Incredible. 1.7km of some of the most talented and wonderful art I've ever seen. Well worth the walk, and it wasn't too busy either which meant we could go at our own pace, take all the photos we wanted and get to see every piece of artwork up close. Brilliant experience.

FANTASTIC! This is a free museum where you will learn in an excellent detail the history of Germany and Europe during Hitler dominance. Real photos, with a fantastic gallery. This was just fantastic! I bought a book due to feeling like that I needed to know more.

Such an experience, so well done. Worth visiting if only to see the outside displays and a large section of the Berlin Wall but the exhibition inside is well worth visiting if you have time.

Typography of Terror was an enlightening display of the history of WW2. It was very well presented in English and German with a very thorough audioguide in many other languages. I couldn’t help but think how challenging it must have been for German historians to honestly retell the horrors their country and leadership inflicted on their own people and their neighbours.

It’s a piece of Cold War history. It was built between East and West Germany in 1961 and torn down in 1989 after Soviet Republic collapse. The entrance is free and all the materials/pictures or videos are in German and English language. It is a must view for anyone who loves history. Could easily spend hours reading and watching videos with Berlin from that period of time.

This place is very educational. I learned a lot. You just need some time, reading all, if not some of the text on the wall/board. It also seemed so quiet on this place. The museum is free of charge.

This is an extremely comprehensive and FREE museum on the site of the former German SS and Gestapo police forces during WW2. The indoor portion is very detailed and provides many photos and artifacts of the rise of the brutal police state via massive control of propaganda and terror. This will take you at least 1 hour to properly digest with the audio guide on your phone. The outdoor portion complements this with more of a summary timeline presented against the backdrop of the Berlin Wall and trench. I recommend at least 90 minutes to get a good sense of the museum but probably more like 2-3 hours.

A must visit place if you come to Berlin. Everything explains in English near the wall as well as the centre next to wall. Entrance is free. To enter the centre need the vaccination certificate/app. Take time to go through the boards and read the explanation about the history. You can have a audio guided tour also using headphones.

Topography of terror, a museum and a memorial, that provides a written information with photographs or you can take an audio guide, that tells about the horror times in our history. Around that place you can see the crushed stones. It was mentioned in the audio guide, that this kind of place should never be covered by grass with time. People should not forget it and must never let it happen again.

Informative timeline, clean, and a piece of history. Enjoyed seeing the wall up close and personal - it’s not that high yet, as you read through the timeline of events you get chills. Well maintained, and next to it is the Topography of Terror (with plentiful of reading and information that you can spend half to a full day there inside alone).

So... this is a tough experience. However, it is something we should never forget and so the people who have set it up and work there every day are to be applauded and supported. It shows how the German ruling party of the time ran things from one of their main buildings. It's tough to read and see so much, but so important that it is on display so we never forget what humans are capable of. It's a reminder of how bad things get when humans aren't at their best. I've posted some pictures of around the place as I cannot do justice to the actual exhibition. Please not Google have forced me to edit much of what I originally wrote.

Very interesting place to understand what happened during Hitler 's time Very sad to see and to know what was here before One recommendation, please bring your headset to listen what the story is behind the pictures. Luckily I had with me and could use with my husband Some people use their mobile phone speakers and is very annoying! Especially olders Or maybe an idea for the staff to sell disposable headset And this place is free entrance, no need to buy ticket! Come early so not problem with a lot of group of tourists

A Great History of the Nazi era in Germany from 1933 to 1945. There are two museums at this location ,one outside and the other inside . The outside one is covered partially by a polycarbonate roof. The inside museum There are a lot of permanent exhibitions displayed in this large museum. At the entrance to this museum, there is a section of the old Berlin Wall still standing here. A great place to visit if you are interested in the history of the Third Reich.

Also geht hin, kostet auch nix.

A very sobering dive into the history of the Nazis and what they did with lots of photographs and excellent narration via mobile app (headphones recommended) . What I took away from this was that the Nazis where not evil demons that were not of this world. They were ordinary people who did very terrible things with a lot of other people turning a blind eye. The photographs of SS Guards smiling while taking a break were the most chilling for me, it showed a complete lack of humanity.

