My second visit at Sandino, and I was very pleased to see that nothing has changed (my first visit was 4 years ago). Amazing place, probably the best hostel I've ever been to. Sadly I was not able to spend much time hanging out at the hostel in this case, so I hope I will be back! Also, you can get a good night's sleep here even in a 12-bed dorm, everyone is very respectful and the nights are quiet. Cleanliness: top! Kitchen/living room: lovely! Staff: really nice and helpful. The location is a bit far from the main attractions etc. in Berlin, but the tram lines are reliable, including at night (at least that was my experience). The area is quiet and felt safe at night.

The rumours are indeed true. This is the best hostel in our planet. In fact, it's just unfair to compare, since it's simply on another level. As the mural says, you are welcomed in the Sandino community, and that's exactly my view of this place. It's an oasis of connection. It's just impossible not to meet extremely nice people here. You will form deep connections and friendships that will last a lifetime. There are so many spots to chill and meet people, there is a beautiful, green, alive garden that makes you forget you are still in a city. And, really, the way everything works just provides a tremendous energy of freedom, love, and self expression. There is even a cinema room, just to understand how much there is to the place. And a super nice one at that, with all sorts of detailed comforts that make you feel like you are in the best home ever. It's all so natural, and beautiful. In general, the attention to detail and all the extras that Sandino offers are crazy to explore, and you can tell how much love and energy has been put into every single corner of this amazing place. I could really write a whole book about it, instead I will just say that if you are a solo traveler that really loves to connect with people, this place is everything you have ever wished for, and more! At least it's for me, and I just can't wait to be back next year ;) Oh, and special mention to the beautiful staff! They are all super nice, very friendly, and genuinely happy to have you here:)

the location is good when you want to stay away from the center. The Wifi is good. In the night it can be cold in dorm as there is no heating. When you put your things in the locker a kind of white paint sticks on your bags and clothes. There are no curtains for the windows, so after sunrise it's bright in the dorm and it's harder to sleep.

I believed in those good hypes and paid my price. This place is very cold in winter, the heating was very weak. The owners had a very wicked personality. You have to be a party animal to even like this place. There were people doing drugs and stuff. But more importantly, this hostel is not really an accommodation. It was more of a community. You have to be accepted to enjoy your stay. So for a casual traveler, it is never a good fit (that's why the price is so low), and the staff would be very cold to you and will not even help you. Once you party with them, and become one of them, only then they'll be kind to you. So stay away if you're not heavy drinkers or party-goers. Life is too short to be hanging out with degenerate people like these.

I had an incredible stay in a tent at this place for over 2 weeks! The friendly staff, perfect location, and fantastic atmosphere made my experience truly memorable. There are a couple of supermarkets nearby, and the M5 tram will bring you quickly to the center and has a good connection with other important lines. The owner and employees go above and beyond to ensure guests, even those staying in tents, feel comfortable. I loved the nightly fires and the well-organized "cinema" for watching interesting movies whenever I wanted to chill. If I will be back in Berlin, for sure I will stay again at this hostel!! (If I can find a place, because it's always booked). Highly recommended!

Welcoming and friendly staff and travelers. Clean bathrooms & showers. The Community kitchen & fireplace were a good place to spend the evening, listening to other peoples stories about their travels. We had plans to go out to a club, but the hostel was so nice that we decided to stay. The pet chickens were nice, they would let you pet them. The place was so homey and comftrable, haven't felt this well rested at other points during my trip. I strongly reccomend this place, and i plan on going back there again <3

The best hostel where I have been. There are a central outdoor area, where you can find the reception, common area and a kitchen. There are 2 big enough bathroom, a cinema and a yard with a small garden where aromatic plants are to use. Rooms are big with not too beds, and are really cozy. It have lockers inside. Have another bathroom and kitchen. They have a lovely camping area. And of course, they have 3 kitchen around and a TV where to see a long the night! If the weather is good, you going to enjoy a lot this hostel with all the wide open space to seat, eat or relaxing, while when it's not, will be more complicated to have a good experience (reason why they close in winter). They give a great reception and assistance a long your host. They provide you towels or ear plugs for free if you want. Their activities are meditation in the morning, at night you can watch one of the great films they have in the cinema or seat around the fire and share experiences with others guests. In my experience the people who you find here are lovely. Maybe it's not so near of the center, but from the airport is only one transfer and about 30-40m while to go to the train station is directed by using M5 in 30m. Around are few restaurants and supermarkets like Netto or Lidl. It's ideal also to come on bike, while do it on car could be more complicated to find space.

Really chill friendly place. Lovely hosts and nice environment. M5 Tram close by into the city centre. Bakery and decent Netto nearby with v cheap beer. Everyone there was v trustworthy and you are supplied a locker. However, people can walk in as they please so don't leave out anything important. Nice environment to drink or talk in the evenings or after a night out. Beware of fake inspectors if you're free riding and don't give any form of ID or money. Get the police in order to pay a fine if you don't know if they're genuine.

Wow this might be the best hostel in the world. A true home away from home, I will be returning any time I'm in Berlin -- even if I had a place to stay it's so nice and friendly there from the great ppl this place attracts to the INCREDIBLE staff.

The best hostel I’ve ever been to in my life! People are absolutely lovely and friendly. The place itself is wonderful and I enjoyed having beers in the garden. I came with a friend of mine and we met new friends at Sandino. It was very nice to hang out with them. Plus: i slept very well in a very comfortable and pleasant room.

