Do not recommend. The room was filthy and rubbish was left on the bed which the receptionist said are “cleaned every day” (see photos). We moved rooms and there was more rubbish. No lockers in the rooms so bags can be easily stolen. The website stated there were power sockets, but there’s none. The toilet and shower are in a combined room which is shared between 6, so only 1 person can be in the bathroom at any given time. The bathroom toilet Is disgusting, so dirty and doesn’t flush. Only one person can use the “guest kitchen” at a time. The kitchen doesn’t not have a toaster or kettle and very limited appliances and cutlery.

The hostel is nice, but it was impossible to sleep, the other guests kept tv and lights on until late. A quiet hour policy would make the experience much better.

Horrible experience. Save your money and stay elsewhere. I have never written a review before but after waiting three weeks for a response to an email I sent regarding my stay (I emailed them a week after the original email to follow up and plan on sending another one soon) I feel as though I have no choice. The room I was in had toenail clippings in the bin, a ~5cm dent in the door and stains on both the wall and the sheets. I was willing to look past these issues until my property was stolen by housekeeping and was subsequently lost. It took forever to speak to someone about this due to the lack of staff and the hotel did and has still done nothing to rectify this. I had another booking made with this company at a different location but decided to cancel as I did not want to risk having a similar experience. I asked for a refund and was told there was no proof that payment had been made and to send any proof to an email they provided. I sent this email three weeks ago with proof of payment and still have not heard anything. These weren't my only issues either. Disgusting rooms and even more disgusting customer service. I feel sorry for the FOH staff as it is not their fault I and other guests have had such horrible experiences but they're the ones who have to deal with it. The lady at the front desk was alone and trying her best to help everyone, I feel sorry for what she has to deal with every shift because of this horrible company. Please save yourself and DO NOT STAY HERE

Rooms are so dirty, garbage in and under the beds. The kitchen (cook top and microwave) is locked at all times , and you have to pay a €20 deposit to use it for an hour max. This place can hold hundreds of people and having one locked kitchen is inhospitable. Elevator works 50% of the time, also kind of janky. The bathrooms are disgusting. Bathrooms don’t get cleaned, us and our roommate have been replacing the toilet paper, and taking out the trash. None of the bed outlets work, the wifi doesn’t even reach the top 3 floors. Some front desk members are pretty kind, chill and funny. Muffins at the front are really yummy (warmed up, so awesome)

They were asked a lot whether the toilet was shared or outside. I took a video and showed it in detail. If it's a double room, you have your own toilet, but it's just outside the room. In the video, it is seen that each room has its own toilet, but there is no partition wall between the rooms. Rooms and linens were clean and spacious. The only downside is that it is about 25 minutes away from the center by public transport.

Had a great stay for 5 nights! Room perfectly cleaned and very spacious, well isolated so I didn't hear anyone next door. Calm location so it's really peaceful, but yet there's a great connrxion to the city via transportation or biking. Nice and friendly staff, happy to help out at anytime. Large choice of items at breakfast. Totally worth it!

A 10 minute walk to the tram that takes you directly to the center of Berlin. Breakfast is spectacular. Private rooms could be cleaner (stains on the walls and some stains on sheets), no air or fan, only open windows. but for the price it's okay. Recommend for a budget trip.

Rooms where good but 25€ went missing. Left it on the table. When I came back later that day it was gone. 🤷‍♂️. I checked all my stuff, asked all the people that where there with me. No where to be seen. Other than that: rooms where not cramped, reasonably big, hot showers but you really cannot expect to much from this place. I mean, for what you pay for you really get what your pay for. I wouldn’t go here again.

NO PARKING/PARKING FINE We were travelling by car, wrote beforehand and was told we were guarantied a parking spot. When we came, we were told there were no spots left and to park out on the street. The next day, we get a fine for illegal parking although there were no signs indicating it and even the german-licensed cars behind our car got fines too. The staff did not mention anything about special rules, and we still don't know why we got the fine (I had to go in to ask how to get into the guest parking and they only said to park on the street not anything about any special rules). The parking spot was WHY we chose A&O, bur that was a poor choice apparently. The rooms were alright, although the cleaning could be better.