Good museum and better presentation than than most. For those of us that lived through this error and the threat of Soviet domination it really strikes a chord. Made me thankful to be a free man. For those who sacrificed there lives to make it over, thank you for reminding us about the cost of liberty. It truly is pricess. Thanks to Ronnie for bringing it too an end.

Very well curated exhibition in a very important location. The captions are very well written and not too overwhelming. I didn’t get the audio guide as I only had an hour and a half and I found the written information plenty to be getting on with. I plan to visit again to soak up more information. A short walk from check point Charlie. A must visit when in Berlin.

Definitely one of the must see places when in Berlin. I would recommend 3 spots. One is the east side gallery, walk along the wall and witness some of the best artist's creations related to humanity. The second portion near Topography of Terror gives an idea of how the original wall looked like. Finally to get a complete picture of the lay of the land, the hurdles faced by Berliners to get to the wall, the hidden traps, go to the Berlin wall museum where they have preserved a section of the wall with all the other layers of security. There is also a memorial by the park for the 140 people who died at the wall.

It's so important that this museum exists and that it's free. This cannot be forgotten. I was pleased to see groups of students there with their teachers. It's well organized, the audio guide was very good and there's a lot of material to be seen. I just found it a bit confusing that the section numbers on the audio guide were different from the stands. BRING HEADSETS if you're interested in the Audioguide, they're not provided!

Communism divided the city with a concrete wall, beyond which people lost their lives. He also divided people into two categories. This is the testimony of these dark times. This is an integral part of world history. The Berlin Wall is most probably the only instance where two nations came together and be united with each other. This wall stands as a reminiscent of the bifurcation of Berlin as well as creation of two nations (West & East Germany) but at the same time the wall also stands as a rare symbol of unification.

Worth a visit, it provides wide range of information related to both periods of WWI &WWII. The barrier that surrounded West Berlin and prevented access to it from East Berlin and adjacent areas of East Germany during the period from 1961 to 1989. In the years between 1949 and 1961, about 2.5 million East Germans had fled from East to West Germany, including steadily rising numbers of skilled workers, professionals, and intellectuals. Their loss threatened to destroy the economic viability of the East German state. In response, East Germany built a barrier to close off East Germans’ access to West Berlin and hence West Germany. That barrier, the Berlin Wall, was first erected on the night of August 12–13, 1961, as the result of a decree passed on August 12 by the East German Volkskammer (“Peoples’ Chamber”). The original wall, built of barbed wire and cinder blocks, was subsequently replaced by a series of concrete walls (up to 15 feet [5 metres] high) that were topped with barbed wire and guarded with watchtowers, gun emplacements, and mines. By the 1980s that system of walls, electrified fences, and fortifications extended 28 miles (45 km) through Berlin, dividing the two parts of the city, and extended a further 75 miles (120 km) around West Berlin, separating it from the rest of East Germany. The Berlin Wall came to symbolize the Cold War’s division of East from West Germany and of eastern from western Europe. About 5,000 East Germans managed to cross the Berlin Wall (by various means) and reach West Berlin safely, while another 5,000 were captured by East German authorities in the attempt and 191 more were killed during the actual crossing of the wall. East Germany’s hard-line communist leadership was forced from power in October 1989 during the wave of democratization that swept through eastern Europe. On November 9 the East German government opened the country’s borders with West Germany (including West Berlin), and openings were made in the Berlin Wall through which East Germans could travel freely to the West. The wall henceforth ceased to function as a political barrier between East and West Germany.

I appreciate the mission of this place, positioned on a site of historic significance in front of a substantial segment of the old wall. They're doing important work on the preservation of history and education. On the other hand, the exhibits were all photos and small text, with the option for an audio tour. I feel that a book or documentary might be more effective at communicating the material.

Visiting the Berlin Wall was a deeply moving and thought-provoking experience. As a symbol of division and reunification, this historical landmark carries immense significance and offers a glimpse into a turbulent past. The moment I stood before the remnants of the Wall, I couldn't help but feel a profound sense of awe and reverence. The Berlin Wall Memorial is meticulously maintained, providing visitors with a comprehensive understanding of the wall's construction, its impact on the city, and the stories of those affected by it. The informational panels and exhibits offer a wealth of knowledge, allowing me to grasp the historical context and the gravity of events that unfolded here. I highly recommend dedicating ample time to explore the Berlin Wall and its surrounding memorial sites. It's an experience that will leave an indelible mark on your heart and mind. Remember to bring your camera and capture these powerful moments, but also take time to reflect, pay tribute, and contemplate the lessons this iconic structure imparts.

