Went here couple times before. But not anymore. Such a disgusting experience reading how they work with negative reviews. These people should go take a customer relationship course before writing anything like that. I hope no people respecting themselves would ever go here -- that´s a shame! (curious what will they write me proving my words about their disability to work with negative feedback and only being able to insult customers) Lol they just copied a crazy answer provided that I´M NOT A MAN. omg why these people are running businesses.... hope no-one who respects themselves would "stick" with Books&Bagels ever again

This is really meant to be a review of anything aside from the books (where the selection is pretty nice). Their WiFi is horrific, I've never been to a Berlin cafe with connections that slow. The food is decent but slightly overpriced. Atmosphere is nice when it isn't too crowded and the music is usually fitting. Edit: They also seem to have a hard time accepting legit feedback.

(Translated by Google) Bagels and other pastries are delicious. The coffee tastes good, but is not outstanding. The price may be a bit too high, but that's Friedrichshain. But what is not possible: How to react to criticism here. The comments on negative reviews are completely inappropriate, level and childish. So you scare away potential customers and rightly so! Addendum to the owner's response: I had written exactly two reviews with 2 stars on Google Maps. Once for “Books and Bagels” and once for “Books and Bagels - Shakespeare and Sons”. Apart from that, I had no other interaction with Books and Bagels. The statement of harassment on "various social media platforms" is not true and is completely baseless. The owner apparently posted my original rating on Instagram and as a result, various people commented critically on this action. This and the manner in which the owner replies to my two reviews of “Books and Bagels”, “Books and Bagels - Shakespeare and Sons” and the general reaction to critical reviews (anyone can read this for themselves) seriously leave me in the dark care for the mental state of the person who wrote the answers here. Then just a star. I have never experienced such behavior based on an evaluation. Incomprehensible! Einmal für “Books and Bagels” und einmal für “Books and Bagels - Shakespeare and Sons”. Unfassbar!

Love the place. However, cldnt really enjoy the bookstore, as the shop was crowded with the bagels hunters.

Nor only does the owner needs psychological help(see every comment she leaves at a negative review) a decent introduction into labour data privacy laws would also be helpful.

I cycled by a few times and thought it would be cosy.I am not commenting on book selection I think it is good. I have had many a good coffees in Berlin but this place serves a burnt flat white which is tiny and more of machiatto. I asked for a new flat white but gave up as it tasted burnt yet again. Their fresh mint tea should be brewed in their kitchen before being served. Also overpriced, they mention they brew bonanza coffee beans in which I’ve been to other coffee shops in Berlin that serve this for a much bigger portion and more affordable price! This was 3.10 euros for a portion that was suited for a fly. I will not return to try anything else.

Good looking store that caught our attention from the street. The books and the smell of the pastries created a nice vibe. But service was sloooooow and it was nearly impossible to find a seating: more or less a hunt to get a seat, which made the environment stressful. My latte was sadly forgotten underneath all the other orders. After reordering I received a very delicious coffee. Decent bagels that you had to wait for over 20m. Overall nice looking concept, but you don’t get value for the price you are paying.

Closes thing you get to a NYC bagel probably. I loved their lox…a lot of salmon. I would add a few extra cappers and more onion to make it perfect :) be prepared to queue but don’t worry the food will come fast and it will be well worth it. I really liked the bookshop fusion. Interesting books both in English and in German. A few people also working from here.

A really nice store, with an amazing selection of books to browse whilst waiting for your bagels. Unfortunately they ran out of lox whilst we were there - this was rather inconvenient since it was early in the day. Otherwise, the turkey sandwich was still wonderful. Would definitely visit again and have bagels and coffee with a book :)

Excellent selection of books. The place is luminous, the staff is friendly. We paid for our books and drinks and spent a good time there. Lots of vegan or gluten free cake options that looked delicious. Good vibes only!

