The museum is currently renovating, and the ordinary exhibition is closed. Currently they have 2 mini exhibitions, which is about German History from 1848 - 1991 and integration between Germany, Poland and France. It’s a bit disappointing as the mini exhibition is really small, and you can generally finish it within 1 - 1.5 hrs. However, there are still numerous of interesting items worth to take a look. Look forward the renovation work finish and revisit in the future.

They told me that the Germany History part is going to be closed for the next five years. Five years!! Be aware of that before going (there is clear information outside, but I found nothing related to that before going). I saw the temporary exposition of Marx and well, little information or novelty. I liked the building more than the exposition. With the German History part closed I think is not worth the visit even though it was pretty cheap.

Although the expo was good, I am absolutely shocked by one of the guards' behavior and have to leave one star. He was aggressive, impolite, and mean. A total maniac. Other people from the personnel said it's not the first time people complained about him, so I don't understand what the museum is waiting for before firing him. Hope for every visitor not to cross his path.

A beautiful space. A somewhat spartan gift shop. Sadly, most of the museum exhibits are closed due to renovation. There were only three exhibits open -- Karl Marx, Richard Wagner, and Angela Merkel. Although these were informative and interesting, it was far less than what was expected. The cafe looks nice.

Beautiful museum to visit. And wonderful Architecture. 7 to 10 Euro tickets and you need to leave your jackets and bags. Cloakroom is free of charge and on lower ground floor. Toilet facilities on same level. It worth spending time. You can book tickets online so you don't need to wait on queue to purchase one?

At present, the main exhibition is closed, at least till 2026. The exposition about the important crossroads during the last 150 years is only a tiny subset of what the museum has in store for you. I found the topics interesting but it consists mainly of panels which you have to read or listen to the audio guide. No interaction (unless the friendly staff). The exploration is backwards in time, rather confusing to follow IMO.

Well-curated, to the point that you actually want to learn more about this nation. The main permanent exhibition spans two storeys, and dates back to the era of the Frankish Kingdom. Not sure what I'm saying? Then go see for yourself. Tickets are only €8. There are also plenty of English books at the shop, so you could extend your research on German history.

Definitely worth a visit! 4 euro for students and you can spend hours there! There is a permanent exhibition about the German history. Furthermore, there are special exhibitions going on all the time. It's also family friendly since it has some things kids can touch. Kind and helpful staff.

It describes itself as a place of "enlightenment and understanding of the shared history of Germans and Europeans". I went on free museum Sunday, an awesome opportunity! I went to two exhibits, one that gave a really comprehensive timeline of Germany. I was a little confused on how to walk through the exhibit but it was still really interesting. Even though there were a lot of people it was designed so that it was easy to read the information and see the whole exhibit. The other exhibit was about a German poet and songwriter. Also really interesting, with a lot of details about the events and lots of neat things to look at and listen to. One of the best things about this museum was the effort to make it more accessible. There were some booths with raised areas so you could feel artwork, and a lot of the exhibit could be read or listened to, and I believe much of it was available in Braille as well.

First of all, if you want the full experience you won't be able due to some reparations they are doing now. According to them, it will be ready in 2024, so the only exposition available is downstairs. This exposition contains some of the Cold War and 2nd World War documentation. Pretty interesting if you like this kind of subject. At the end of the exposition there is a videogame, point and click type of game. You can also play it at home. Unfortunately there is not much to see here.

One of the only 2 current exhibitions "The Roads Not Taken" is a huge letdown! It was sold as an exhibition exploring the "what-if's" of some of the most major turning points in history. But 95% of the facts presented was what actually happened, each of the 14 turning points only had 1 small square of lackluster attempt at a what-if: "okay if this didn't happen, then it means the opposite did", without any further speculation on what might have been. One of the what-if's wasn't even a what-if's, they just relayed what actually happened. Then the main selling point of the exhibition is the simulation to participate in the alternative timeline was broken - per the photo attached. This exhibition had so much potential but came with a botched implementation. We do not recommend this!

While the main building, the Zeughaus (armoury) undergoes renovation, only the newer areas are visitable. However they are well worth it - the last 200yrs of German history is a great exhibition well set up and conceived and the current exhibition on songwriter Wolf Biermann is excellent.