The Berlin Wall Memorial or Berlin Wall Monument is located in the center of the capital, Berlin, and is a great place to learn about the history of the Berlin Wall. The memorial consists of a documentation center and an outdoor exhibition, which are both open to the public free of charge. The documentation center provides a detailed overview of the history of the wall, including its construction, the lives of those who lived along it, and its eventual fall. The outdoor exhibition features a preserved segment of the wall, a watchtower, and other installations that help visitors visualize what life was like during the Cold War. Overall, if you are interested in German history and want to learn more about the Berlin Wall, then the Berlin Wall Memorial is definitely worth a visit.

This isn’t a very “structured” spot, it’s just a bit of the wall preserved along a street. But it’s immensely fascinating and special to stand right there and face something that (genuinely not long ago) divided a western city under the threat of death or imprisonment. Standing there makes you feel much more aware of what happened, especially if the wall was something that went up and down before your time. I’d heard about it always through media and history lessons, but seeing it in person put everything into perspective in a very unique way.

Very interesting exhibition in the trench. A lot of information about the war itself and the construction/demolition of the Wall. The panels could be a handful to read because there is a ton of them, but if you are passionate, don't hesitate to take a look!

Great first stop in Berlin if you want to learn about the regime. Lays down some important historical context about WW2 that will help for other museums that you may go to.

Beautiful and diverse paintings on a piece of history, really fun to see, very picturesque, and for free! My only issue was how touristy it was there but I suppose that's to be expected from such a notable place. What I appreciate, though, was how respectful other people were when taking pictures - they'd politely wait until you took your pictures and only then they would walk by. Very nice! Another detail I liked about the wall was that there were names of the paintings and artists written in front of the paintings.

The Topography of Terror Museum in Berlin is split into five parts, showing how the Nazis rose to power, created a police state, persecuted different groups, waged war, and what happened afterward. It covers the years from the early 1930s to the end of World War II, making it easy to follow the historical events. The exhibits give a clear picture of the harsh realities of that time, serving as a reminder of the terrible things that occurred.

Excellent museum. There is so much information that we never knew. It's really in-depth and so many personal stories which are very sad but glad they are told. Helped me to understand what it was really like in Berlin back in ww2. It was one of the best museums we have been to in Berlin. Make sure you give yourself enough time to walk around as it's not a quick museum.

The Berlin Wall was a guarded concrete barrier that physically and ideologically divided Berlin from 1961 to 1989. Construction of the Wall was commenced by the German Democratic Republic on 13 August 1961. It cut off West Berlin from surrounding East Germany, including East Berlin. Nowadays, the wall is decorated by a lot of artworks which make it more interesting.

(Translated by Google) The Berliner Mauer is the quintessential Wall of contemporary history, the disturbing and visible symbol of the so-called Iron Curtain that divided Western Europe from its opposite eastern part during the Cold War period. Built in 1961 and largely demolished in November 1989, the Berlin Wall is today a poignant testimony to the colorful artistic freedom that shines through in the stunning murals that have covered this symbol of human division after the end of the Cold War. The irrepressible creative spirit that emerges everywhere in the surviving wall makes us understand even more the harsh climate that has oppressed entire generations of Germans who wanted to cross this wall because they dreamed of a different life and tried to escape from that sort of suffocating social engineering laboratory that was Berlin. The advice is to walk among these beautiful murals admiring as many as possible.

The entire remaining wall is roughly a 15 - 20 min brisk walk from end to end. One side of the wall they have allocated to artists while the other side facing the river (west side) is mostly filled with random graffiti. The east side is interesting to check out. Most of paintings were done immediately after the wall came down and shows motifs related to freedom and democracy.

A must see. Makes you wonder how many more pictures are not exhibited. The enormous impact on so many ordinary people's life of the wwII is still incredible. Great that this place has an indoor and outdoor exhibition. Lots of space to walk around and sink back into the terror times of the third Reich. The German authorities don't spare the themselves. It all appears authentic and non sentimental, but pure reality. Not really suitable for young children in my opinion. Take at least an hour to visit. Still open in the evenings, which is also an advantage.

