I don’t normally leave reviews, but this hostel is terrible. 1) It smells like a urinal on a hot day in and outside 2) There are two showers per floor for everyone and the top half of the glass shower is see through 3) Every toilet has skid marks 4) Weird people 5) The beds and floorboards are the SQUEAKIEST you’ve ever heard. True communist engineering 6) 5 euros deposit to put your own sheets on your bed There are better hostels in Berlin.

stayed only 1 night in the end of August. it is very big. they have so many (different kind of) rooms. the bathroom was rather small, which I don't mind. the check out is at 11. they ask for 6€ down payment for the sheets, and an extra if you want/ need a towel. Tip from me: bring your own travel light towel, safes you the hustle. all the staff spoke perfect English (and more languages) l, they were super friendly and also professional and direct. plus at the bar you can order the best drinks, beers and cocktails (another tip from me!! ) the hostel doesn't allow any alcohol on the rooms. this is a strict rule, so keep in mind. the guest I would describe as young, international, backpackers, goofy kind of people who know how to have fun

I stayed 7 days in this hostel from 31 October to 7 November. It's a great location near all the transport. The staff was great (I lost my headphone and the staff kept it for me) . The bed was confortable. The bathroom were clean. The share kitchen was also very practical to cook without spending lot of money. Aldi is just close de the hostel which is nice. I felt safe in this hostel. But I noticed fews things : - this hostel need a sofa space. There is only one sofa and then only tables for the breakfast. The sofa is most of the time taken. More sofas will be very cool!! - the organisation about the key room is not very simple. I definitely recommand this hostel in BERLIN. Thanks

The ATMOSPHERE is amazing. The staff very friendly and helpful and the vibes are on point. There is a 5€ deposit for sheets but you do get it back when you check out. Security is good where the front desk is very strict with letting ppl in after you show your room number card. There are lockers in the rooms so I felt my stuff was secure here It isn’t meant to be a super nice hostel though (if you’re staying in the dorms at least)The bed I slept on was very uncomfortable but good enough if you’re coming back from clubbing all night. The room gets hot w/no real circulation so I imagine in the winter they’re cold. I wouldn’t say it’s a party hostel but also can say it’s not a quiet one. It’s a good atmosphere/vibe hostel. I like the location, the staff and the friendliness of everyone around. If you are traveling alone and want to find companions to go out and do stuff with this is the right hostel. It’s not the best hostel I’ve ever been too but it is very nice and is what it sets out to be. I personally would stay here again especially if I’m traveling solo. Overall if I could I’d give it 4.3 stars but I can’t so 4 stars it is!

Rooms were spacious. Beds were uncomfortable -- mattress are old and worn out, long overdue for replacement. Quick cleaning is done daily, or at least when someone checks out. Service was generally friendly and professional. We stayed for over a week and was granted kitchen access, otherwise, it's not available to everyone. Laundry available for a small fee. 3 showers in our section shared with other rooms - but we never had to wait long. Good location - 8-10min walk to transportation hubs. It seems that most who stay here are young adults who like to party and some are quite inconsiderate (talking loudly, banging doors even at late hours past midnight). I was not able to sleep undisturbed for 9 nights. At one point, a very drunk girl peed on the floor next to her bed, and next to our luggage. I informed reception and the room seemed to have been cleaned by the time we got back in the afternoon.

Super nice staff, nice place we had a good time! The only thing is that the beds are really noisy, otherwise perfect :)

Stayed here for 5 nights in a private room with my 3 friends. It was an amazing experience. Staff was very helpful and kind. Cocktails are amazing. If you need any recs on places to visit, the staff is very helpful with suggestions. Trains are no more than a 10 minute walk from the location. There's a grocery store that's about a 5 minute walk, and loads of cafes and restaurants nearby. I will be recommending this place to anyone visiting Berlin. One complaint is that the bunk beds squeak every time you make any movement on the bed.. but that's just a little maintenance issue that's easily fixable. Still deserves 5 stars! Very fun experience and a good opportunity to mingle with other travelers!

I absoluuutely loved it here! Everything was clean, good showers, great staff and comfy beds with big lockers beneath em. Met a lot of nice people there, also in the commons room which was kind of a bar. You could get really cheap drinks and hang out. There was a kitchen, washingmachines, everything you need. I really recommend this place!!