The concept is good. But, this cafe filled by notebook users. You can see people with a notebook at "no notebook" tables. So readers have to wait so long or have to leave.

Service was really ordinary, but if you can manage to get a table, it is always busy, the coffee is good and the bagels are nice. For a place that advertises itself as bagels and books and has a whole library to read from there was not one person reading. Except a bunch of people on laptops. It's a bit $$ for what you get considering you have to return your dishes. It used to be a really lovely place but obviously got really trendy and has a hipster vibe. Probably wouldn't go back.

This place always has the creepiest vibe, and something feels off. Their brownie tends to change a lot in taste- sometimes it’s really good and ooey, other times it is dry and chalk like. The bagels can taste decent, but their prices are ridiculous for Berlin. Update: I’m definitely not a troll and have been here upwards of 10 times over the years.

Very cute place with loads of books. Mainly fiction. Unfortunately the Young Adult section was lacking a bit with barely any books in stock :( I did however get 3 books and a t-shirt. Would’ve loved to get a drink and some food but the line was quite long and it was very hot inside so I didn’t want to stay in too long :( I definitely recommend this place though 😇

"I absolutely adore the Turkey Bagel at this charming spot! The bagel is freshly baked, and the turkey inside is so succulent. The dish comes with a side of crispy chips and a tangy pickle that perfectly complement the flavors. Plus, the overall ambiance of the place is truly captivating.

Very tasty bagels that are always freshly prepared when ordered. Very good brownies (incredibly delicious and creamy, melt in your mouth!) and other sweet things, the coffee also tastes very good. Friendly staff, simply cozy and really recommended. When the weather is good you can sit right on the street or inside the bookstore. Of course, everything is also available to take away!

Heard that this place has the best bagels in town. Came for the bagels, but rather fell in love with the atmosphere! I like so much the concept of the library inside. You can buy or lend books. They try to push you not to work on your laptop, and this is why I am deducting one point, but the service people are still very friendly..Ah, and the bagels are not bad :)

Despite the long queue on the weekend and rarely finding a seat, i love this place and what it stands for😌 it’s a really good selection on English language books where you can find classics as well all latest trendy books. Also decent coffee and nice bagels. I like the crowd as well. Just be mindful that it is expensive.

I passed this place several times on my M10 trips and always wanted to see it inside. First problem was that it was very crowded and not easy to find a table. I suspect that the problem is all those laptop people that buy a bagel and stay 4 hours to work in a place that’s pretty small when packed. Perhaps only the window seats should be allocated to working on the laptop and the rest of the tables for normal customers? 🤷‍♂️ Once I saw one place is available, ordered a cappuccino and a cream cheese bagel, paid and gone to book my place, so that no one else would sit there. On my way I kinda heard that you must take your own coffee from the place where you ordered it, which came out to be true because the coffee was waiting for me when I returned to the register. I tend to find this weird, as the bagels are brought to the table… Bagels were good, although I did not have yet an American bagel, but I liked the taste of the whole thing. I also understand why all the people are there working, as the atmosphere is chill, with good enough music, there is a buzz but no one talking really loud or standing out too much. I edited some pictures on my camera and I wasn’t bothered for about 1 hour. Now, regarding prices, juices, sodas, teas that are already bottled are a bit expensive. You can buy cheaper options at the corner bad looking store on the corner and even cheaper at convenience stores, if you can go without drinking something at the location. 4.5€ for a bagel is an ok price for me. Cappuccino was pretty good, base on my standards, where the coffee does not stand out so much from the creamy milk and foam, which creates a balanced drink, and the price was standard for coffee shops. I will try it again on my next visit, especially if I will stay in the neighborhood.

Admittedly only had their coffee but it’s absolutely amazing. I’ve never been able to have coffee unsweetened before but the coffee here is incredibly flavorful yet sweet. It’s incredibly delicious that I’ve resolved to calling all other coffees (especially instant) dirt water. The atmosphere is also really nice and friendly, most of the books are in English too!

