🎄🎄 Christmas market 2023 🎄🎄 Beautiful Christmas market with amazing surroundings. €2 entrance fee but definitely worth it just for the decorations.

Beautiful plaza where the Nationalist Party staged a burning of books to leave behind the jewish authors and their ideas. Underneath the plaza is a monument you can see with a window on the floor where empty library shelves are shown yo symbolize the books burned.

Festival of Lights 2023: Bebelplatz is one of the few locations that has a huge installation at festival of lights. All the surrounding buildings show different projects. Hotel Rom is usually used as a screen to go through the award winning projects. Usually it's very crowded during festival of lights.

An interesting simple square surrounded by a university, a cathedral, a library and an opera. In the center is a monument to books burned by the Nazis. The monument looks interesting, but it can be invisible for the tourist due to the fact that it is underground. There is only a small glass window on the ground level through which it can be seen. The implementation is interesting, affects perception.

(Translated by Google) A place steeped in history with impressive architecture. If there is such a thing, then this is my favorite memorial. Empty bookshelves in the floor of Bebelplatz, on which this dark part of history is never repeated. From the square itself you have a great view of the Humboldt University buildings and the State Opera.

Bebelplatz is near Humboldt university, this area has a lot of history and stories which are quite fascinating. You can also find the clear glass window in the floor which is dedicated to an empty library.( Yes the glass won't break if you step on it, but don't go testing the strength of it).

I’ll admit, I’ve never been to Bebelplatz before in my months of studying abroad here in Berlin, however during the holiday season it’s 100% worth coming to!!! The Bebelplatz market has lot of wonderful shops that sell ornaments, bags, and other handmade goods. Also I got a hot chocolate and was able to keep the cup which is a really neat souvenir! Since mine is a big cup I think I may use it for ice cream, pens, or smoothies. Anyway if you buy the gluvine (glow wine) you can keep a mug that you can use for coffee and such later. Love this market and definitely think it’s worth going to!!

Gendarmenmarkt Christmas market is held here due to construction at Gendarmenmarkt. It’s free entry Mon-Fri 12-2pm but other times it’s 1€ entry definitely worth 1€ entry for sure. The most Christmas-y Christmas market in Berlin I’ve encountered so far

A historic square in what used to be East Berlin. Surrounded by the newly renovated State Opera, the HU Law School, HU main campus and a catholic church. Infamous for the book burnings during the Third Reich. Close to the Museum Island, famous Friedrichstraße and the Brandenburg Gates.

Bebelplatz in Berlin left me truly captivated. The historical significance of this square, along with its vibrant atmosphere, makes it a must-visit destination. Standing on the very spot where the infamous book burning took place, I felt a profound connection to the past and the importance of preserving knowledge and freedom of expression. The architecture surrounding Bebelplatz is stunning, offering a glimpse into the city's rich history and diverse culture. The square's open layout invites visitors to stroll, sit, and soak in the surroundings. Whether it's a leisurely walk or a quiet moment on one of the benches, there's a sense of serenity amidst the bustling city. The central location of Bebelplatz makes it convenient to explore nearby attractions, museums, and landmarks. The nearby Humboldt University and State Opera House add to the intellectual and artistic ambiance of the area. While it may not be the largest square in Berlin, Bebelplatz's historical significance, architectural beauty, and serene ambiance make it a meaningful and memorable stop for both locals and visitors.

I think it is the only Christmas market that you have to pay entry for, but it was worth the 2 euros. Had lunch in one of the restaurants which was very good. The market itself was full of the usual stalls and we bought some tree decorations

Bebel Platz is a great area in Berlin to visit. This time of year and during December 2023 there was a Christmas Market. Located in the center of Bebel Platz is the memorial to the 1933 Book Burning. One must look down to view the memorial. The memorial featuring empty shelves is a stark reminder of what happens when people are blindly led down a path.

    Z. Zt. The Bebelplatz is a public square in the central Mitte district of Berlin, and named after August Bebel, a founder of the Social Democratic Party of Germany. The square is surrounded by some very fine buildings, namely the State Opera building, buildings of Humboldt University including the building across Unter den Linden, and St. Hedwig's Cathedral, the first Catholic church built in Prussia after the Reformation. There's no cafes or restaurants like in many European public squares. Come here for the fine buildings and monuments! But expect to jostle with other tourists doing the same.

An area with a lot of history, the area is a part of Humboldt university. You can go there from unten den Linden. The architecture is very beautiful, and also you can see the glass window in the floor to the empty library dedicated to the mass fire during the old era when all 'western books' were destroyed along with much other books. The glass is very sturdy so you won't fall if you walk over it but please do not go testing it's strength

Also known as the Opernplatz (it is right next to the State Opera building). Situated on the Unter den Linden boulevard. Really cute Christmas market. Unfortunately they closed it on the 2nd or 3rd of Jan which i found is very short as many would still come to have NY drinks

It is surreal in lights. This square is somewhat at midway between Brandenburger Gate and Berlin TV tower. This entire stretch of 2 to 3 Kms glows in light during Berlin light festival. And, many artist does street performance that adds more vibe and lively atmosphere. Note: Berlin light festival from 6th Oct to 15th Oct 2023. Some of nearby places part of berlin light festival are Berlin Cathedral Berlin Tv tower St Mary's Chruch St Hedwig's Cathedral Brandenburger Gate Victory Column State Opera house Hackescher Market S bahn station

This is an easy easy place to walk past but ...don't! There is an incredible amount of crazy history that took place here in this exact spot back in 1933. There are several indicators of this in the ground at this spot. Look down!

It was a warm autumn day and the Light Festival was taking place in Berlin, so there were a lot of people there.