Overall this is a good budget place to stay in in Berlin. It is situated in a lively area with plenty of restaurants and interesting shops, and has good public transport links. However, the hostel itself is on a quiet residential street so you won’t be kept awake at night. The hostel itself has a fun vibe; the reception area doubles as a bar and you can socialise with other guests there. The buffet breakfast is very good value for money. The dorms are reasonably clean and the beds are comfortable. (You have to make up your own bed and strip it when you check out, but I didn’t mind this.) There were a couple of things I didn’t like: firstly, check-in is not until 4pm - I’ve never known a hostel to have such a late check-in time. I arrived in Berlin early in the morning and was hoping to be able to shower as I was feeling grubby after a night on an overnight bus - but when I asked if it was possible to use the shower before checking in (something I have been able to do in previous hostels I’ve stayed at), the answer was a blunt ‘no’. Another negative point was the coin-operated lockers they have for storing luggage. A member of staff explained to me that if you want to remove something from your locker, you have a limited number of seconds (I can’t remember how many exactly) before the locker resets and you have to put another 2€ in. However, this is not the case, as the lockers actually reset the moment you open them, which is very annoying. On another occasion when one of the lockers swallowed my money I was told by a member of staff that they couldn’t do anything and that if I had a problem with the lockers I needed to ring the telephone number written on them. I really don’t think it’s fair to expect a non-German speaking tourist to do this. The bathrooms were grimy at times but I don’t really blame the hostel for this, as it must be hard to keep up with the number of people using them.

Clean and silence. Hot water available in the bathroom, towel and bed sheets provided with a previous deposit of 5€ restored after your stay. They also have a lock for 5€ (also restored at check out) and a locker under the bed to store your luggage. There is also a pub where guests can enjoy good beer and nice conversation.

So me and my girlfriend were meant to stay in this hostel for 3 nights. I made the booking through the Airbnb app, because of a push notification they sent me and it turned out Airbnb never saved my preference for 2 guests so I booked for one by mistake, yes this is absolutely partially my fault also. Anyway, I contacted the hostel immediately, more than 2 weeks in advance of my booking. I was asking them if it would be possible to just refund me the room, as they offer such a cheap desirable room it would be no issue for them to resell the room with more than 2 weeks left to the time of the booking and they would be helping me out because of my mistake. They were extremely extremely unhelpful. They refused all requests of a refund because they clearly hoped I would just cancel the reservation and they could earn double the money. They were so shady and underhanded, just for the sake of 50 euro extra, when anybody can make an honest mistake. They were flagrantly trying to take advantage and earn extra money, and now for no reason they are going to have a room for THREE nights with nobody sleeping in there when there are homeless and poor people who have no where to stay in this world. Hostels like this are honestly so greedy and money hungry and I cannot recommend people to not book through them enough. This is the first time I've ever had to leave a Google review for a hostel in my entire year of travelling full time, and all I can say is if there was a -1 star option than Sunflower Hostel would deserve it. Shame on you and your preference for money over honesty Sunflower Hostel. DO NOT BOOK HERE.

The best hostel in Berlin! I've been coming here for 7 years now without a single doubt. Before you know it you extend your stay day by day. Ein Begriff in Berlin! When you know, you know..

Couldn't fault this hostel. Had a private twin room which was comfortable with reasonable beds and the shared bathroom was pretty good. Good hostel facilities with the addition of a bar. 6€ buffet breakfast was simple but good value. Great location close to transport and clubs.

The hostel is great. It's clean, not this expensive and it's a place where you feel comfortable. +Good tastes of music and the people working there are nice. In addition to that, the neighborhood is very nice. I would go back for sure !

I had a great time at Sunflower Hostel. Nice staff, clean rooms and a very good bar to meet new people. I did not feel unsafe or bored once. The area of Freidrichain is wonderful, great bars and nightlife. I highly recommend this hostel and I will return :)

Very nice hostel. Great atmosphere, lovely people working there! The bathroom were very luxurious for a hostel, better than the one I have at home. The beds were very firm. The only negative thing is that the walls are thin, so you could hear everything, which wasn’t a problem for my group, but we were afraid we would keep other people up at night.