The owner or something came to our room After some kids had been running around in the hallways keeping us awake and they had blamed it on us and he threatened to throw us out and didn’t understand why we where awake when the kids was the ones keeping us awake. The food is honestly hideous and they run out of food to place out on the buffet after 30 minutes. Nice way to end our 10th grade school trip… I DO NOT RECOMMEND, AND I BEG U TO STAY AWAY. ALL AROUND THE WORST HOTEL I’VE BEEN TO IN MY LIFE

Durty! Reception staff is nice and helpful. I had problem with payment. Online payment was pending and when I arrived at the property I had to pay cash because they didn't receive the money. On the next day they completed the online payment and take the money from my bank account. After 3 days chating with Booking customer service they gave my money back to my account.

I dont understand the good reviews. Multiple problems, oh boy. At first when we wanted to pay for our stay in advance, they told us that we can pay only in cash, because the terminals werent working. Lovely. After 2,5 days of constantly asking about the terminal they said "we dunno". I mean, I understand its clearly not their problem that they didnt work but for the love of God, you can at least call the software company or the company who installed the terminals? We have to check out in the middle of the night to catch our flight, but being unable to pay without a solution is a big problem. Anyway. The hostel is clearly understaffed. At every point during the day there was only one person working - mind you this was a Friday, Saturday combo with a loooot of people around. At the counter the only person working dealt with the customer service, check-ins and the buffet. Unbelievable. Also, he didnt seem to care that 3 seperate people came to complain about a stranger using/breaking into their room, one of the guys said that his door was open when he got his room, without bedsheets and such. We got to listen to basically everything because each time we stood in line for 30 minutes at least to get info of the terminals. The other guests were making very much noise in the already busy hall area and the security guy didnt seem to care. The guy working in the front desk just shouted at them and that was that. TLDR, very unhelpful staff, not a great experience, would not recommend.

A really good hostel at a very affordable rate ,was there with my hubby and kids. We booked the family room and the kids got their own bunk beds. Everything was on point,we even got complimentary breakfast buffet. Although,we didn't have much time to look around and go sight-seeing because we came in late and had to leave very early but we still enjoyed our short stay. Don't hesitate to give it a try on your next visit to Berlin,i highly recommend it.

Loved the facilities, family room was great and and clean an amazing value for money. We also liked the children's corner and lounge and the fact that bus stops right in front of hostel. The breakfast buffet was more than we could ask for and the design of the hostel friendly and pleasant throughout. The only suggestion for improvement is the reception. Whilst the staff were friendly and amazing at multi-tasking, the reception was seriously understaffed. We had to wait in the queue for a long time and were been given a wrong room number twice so had to go up and down three times with kids and luggage in tow.

The room mate were very unfreindly. We were 4 person in 4 bed dorm. but the other couple were very rude, they ocupied every place in the room. I think people should be given breif introduction at the hostel regarding sharing the room and maitaining dignity.

Transportation is near. Nice and clean rooms, with a bathroom and toilets. A small downside: the toilet door did not close properly (in several rooms)...which is a bit inadequate for a hostel where young people or groups of students go. Privacy is important. The reception service and security guards are very pleasant. The kitchen staff members are unfortunately less so. And the organization in particular of the self-service is not at the top. Queuing for 1 hour to be able to go in the cafeteria when it was almost 9 p.m. and we had already queued for 1 hour to enter the hotel… it is therefore difficult for me to put more than two stars ⭐️

It's a very big hostel and not very cozy. But the rooms were good and the staff was friendly. Also the breakfast was pretty good. The location is a bit from the city center but it's well connected with trams + S-bahn so it's still easy to get around. My biggest issue has been the contact with the company. Accidentally made a double booking and have had a very hard time getting in touch with them about this (took over 3 weeks until they got back to me) It's finally been solved now but I'm hoping for a quicker reply next time All the best // Rasmus

Great location and price, that’s it, otherwise not so good. Understaffed leading to stressed staff, which hung up on me when I was speaking to them on the phone. I wouldn’t had to call if the information on their site was better but it wasn’t. The cleaning is not that good either. They have a security guard at weekends. I would not recommend the breakfast (7 €) served here, it’s a bit bland, instead go down to the mall at Genslerstraße by the tram station. You can get better stuff for around the same price, max 10 €. If you’re looking for food, a proper meal that is, head to Medi Restuarant.