Have been here twice now at different times of the year with a different rotation of exhibitions. Both times have been really interesting. The Marx exhibition that is on currently is full of facts and is an unbiased representation that is sure to teach you something new, be it good or bad about Marx. The Merkel exhibition was a bit strange though. The staff are helpful, friendly and polite and it is easy to find, just off museum island. The building itself is an interesting piece of modern architecture.

What a building! A beautiful modern entrance structure on the front of the older building which looked amazing when it was lit in the evening. We found the basement gallery particularly interesting and laid out in a way which was captivating and more accessible than many of the the more formal German galleries.

Trotzdem sehr empfehlenswert!

The personnel is very nice and there was no queue. Current exhibition “Roads not taken” was a disappointment for me, it is constructed in a very strange way, inconvenient to read and to move around. The idea of exploring different historical paths is captivating, but the way it is organised in this museum, with only dry facts presented:( Plus a weird printing.. €3,5 for a student.

Perhaps the most important historical museum in Berlin, the German History Museum offers a lot more than just Cold War history. However, we feel that visiting this museum will give you a great complementary perspective on the previous sights. On top of that, the anex to the museum always has quite a few amazingly curated temporary exhibits. Quite often they will have a Cold War themed one, at least. This museum’s collection can be overwhelming though, make sure you pace yourself and focus on the subjects of your interest. Do not try to cover it all in one visit. It is humanly impossible. A must visit for sure.

(Translated by Google) The flight exhibition near Hermeskeil is one of the most extensive aviation museums in Germany. There are helicopters, propeller guns, historic airliners and military jets. In addition, engines and engines are exhibited and explained. One could explain some technical facts in more detail, but for those with normal interests it is more than sufficient. The exhibition is only 30 minutes by car from Trier and easy to find, parking is free. A museum coffee inside the Concorde is also particularly creative.

Incredibly beautiful and no less incredibly interesting museum. If you are going to visit this museum, set aside more than two hours for it, otherwise even with relatively fast speed you will not have time to go around it all. Many different halls, with more than 8000 exhibits of the main exhibition of the museum, and periodically there are also other specialized exhibitions took place here. Weapons, outfits, armor, paintings, ancient books and manuscripts, old mechanisms and so on. One of the most interesting features of this museum is an interactive historical map, which in 3D shows what Europe looked like at different time periods. How it changed from era to era (the map is on one of the photographs of my review).

Very impressive museum. If you take your time and read all of the info in the 1919-present section you can get a more nuanced view of Hitler's rise to power. I didn't know, for instance, that there was a competing party that was closely aligned with Russia. I ran out of time in this museum. Also the restaurant is excellent. You can really tell that the chef puts a lot of effort into the food. It was actualy the best restaurant we ate at in Berlin. Prices were reasonable. Ambiance was great.

This museum is HUGE. You will need minimum 3 hours to see everything but not in detail. It starts from the very beginning, from the first settlers passing through the world war and ending with the contemporary ages. It is full of paintings, sculptures, antiquities such as dresses, pottery, tea sets, etc. It is actually very interesting but you will need time to see all.

There's not referring anywhere that the main museum is closed. At least they had an exhibition referring to Marx. A big disadvantage that people who are working inside cannot understand completely English which ends to make a lot of misunderstandings. Also there are no signs to tell you where to go. So, as you enter to the museum and pay for the ticket (they also give you a sticker). Go a floor downstairs to leave your jacket even your backpack and then go to the 1st floor for the exhibition and don't forget to stick the sticker on you so for the stuff to know that you have already paid for the ticket.

This former armory has very detailed information on historic events that formed Germany. There are some very unique items in the museum, like a wooden prothese arm for a rich knight. Some lewd pictures about the Christian church and some contemporary items like a WW2 boardgame with planes and submarines with the purpose to invade the UK. Of course there are many beautiful pictures depicting various moments of German history Every item has some background information and you can get extra information if you pay for the audio tour. You can easily spend 4 hours looking at each item and reading the information about but for me after 2 hours my brain was overloaded with information and i just saw 40% of the museum. Luckily there is a beautiful museum cafe/restaurant with lovely German food for decent prices. Great place to have break and get an energy boost before absorbing the rest of the museum. Mind you, drinks are overpriced. You can easily pay 5 euro for a 0,5 liter of water. The fermented cabbage with sausage and potato puree is recommend. It is definitely worth the entry fee but be aware that local schools do excursions here. So there might be some loud children.