Stayed here this past summer and I will be back next summer! Many of the “issues” people mention in bad reviews can be easily solved by talking to the friendly staff. I felt like this was a very authentic backpacking hostel experience. I loved it. Great vibes and location.

frankly kinda dirty (especially the bathrooms), staff takes their time during check in and chats with each other instead of tending to the queue, location is good but the area does not seem super safe. also quite loud at night which means it's probably good if you're looking to meet new people! but not so much if you're just looking for a cheap place to stay. you get what you pay for i suppose 💔

Decent hostel for the price; a good location; lovely staff and nice communal area. We stayed in a four bed dorm and I will say the hostel tends to attract some odd characters due to its location (next to Berghain) but that should be expected when booking. The showers are a plus - much better than your average hostel. Sunflower is also next to Warschauer Straße station which is so useful as it has good links to the airport and the rest of the city! And Friedrichshain is an awesome neighbourhood if you’re into urban art and vibrant bars.

This was a great hostel being a solo backpacker. It's a very social hostel with a really fun bar area in the entrance to meet other travelers. The other nice thing is if you did want to get away from the social area, the door to the rooms is super sound proof, so you won't hear anything in the dorms that is happening in the bar area. The staff was very friendly and chill. I would 100% go back if I'm in Berlin again!

Got to be one of the best hostels in Berlin. The rooms are super spacious and the most comfortable beds I’ve had in a hostel. The staff are friendly and the people are social, sharing drinks in the front lounge. Bathrooms were not attached to the rooms but never had a problem with having to wait for them. Location is right beside lots of restaurants and a short walk to the Ubahn. We didn’t have the breakfast but it looked great

This has been my 5th visit, I had the double room with a perfect balcony in the sun. Personnel was super friendly and professional. It was clean, basic breakfast all you can eat for €6. Sometimes some guests make a big mess and I think personnel diserve a little bit more respect. I am looking forward to my next visit, friends!

Great hostel. Helpful front people. We had a three person room, which included an attached shower (communal toilet on same floor, no access to kitchen) all of which was very clean. No noise at night, but in the morning there was some noise from courtyard and from hand dryers in the bathroom, but with earplugs no problems sleeping. Extremely convenient to Aldi and other grocery stores, restaurants, clubs and bars. 15min walk to train station.

Simple room. The lockers were very narrow meaning I couldn’t fit my small carry on suitcase inside. Even my backpack wouldn’t fit, I had to take out some items. Low security, only one key for each room. You must trust strangers to lock up. Also the door is always unlocked to let others in or you must wake up to let them in in the middle of the night! It makes no sense. No privacy curtains - would have been a nice addition. Staff left me waiting every time I went to the front desk. They were talking with each other, not seeming to work… if they were working, a quick acknowledgment like ‘be with you soon’ is to be expected. It wasn’t a warm welcome.

Atmosphere in this hostel was amazing, such a sociable environment & so easy to meet people. The bar was priced reasonably & the staff were lovely. Showers/ bathrooms were always clean with lots of privacy, beds were comfy & rooms are spacious. Only 1 minute walk from Berghain !! Great stay overall 10/10 recommend.

  • 1/5 Richard B. 10 months ago on Google
unfortunately did not have a good experience. The photos looked nice, but it wasn't how it seemed. Check-in. It was so slow, and the receptionists were so chatty with other hostel guests they could barely focus on my check-in and kept forgetting I gave them extra money for towel deposit. Room. I stayed in 4 bed dorm. My guest mates were so loud, it was so hard to sleep. One of them was a smoker who got up so frequent at night to smoke and open the door, making the room cold. Also my guest mates were stinky, unlucky me. But also the bed was sooo uncomfortable. The cleaning of the room appears questionable too. This is not a quiet hostel. Everyone stays up late and you can hear them talking from the lobby at night. Also this place is next to Berghain, a 24hr party rave club on the weekends, so you have a lot of people staying here to go to this club. The bathroom was actually decently clean. However, there was no hooks on the shower walls so it was hard to put your stuff anywhere. Location, 10-15 minute walk to transit, a little inconvenient. You need to rent bikes is the best way of transportation.

