At first glance Der Kegel isn’t high class bouldering gym as it isn’t not as modern as many gyms in Berlin, changing rooms aren’t comfortable, mattresses aren’t very clean (especially outdoor bouldering parts), but for me it is still very nice gym for many reasons: You can buy monthly membership for the lowest price in Berlin, routesetters change routes frequently and there are quite various boulder problems. Unlike many gyms in Berlin, locks for the lockers are also included in price and your stuff is safely kept in there. There is also nice bar and area for relaxing after hours of bouldering. There are two bouldering halls inside and two halls outside the gym, one extra room is for stretching and physical exercises. Overall Der Kegel is excellent gym for amateur climbers and considering its membership price, it is even the best, but there are still some issues that are easy to solve and improve, for example, cleanliness.

It looks unassuming at a first glance, but don't let this fool you! It's bigger on the inside (I thought I would be able to climb all problems in my category in under an hour, but ended up staying for almost three), the problems are varied and even the easier ones seem to be quite interesting and not all too straightforward. Extra points for having gender-neutral locker rooms and bathrooms, it's the first time I see something like this in a climbing gym, and as an nb, I was quite impressed by it.

Great ambiance and enough walls to climb. The reception staff is also kind. Just that they don't have bicycle pads to lock rhe bikes outside the studio.

Great cozy place to go bouldering for a few hours, has a really nice vibe and an outdoor area. Usually go with friends and go to the gym after climbing (they have a small gym there too).

With environments for every weather, you can climb in or outdoors, cheap and fun activity, several times to choose from morning to evening, their booking website let's you see thr amount of free spots which is cool when you are trying to go when less people are in. The place is very big too and you can rent every piece of equipment you want. they even have a tiny gym with limited but effective appliances!

Very unfriendly and stand-off-ish staff. She (short hair) would definitely let you know that you are not welcome there. The vibe is very cliquey and kind of hostile. Also the gym is super dirty and filthy everywhere.

Some walls are made of real rock which levels up the experience a lot. Outdoor area is a vibe May through September. After-climbing refreshmenrs are available. Card payments.

This is my favourite gym in Berlin for climbing. I’ve been to a few larger places like Ostbloc and Boulderklub but I find the problems here the most enjoyable, interesting, and well-thought! The are also suitable for beginners and people with shorter reaching range (like me, I’m 5”4). In addition, the staff is incredibly friendly, and the facilities are well maintained. Despite the modest size of the hall, it never feels annoyingly crowded; instead, it exudes a cozy ambiance. The warmth and friendliness of everyone here create a sense of a tight-knit, supportive community—which is something I rarely experience at other gyms.

Cool, urban climbing centre. It was difficult to find the entrance for us as it was already night time, and as a tourist it kind of felt a bit unsafe as a girl walking alone (felt like I was purposely walking into a dark alley). But! Amazing little spot. Lots of options, indoor and outdoor, mainly bouldering.

Very beautiful and creative space for boulders. There are vegan food options ans well as vegetarian. The only but is the worker behind the counter is unfriendly to the limit that she is rude. She had the worst client service, even for Berlin standards! Possible to do indoors and outdoors. It is so weird that around the bouldering area outside people can smoke, I find it very disturbing for people who does a physical activity.

Fun place to visit, we did 2 hours of bouldering before getting tired. A lot of the climbs are top out boulders too. Had an easy crack built into one of the bouldering walls, and outside the concrete tower has some interesting features where you can find some finger jams. Staff member was very friendly. He also switched to English for me which I appreciated

Good vibe. Inside and semi-outside bouldering, fun climbs. Not too expensive. Cool T-shirt’s. Sometimes free food

Best climbing gym I’ve been to so far Lots of bouldering options and great atmosphere. Also inclusive for beginners but also keeps it challenging. The best thing is that it’s quite cheap for what you get (compared to France/UK).

Really nice and clean place. It can get busy. So, best to go right when they open.

Berlin style bouldering place. Great that it’s also partially outdoor but I feel like that the place can be more clean - esp regularly cleaning the grips

Maze-like building offering many bouldering routes within its nooks and crannies for both indoor and outdoor. There's also the eye catching lead wall overviewing the whole complex. It's only a 5-10 minutes walk from the nearest station but be warned for newcomers, the entrance can be tricky to find. Routes are plenty and varied in terms of difficulty and techniques. Friendly staffs and lockers with padlocks are provided by them as well. True hidden gem!

Shut up and climb! The gym is very inclusive and they do a lot to keep it interesting and up-to-date. The staff is pretty friendly. Problems can be addressed, if there are any. Music depends on the taste of the receptionist, as in every gym. The place is pretty crowded sometimes...that's not an argument against the place, but for it.

Great climbing gym especially for climbing with rope. Some part of boulder area is also outside, which is nice. Too many easy boulders and not enought medium difficulty boulders.

  • 4/5 Simon S. 1 year ago on Google
An allright place for those of us who want to do both rope climbing as well as bouldering. It's not a very large place but the "cool factor" is prominent. Good problems, and all right outdoor lead climbing routes.

Super atmoshere, good routes - a fee of em are a bit old, could use a cleaning / re-set.

Backyard vibes, well-balanced route setting and perfect coffee make this an institution in Berlin’s climbing scene—located in the cultural centre of Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg. Can’t recommend enough.

It‘s nice that they have a variety of wall to climb but the pad could be a bit cleaner.

Relaxed bouldering gym with an emphasis on powerful short boulders. Great atmosphere, good coffee and friendly staff. Small but acceptable exercise room. Much bigger in the summer due to the nice outdoor area that has every degree of wall. Nice crowd. Still worth a visit in the winter though. The outdoor area is protected and open though all seasons, so if the temperatures allow (or you're tougher than me) you can always go outside.

😠 I am super disappointed with this membership. I pay €70.00 for the M package and my bookings are constantly canceled by my partner by email or telephone. Because it's full and I'm told that the club members have priority, even though I've booked a week in advance. I think it's cheeky when I book an...

👍 I have to correct my 5 star rating from 3 years ago. It really got incredibly dirty. The greasy handles are creepy. How should you clean them? Your brushes are falling apart... The locker room is too small and smells so bad that I can't go into it without feeling sick. The shower has been closed...

👍👍 Great bouldering hall in Berlin! Super nice staff and a great children's area. Here the children can run around, climb and play. There is also a cave for resting with radio plays and LED lighting. 👍 Boulders were good, also fair in terms of difficulty, the screwing style required a lot of technique and commitment, which I always think is pretty cool. There is a separate yoga room and the strength area is small but nice. The seating areas were inviting when they weren't packed with backpacks or...