Odd that five stars indicates "love" I didn't love this place. I could feel the terror. Not the terror from the past. Instead I saw history repeating itself today. So many similarities with current governments in The USA, Brazil, and others. Spreading a discontent for others and blaming them. Highly recommend a half day visit here reflecting on the past and preventing current atrocities happening today.

(Translated by Google) The place where this building stands is very theatrical, a strong silence envelops you at the entrance of the complex, and the long piece of wall still standing, emphasizes even more the importance of this place. It stands where the Gestapo and SS buildings once stood as well as Himmler's offices. The building is modern, bright and welcoming in its own way. The photographic exhibition is bilingual and is accompanied by monitors that broadcast short films. It represents the years of terror that go from 1933, with the seizure of power by the National Socialist party, until 1945 with the end of the Second World War. Admission is free and easily accessible even to those with reduced mobility. Personally, I recommend a visit, to try to imagine the fear that a Jew of the time felt.

I read and learned a lot about the rise of Nazism and World War II in school when I was a teenager. It was revolting, and somewhat hard at the time to understand how a whole nation agreed to follow such atrocious ideology. The museum taught a different perspective on the history that might have been told somewhat differently from the text books, and that helped me understand the foundations that made the rise of Nazism possible. The exhibition was so well put together that I purchased the book of the museum to explore more.

Extensive information and displays of different aspects of the war, from both a political and social standpoint. We started at the “end” of the displays by accident, there was definitely a correct way to read them. The building next to the area with the plaques looked like it had more info and exhibits, but we found the outdoor area to be enough. Tip: the grey boxes in the display areas outside often have cards/trays you can pull out, which often have even more info. Displays are in both German and English.

The Berlin Wall is a must-see for anyone visiting Berlin. It is a powerful reminder of the Cold War and the division of Germany. The wall was built in 1961 by the East German government to prevent its citizens from fleeing to West Berlin. It stood for 28 years and was a symbol of oppression and division. Today, only a few sections of the wall remain. However, there are many memorials and museums that commemorate the wall and its history. The most popular tourist destinations are the East Side Gallery and the Berlin Wall Memorial. The East Side Gallery is a 1.3-kilometer-long section of the wall that was painted by artists from all over the world after the wall fell. It is a colorful and vibrant reminder of the wall's history and the power of art. The Berlin Wall Memorial is a more somber place. It is located at the site of the former Brandenburg Gate, which was one of the most heavily guarded crossing points between East and West Berlin. The memorial includes a preserved section of the wall, as well as a museum that tells the story of the wall and its fall. No matter which site you choose to visit, the Berlin Wall is a powerful and moving experience. It is a reminder of a dark time in history, but it is also a testament to the power of human spirit and the triumph of freedom. Tips: The best time to visit the Berlin Wall is during the day, when the sun is shining and you can see the wall in all its glory. If you are visiting the East Side Gallery, be sure to bring your camera. The paintings are some of the most iconic images of the Berlin Wall. If you are visiting the Berlin Wall Memorial, be sure to allow enough time to visit the museum. It is a very moving experience. The Berlin Wall is a popular tourist destination, so be prepared for crowds. If you want to avoid the crowds, try visiting early in the morning or late in the evening. Overall: The Berlin Wall is a fascinating and important piece of history. It is a must-see for anyone visiting Berlin.

Three sections still stand. An 80-meter long section of the "first wall" at the site of the Gestapo headquarters (between Checkpoint Charlie and Potsdamer Platz), a longer section of the second wall, along the river Spree, near the Oberbaumbrücke, known today as the East Side Gallery (Ostbahnhof station S3, S5, S7, S9, S75), and a third section on Bernauer Straße which was converted into a monument in 1999.

This was quite an amazing balloon ride!! Not your typical ride, as you're tethered to the ground still and you go up 150 metre's, for 15 minutes. Hold on to your stomach though, because if there is a gust of wind 🌬️ 👍😁 Anyway, if you're in Berlin, this is opposite where the wall is, you must try it, it's worth going.