Great hostel for what the price is. Had a 4 people room with a bathroom and a kitchen. Standard hostel feeling. Maybe a bit dark in the rooms, but nothing else to complain about. Friendly staff and a nice bar and outside place to sit in the sun and chill with a beer. I’ll gladly come back.

  • 4/5 Bart B. 1 year ago on Google
A fine place. The rooms were big enough. Most of them did not have a toilet or shower. The sheets were clean but the beds were an abomination. I slept terrible due to the extremely old mattress. The drinks in the shared area were priced very reasonable and it had a nice atmosphere. I would definitely recommend this spot

  • 5/5 alyssa d. 6 months ago on Google
Really enjoyed the stay at Sunflower hostel! Great team, hostel was a quick walk to the train station and the rooms were really spacious. The beds are very squeaky so if you’re a light sleeper keep this in mind. It’s also a very social/party hostel which is something else to be aware of.

  • 5/5 Will 5 months ago on Google
Great hostel, it’s super easy to meet other people here and it’s close to all the night life. Everyone seems to be down to go clubbing at night and I met a lot of cool people. If you are looking for a chill place to stay, I would probably not recommend this place. Best place to stay if you’re looking to check out the techno scene in Berlin though!

The hostel was very nice and comfortable, perfect to spend a few days, the customer service is amazing, the style is hippie, the breakfast very good and cheap and you can eat whatever you want. The rooms are very clean and the bathrooms too.

  • 4/5 Swez N. 6 months ago on Google
Great affordable hostel to meet people in a exciting part of town. Generally, it is more of a party hostel. Do understand that if you're sharing a room here that people will be coming and going at all times. Saying that, it can be very chill in the week. Most of the staff here are really helpful. I think I met only two male staff members who were rude mannered. I'd give this place 5 stars if it wasn't for that factor and also the fact the wheeled locker chests under the bunks are super noisy.

Best place I’ve ever stayed, only stayed two nights but I wish I stayed longer so will definitely be coming back. The rooms are nice and we got a bathroom to ourselves. Very lovely and helpful staff and also a great downstairs bar area. We met so many lovely people, the bar was always bustling every evening. We were in a group but this is probably the best hostel to stay in if you are solo travelling because you get to meet so many people and find things to do with them. Good location, not completely in the centre but easy to get to the centre, and close to lots of clubs. Cannot recommend this hostel enough.

  • 1/5 stephanie z. 5 months ago on Google
The rooms have no system. Normal hostels give you a bed number so they know what bed should be checking out for the day. We arrive there was no free beds as they hadn’t been stripped. Reception staff fixed straight away. The next day I arrive back to the room and my entire bed had been stripped and all my belongings missing even though I wasn’t checking out for another 4 days. The bed below me was checked out - not stripped so another person arrived to no free bed. The bed was clearly occupied with my clothing, AirPods and portable charger under my pillow. Didn’t receive anything back. I have never ever had this issue at a hostel. It is such a simple fix by assigning bed numbers.

Private room at very expensive price but the quality is rough, with green vomit inspired art on the walls. Stayed there for three nights because we chose the uncancellable option - biggest mistake - paid ~130/night and got... 1. Terrible bed quality, we chose the double bed options but had two mattresses at different heights. 2. "Lovely" wall art of a vomiting being, with greenish bulbs of vomit decorating the three main walls, I don't recommend after any night drinking or even if you just intend to sleep... weird choice of decor for a room. It made the room feel very overwhelming and uncomfortable to be in. 3. Dirty floor and suspicious mattress covers, tiny very old towels against a 6Euro deposit, a broken side lamp that looked like it could spark any moment. 4. No full size mirror in the room or bathroom, very inconvenient for a clubbing city. 5. Common showers with no hook to keep your clothes dry, unless you want to get naked in front if other guests. No place to put soap. However they were clean and good water pressure and temperature. 6. Extremely weak wifi, we struggled to book another hotel for our final night. 7. The location is however very good, and the staff we talked to were mostly nice and friendly. Would not recommend, you can find better for cheaper in the same neighborhood, including hotel rooms.

The showers are so warm, the beds are comfy and everything is clean. The atmosphere is really nice (great music in the common room) and the staff is great. The location is good too, many bars / restaurants at 2 mn, public transports same. By far the best hostel experience I've ever had and the price is so cheap for a capital. I'd go as far as to say that if Rivendell existed, it would be the Sunflower Hostel 🌻 will definitely go back

Codes hostel with a nice flair. The rooms were clean, the showers and toilets unfortunately less so... Of course, it always depends a lot on the current users.

