A surfing paradise EDIT: Need to change my review from 5 to 2 stars, because the price policy is getting ridiculous: First they increased from 42 EUR to 52 EUR for 60min on the wave. Now they decided to increase it to 60 EUR during the week and 70 EUR during the weekend for only 45 minutes! Basically you're paying 70 EUR, the group is still 12 people, you have 45 minutes. So you're getting 45/12= 3.75 minutes of surfing for 70 EUR. I wish wellenwerk good luck with this change. It's literally cheaper to book a surfcamp anywhere in Europe.

I had a beginners course that was really cool. Well set up, nice, relaxed people on site. The briefing was well explained. Surfing was fun on an artificial wave. Unfortunately, during the week there are 12 participants at the pool, so you can't surf as much as you would like in an hour. The changing rooms are a bit narrow and since the showers are right next door, the floor is completely wet. There needs to be a better separation. Otherwise it was great and I'll do it again. The toilets are great.

It's really fun and not as difficult as you think. The only thing that is a bit unpleasant is that there are 10 people per course, as only one person is allowed to be in the water at a time. Therefore, in a 60 minute course you have a maximum of 10 minutes in the water. But otherwise a great thing

Out of a 1.5 hour session, you can expect maximum 3-5 minute wave time. Don’t think for a second that you will be wet for 1.5 hours —> The session starts by searching wetsuit, change, shower, do a 20 minute warm up, 15 min intro. This is unacceptable in general (apart from safety intro), but then they also pack 12 people in a group. Really can’t recommend this place! Tip of the ice berg is that the session after us had to break up because of constant technical failure. I hope they got compensated. Hope the place can improve orga & tech

On the website says that the sessions are 90 minutes but in reality we entered the wave 45 minutes later. We took a beginners class without a bar as we knew how to surf in the sea but had never surfed this type of wave. To our surprise, we are 15 minutes waiting for the instructor, then 15 minutes of explanation, then they give us the wetsuits and we change another 15 minutes for this, and finally stretching like yoga another 15 minutes. In the end we surfed the wave for only 45 minutes out of 90 minutes. Also in a shared session with 10 other users, which means that we were actually surfing for 5 minutes each. A DISGRACE AND SCAM (This should be indicated on the website and not mislead people). Nice staff but this does not justify the scam.

I was there last Sunday. The place it's very nice and it was a great experience to surf a wave like this for the first time. But the beginning was terrible. I understand that it's important to make a warm up in every sport activity, but it wasn't professional at all and to much time. I was also disappointed the way the warm up teacher treated the clients. He made them feeling bad and critised for being much older, not flexible enough or not good enough during the surf after. That's is the opposite of transmitting a good and fun atmosphere. And I felt like I don't want to come back. All together that feeling after paying so much money is really sad.

I really enjoyed the session. The guys were super nice, it was not too crowded as there are limited people. I guess everyone want to ride the wave more often generally - so some fewer admissions in line would be great.

I took a beginner course (w/ 5 people) and also attended an intermediate practice (w/ 12 people). I really enjoyed the experience, as the facility is fantastic, the staff is amazing, and the teachers are very supportive. However, in my opinion, the only big issue is with 12 people in the class and a 45-minute session you will get around 3 - 4 min of individual practice time (45/12 = 3.75 which translates to 3 min and 45 sec). To maximize the surfing opportunities, I only recommend booking classes that are not at full capacity as based on many negative feedbacks here and the standard social media vague answers nothing changed, and I don't expect them to change this anytime soon. Otherwise, it will be expensive and frustrating to have only four opportunities to surf, as was the case for me in the intermediate class.

We were quite disappointed with our surfing experience. The experience is made out to be 1.5 hours on the website but after warmup, getting changed and ready you only spend 30-40 minutes on the wave. Hard to tell how long as there is no clock or timer to monitor how long you are there for. Anyway unfortunately the limited time equates to roughly 6-8 goes depending on the group size, so most of the time is just spent waiting and watching. One thing that really annoyed us is that the instructor fail to control how long people stay on the way for, meaning good surfers sometimes stay on for 1-2 minutes. This is very frustrating especially if you make one stuff up, fall straight in and then have to go right back to the end of the line. The instructors should be monitoring how long people surf for to keep it rotating fast and keep everyone active. Also we found it very frustrating that the instructors also surfed during the session. Both of our instructor surfed maybe 5-6 times and for a long time each go. This gave us a negative feeling because we only had limited time and it felt like we were just paying a lot of money to watch the instructions surf. Overall not worth the money unless your a millionaire.