I've lived in this area for 10+ years and used to LOVE this place. The food and pastries are still good, however the staff has become more and more rude and really not interested to serve you at all. It's such a shame. The last time I wanted to order a bagel the employee first turned around and didn't want to serve me? and then just said " We don't do Bagels anymore" ? ok? There's other places around that are as good that I'm going to frequent from now on.

I wish I could give more than 5 stars. We loved this place! One of the best coffees I've ever had (and I'm picky), amazing bagels, very friendly staff and books. What else do you want? Even on a crowded day, everyone was so kind! We will surely come back.

I come here whenever I am graving for a tasty bagel - and they have a great variety of them. However you have to be prepared for queuing for ages as there is no obvious process of whom to serve at which time and which order.

We have enjoyed visiting Shakespeare & Sons for many years. We became aware of the shop with the typical Jewish bagels through a report. And the Prague-New York combination has a really positive side to it. We asked ourselves what could be different? And so we just had to try the crispy dough pieces. By brewing the dough rings beforehand, the outer crust becomes really crispy and gives the bagel that special something. These come in different variations, with herbs, grains and so on. Even in the documented version there is hardly any limit to the variety. Eating it on site is definitely recommended, as the bookstore exudes a very unusual flair with its international collection. For us, the store is a very special spot of typical Berlin culture. A visit here is absolutely recommended!

Books, bagels and coffee? What more could you want? This is a great little place and I love to visit regularly. These days it’s very popular and gets quite busy, so if you want to find a table or browse the books, come early. Recently during a couple of really busy periods there’s been a mistake with my order but when I’ve said something it’s usually been easily fixed and the staff were apologetic for the error. A favourite thing to do in summer is come for a bagel and coffee and read in the sun on one of the tables outside.

Good reads, friendly staff - a small & cozy place of hipsterish Berlin. It was noisy due to a protest march nearby at some point however this wasnt the fault of the bookshop.

I really like this place. Really small but great selection of new books! A wonderful selection of classics and quirky material and an extra bonus is the bagel shop within. The only reason I give it 4 stars and not 5 is that it's more expensive, but I'm still going to continue shopping here. I highly recommend checking it out.

Perfect place to browse books on a Sunday in Fhain. The egg-poppy seed Bagel is incredible, you can also buy their own cream cheese and hummus to go. What really made my day was they sold Challah bread which is not something you find easily in Berlin. One negative point is that, like in a lot of other shops in Berlin, the bathroom is now off limits. Seems a bit exaggerated for a place that could be considered a restaurant, but maybe it’s city covid19 regulations.

Well, the books and the way they are sorted, it is really great. I expected that the place is bigger but at the end I found what I like there. I didn’t check the prices of the food and coffee, I‘ve only bought two books for a fair price I would say. There were two girls working there, probably one person more, and they were friendly. The place is really cosy and comfortable! I am wondering if you they are opened during the corona thing...

(Translated by Google) Very kind staff, it is a library where you can study reading, play chess and cards .... it also serves as a bar, where you can taste home-made pasta and eat unique, always homemade bread. Almost all the books are in English like the whole place which is a lot of That style, for this attracts many tourists. If you are lucky there is the possibility that they will offer you one or two drinks always mixed London-style Berlin.

Love the place go there twice a week. However latest experience was bad, a lady working there being pushy about me ordering something or leaving. Noting I had my breakfast and coffee and had been there reading less than an hour. I understand she saw nothing on my table because I was already done, however I thought after explaining to her it would be different, she kept raiding my table in a pushy way to pressure me to leave. On my way out I noticed others had nothing also on their table. Not sure what was that about hope she only thought I didnt order and she misunderstood. But anyways ruined the experience. Edit after response: I think you got me confused with somebody else because no large man was involved and the 2 hours thing is not accurate. But if you use a large man to intimidate your customers kudos to you. Another edit: Seems the owner deleted their response.