Rooms are very big with lots of windows. Super nice people behind the desk, very kind when you need things. Location is superb, walking distance to many clubs and otherwise next to a metro stop that can take you anywhere.

This was our first time at a Hostel. Check-in was easy and very informative. The sheets were clean. The room was clean and not crowded. The bathrooms and showers were clean. The Hostel is close to the Berlin Wall Memorial, bus stops, the train, restaurants, and a mall. We liked talking to our roommates. Two were from Belgium, one from England, and one from Switzerland. We are from the USA. We learned so much talking with them.

The basics are here… a safe place to sleep, quiet at night time. Also very trend inside decor. But there are far better hostels for the same amount of money really close by. First, they are using a key system from the 1980s (this is the only hostel I’ve ever been to this way) that requires you to constantly keep track of your key (there are no key cards). EVERYTHING requires a deposit, even putting sheets on your bed. There was no locker in my room because the residents were living in my room and spread their stuff to every locker. Bathroom had standing dirty water. Wifi doesn’t work in the rooms. Common room is small and overcrowded. Not at all the staff’s fault… they were very nice and helpful. This message is more for the owners!

  • 5/5 Clifford R. 2 years ago on Google
They have a bar at reception, but it was a bit pricey in my opinion. The bed was comfortable, the location is great, and the price for the room is good. They also have a laundry room.

  • 3/5 Mariana D. 2 years ago on Google
The location is convenient, like the living room /bar in the groundfloor, ideal for working in a quiet place. But the cleaningness could be much better.

Quite a nice place with a lot of cool people, with a good location. First time ever not staying in a dorm in a hostel, but had booked a double bed room, but was quite disappointed that it had 2 single beds instead of a double bed.

Everything was wonderful, clean, friendly people, good showers. There was only two things that bothered me quite a bit. The first is the guy at the front desk. He was really was quite unfriendly and it made things awkward/brought down the mood quite a bit. The other thing is the darkness of the hangout room, it’s cozy, but way too dark unfortunately.

  • 2/5 Liam H. 2 years ago on Google
Not the best experience. Although I found it clean enough, my roommates weren't satisfied with the level of cleanliness in the rooms (dust and dirt in various places). For me, the issue wasn't cleanliness but rather (1) a very convoluted and inefficient entry process that requires you to ask the front desk for the key or to buzz you in - if there's a lineup at the desk, this very simple and routine process can take several minutes (2) the lack of light in the common spaces. I found it was almost always very dimly lit and there are no light switches accessible to the guests (3) I showed up one day late for my multi-day booking and since I no-showed the first night due to my travel arrangements being interrupted, they cancelled every day of my stay without a refund - to their credit, they rebooked all days for free as a courtesy except for the last day, which they filled with another guests' reservation, therefore leaving me without a place to stay on my last night (4) the wi-fi was very spotty in my room on the second floor (5) the kithen on the second floor is poorly equipped, the fridges are not well-maintained nor clean, and there's an inequality of item accessibility depending on your floor. For example, the third floor kitchen (which is inaccessible to 2nd floor guests) had many more utensils and a small oven, which we didn't have on the second floor. The kitchen was also among the less-clean ones I've seen in European hostels.

Very friendly staff. I can also say the bed was comfy, but since I went in January I was a bit cold in the nights. Bathrooms were very clean as well as general areas. Bar is a bit quite and dark, but drinks are pretty cheap. Great location with near supermarkets and train and metro stations.

Nice place, with a good style and warm atmosphere. The staff I found at the reception bar was great, we even had food prepared for us by the bartender (nice tall Italian guy) and spent the evening enjoy each other’s company with other guests. Great experience!

the bathrooms were not very clean and once had no toilet paper at all. the bathrooms are unisex which I felt uncomfortable with as a female. they use this really old key system for the rooms that is weird and not very practical. one staff member in particular was very condescending to my friend for no reason. they do not care if people are very loud outside and when they are you can clearly hear them in the rooms. you have to make your own bed and bring your sheets down at the end of your stay. the common area is very dark it is hard to see if you are journaling or reading. no privacy curtains on beds. the breakfast was alright. good location. definitely not the best hostel I have been to

The hostel's location and services are acceptable for the price I paid. The rooms were quite old and there's only one key for the whole room (basically, it's kind of easy to get into the room, even you're not a guest)

Amazing experience. The staff was SUPER nice and accommodating. I had made a mistake in my booking and they were super friendly about getting it fixed. I would definitely stay here again. The cafe/bar downstairs is a perfect place to meet new people, the breakfast is super cheap and filling. The location is super ideal and very close to everything.