Was unfortunate that the main permanent exhibition was undergoing construction, as that contained most of the German history aspect that we came to see. The exhibit on Karl Marx and Capitalism was interesting, so was the exhibit on Richard Wagner, but they didn’t really give much context as to who these people were, just how they influenced our day and age.

As a museum, the Deutsches Historisches Museum - Pei-Bau and German Historical Museum is unfortunately a "big" disappointment at the moment, as there is only a small exhibition on the subject of CITIZENSHIPS, which is not even good. Unfortunately, many aspects are lost in it. The advantages of Europe are not even really explained or addressed. The rest of the museums are currently a big construction site and are actually closed and not accessible. Instead of closing the museum until everything is ready, staff are ordered to wait, and it seems more like a reminiscent federal job program. I'm currently advising against a visit. When it's 100% open again, and will definitely visit again.

For non historians but for people passionate about history. The permanent exhibition in DHM is closed until 2025, but the current temporary exhibitions were interestingly and captivatingly built so I've had a really great time. Knowledge-wise, it definitely is an enriching experience and I recommend combining it with a visit to the Humboldt Forum (HF), the section called "The history of the place" where, similarly to the DHM exposition, you can gain an insight into Germany's history for o period longer than 100 years. The difference between the two lies on the focus of the narrative; in the former you get to learn about the course of events since 1866 until the fall of the Berlin wall in '89 (including the parties involved, state structure and power shifts, the relation with the neighbor states, the challenges of the society etc), whereas the latter has the Berlin Palace (the actual building you'll be in) on the main stage in an extraordinary video panorama for an even greater time span. Chapeau to the designers and the story tellers! Berlin has really wonderful and insightful museums. Love what they do and how they do it.

Less interesting for children.

This is one of the modern and a very old museum of the rich German history. There is the older building for all the permanent exhibitions and a new building for more different and seasonal events. The Architecture of the new part is a little bit spectacular ... only a little bit, but you know ... it's more understatement. The current show is dedicated to the famous Humboldt-brothers. Very nice to see. Enjoy it!

This small museum in situated in a beautiful part of the city. Gorgeous places to take pictures and explore. The museum itself is small and dull, German history is interesting to an extent but it’s art and artifacts lack that certain something that France, Italy and Spain have. You will learn a great deal on their history and different historic periods. I do recommend going as it won’t take long and makes a great half day experience as you’ll find delicious restaurants near by.

The museum offers a huge amount of interesting content over a large historical period from the Romans to present day. The organization of the museum is also good, the only thing that could be improved is the lighting conditions. After 3h of reading tiny captions in dim light my eyes started to feel quite tired.

Well-curated, to the point that you actually want to learn more about this nation. The main permanent exhibition spans two storeys, and dates back to the era of the Frankish Kingdom. Not sure what I'm saying? Then go see for yourself.

This is without a doubt one of the finest museums in the world. It's tremendous for its size and, thorough coverage of the entirety of history of Germanic people and German history. I cannot think of a period of German history not covered in this museum. In typical German fashion, the museum is laid out beautifully in perfect chronological order and there's no shortage of English descriptions. I spent 5 hours in this museum and could've spent more time here were it not for my poor feet hurting. There's so much to see in only one day, I wish the museum permitted multiple entries over a two day period. The museum has an audio guide which is excellent, although it’s quite bulky and heavy, and can be uncomfortable to use for extended periods. A must-see in Berlin!

(Translated by Google) Museum with ALL German history. Really very interesting and you can get to spend the whole day inside (me almost 5 hours and because they closed !!). Admission is free and the audio guide costs about 3 euros. Highly recommended, even for those of you who are not so interested in history. Personally, the audio guide isn’t worth it too much, unless you’re lazy to read the news boards or you’re really interested in the country’s history. All the basic information is on the panels and is more than enough 👍. The route is a bit confusing at first with the arrows of the ground and the indiations of the Covid, but it can be followed perfectly. And people keep their distance properly. They give you a sticker (I don’t know why) and you have to stick it on. There are wardrobes and very clean bathrooms. In short, a good museum.