I have to agree with a lot of the past reviews when I say it feels like a scam. The staff are friendly, professional and informative however the experience in a whole does feel like a scam / waist of money. When you book for a 90 minutes session, you are only left with 3-4 minutes actually on the wave with groups of 12. The talk though before the session starts lasts about 30 minutes. Then everybody changes, we were left with a 5 min warmup, then the board selection the finally time on the wave. With the groups, each person received 3-5 times on the wave. Was an enjoyable time without all the waiting. If you have the money (60€) and time (90min) to spare then it's ok :)

Fun experience and friendly staff. The only downside is that beginner groups are too big, so you don't have an opportunity to surf much, just 4-5 times until you fall, which is 20 seconds maybe, if you are a complete beginner. Smaller groups would make much sense, especially for the price.

We had a great time there. If you are not surfing, you can wait in the cafe with a warm cup of coffee. Check their motorcycles and some fancy hipster photos.

Booked a training session (without an instructor) for me and my son (13 years old) because we can both ride waves on the sea (even in high waves) and I have already surfed in other CityWaves. It started off great, it worked well for my son and we had a lot of fun. But suddenly a trainer showed up and started talking to my son for absolutely no reason, saying that he had to book courses with teachers first and that the wave was too powerful for him. This could lead to panic and surfing in the CityWave is much more dangerous than at sea (??!!). So he spoiled my son's mood and he didn't want to surf anymore. Thank you for this educational masterpiece! Maybe as an operator you should show children the fun of sport and not scare them. I've been surfing for 35 years, my son has been surfing since he was 6 and I signed the disclaimer. If you have to take a course at Wellenwerk before you can surf alone, then they shouldn't have paid us and let us in in the first place. I had said at check-in that my son hadn't been in a standing wave before, so they just said I had to explain everything to him because there was no trainer there. So 60 euros were gone and the mood was in the basement.

The groups (I did beginner sessions) are too big so you don’t get much time surfing (like max 5 min total during the whole class if you are lucky(!) and don’t fall immediately). I find the price too high for this! Also I have been there two times and both we did no warm up, although it supposed to be a part of the first 45 min off water.

Great location, great teachers, great atmosphere with restaurant and bar/lounge. You feel very well looked after. And the price is really okay. You get a wetsuit and, if you want, a helmet.

We went splashing and surfing with our kids... HIGHLY RECOMMENDED ! ! ! Nice welcome, it's great how children are introduced to the water and the waves. Our son's fear disappeared very quickly. The trainers teach the kids quickly and brilliantly! The children had a lot of fun and were certainly not there for the last time. And I want it too... 😪😁

Beginner Course: Great. Hooked on the surfing course in Portugal, I wanted to continue feeling the waves in Berlin. Equipment is included and after the introduction, explanations and warm-up, you get on the board and the coaches literally take you by the hand. The permanent wave takes some getting used to at first, but after the first hour you'll get the hang of it. After that there's only one thing left: when can I get back on the board?

When I came off the board and I landed on the bottom which broke my fibular and I needed an operation with a plate and 8 screws. Although the instructor was nice enough to help me to the changing rooms and out of the building, the establishment is refusing to give me an accident report and won’t answer my emails.

Unfortunately, there are always too many people in the course, endless waiting and if you take a little more risk, you quickly fall into it and get even less out of it. New Year's Jam consists of even more waiting. That definitely doesn't make any sense anymore. So it's not really great because of the overcrowding. Otherwise the fun factor would be 100%. Little commitment from some trainers is on top of that. Raised purely commercially.

I was surf-infected during my 5-months stay in Thailand and Bali. Once back in Berlin, I was looking desperately for a possibility to keep training and voila! Wellenwerk 💙 *** Genuinely friendly staff, cool activity. *** My only minor contra-comments (not really criticism): 1. too expensive, not for under-average earners if you want to train i.a. once or twice per week. 2. 10-people per (intermediate) 45-session makes you wait too long. You just hope your co-surfers fail fast, so you get to surf more 🫢 As said, just info., not criticism, maintaining such a facility is surely expensive! 🫰

Get your ride today. It makes too much fun also for beginners. Advanced surfers will send a difference but can also enjoy there hobby in Berlin. The staff is super friendly, helpful and explain you all the way through what to do better. We had a group of 7, which was just the right size of a group.

The guys improved their process and the whole concept. It’s super well organized. Just had a bit of a waiting time at the reception. The guides give useful tips and help you out if you need any help. It’s super fun experience to surf the wave.

Pretty expensive fun for surfing 4 times because the course was very full. But a super nice team, great service - you get a free drink - everything is very clean and everyone is super friendly. The boys had a lot of fun - unfortunately we can't do that often given the prices - that's a shame. For everything - except the price (although I of course understand that all the maintenance / water etc. has to be paid) there is the absolute full number of stars. Thank you for the lovely time here. If the opportunity arises, we'll come back 🙏🏼😘♥️ Thanks - also to the guys with the 'help' - very friendly and helpful. See you soon!