Good place to stay in Berlin, for us it was more like a hotel, since our family, 4 of us have been in 1 room with our own bathroom and toilet. The room is tight and the window can be opened only for ventilation. The guest car parking was full, so we had to look for a place to park, found one 500 m from the hostel, next to the museum, which is not bad, and it was free of charge. Given the appropriate price, the place is fine if you need to spend couple nights in Berlin and don't expect something luxury. There is a museum nearby, I recommend to visit that one, but make sure you make reservation online in advance

The hostel was quite far away from the city center but to be honest it was the cheapest option we had. The room was ok but there was not good ventilation. You only can partly open the windows therefore it was extremely hot and smelly at night. The toilets were clean but there was a disgusting smell coming out the tubes. You have to leave 20€ deposit in order to use the kitchen which I think is quite exagerated. The price for the beers, coffee, etc was also expensive. What it also disappointed me was the lack of lockers so I won't recommend this hostel to anyone carrying laptops or important things. Service was ok but nothing special.

It is great hostel with really hospitable staff, who welcomed us late at night and provided everything for a good night's sleep. Even though the location is slightly far from main areas, the rooms are well equipped and the stay was enjoyable.

An alley in Berlin is cleaner than the bathrooms here. The place in general is ok, but the fact that the bathrooms are so disgusting and stinky and that the sink trap didn't work definitely made staying there not a good experience.

Dear A&O Kolumbus team! I was staying at your A&O Hostel Berlin Kolumbus from 10.11.23 - 13.11.23 Buchungs-Nr.: B5-154158 guest ala aivar. You have a beautiful house with a eight floor, nice look around and Straßenbahn is near. OK, nice! Anyway, you do have a nice place A&O Kolumbus and next there is only my recommendations. Also, this review is written as private only to Ms. Kalina Zahaneva because I did promised to do that to her. This review is not for public use. I think that Hostel Kolumbus needs desperately a renovation, elevators and heating system and bathrooms are not good! But I love you Hostel Kolumbus because there is one at your service exceptional Ms. Kalina Zahaneva. She makes everything mediocrity very good and better! Behind the counter she spent alone all 12h shift and it was a lot of fun with her, by the way! A&O Kolumbus have very lucky to have Ms. Kalina Zahaneva! I promised to make a poem just for her, by with her Kolumbus is much better place; here it is....... On a dark desert highway I did think to Berlin and Ms. Kalina Zahaneva cool wind in my hair and Kalina......... Warm smell of coffe, rising up through the air Up ahead in the distance, I saw a shimmering light and Kalina I had to stop for the night There she stood at the counter Ms. Kalina And I was thinking to myself "This could be Heaven or this could be Hell" Then Kalina lit up a smile and she showed me the way There were voices down the corridor I thought I heard them say Kalina Welcome to the Hostel Kolumbus Such a lovely place Such a lovely faces Plenty of room at the Hostel Kolumbus Any time of year And you can find on here Ms. Kalina Any time of year (Any time of year)

There should be lockers with passcodes in the rooms to secure belongings when sharing the room with strangers. This would provide a more peaceful sleep without the worry of things getting stolen.

Amazing place to spend a few nights. We took the family room and it was nice and spacious. You can also play foosball with friends. The breakfast is also recommended. There are many vending machines and the reception is open 24 hours.

The room was ok, but there was no daily cleaning, you could not pay the balance by card (in fact we had to withdraw with the internal ATM, which was stolen 30 euros in commissions). The location isn't bad, but honestly it's not worth it. I do not recommend.

If a place only for one night. It's not a hostel, it shouldn't be announced as a hostel. The staff is pretty rude. One night is enough.

