Google
Alexanderplatz is the heart of Berlin. I really like some of the historical architecture you could see near the train station and the area with amazing clubs, restaurants, and events! This also a great place to get a great view of the TV from below. I also witnessed a student art exhibition at the train station.

Alexanderplatz (Alexander square) is a square and transport hub in central Berlin. The square is in the Mitte district and near the river Spree and Berlin Cathedral. Historical buildings are very well preserved, I recommend everyone who comes to Berlin to see this place.

Perfect view. We bought tickets in advance - saves the line, no need to deposite the bags. A great way to learn and see about the city and places we are visiting. Recommend to do it at your first day.

  • 4/5 Érico d. 11 months ago on Google
It's an iconic place with large spaces, a cool park nearby with awesome poseidon fountain. There's a lot of commerce and beautiful buildings surrounding the plaza. The only negative point is that the main train station is located here, which tends to have people in bad condition that are struggling heavily.

Amazing place on the map of Berlin. I was really excited by the design of red city hall. From this place You can change to various public transport lines in many directions. I liked also a lot of trees around the area. 🌳📸☀️

A touristy place one should surely check out. Get off at Alexanderplatz station to visit the famous TV tower of Berlin. There are a few nice bars and places to shop nearby. We generally go to the movies as there is a cinema hall which plays movies in English. Surely well connected.

  • 3/5 Loukas K. 9 months ago on Google
One of the largest squares in Berlin. It is worth visiting just to see the world clock. The square does not have any picturesqueness, on the contrary, there is a lot of garbage underneath. The TV tower and the red town hall are very close. I recommend walking from the square to the Brandenburg Gate, it's the best route in Berlin!!

  • 4/5 Tassos T. 9 months ago on Google
Well, it is clearly the area where the TV tower is located, but as a square it has nothing else special. Lots of shops, cafes, restaurants, but nothing special, just big. It may be of interest when various events take place. Oh, there's also the world rolls, which together with the TV tower remind of East Germany

  • 3/5 Ernie T. 11 months ago on Google
Sure, it's iconic, but it's also a mess as well. But it's not something that you should avoid, but I would keep my hands in my pockets at all times. The TV antenna is something else to see, and while I can certainly appreciate the amount of effort it took the Soviets to build it, I'm sure it is an absolute bear for Berlin to maintain. Nevertheless, there is nothing else like it. You should stop by here and then keep going.

  • 5/5 Sylvie “Sylvie” K. 8 months ago on Google

The place is under construction, like many other places in Berlin (Aug 2023). According to my understanding and knowledge, there are too many places in Germany are under long lasting construction. This influences very badly the tourist experience in the city and in the entire country. Very disappointed by this situation that damaged our last visit.