We had booked the “Kids Surf & Splash Sessions” for our kids (8+10). The kids were welcomed in a very friendly manner and all their questions were answered patiently, then we started changing and the subsequent theoretical part. Here too, everything was listened to because every child understood it and all questions were answered patiently. Afterwards the boards were handed out and we went into the water. The kids got used to the pool excellently, which, in addition to the increasing intensity of the water speed and the creation of the wave, also brings with it a very high level of noise for technical reasons. Seen this way, it could seem a bit threatening, but the relaxed nature of the trainers meant that all participants had 100% trust and no doubts. When it was said that it was time to get on the wave, there was no stopping it. Our kids would have loved to add another session. A little tip for the parents watching inside the hall: pack earplugs 😉 About the surroundings: The entire project, staff, surf hall, bar, restaurant, shop exude a great, chilled atmosphere that makes you want to stay there longer. We will be back definitely!!!

The experience itself is 5 stars, but they cram so many people in the same slot, that you only get to spend 5 minutes (out of 45) in the water yourself. The rest is spent waiting for your turn.

The hall is great. Friendly staff, normal prices for something like that. When the weather is nice you can also sit outside and chill out. If you come by car there is a parking space in front of the door, otherwise you can easily get there by public transport. I've been there several times and will always be happy to go there again.

Super cool thing for warm and cold days if you miss your waves, of you never stood on a wave and want to learn or or if you want to stay in practice. Instructors are friendly and nice and give helpful advice. However, it's super expensive.

Nice experience, very friendly and professional staff. Felt almost like a mini vacation. Feedback of the coaches was very helpful and on point. If only there would be a liiiittle bit more time to surf...But I guess if you're skill level improves you'll spent more time on the water instead of in it.

Unfortunately a big failure. We had booked the beginner session and are really absolute beginners. The instruction consisted of a short YouTube video, a short explanation of how the water cycle works and leaning back and forth on the board. Then warm-up exercises in quick succession because there was no time left. We were greeted at the pool by surf instructors whose names we didn't even know and were immediately let into the wave. It felt like it was on an assembly line. There was no opportunity to ask questions, get used to the board or anything else. Get into the wave, go under, next one please. Twelve people in a group. When we broke off, the group after that was already sitting in the hall and the next group received the “safety briefings”. These consisted of “keep your hands above your head” and “get out of the pool quickly”. If you've never surfed before, I think this promotion is a complete rip-off. The employees are not to blame for this. The company constantly receives the same criticism here and clearly hasn't changed anything. Which is really annoying. At least be transparent enough to make the assembly line process and anonymity clear on your website and not offer it to absolute beginners. Then you can think about it again beforehand.

Unfortunately I have to agree with the other reviews. Price and performance are disproportionate. The participants feel like they are being processed as quickly as possible, my total water time was a maximum of 2 minutes (for a course fee of around €60) and if a participant managed to stand on the board for longer, he:she was awarded after approx. Waved out for 30 seconds to let the others onto the water. The time to change (15 minutes) is part of the surfing experience and even during the warm-up everything happens very slowly. As soon as you go to the pool, it's the other way around and everything has to happen super quickly. The man at the edge of the pool who was supposed to put us in the water was very unfriendly and sometimes a bit brutal. I was touched a bit roughly several times because he was so hectic and stressed. I felt like a product and not a customer. A pity.

Super cool!! Unfortunately, the groups of 12 people are far too large... given their size, you sometimes only get 4 turns per session and €60 is simply far too much! You should make groups of maximum 8 people then it would be perfect!

Standing on a wave on a surfboard for the first time in my life and I felt very well looked after. I found it very well organized, very friendly and a great way to clear your head. When falling in the water, you have to be careful not to land hard parts of your body on the ground mat, otherwise you could get scratches. A wetsuit is certainly helpful to reduce injuries. Otherwise the risk of injury is much lower than I personally expected, especially if you manage to drift out of the wave in a controlled manner and carefully fall into the water. In any case, a nice experience and everything is on offer for beginners like me, through to advanced users and professionals.

The Wellenwerk is undoubtedly a nice place with a nice ambience. The friendly staff helps you feel welcome. However, our visit (with two children: 12 and 14) was so badly affected by the high number of guests that the two of them don't want to come here again. The kids waited in line the entire time and barely got a chance to enjoy the experience. It is particularly frustrating for the children as they cannot fully enjoy the trip. And while the experience is actually quite fun (if you get around to it), they don't want to spend that much time in line again, especially for the money spent on it. It's a shame, a great place and poor organization..