Really disappointed! We arrived to the Hotel at 12:00 and we wanted to do early check in, because we received email about it. but unfortunately receptionist told us it's not possible. So we waited until our check in time (15:00). And here we go. The room is not ready. They told us we will have to wait up to 1 hour! We were with 1 year old baby. It's in acceptable. I have never seen such a disrespectful behavior.

Unfriendly staff, long queue for check-in or asking a question ( almost only one person, not hiring another person). low-speed internet, essential you have to beg them to send someone to clean your room. All the vending machines are out-of-service. Not answering phone calls.

The hostel makes a very unkempt impression, for example there were a lot of cobwebs in the stairwell and there were leftovers and garbage on the floor. In my room it was clear that only superficially vacuumed. To top it off, the towel in the bathroom had clear make-up stains from a previous user. Real gross. In addition, you could not open the windows of the rooms properly. With 35 and 6 people in the room, this was really unreasonable. We were there with a school class. Although we booked dinner, we didn't get any food on the first day because "we weren't in the system". We could show that we paid, but nobody cared. They didn't look for any solution either, but referred to the head office. There the children stood after a long day of arrival without eating. At least we got the very helpful tip (sarcasm) that there is a great Asian restaurant nearby. On the second day we got dinner, we made a lot of phone calls to clarify this. As the dining room is very small, the food was cold every time we came to eat. Supposedly there are house rules, but no one seems to care. When the security stands right next to the screaming and drinking young people (24:00) instead of doing something. In addition, many little things annoyed me, for example, sandwiches and snacks were advertised with a special price, but this no longer applied. Apparently you are not able to change prices, rules or flyers independently. In general, the staff at the front desk seemed overwhelmed. No point could really be clarified, since reference was made to the office. Apparently they are only there to sell drinks to guests rather than attend to any concerns.

For this price, don't except luxury. Far from center. Noises, irrespectful guests, +/- clean bathroom. However, my bed was super clean + was super comfortable. If you are looking for a place where you can just come and get a quick sleep, it is perfect. Just don't except much from a place like this.

My friends and I stayed in the Hostel for 3 nights and it was not really as we expected. We've been to a&o hostels before, for example Berlin Central Station and Hamburg, therefore we were used to a nice and cozy atmosphere and a nice price-performance ratio. But the room we got in this hostel wasn't any of this. The bathroom wasn't aired at all, which caused a very nasty Odor, which probably came from the toilet. The toilet itself was disgusting. The room also wasn't that good. That might've been because of our late booking, but we still paid a lot for a 4 Person Room, which includes a double bed and a bunk bed, a TV and a clean bathroom. At least that's what should be within the realm of possibility, when booking for 360€ in total. But there was neither a TV nor a clean bathroom. I do think, that this hostel has better offers than what we got and also the Service was quite nice.

  • 4/5 ALI J. 1 year ago on Google
I slept there for one night and I can say it's generally a good place to be. The lobby is kinda fun and always alive but there was a long waiting line for checking in the room and even though there were two desks, only one was working which was disappointing considering how busy it was. I got a room with 3 beds for 90 euros a night which was a quite good price. There wasn't any hand washing soap and washing powder in toilet which annoyed me a lot and also I had to pay 4 euros for laundry (only washing, not drying) which was shocking and I was expecting it to be for free. Hotel is far from center but there is a tram station close to it which makes it easy specially if you have that 9 euros ticket. Staff are very welcoming and helpful. I checked the breakfast buffet which was for 8 euros and it was average so I decided to eat outside. All these minor problems sound like nothing when you consider the price of the room in the middle of summer in berlin! You won't regret going there at the end!

Had a private (for 2 people, with private bathroom) room. Bathroom is not accessible from the room. No place to put your clothes, all covered in dust. Toilet was covered in someone’s urine. But the most “pleasant finding” was the dried nasal discharge on the head of the bed.

  • 4/5 Jason B. 1 year ago on Google
Check-in was delayed by 45 munites due to no personal being present, problem was resolved by a few quick calls from the cleaning staff and security guard present. Room quality is relatively good, especially given the low price. Location is a bit far off when coming from the centre of Berlin, there is a Bus stop out front.