Everything was good and fast. Welcoming staff even late at night (another hostel said they only could accomodate me between 14:00 and 17:00, what?). Perfect breakfast for just €5, cheaper than anywhere around. Perfect and cheap rooms. One bitter moment: I forgot my charger there. They did not respond to email for 2 days, and later they said there was no charger at all.

It was an amazing stay! Met some great people, the staff were always helpful and friendly and the rooms and bathrooms were clean. Before going, I was worried about the sharing key thing that some reviewers mentioned but it's really not inconvenient at all. Super simple system. Location was great! Would definitely come here again.

Great hostel. I selected this hostel because it was budget friendly, but it turned out being one of the best hostels I stayed at! Very clean, social downstairs with quiet bunk rooms and close to the metro. The breakfast was also a good deal. Only thing that could be improved is the key system. You need to be buzzed into your room each time you enter, versus being given a key directly to your room.

Lovely space, very social, good location, lovely bar area and nice big bathrooms, fairly spacious rooms as a hostel goes. Near loads of clubs (but you need to know how to get into them or you’ll get turned away. Generally really nice hostel, good price as well would for sure go again

This hostel was extremely friendly and welcoming, the staff were friendly and had good recommendations. The lounge set up and general vibe were amazing for meeting new people and making new friends. Comfortable bed and pillow. One of my favourite travel experiences.

A very pleasant stay. The reception staff were incredibly welcoming and hospitable. The whole check-in/check-out process was incredibly smooth and went without any problems. The room i stayed in was clean, looked very nice, and to my surprise, even the beds were very comfy. The bathroom and toilet were also clean and i had no issues with them (besides the hot water taking a while to come on, though i believe this is out of the hostel's control). All things considered, this was a five-star hostel and a five-star stay, and i will most likely be returning here next time i come to Berlin!

Good location and good service. Unfortanely, the 5 Euro breakfast was not avaliable due to Corona situation. There is a bar below the hostel, good atmosphere.

One of the most incredible stays out of all my times in Berlin. Was made to feel right at home. Some of the most amazing staff! Cat, Francesco went above and beyond to make us feel welcome and kept us entertained throughout our stay! We will be back without a doubt!

Bathrooms are clean, and bar downstairs is nice. Plenty of people downstairs to hang out with. Their key system is weird though and you have to have an employee buzz you upstairs (can take a minute if they are bartending or checking people in), and there's not really a way to lock the bedrooms since there's only one key per room. Location is a 10-12 minute walk from metro station.

Very bad hotel. The environment is not reliable. In the lobby at the entrance, which is located at the reception, people were sleeping on the sofa. The staff are good looking but very rude people. You can stay in better places for better prices. I forgot to take pictures of the rooms. However, a girl I met in the lobby called me into her room to show her body tattoos. We took selfies. Maybe it will give you an idea.

My friend and I, both 22F from USA stayed here for a few nights in September. Great location and I overall I had a good experience here. Pros: the rooms are clean, feels very safe, the lobby bar is nice, great location. Cons: might have just been bad luck but the people staying in our room would talk very loud when they came back in the middle of the night, the lockers in our room were unable to actually be locked, room was very hot at night. I would recommend staying here if you’re looking to party in Berlin but not if you’re looking for a great nights sleep.

i stayed here in the summer of 2023 with one friend in a triple room. the staff were very nice - although beware there is a fee to pay on arrival (i think it was 20 euro or so). other than that the hostel itself is well placed near a train station and very sociable - we ended up going on multiple nights out with people we met there. they also make decently priced cocktails, and have a good overall vibe. we also enjoyed the turkish cafe nearby as well as the kebab shop round the corner. overall, highly recommend!