This is one of the best hostels I have stayed at. Such a nice chill, social vibe. They have campfires every night, cute movie screenings, and card games available encouraging people to all hang. Everything was super super clean as well. They have free chickens roaming and even a live channel on the TV to watch the chickens sleeping in their coops. All the staff are super friendly as well. Honestly couldn't recommend enough. Only downside is its a bit out of the centre, but only like a half hour tram ride so all good.

If you arrive outside of reception hours read this!!! Don't ring the doorbell lol you'll wake up the owner. This hostel is fantastic and has a great garden and common area. Rare to find a real hostel with a community these days.

Room: We stayed in the "Fabrik Room" and it was lovely and spacious. Very comfortable bed and a lil table and a couple of couches. Very bright and open. However, it looks out on to the main common area so it's not 100% private. You could close the curtains/windows obviously but this makes it quite stuffy and hot. There's essentially a trade off between being cool and noise/privacy. Services/Amenities: All of the staff were very lovely and welcoming. The kitchen was pretty decent size and only felt a little crowded a couple of times. The also wash your clothes if you pay a small fee which is nice. Theres also a backgarden area with some vegetables/herbs you can pick. The bathroom was setup with multiple showers just with curtains over them. They are hand held only so I found it a bit difficult to wash my hair but they were kept clean which is always good. Free hairdryer available too. They also played movies in the lil cinema of a night - super cute. On arrival they also give you a little Berlin survival guide which was very useful. Location: Decently far east from central Berlin so could take some time on public transport to get to places further west. Two tramlines have stops which are accessible by a short walk from the hostel. Shops, bakeries, restaurants and more all available within walking distance. Highly recommend going to the nearby Backerei down the road and, trying the kebab pizza from Sandino Bistro nearby. The positive of the location being out of the city is that the area is very quiet and chill. I'd also recommend taking a short tram ride down to Friedricshain Volkspark - it's absolutely gorgeous. Overall, vibes were wonderful, very affordable, met some lovely people and could definitely see myself staying here again!

Great place, good idea to organise everything that way you could feel magic of community. Rooms, tents, kitchen, fire place, table tennis, herbal garden and chicken walking around and the best people the create that please. I'll differently back again. I highly recommend it.

This hostel is such a great and friendly place. Everything is really clean as well and the private room in which we stayed was big and comfy. It’s also a nice place to connect with people and meet new friends. I 100% recommend this place and would definitely go back!

Lovely place! The staff is great, the facilities are very clean, and they organise plenty of activities for if you wanna stay in for a night. Also I loved to just sit in the garden, that's a really unusual thing to have for a hostel.

This hostel was really neat. Along with being a super affordable hostel, the staff was incredibly kind, the room was clean, and the entire atmosphere was calm and comfortable. The bathrooms were squeaky clean as well. This hostel is a little out of the way and I definitely got lost trying to find it, but it is a super neat place to stay for the night and definitely worth the trip to get there.

Best place ever. You can't get anything above that for these prices. I stayed there with a friend of mine in the big dorm and fell in love instantly when entering in the Courtyard. The Netto supermarket is just 5 minutes walking, and the tram station is even closer. Great to connect with people from all around the world and enjoy casual nights. We've also shared cuisine we cooked and tips to visit Berlin (particularly for the night clubs). If you hesitate on where to crouch in Berlin, don't hesitate any longer. This is a must. And I WILL be back for sure next time I visit Berlin.

This hostel was amazing and was a true home for me whilst I settled into my new life in Berlin. I’ve made friends for life at this hostel, and thank mischa and all the other workers there for an amazing time! The chickens and the garden are also a plus.

Lovely hostel with nice yard and common area/kitchen. Friendly helpful staff on site and good connection with M5 tram. Located in a relaxed, quiet area of Berlin. Definitely not your average hostel, expect something special with a distinct vibe of its own.

this place has such good vibes. it’s a little slice of hippie paradise in the middle of Berlin.

This place is simply amazing! We visited during a very hot period of temperatures rising to over 30 degrees on daytime and it really felt like we were not in Europe anymore! The staff are very friendly and the facilities and tents are very clean. With the big community area it is easy to make friends and I would really recommend this hostel for people travelling alone or people who are looking for that kind of 'community feeling'. However, if you are a light sleeper and want to go to bed early this hostel might not be for you.

Loved the hostel! Super chill vibe, kind staff, everything is clean and tidy, they have movie nights and a fireplace to unwind at night, also a ping pong table. They are located a bit far from the touristy spots, in a residential neighbourhood but you have many trams that will take you straight to the city center. I would definetly recomend staying there.

If you go to Berlin and do not stay at Sandino, you are a FOOL! It is, hands down, the best hostel I have stayed at in all my time in Europe. The rooms and bathrooms are clean, the staff is SO friendly and helpful. It felt like a home away from home. I enjoyed hanging out in the gorgeous commons areas and meeting people from around the globe just as much as I enjoyed exploring Berlin. I really can't recommend enough. A fantastic hostel run by the most welcoming, warm people.

We asked them if they could borrow us a tent to camp because we couldn't bring our own, and they gladly did. Great experience, amazing place, warm community. A small paradise in the heart of Berlin.

This is the best hostel I’ve been to, honestly. You don’t feel like it’s a hostel, but rather some community. Rooms were super clean, beds comfortable, bathrooms spotless. You even have a private bathroom (the one you share, but you can lock yourself in and take a nice, hot shower). People were amazing, everything is so well organised. Book a stay in Sandino!

Not Human people I checked out at 11:00. After that I asked at reception if I could leave my backpack to see a little more of Berlin without carrying it. However, when I arrived to pick it up, the owner (a guy with glasses and horrible teeth) almost kicked me out. And I just needed to charge my phone a little to continue my trip! I found it disrespectful. If it were in Brazil, this guy would already be dead!