I booked the 8 person dormitory and it was so dirty and dusty like it hadn't been swept in weeks. I only booked it because a&o hostels I've stayed in were good but this was just not it at all. The house keeping staff aren't doing anything.

  • 1/5 Dominika P. 1 year ago on Google
Very unpleasant stay. Don’t recommend to anyone. Rooms are dirty and smelly. Sheets had disgusting yellow stains and beds were all covered in something that looked like old pieces of food. Don’t let me start with the bathroom… it was probably never cleaned. The cleaning stuff came few times but they never cleaned or did the refill of toilet paper. Our roommate was smoking weed inside the room and screaming on the phone during the night. There’s no elevator to the 8th floor and for one whole day the elevator was not working at all. Vending machines are not working and workers don’t let you pay with card at the reception.

WARNING! WORST A&O HOTEL EVER. I made a reservation for a previously purchased voucher. As there were no double rooms available in the booking system, I booked a family room. However, I informed that I would not need such a room and, if possible, asked to be converted to a double room. Do you think someone answered me? I have submitted my residence preferences: a room on the upper floors, in a quiet location, away from the elevator, not in the sun. Only the latter was fulfilled, perhaps by accident. I was given a room on the lowest level, above the exit of the building, overlooking the dumpster, next to the playground, in the hall with an exit to the stairs, which crackled with a bang again and again. Equipment is known sparse, but cleanliness was poor. Long hair everywhere. Dirt in the nooks and crannies. It was enough to raise the mattress. In addition, the stench from the toilet and the noise of flushing water from the levels above. Terrible. But before that, contact with the reception desk during check-in. I have not seen any bigger haos before. Nobody knows anything and has no control over anything. Difficulty communicating in English. I had to wait for the room to get ready as it wasn't ready. I reminded that I do not need a family room and that I only need a double room. I asked is there another that can be assigned to me? A shrug. But in the meantime other people received their room keys, although their rooms were also allegedly not ready and check in was possible from 3 pm. Not only that, to get the key, you had to queue again, behind the people who were just waiting to check in. Really. I don't recommend choosing this place. This is the worst A&O hotel property I've ever been to. It is a waste of time and health.

We were a large group of youths and adults (43 total) and some of the rooms had blood and/or feces on the wall. Most rooms had not available towels in the room and there were not any towels we could get from reception. Staff was nice, however one of the staff started arguing with some of the kids when they found blood on wall. Dinner was tasty!

When we first came to this hotel it was AMAZING the buffet is good the bunk beds and the people and more, but what really made me disgusted and angry is that THEY STOLE from my mom. Here's the story We've been booking for room service to clean our but they never really came, so we booked again and they usually come in the morning to clean so we went out to Alexandraplatz in the EVENING and when we came back and checked our room and it was sooo clean (our room was really messy), so then my mom instantly went to count her money and keep in mind she brought FORINT and EURO to the country, but somehow the Euro was good and we were in Germany, then my mom counted the forint and it 80,000 = around 200 euro, so obviously we went to report, but my mom knew it is long gone, but still reported it, then the receptionist called the manager of the cleaning service or something and my mom talked to him/her and he said he will call my mom again the next day, but they never called my mom After that money stealing me, my aunt and my sisters went back to Hungary and my mom still stayed in Germany and guess what? THEY STOLE OUR FREAKING KETTLE it was 25 Euro = 10500ft They also stole my mom's Slippers for who knows what reason And they stole our food Explanation There is like a guest kitchen and fridge where we can keep our food mom kept all our food there for who knows what reason and my mom said that they stole that too we had like Nigerian noodles, rice, bread and etc. I was really disappointed in this hotel and I that it was going to be an amazing trip guess not.

If I could put 0 stars for the room I would, the day we arrived there was garbage (including food) under the bed and every surface was dirty, including walls, floor and beds. We spent 2 hours cleaning by ourselves because even after our complaint to the reception nothing happened. I strongly recommend to look for another accommodation.