Great information about the more recent history of Germany in the downstairs half of the permanent exhibit (I skipped the first half upstairs, which covered through WWII), although the lighting was low in much of it and that made reading the extensive information difficult. More descriptions of the photos would be nice. Helpful to tie together all the information we received on city tours. Extra bonus - entry is free.

This lovely museum has a good collection of old planes, mostly indoor, and mostly jet fighters outside. In the main building, there is a Me 108 and a MiG-15 to stare at, and a lot of others. Plus engines, models, displays... Very nice. Outside is a wide collection of jets (MiG-23, Lightning, Viggen, F-4, some old Sukhoi) plus several passenger planes (a Comet!). Plus -highlights!- a Spanish-built He111 and an open DC3. The latter has the military airborne seats in it, so my son and I I played 101 Airborne over Normandy while my daughter was busy flying the Westland Wasp on the other end of the field. Fun day out!

Great history view on the development of planes trough the years. And of course a lot of planes to see.

  • 5/5 Erik van G. 3 years ago on Google
Impressive museum with a great collection and good opportunities for taking photos outside. The collection profits from a load more visitors because some of the aircraft need some conservation.

We had a wonderful day strolling through and seeing all the planes. They also have a few cars that were very cool as well. Great activity for little children who want to freely run around and explore. Before we left we made a stop at the Cafe which is inside an airplane! Very neat!

First of all, the Concorde is a replica. Never flew. But was built by a beloved fan. It lacks detail in many ways; windows made of glass, no movable droop-nose and the landing gear is non-retractable. The inside is unfortunately not close to the real lay-out. Besides that the museum is full of things to see, inside is a display of different engines and aircraft. Outside is a large collection of pre and post- cold war aircraft. You can take a peek inside the cockpit from the outside via stairs. You are not able to sit inside of these cockpits. Sad to see some of these aircraft in a deteriorating state. Information is not always given in English, some of the signs are only in German some are dual-language. Some more interactive showcase would boost the connectivity for the younger. Entrance fee of 10 euro's is quite decent.

(Translated by Google) A nice exhibition of aircraft that is dominated not only by American models but also from the former Soviet Union. However, many of the aircraft have been outside for a long time and are exposed to the weather without protection. This is of course noticeable on the paintwork and the windows and cockpit hoods. I think the Conny and the VC-10 are particularly beautiful exhibits. I found the admission price OK.

The permanent exposition is currently closed, but the two temporary ones are pretty nice with good explanation. I would suggest to take an audio-guide however to understand the museum's exposition more.

  • 3/5 Andrea M. 2 years ago on Google
The main exhibition was closed and I didnt know that. I paid the whole ticket and then they told me that only special exhibitions are open. The first one was about soviet artists (so not that interesting) and the second exhibition was about another exhibition that took place there. So it was kinda a waste of money. But the main exhibition should be nice and interesting.

  • 4/5 Dawid C. 2 years ago on Google
Too many things shown, could be better if smaller number of items and artifacts were presented with better focus on them and some story behind. Now the museum gives feeling of a warehouse.

  • 1/5 Malik G. 1 year ago on Google
Germany history section (which is the whole point of this museum), is closed for 5 years. Also no one seems to understand or speak english in a touristic museum in the middle of Berlin. The only sections you can see are mostly filler contents, like Merkels portraits and Karl Marx exposition which are superficially presented. To avoid, that is until 2026.

  • 2/5 E T. 1 year ago on Google
The contents of this museum have been moved due to the building renovation and it won't be open again until 2026!! It looks like a nice building from outside, but they haven't been able to move all of the exhibition's - the permanent exhibition wasn't open in the building it's currently housed in which was disappointing.

  • 5/5 Hey T. 1 year ago on Google
Although I went when the rest of the museum was temporarily closed, they did have an exhibition about citizenships in Germany, France, and Poland. Incredibly interesting with the audio your guide. Staff were very friendly, nice and quiet place to walk around, and it was curated very well. Audio guide was separate yet worth getting. I would definitely go again in the future.

The main exhibition of German history in the armory is closed for some years, due to construction work in the armory. The museum's temporary exhibitions can still be seen in the Pei building. They are dedicated to formative historical events, eras and social developments.
